I realize I'll do nothing but create clutter with this post.... but I am doing it anyway
I've looked at everything out there (in the US)... Diamond, Touch Pro, upcoming Omnia (at Verizon), even thought about Xperia... Nothing comes close to HD, in my mind. But buying it without network discounts and giving up 3G is crazy too.
I am completely bummed out about it. HTC, damn you! Why hasn't someone else stepped up to make phone like this that works in the US. High-res screen, high-res camera, thin, with screen of at least 3.5"? Ya know, so you can actually thumb-type without the hardware keyboard? Even if you have fingers that are bigger than a 7-year-old's? Like a normal person...
All this can make someone go old-school BlackBerry... and they don't have a cure for that...

for you, giving up network discounts and 3G is crazy. for me, those 2 criteria are low on my list. i view it more as a tradeoff/investment to get what i want (not what i need, lol). i used 1 subsidized device in that past 4 years; everything else was/is unsubsidized. my experience suggests that unlocked/unsubsidized devices sale faster and at higher prices. anyway, i resale my phones via ebay and use the proceeds to fund some or all of the cost of my next device. i must admit that i've been fortunate enough to also fund my tech habit via dividends from sporting "investments". we all have our addictions, vices, etc. unfortunately, the phone addiction can be an expensive one.

i agree with you 100%! my suspicions are that contractual agreements between htc and at&t and at&t and "the fruit company" have something to do with the HD not coming to the US. at&t is the only GSM carrier with an extended 3G footprint and bringing the HD to at&t would directly compete against the fruity phone. the fruit company wouldn't like that, lol. now that still doesn't explain why the HD is missing the us 3G bands...this could be due to technical reasons.

with the improved sensitivity of the HD, one-handed or two-handed thumb typing is better than i expected. there's always room for improvement, but it works very well for me.

tried the crackberry drug once and had major withdrawal issues, lol. for me, it's not a viable substitute.
Feeding the addiction, eh? I'd actually live without 3G -- I keep my Kaiser on Edge most of the time anyway, if only it was cheaper. I am just surprised this is the only phone either than the fruity company's youPhone that has a touchscreen >= 3.5" (HTC Universal excluded). Bastardos... the lot of'em.
Answer me this...
I couldn't hold out anymore and I ordered one from the Uk. Now everyday I'm thinking of sekking it for a AT&T Fuze to get 3G back, but this is what I don't get. I had a Polaris, which as far as I know never was released on a carrier here; yet it still ran US 3G. WHY DON"T THEY DO THAT WITH THIS THING!!?

so, if you're selling to get 3G, you must be using 3G extensively everyday? true? if yes, and i was in your shoes, i would have passed on the HD. regarding the 3G bands, well, marketing decisions by someone led them to exclude the 3G bands on the HD. the market has changed (for whatever reaason) since the Polaris was relased. the first evidence of that was the release of the Diamond without 3G. we're just small pawns in the game...
3G remorse
Yes, I lived in Orlando and now NY where both had great 3G almost all times. I am constantly checking the internet on pricing items and looking at emails. I hate to admit this too, but the Iphone 3G was pretty functional for me. I just hate Mac everything so i got rid of it. I just love the screen on the HD though! I think I'm buying a Polaris tomorrow.
Man, if i could get this phone, i could care less about 3G lol. I am with sprint, but am willing to ORDER THIS PHONE FROM ACROSS THE POND, have it shipped over here and getting an At&t plan or something and using the sim card in this phone.....just to have this phone. Knowing me......i will probably buy this phone, a good friend of mine ordered it and had it shipped to him the other day. I am going to visit him for the holidays and will finally FINALLY get some hands on with this bad A** phone.

