i'm having the strangest problem, my browser cant connect using mobile internet, but it works perfect on wifi. opera works fine via mobile or wifi, so does market. i've read some similar forums which suggest the problem is in proxy settings, which i cant find.
i've tried reflashing prety much everything, so any suggestion would be most appreciated.
edit:
i figured it works in stock rom, but doesnt work in cm or wildpuzzle. i did a format od system/data/cache/sd and it still doesnt work. i tought it had sth to do with google backup (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867143), but it doesnt seem so, because it still didnt work after clean install wothout syncing to google at all.
is there any similar config tool in android btowser to about:config in mozilla?

found the problem...
it was the proxy in apn what caused trouble. but it was way stupid situation. 1stly, apns are auto downloaded from network in my case, and as such i treated them as correct. and 2dly, i tried to clear that exact same proxy before, but it didnt cross my mind i have to reboot when i changed something as simple.
the cause of some apps still working and others didnt was probably that the ones which worked didnt use proxy at all.
anyways, problem solved, me happy. thanks for help...
I replied to a similar problem on this forum some time ago. Maybe it would apply to other people having similar issues.
was having a similar problem yesterday after I upgraded the OS on my phone.
Let me describe what I am using:
HTC Glacier with Cyanogen 7 ROM including Google Apps.
I installed TransProxy 3.08beta and a few other applications, made some config changes, enabled / disabled proxy a few times and later on the browser application that was included with the ROM would not connect to 3G data. It was working fine on WiFi. However Opera worked fine on either. Also other apps like market worked fine.
This is what fixed it for me:
1. Disable proxy in TransProxy
2. Create a shortcut for system proxy settings on home screen:
long press on home screen > custom shortcut > pick your activity > activities > settings > Proxy Settings(.ProxySelector)
3. Open proxy settings using the shortcut
4. Clear settings using 'Clear' button
5. Save
After this the browser started connecting to 3G data.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Proxy is a host through which you can access a particular network (in this case internet) from your device. Your device can be a phone or a pc or a tablet or anything that needs to connect to this network. If proxy settings are configured on your phone then the phone will always try to access the internet through that proxy host, even if direct connection is possible. After clearing those proxy settings, my problem was resolved.

Hello,
I have HTC Touch, and I'm trying to connect to wifi with ISA proxy.
First, I connected to home wifi (no proxy) and accessed internet without problem.
At work we have Radius etc. but I also connected, and I can surf to pages inside company (no need for proxy), but I can't get out to internet.
Any suggestion would be great!
tnx
small update: looks like I was surfing at work through usb cable, not wifi. But now I can't even connect to wifi at work, which I could before. Funny things going on, I'll reset.
Update2:
Newest status is: wifi connected, can surf internal sites, but can't go outside company network.
I suspect that IE is not going through the proxy at all. Which implicates that I don't know how to setup IE to use proxy on WM6???
If you edit "My Work Settings" thru Settings -> Connections -> Connections you can edit the proxy settings there. Then you say "connect to internet" thru "My Work Settings". I may be wrong, but I think you need to reset the pda as well...
OK, here are my settings:
under settings-connections-connections, advanced - select networks:
"Programs that automatically connect to Internet should connect using:" My Work Network.
When I click Edit, under Modem, there are no entries.
Under Proxy settings, "This network connects to internet" and "this network uses a proxy.." are both checked.
"Proxy server" field is disabled.
Under Advanced:
Socks line has serverort next to it. Others are empty. Server and port are good.
I click ok on all and go to IE. Type www.google.com, it says "Locating.." and that's all. Internal web sites are opening ok.
I tried to turn it off, and back on.
Tried google, not working.
I checked all settings once again and tried then, still nothing.
This is a common problem and I have not found a solution for it myself yet.
The proxy settings are lost when you apply them, and the SOCKS server settings behaves weirdly.
Anyone knows what can be done?
i want to know how to do this too... my school is also using the same system.
still no update

configfree from Toshiba
Dear,
I had an old E800 from toshiba where configfree is installed. With this program I can configure proxy for wifi in 10 sec and it works.
does someone know where we can find this program for other PDA. I want to try it on my Cruise.

I'm also having the same issue. Can anyone help, please?
From my experiences I can tell you: THERE IS NO WAY TO MAKE HTC AND HTTP PROXY FOR WIFI RUN. Neither with WM6.0 nor 6.1 nor a special brand nor the original firmware.
I have tried to inform HTC support, but I'm extremely pessemistic, that at least one will care. It seems to be not a WM related problem, because my WM6 ASUS doesn't have that issue.
There is a work around for browsers only: Don't use Pocket IE, use Minimo, because this browswer has it's own proxy setup. But it doesn't help you much, if you want to use other applications.
EDIT: Just to inform you, what happens, if you upgrade to WM6.1: The proxy settings are kept (HURRRAY) ---- but ignored completely It's _that_ brain damaged...

I can confirm the same "symptoms": proxy is totally being ignored on WM6.1. However, they're kept when you close the settings.

