This is really annoying as I have about 60 books. How can I keep my gallery just my own pictures? Thx

Try creating an empty .no media file in the covers folder then rebooting the tablet.

Just to clarify the above poster, get a file browser app if you already don't have one installed (I use EsFileExplorer).
1. Navigate to the folder where you have all your audiobooks stored
2. Tap the menu button > New > File
3. Rename the file ".nomedia" (no quotes)
You don't need to put anything in the file and now all the files in that folder will not show up in your gallery.
Thanks u guys rock!

Hi
I dont know why the pictures and videos of my games shows up in the gallery. Is there a way to remove them without deleting them from the game directory?
It never happened before but it happened since i upgraded to darky 9.5

Simply place an empty file called .nomedia in each directory you want to hide. Don't forget the dot in front of the name.

awesome thanks. it works
I'm trying to hide some pictures from folders that I need from the Gallery app.. I used to do this by adding a ".nomedia"folder.. But since I got the galaxy s3 it doesn't seem to be working that way.. I can't delete the pictures or the apps won't work.. Does anybody have a fix for this.. Without downloading a application for it? Thanks for any help you can give me!

I used to use a folder.. But either way neither of them work (file/folder)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
just add the .nomedia file to the folder.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
How are you adding the file? Maybe I can walk you through it... check you private messages if you need help still
After you add the .nomedia file, clear gallery cache, reboot, and see if the pictures are there.
I did... I have never had a problem doing this before.. Until the galaxy s3 its soo strange., I appreciate everyone's help thank you so much.. I just can't figure this out. I will post some screen shots

You could also try deleting those pictures. Then they're sure to not show up.

If I delete them then my clocks won't have images.. So I'd have to re download all my files.. Then I'd be in the same boat again

I just sent you a link in a private message with the nomedia file i created - maybe the one your creating has a permissions issue, so maybe if you download that one and put it in your directory, then clear the data and reboot it will fix your issue...
I had this problem too. Download hide it pro and you can set pics to not show in the gallery.

I think your problem is using myfiles to create the file - try using a different file explorer - i use root explorer but there are others ones like astro that should work, then clear the data and reboot....
If you look myfiles doesnt see my .nomedia file but root explorer does:

If you clear data it will not delete your photos, it will just make gallery rebuild its database of the files...
Why are you adverse to downloading an app to accomplish your goal? There are free apps that do what you need and with a lot less time and hassle.

Here's what my gallery looks like after using Hide It Pro- despite the name, its a free app. I've seen what you're talking about with the black boxes, the first app I tried did that.

I'm finding it can be difficult to copy/cut and paste on the Nexus, sometime it works and other times it just won't work, is there a specific guide I need to follow or download some app?

No.
Maybe you just have big fingers.

Cut Copy and paste works fine here.

It's ok here too. I guess you just don't have the knack to tap for a few seconds.xD
Say for example I have 2 browsers open, Maxthon and Chrome, trying to copy and paste between both of them simply will not work, and even in one browser sometimes it just will not work, other times it will, I spent 10 minutes trying to copy and paste something, I even went out of the browser and back in and it just wouldn't copy and paste, normal fingers not big fat ones lol, is there some app I could use?

How about trying a different keyboard? I use Swype. It's got all the common keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+A, except instead of Ctrl, you swype from the Swype key to the desired letter. Saves a ton of time for me.
Cheers!
Mine does the same thing and its also random. Running 4.1.2 stock and rooted.

I use SwiftKey can't see myself using anything else to be honest but I'm not talking about the keyboard as such, happened again earlier, I mostly use Maxthon browser, wanted to copy and paste a link into Facebook no matter how many times I tried it just wouldn't paste tried copy and cut but no luck, surely there has to be a way to get this working?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Looks like I'll have to live with it, can be a pain in ass though :-\

Is it the copy bit your having most trouble with or the paste bit? If your not on a word, it wont bring up the copy header so have you tried zooming in more so you are sure your actually on a word? Reg paste, a work around may be to paste in to a note taking app and then copy it out of there? Without seeing what your doing wrong, its very difficult to give you an answer.
Running rooted stock 4.2.1 (JOP40D) here. Stock (Android soft) keyboard, but occasionally using BT keyboard as well.
Mostly it seems to work for me, but I have experienced exactly what you said:
I would copy something from a web browser - no problem with selection mechanism, no errors when the "copy" on-screen button is touched; but when I go to the destination app, the pasted text would be from a prior "copy" operation in a completely different app. Repeating multiple times had no effect.
I don't know what causes it nor what makes it resolve.
If I go to a webpage with a link to an mp3, I had hoped that the long press menu would give me an option to download the file, as you do with a pc. This seems not to be the case. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Yes, it should work. Hold onto the link, select save link as...and you're done.
You should be buying your music.... just saying.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Hmm, it's as simple as that, thanks. I just assumed that 'save link' wasn't the same as 'save what the link points to! It's not the link itself I want to save.
And whilst it's easy to assume that I want to steal music, in fact I want to be able to download legitimate podcasts and other non-music sound files whilst on holiday, and I don't want to use a podcatcher.

A couple days ago I shattered the screen on my s4, as well as the touchscreen, so it's useless. There are some pictures on there I need to recover but I can't get to them because they were hidden (no, not what you think lol). I cant download any apps to my phone nor enable the screen mirroring setting so I was wondering if there any way to find them in the filing system via my laptop or a program I can download to emulate my phone on my laptop. Thanks in advance.
(Tried searching for a .hide folder, n0 results.)
Bump.

why not use an USB? to get your pictures out of your phone?
Perhaps my post wasn't clear. On the Galaxy s4 you have the option to "hide" pictures, which puts them, for all intents and purposes, in a second, hidden gallery. This moves them to a .hide folder somewhere in the file system. I've tried to find them via USB but I cannot find the .hide folder.

Sounds like your best option is the order a new screen & LCD online and replace them.
I hope not. I really don't want to pay a hundred plus dollars seeing as I've already replaced the phone. There's got to be a way to do it.

Quick Google search got me here http://inside-galaxy.blogspot.com/2014/05/samsung-galaxy-s4-how-to-fix-cant-find_30.html?m=1
Says there should be a '.hide' folder in the internal storage, then for some reason an 'island' folder where the images are (with a warning that 'island' may be different for you).