I went through the exact thoughts after getting my omnia. I lacked the willpower to hold off for the HD. After having having the omnia two weeks I broke the piggy(again) to get the HD.
I'm with US t-mo, limiting my 3G options to the G1, which does does not impress. I'm satisfied with 2G and WiFi.
Ultimately, I'm extremely happy with the beautiful screen and build quality.
By the way, anyone want to buy a slightly used omnia....CHEAP!
ME TOO lol. Im with sprint right now and would give anything to get my hands on this phone. So you have t-mobile? I thought this phone could only run on At&T? Am i missing something, i live in right behind a t-mobile store, what did you do to get your plan onto the HD and get it running? PM ME IF NEED BE

It's a GSM phone, so if it's not locked it will work on any GSM network -- that's AT&T and T-mo in the US.
Ok, so lets say that you can get this phone unlocked here in the U.S. And sign up with T-mobile with one of their plans, could you just switch out the sim card from the phone you get into this phone? Im really interested in getting this phone and am willing to open up a contract with either T-MOBILE or At&t. Im not a big talker but am a big texter. I was looking into the basic myfaves plan but was wondering if you could use the pay-as-you-go plans with this phone also. Any one have any suggestions?

it's already unlocked if you purchase from someone like Clove, Expansys. and yes, all you have to do is pop in your SIM card and you're good to go. i got mine from Clove Technologies and it's working great on at&t. it will even configure your internet settings...
you read my mind cortez I was going to order it from them too. im thinking about opening a plan with t-mobile since they have cheaper plans an I think I can narrow down to 5 people to put on my faves. any suggestions man ever since I got my hands on this phone the other day which it was my friends...all I can do is think about how to get it to work in the u.s.

Personally I would be very mad right now if I bought a Nexus One on AT&T.
I wouldn't want it on at&t anyways, service isn't like it used to be. . .
Plus T-Mobile is gonna have way better phones than at&t soon enough.
What strikes it weird to me is why isn't AT&T listed as "coming soon" like Verizon etc...If in fact they were coming to them wouldn't they have list it
I switched from AT&T to T-mobile specifically because AT&T was too late getting on the Android bandwagon. Just because they are reacting at the late point in the race doesn't mean I regret my switch or that I wish I would have stayed to begin with... I'm getting better prices at T-mobile anyway
naa, if att gets it, I'd just sell mine and buy another.

Read the article again, it never says it's coming to AT&T, just that it's getting support for the AT&T 3G bands. This is most likely a version for a future Canadian carrier.

Indeed, perhaps it will be coming to Rogers, or the new Telus network. Doesn't mean you won't be able to get an unsubsidized version for use on AT&T though...
I am getting an N1 myself, but plan to only use on AT&T for a few days; too many dropped calls on this network. TMO may not necessarily have the coverage, but if you have a signal, at least you can rely on it.
I'm not really upset about this either. I was willing to switch back to T Mobile for this phone, but it would have meant two ETF's for me. Now I can just flip this one for a profit to an international buyer on eBay, save myself the ETF's, and not have to go through the hastle of switching.

i really don't understand people that feel wronged when a new product is released.
maybe it's "early adopter syndrome" or something ?

Well, I'm glad I found out about this right now; just called HTC to return my phone since I'm definitely willing to wait it out for an ATT 3G version (the network is pretty solid in Philly for me).
So ya i was hoping my G1 would survive till an android phone with the 1ghz cpu was released to t-mobile in store, but it didn't make it. Unfortunately i cant get the Nexus in the t-mobile store, which i think was a terrible idea on google's side, but whatever. What other android phone you guys think would be a great device to have?
got the wife a Behold 2, and its AWESOME.....after i rooted it and put a custom rom on it. The mytouch is ok. reminds me a lot of the G1. Ill never buy a motorola product ever again.......does anyone know of any other android devices coming out for t-mobile anytime soon?
thanks a ton for the time!
cheers!
The HD2? It's Winmo but these clever minds here on XDA will soon put Android on it, I'm pretty sure.
I felt the MT3G is a vast difference from G1, and you can check out the 1.2 version as well.

It sounds like we may be in similar situations, this is what I am thinking:
Im wondering the same thing. i have a mytouch, and wife now needs a new phone. Not getting the nexus bc of the family plan we have, and not gonna spend $500 on it.
Since it does not look like tmobile is coming out with any new (nexus like performance) phones really soon, this is what I think we are going to do, maybe good for you too:
I think we are going to find a mytouch on craigslist (like mine). hopefully for around $150. root it so that it runs good, and wait for tmobile to come out with something good, then use upgrade to get discount on new phone. Then sell the mytouch (purchased from craigslist) on ebay for about the same, if not more...
sounds like we are in the similar situations, so figured i would share about the only option I can see would be good. What do you think? good luck

No, it was a very good idea. T-Mobile would lock it down and not let it be used on any other carrier, without unlocking. I'm sure you know that a large portion (probably around 60 - 70%, if not, more) of all cell phone users have never even HEARD of unlocking. Not being on just one carrier = more buyers. More buyers = more money.

