Sending file through wifi direct? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do I send files through WiFi direct? On all my other devices I can go to any file manager and choose to send via WiFi direct... This seems to be not available. Why? I feel like this a crucial method of sending large files way faster than Bluetooth.. If anyone can help me out it would be great!

WiFi direct is a function of the OS. You have to have a program that is capable of using it. I have transferred files via WiFi direct using OfficeSuite Pro successfully.

You can download WiFi direct. It's kind of hit and miss

yeah thank you!
wifi direct seems like such a use full feature, why it isnt more widely implemented i do not know,
but yeah ive tried wifishoot and yeah any wifidirect apps seem to be hit n miss, plus with standard os, it doesnt help you much and doesnt seem able to send many files by standard? (gallery, image, share, no wifi direct option most of the time)?

Don't understand why that is I have a Galaxy Note 2 and I just got this nexus which I sold my Galaxy Tab for and I find it ridiculous that I can't send files through wifi direct because bluetooth is so slow and I don't have an external memory for this Nexus so it makes it so much harder now to transfer files without wifi direct. I see this as a big let down and I expect the Nexus to have this ability throughout the whole operating system. Why is wifi direct even an option in the Nexus if we can use it for anything I even connected with another phone through wifi direct and had that other phone try to send me a file on the Nexus blocks it because it says it doesn't allow media sharing. I'm a bit let down

What do you mean by download as in connect with another phone and receive files or download some app that lets you send stuff?

I meant on the play store to download WiFi direct
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

I use an app called peerdeviceconnect. It's on the play store and links two or more devices that have the app installed. Then when you select an app to share the option of using it is shown. It has the create Wifi direct network option built into it.

To do what? share files? one control the other?
You could pair them by bluetooth I'd imagine. Not sure what Bluetooth profiles both use/have.
To share files tried Bluetooth the nexus paired to the iPod but the iPod couldn't pair to the nexus.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
You could always get an iOS app that can upload and download to and from a storage service like Dropbox and get an Android app that can connect to whatever service you chose for your iPod to download and upload. You could sync through your chosen service as well so you don't have to do everything manually.
It's a little inconvenient but probably you're best bet if Bluetooth isn't working for you.

The files are to big for that.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
No one has tried this.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
This is not possible unless both the iPod and N7 are rooted (jailbroken). If they are, it's easy.
There are a couple of iOS apps in Cydia that can make your iPod visible on a windows network. If your Nexus is rooted, using the Samba filesharing app will let you access the files on either device from the other provided they're on the same wifi network.
Paul over at Mocado has TeamViewer Server running on the N7. So you could use teamviewer on the iDevice and remote into the N7.
Might be cool on an iPad or something. If Teamviewer even has an iDevice app, which I'm probably sure they do.

nexus 7 as Minecraft PE hotspot server
Am searching for a way to do something like this....let me explain, and you can tell me if I am just way out there...
I bought Minecraft PE for my nexus 7, and for both my son's iPad and iTouch.
Is it possible to run software on the Nexus 7, so that it can act as a server, and the other two can connect to it....like on a LAN...?
This would allow us to play together in the van....if it is possible to make the Nexus act like a wireless Hotspot of sorts....
Not sure....but this is the place for people who know all things Android...
Hope this makes sense...
Thanks for any help...

[Q] Stolen or lost

Hi,
My Nexus 7 was stolen or lost yesterday. I have no security app installed but I have the lock screen activated.
Can I locate it?
What should I do?
Kind regards
/x
Be more careful with your things?
=P
Sorry mate, without anything already installed I think you're out of luck

Search the forum. Looks like there is a way if it, by the force of nature, connect by itself to an open wifi. You can let a app already queueu to download. I guess there is some security app that dont need your intervention on tablet. I guess.
Good look.

Download plan b from the play store.

I have looked into Plan B and pushing it to install. But it can only install if the device connects via WiFi, and I don't see how it can connect to any WiFi unless it comes back to my house....

[Q] Any apps that can read and send sms from other android device?