Proxy over WiFi works for me and has done with my previous HTC Wizard and now with my Kaiser. I have checked with a sniffer that I am definitely using the proxy over port 8080 (MS ISA 2006).
I have explained this before but this is how my device is setup.
ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Centre - Connection Settings set to 'This computer is connected to: Work Network' - Setting this to Automatic or The Internet deletes any Proxy Settings on the device when you connect it.
WiFi. My home WiFi SSID Network set to 'Connects to: Work'
Connections. 'Tasks' tab - Two settings 'My ISP' & 'My Work Network'. Advanced Tab, Select Networks. Top settings 'Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using: My ISP'. Bottom settings 'Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: My Work Network'. Under 'My ISP' I have the GPRS details for my carrier (Vodafone). Under 'My Work Network' I have a proxy defined with the Advanced settings configured - HTTP set to my proxy with the port 8080 and Socks set to my proxy with port 1080.
That's it and has worked for me since Windows Mobile 6.0 appeared for the Wizard. I used the same settings when I first got my Kaiser with WM 6.0 and now with WM 6.1 (more or less stock 5.2.19212) and it has worked every time.

WiFi and Proxy
There are too many wifi connection in the present. But the best thing is to choose the right one. Can you tell me to choose the right one with no Proxy service. Thanks
Am I just being a tool? (Don't answer that)
I can't seem to select a link in a tweet on the new HTC HD2 twitter app in Sense. If it try to select a link or twitpic it just brings up a menu asking if I want to reply to the tweet. In other twitter clients it takes you to the picture or brings up the internet.
Also, it doesn't seem to be updating if I click 'Update now' in the menu. I just get a 'Download error'. It says it's connected to my HSDPA network
OK I might have just answered my own question
It appears you have to select the person and go to their profile, in there you can actually double click on the link and it takes you to Opera.
Still not sure about the 3g connection problem though.
Anyone else getting this?
Seems to work fine over wi-fi
Yes I experience the same problem when connected via 3G. Mine also works fine when connected to wi-fi too. Tried it again at the station this morning and again it failed to update or connect via 3G. Not sure what the problem is?!?
I have problem with posting to Twitter on wifi and on 3G (or GPRS), i dont know what was a problem, but after hardreset is it OK, only auto download doesnt work, manually updates, posting, profiles, everything OK on any connection (AS, WIFI,3G...)
tiny url not working
anyone has this problem?
Strange 'L' appeaiorng before url in Peep
Hi All
This is a bit strange. I'm using Peep and it's mostly OK. The only problem I'm experiencing is when I use the 'insert maplink' geo-tag feature...it shortens the url but puts an 'L' before the shortened url.
Example -
L:http://tinyurl.com/yd32dsm
If I then check it in Twitter, the addition of the 'L' stops the link being clickable. It doedn't seem to matter which shortening service I use
Obviously, I can manually remove the 'L' from Peep before updating, but it's a bit of a pain. Anyone else getting the same problem?
Cheers
Steve
Nope not getting that problem on Geo tagging I use TinyURL.
Ref opening links you can open them straight from twitter feed but you have to be exact where you press and just a quick tab not a long one. It can sometimes be annoying but I think I must just have the knack. Also opera being open quickens the process.
Hello,
I also see the problem with connecting to twitter. I have not tried over WLan but when I try over normal 3G I get an error that connection to twitter was not successful. I have typed the correct login credentials.
Very strange...
my issue is that i deleted a msg on my pc but it still remains in peep

This is the issue I have. With the stock T-Mobile 1.43 ROM, Peep actually worked fine over GSM/3G and WiFi even though everything else on the phone was buggy, laggy and unstable.
Using 1.61 I now have the experience where Peep and MSN messenger will only connect through WiFi. If I try to connect with GSM/3G I get the connection error. Is this issue present in 1.48, as I'm thinking of giving that a try.
i also cannot connect over gprs, how strange.
has any fix been found yet?

Thats a general twitter thing, I think. I've seen a lot of apps behave like that
Same problem here!
It worked once or twice but generally it doesn't. Really annoying as it is one of the features I would like to use most.
Wohoo!!! Fixed it. The key is that you need to update the connections database, reboot and THEN disable the proxy.
1) Goto Settings > Wireless Controls > Tap Data Connection (the label, not the switch)
2) Tap menu, then Update Database
3) Follow the instructions and then OK the reboot.
4) Once restarted, goto Settings > Menu, All Settings. Then Connections, Connections again, then Set up my proxy server.
5) Disable the proxy and you're all set.

Another solution?
Anyone else having problems with HTC Peep? I can't get it to login to any twitter account, just gives me a login failed (wrong username password type message).
Also use moTweet with no such problems (but would like to use Peep too to stay logged into one account)
It did work once, but not for a week or so now.
yea im getting that too. I think its part of the general network problems that constantly afflict this buggy phone :-(
I get mail connection issues while opera works fine.. I am starting to think it might be something to do with the way the programs call the network interface in WinMo.