Aside from the CDMA junk, both GSM versions are happy to work on other networks, not just the one whose 3G band is compatible.
I.e., the tmobile3G version is compatible with ATT2G, and the ATT3G version is compatible with tmobile2G. They are both compatible with INTERNATIONAL2G and some 3G.
Further, if you decide to go to.... europe, or wherever, with an unlocked phone, you can buy a LOCAL SIMCARD and it will work IFF your phone is unlocked.
But there is MORE TO BEING UNLOCKED than just sim-unlocked. There is also FIRMWARE unlocked, and with GN1, it is TRIVIAL -- "fastboot oem unlock" is the command. This allows you to load CUSTOM FIRMWARE to the device.... which is not possible with a carrier-branded device.
If you like the phone, buy it from google. They are a very reputable seller.
Expect this in the future though: as 2G dies away, you will start to see 3G-only devices with full 6-band 3G radios -- 850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100. These devices, when they appear, will be universal.

No, the Desire is going to be exclusive to Verizon in the US, thus cannot be used on T-Mobile because it is CDMA.

Heck yeah the HD2 is awsome, even though its not android. Like somebody above said people here at XDA will find a way to put android on it. That HUGE screen is amazing.
If you ask T-Mobile they are sure to say that one of their "lovely" blur devices is what you want, kindly kick their shin and spit on them if they do
and then Toot and, oh, I apologize, TWEET and inform us what phone you got on your way to jail.

JUST FYI, NO U.S.A carriers has been announced for the Desire or Legend and since HTC wants this to be their "super phone" it will most likely be GSM since it will be world compatible (on edge anyway) You are probably thinking about the HTC Incredible (A completely different phone)
Any way I would go with the HTC HD2 since it is a great device and there will be an android rom for it one day and when a great android phone comes out for t-mobile just sell the HTC HD2 (someone will buy it on XDA, you should get around $300 for it if you take care of it)

moto isn't a good company. They been saying for a few months that the droid will get the 2.1 update in a week but it has been pushed back a lot of times. They finally pushed the update but to the milestone (droid's name for other countries) so now the droid users are pissed.
I would only choose moto for an android phone as a last resort because HTC is the brand for me.

I thought the supersonic/EVO was the android version of HD2.
only thing I like about the HD2 is how big the screen is...yet so thin like a razor, but I'd much rather wait...even if the devs dished out a android rom for it tonight, I don't want to waste my upgrade on a WMO phone regardless of it's value or capability...simply because I'm stubborn
As far as the Desire goes, I believe it will be coming to T-mobile and if not, more likely a universal unlocked release like the N1...but as far as the Verizon only rumor, bullsh*t. HTC would never let me down like Moto did with the Droid
I have had up close experience with the N1, (friend of mines owns it), lovely phone, simply the best Android has to offer right now until proven otherwise by a later release, but I'm not going for it
If I'm going dish $500 bucks or more for something it will most def. be the Desire...because that is what I desire
Im thinking of getting the drod x on july 19th. My contract with tmobile expires on july fourth so ill probably sell the nexus for it. What do you guys think? Is it a major upgrade? It has 4.3 inch screen and seems better than the evo.

Ofcourse not. He just meant that you can't check movie times or what not while you're on a call. I guess in theory it's nice to do both but to be fair I never have found myself in a situation where I am so bored with someones phone conversation that I just start surfing the web mid-call. Ok....maybe once.
The real CDMA deal breaker for me is traveling abroad.
I also hate Moto since they locked the bootloader of the Milestone.
I would wait and see how the rooting/custom rom effort comes along.
The droid has great community, just make sure Moto doesn't follow up on their bad habbits!

