If I go to a webpage with a link to an mp3, I had hoped that the long press menu would give me an option to download the file, as you do with a pc. This seems not to be the case. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Yes, it should work. Hold onto the link, select save link as...and you're done.
You should be buying your music.... just saying.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Hmm, it's as simple as that, thanks. I just assumed that 'save link' wasn't the same as 'save what the link points to! It's not the link itself I want to save.
And whilst it's easy to assume that I want to steal music, in fact I want to be able to download legitimate podcasts and other non-music sound files whilst on holiday, and I don't want to use a podcatcher.

Bumping coz i want to know the answer as well! I cant get calibre to recognise the tablet and so cant use that either!
Try creating an empty .no media file in the covers folder then rebooting the tablet.

Just to clarify the above poster, get a file browser app if you already don't have one installed (I use EsFileExplorer).
1. Navigate to the folder where you have all your audiobooks stored
2. Tap the menu button > New > File
3. Rename the file ".nomedia" (no quotes)
You don't need to put anything in the file and now all the files in that folder will not show up in your gallery.
Thanks u guys rock!

I searched the forum about getting Flash to work on the Nexus 10 and the thread said to go to the Nexus 7 forums and do it with the steps over there....which I think I did.
I downloaded three.apk fikes and put them on my tablet.....an Adobe Flash .apk file that ends in 152, a "Hulafied" .apk file, and a Adobe Air .apk file. I tapped the files individually and it appeared they installed properly....or at least they went through the motions of a proper install.
But when I go to some sites, I am still getting that lego looking icon which I assume are flash animations/movies.
Am I downloading the wrong files?
You just need the flash app and a browser that supports the flash plugin. You also need to enable plugin loading for that browser. Boat supports it as does the AOSP browser. Chrome does not.

I have the Boat Browser and when I look in my apps, I have the little Flash player icon. I'm still getting the little lego icon though on some sites.
You have to enable it in boat. Go to the settings in boat and then page content settings and enable flash. Exit and exit boat. Start it again and test your web page.

Do you have a link to the .apk file you use? Maybe I need to uninstall and try a different .apk file?

How do I send files through WiFi direct? On all my other devices I can go to any file manager and choose to send via WiFi direct... This seems to be not available. Why? I feel like this a crucial method of sending large files way faster than Bluetooth.. If anyone can help me out it would be great!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
WiFi direct is a function of the OS. You have to have a program that is capable of using it. I have transferred files via WiFi direct using OfficeSuite Pro successfully.
You can download WiFi direct. It's kind of hit and miss
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
yeah thank you!
wifi direct seems like such a use full feature, why it isnt more widely implemented i do not know,
but yeah ive tried wifishoot and yeah any wifidirect apps seem to be hit n miss, plus with standard os, it doesnt help you much and doesnt seem able to send many files by standard? (gallery, image, share, no wifi direct option most of the time)?
Don't understand why that is I have a Galaxy Note 2 and I just got this nexus which I sold my Galaxy Tab for and I find it ridiculous that I can't send files through wifi direct because bluetooth is so slow and I don't have an external memory for this Nexus so it makes it so much harder now to transfer files without wifi direct. I see this as a big let down and I expect the Nexus to have this ability throughout the whole operating system. Why is wifi direct even an option in the Nexus if we can use it for anything I even connected with another phone through wifi direct and had that other phone try to send me a file on the Nexus blocks it because it says it doesn't allow media sharing. I'm a bit let down

Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I use an app called peerdeviceconnect. It's on the play store and links two or more devices that have the app installed. Then when you select an app to share the option of using it is shown. It has the create Wifi direct network option built into it.

I found that in my phone the other day too. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't really do anything.
Could be a log file. I'm not sure what it is. I would scan again once it appears. Not sure if it is I needed file or not. I don't have a nex 4 but was looking into getting one that's why I'm at the forum.
You can try sd maid which has a system cleaner. Or change the files permissions if you are worried about it transmitting data. But I wouldn't mess with it too much until you figure out what it is.

You guys could wipe your sdcard with twrp if you are worried, but back up all your wanted sdcard data to a computer first. And then put it back on right after. I do that with my Nexus 7 sometime. Not sure if it is the same process on Nex4. It may not be necessary, not sure.

I'm not sure but i think that Chrome doesn't support this feature,
I know that Chaton and Gallery do support it,
I've managed to drag and drop pictures from the gallery to Chaton,
I didn't need to press the little blue button.
Also, i think their stock file manager supports it as well.
It works long enough in the shop to convince you to buy it.
Then you take it home to use it.
Then you find out it's a gimmick because it only works with a few SAMSUNG apps.
There are a million more people who use what'sapp & Chrome than ChatOn & the stock browser.