I had a Google around and it seems some Android users were getting some similar problems with Peep in Sense UI. Wonder if it's more to do with the Peep app rather can a network issue?
Anyone else getting this problem?
Appreciate if you use Peep and it's working you post a reply too (realise that many others will be using other twitter apps instead due to peep being a little limited in functions)
Hi,
I am on vodafine UK and peep works without any issues on my HD2. On hero, Peep works on wifi as and other networks but does not work on Vodafone UK(regardless of the AP settings).
Vodafone is not blocking the ports, however they are certainly manipulating the incoming data to the devices. Some applications get affected from this process. While there might be other work arounds, I have noticed that using SSL for web requests in the applications resolves issues. For instance, an application I was working on was working ok on wifi deserializing json data from the server but it was failing to do so on Vodafone data connection. Using https instead of http on the server fixed the issue. Of course, this is a fix that need to be applied within the application.

I had the issue with mine too so I created new account on twitter. After sucessfull login there I went back and all was ok. (It is the trick found by some1 else here...)
I've had it not work a couple of times, but 99% of the time it works all the time
it only works with my vodafone if I disable the proxy.. otherwise it only works with wifi..
but when I switch from wifi to 3G, the first time the applications try to connect again.. also weather etc. I get a connection error, althought the 3G/H icon flashes. also after a reboot.. but when I try to connect again it works fine..
not a real problem as I hardly use wifi on it as the 3G connection is really fast and at home the computer is always on and within reach..
when you disable the vodafone proxy, you won't be able to get in the live portal site and/or use those services.. but who cares about that..
generally this fixes a lot of things in the phone, as everything connects to "The Internet" by default. But the vodafone automatic settings screw them up. With the proxy disabled the The Internet account works again and this means it will use wifi when it's on, if not it will use 3G. With the proxy disabled you can also set your mail accounts to "The Internet" instead of "Vodafone live!" and it can receive mail over wifi and 3G.
I tihnk mine worked with T-Mobs 1.43 ROM, but since using 1.61 (and a dabble with 1.48) mine only connects to Twitter through WiFi, not through GSM or 3G. The same is true for MSN messenger too.

Have Twitter changed something recently? I used to be able to connect using Tweetdeck & Digsby on my PC, as well as the HTC Peep app and moTweet.
No it seems I can only be logged on with one of these applications, or maybe I am barking up the wrong tree.... deffo wouldnt work on HTC HD2 until I logged out of my PC app.

may sound stupid, but this happens to Peep if you ever used Opera Mobile 10 for Twitter. Solution: log in to Twitter via OM10 and force manual logout there. Peep should be OK afterwards.

It's obviously an HTC Peep issue as many have installed other Twitter clients and they're working OK.
EDIT: I tried schnooller's advice (above) and logged OUT of Twitter.com using Opera on my HD2. Closed Opera, then relaunched Peep..and it's all working fine now
hello
i also have same probs it shows account is forbidden in htc hd2
any body have solution.
I recall this being missing in Android 2.x last I dealt with it, but I would have thought they added it by 3.0. And yet I can't find proxy settings anywhere on my newly bought Xoom. Is it just me being blind, or is it really not there?
Yes it is still missing, along with Cisco VPN support...
This makes this tablet pretty useless in a corporate environment... iPad works damnit!
I'm necro'ing this thread, but I found out that HTTP Proxy Settings from the market works just fine to expose the native Setting's Proxy page. I have no idea why it's disabled, but it works just fine for me! I just barely got it working, so I hope the setting is per WiFi network, as I'll have to clear it when I get back home, which would suck.
HTTP Proxy settings is not working with my xoom. Ran the app and it shows a blank Proxy screen.
Restarted Xoom. No change.
Do I need to root?
Not sure if this will work on the Xoom but on my phone I've created a Proxy shortcut using Any Cut. New shortcut > Activity > Proxy. Works well as long as you don't need proxy authentication.
Use Firefox Mobile
Use Firefox mobile and go to the add ons section and install the proxy mobile add-on. After you install it, go to proxy mobile from your add-on and enter your proxy settings.
Hi all. I have been trying for a long time to get the internet to work (on my Samsung Galaxy S II) while being connected to my university's WiFi. My university provides passwords to some of it's access points. I successfully connected to the access point (Student), but the internet didn't not work. Also connected to a second access point, still nothing
My university runs on a proxy network and so certain details need to be entered into the device's browser. The proxy settings for my university's internet are: Address: proxy.xx.yy (second and third set hidden for privacy) and Port: 8080. My friend got his internet working on his iPhone, as there was a screen to add these proxy settings. People have also got the internet to work on their laptops by entering those settings. However I have looked everywhere but can't seem to find the proxy settings screen on my Galaxy S II. Help would be much appreciated.
Add a Wi-Fi network under Wi-Fi settings (not sure which Android version you have as I'm going off of CM 10.1) and there is a checkbox for advanced options then it should be there.