What about tethering?I believe this might be what he was referring to...
A HSDPA version of the Droid X would be nice, like the Milestone, but ONLY if they leave the boot loader unlockable this time. CDMA is effectively dead in Canada now with only legacy contracts still using the old networks.
It seems like Motorola uses good components in their phones and their build quality is very good, but I don't care for their tacked on UI and would only get the phone if I knew it was possible to load something like CyanogenMod on it. The Nexus One has spoiled me.
I'm constantly intrigued by the design of the Droid and now the Droid X and Droid 2, but I just can't stomach a contract and the outrageous Verizon plans. I'll stick with my Nexus and cheap T-mo data for now.

And also I'm with ya on the whole cdma bull****. Its such an outdated technology. And I hate Verizon. And I hate carrier devices. I hate carrier branding.

That's why ill buy the nexus two. And I know I mentioned that I'm gonna buy iPhone 4 but I've been thinking. Apple can go screw its self. nexus pwns it.
More interesting question is anybody thinking about getting the Galaxy S?
Technically, GSM 3G is a flavor of CDMA...just allows for simultaneous voice and data because of the way it's configured. However, GSM networks can still be configured to only allow voice or data at once, they just happen to have been set up originally to allow them both. The ironic part of it is just that nobody knew when they set up the network that it would be this way and it would end up being such a huge deal - lucky break for AT&T.
If root is easy it will surely boost sales (I hope manufacturers understand this).
Very good specs, but lets wait for an actual device in-depth review

Sorry, you can keep the tablet phones...
Little too big for my daily use. And we need more detailed specs & benchmarks for validation.
i think these devices are way too big. Ive played with the Evo and this is bigger?! I thought the Evo was big and clunky. Maybe something just a lil bit bigger than my N1 would be my limit. I think Android has this thing where they think bigger is better. I dont wanna hold that thing in my pocket? These things are ganna be tablets size soon
I'm coming from an iPhone so I have no brand/device loyalty, but root/jailbreaking is high priority for me. It doesn't seem like the S7e has any advantages over the 10 besides screen (honestly not the biggest fan of the curved screen anyway). Should I make the switch?
Yes.

I returned my s7e today and ordered the 10; I found that unless you have the hands of a giant, you will continually hit the edges and cause miss types/screen jumps. I also couldn't deal with the lack of ad blocker and the DPI was too big, even with the new native scaling. AND I thought the curved edges would be in addition to the screen, but they really occupied about 1/8" on either side.

Remember phones bought from Verizon store/online are IMEI blacklisted from using HTCdev. It will probably come with a ton of Verizon bloat. It is also not a guarantee to be able to get root. It could come in a week, or could take a year like the M9.or maybe never. A java card could also possibly work but not a 100% yet. Due your research, only way to guarantee root is by ordering from HTC's website. Just FYI.

Sadly no, only thing that will get you is the uh-oh protection. The unlocked version "might" work on Verizon but we wont know until someone try's it and sees if it has the CDMA radios. On paper with the posted specs it should but in my experience with verizon you may never know. They got the money to bully company like HTC to do what they want. take a read at this forum for more info.http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/unlocked-htc-10-verizon-t3357874

Just FYI.

****in hell man, all I want is a rootable phone through my current provider, haha. Either that or a quality Nexus that isn't a phablet to make me jump to Fi.

I'm coming from an iPhone so I have no brand/device loyalty, but root/jailbreaking is high priority for me. It doesn't seem like the S7e has any advantages over the 10 besides screen (honestly not the biggest fan of the curved screen anyway). Should I make the switch?

Yeah Verizon is the devil. Finally making the switch myself to ATT. I am done with the hoops you have to jump through to get access to the device you own. The Verizon version of the M9 gave quite a bit of trouble to get root but @jcase and the sunshine team finally did it so they may still have a trick up their sleave to get root on the Verizon 10 without using HTVdev to unlock the boot loader. Sadly the only way to 100% guarantee root with Verizon is a nexus. Don't give up home there are a lot of very talented devs on here but sadly its never a guarantee and can take time.
I just did my preorder through VZW. I know the risks as far as maybe not being able to unlock/root., but I just paid off my LG v10 for this because I know HTC, and I will get something going. I hope the great developers from the M8 series are here .
I may be a bit too excited for thursday to get here....