Is there an application that can read and send SMS from other Android devices, let say Xperia sola, and that I can read in my Nexus 7? I have searched the Play store and none that I have found or something I have missed. A help from you guys will be highly appreciated.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Not that I know of, but try downloading Air Droid on your phone and rather then going to the website on your computer go on it using your tablet. Should work, but you'll have to be on your browser in order to see your SMS and what not. Just throwing out ideas
That might be good. But reading and sending SMS might keep be handy. Thanks. Still anyone?

I use cloud SMS to send and receive SMS on my N7. Costs .99 and you install it on your phone and tablet. There are others that uses Bluetooth also.

I use cloud sms also. The developer did all the beta testing right here in the N7 forum for theming and apps, which I was fortunate to be a part of. The transport is via internet. Works wonderfully.
Tablet sms is also available on the market. Higher price, and the two devices must be on the same wifi network.

I'm using mysms (I guess e.e. cummings named it) on my phone and mysms Tablet on my Nexus. I believe they sync through the cloud, but however they do it, I have exactly the same SMS send and receive abilities on both devices. Unlike some other solutions, it uses my existing phone number.
I use tablet sms. It was a little higher price but IMO, it was worth it after trying just about every other one out there.
It can sync via wifi or bluetooth. I use bluetooth.
I can send and receive sms from the tablet and they still show up on my phone. I can receive picture messages on the tab with tablet sms. cant send pics with it yet though.
Setup was really easy for me, it has a nice pop up option so when you are browsing on the tab, your sms will pop up if you choose and you can reply right there without exiting whatever app you were in and carry on when you are done.
I got mysms it syncs all messages you have on your phone, and you can send as well, works really well I haven't had no problems.

I have problems with cloudsms. They cant seem to work. Also those tabletsms and mysms comes with trial apps?

Mighty Text.
Works great.
Use desksms for your phone and tabletsms for your tablet. Its 5$ per year with a 2 week trial. I use it on my tablets. It syncs through Google so as long as you're connected to WiFi you're good. Real quick too.

Ditto. Just had a whole convo last night with my hubby while I was babysitting. Phone was charging and my outlet wasn't nearby so I used Tablet Talk. It also has the option to connect via Blue tooth, if you're somewhere not connected to WiFi.

Good wifi file manager?

Does anyone know a good app that will sync a folder on your phone and computer over wifi? It would be nice if I made a change to the fold on the computer or on the phone if it would mimic that on the other.

Sorry I should have gave more info, it's for music. Mostly flac files. I don't want to stream that much lol my data plan would be shot. Since I have a lot of music and download some straight from my phone and do a lot of work to rename folders and songs it would be nice to have it update on both but not were I have to stream them.

For anyone looking for this I found an awesome one. Cheetah sync is what I just started using. You can choose to sync from computer to phone, phone to computer or two way. It's free but it looks like you have to pay 2.99 after a trial period.

Titanium Backup (worth the money) has a media sync add-on that sounds like it would do what you want. I haven't tried it (don't need it).
It does require root, but that's already done
If you have a file server set up (or you have "shared folders" set up in Windows) AndSMB works really well.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
I thought about trying titanium media sync but wasn't sure if it's what I was looking for. Haven't heard of andsmb. Cheetah sync seems to be working well. It is nice because I can choose to 2 way sync where if I have deleted a duplicate or added tags or changed a song title it will update on the computer as well

FolderSync
Airdroid
Personally I use AirDroid, and I love it for syncing music/movies and whatnot. You can change up files on there also.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5zYW5kLmFpcmRyb2lkIl0.
I'm using airdroid too, it's not a syncing service, but it gets the job done. As happy as I am switching back to an android device,I really miss iTunes sync, even the tethered sync beats anything I've found for android.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
The App you are looking for is BtSync http://labs.bittorrent.com/experiments/sync.html
It can sync folder between multiple devices, it can sync files through wifi LAN or through internet, there is option to sync through wifi only.
BtSynce is available for Android, windows, linux, mac and even for NAS devices :good:
Its very efficient in syncing large multimedia files, also its free.
