Nexus 4 Net10 MMS - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently using Net10 with an AT&T sim.
I can make calls, browse the web, and send/receive regular texts, but I cannot send or receive MMS messages.
When I try to send an MMS it gets stuck "sending".
I am using the stock messaging app.
I am on android 4.2.2 stock with paranoid android kernel.
Here are the APN settings I am using:
Name: net10
APN: tfdata
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com
MMS Port: 80
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Your APN settings appear to be correct according to Net10. Contact your customer support. Please note that MMS uses mobile data and text messaging.

Yes, those are the same settings I used. MMS does not work.
The Nexus 4 is capable of MMS because it worked just fine on t-mobile.
Unfortunately T-mobiles network is weak in my area, which is why I switched carriers.

I'm just telling you that you'll probably have more luck contacting customer support and finding a correct answer (depending on customer service quality) than you will asking the populace of a message board that can't see the server side logs of messaging and data transactions. As long as your SMS and mobile data are working properly and you have the correct APN settings, there isn't a whole lot more than can be done on your side to look for problems aside from trying your SIM card in a known working phone.

Unfortunately Net10's support has been horrible.
I just thought that it was possible that someone on this forum had experienced the same issue and found a client side fix. (different apn settings etc..)
I'll try their support again. Thanks.

I went from net 10 to solavei. Net 10 sucks when it comes ton customer service. It took me 3 days to find the data APN online. MMS never worked

I have the AT&T sim. Unfortunately those settings do not work for me. I do not get any data when I use "wap.tracfone" as the apn.
When I use your settings, but I change the apn to "tfdata" I can send mms but I cannot receive mms. I get the message, but when I try to download the picture it says it can't receive it.

No, just stock messaging app.

Then just change WAP.tracfone to att.mvno
I have a att sim and that works fine so strange.

Tried that as well. Still no data. I just don't get it...
I even tried a new sim. And I have the same problem.
Is there no one on here that has net10 on a Nexus 4 working perfectly?

You are not alone. Can't download MMS either. Its not our phones. I'm on a pan tech flex. Worked perfect today, activated. New sim with a new number, now I can't download mms. I get the download message, but fails to download. Pop my other net10 sim in, works. Put mine back in, nothing. Everything else works, even sending MMS. But fails to download. CS was no support. They blamed it on my phone even though I told them my other net10 sim works with it. Tomorrow will be another battle. Its something on their end. Not ours. Not MMSC or MMS proxy combination works for me.

All I can think of is I know they have been creating all these new APNs. A week ago I had one set with the att.mvno but those all stopped working. Then I was given the "new! Wap.tracfone ones. Then activated this new sim and now I have the tfdata set. Maybe this new MMSC and MMS proxy isn't quite set up properly in their system. Or something with new account provisioning isn't right. I tried all the mmsc and mms proxies known to net10. Some worked and some didn't. But none would actually download mms. Would just deliver the download message. Its weird how some peoples accounts work with only certain APNS while others with exactly same accounts won't. The way their system works is quite interesting.

Thank you for the information.
This is truly frustrating. I wonder if switching to Straight talk would help.

Not sure it would help. My other Net10 sim works just fine. I assume you just activated your sim card recently? Apparently these new APNS are very new. As last week I was given different "new" APNS. Maybe their is a glitch in their system with them. Normally if MMS isn't going to work, its just not going to work period. But to send but not receive is baffling. If they can't fix it tomorrow, I will demand a transfer of my number to a fresh new account.

Yes, I just activated my sim two days ago.
I tried transferring my account to a different net10 sim I have. But I still can't download mms messages.
Both sims came in the same starter pack.
I wonder what could be different with your old net10 sim that would allow you to download mms, but not with your new one.
If you are using the same apn settings, it must be an account setting.
Their support is absolutely abysmal...
Please keep me updated if you are able to find a solution.
Thanks!

Well. My theory is, since some accounts only take to certain APN settings that, your account gets programmed with them. Which is why att.mvno and wap.tracfone don't work with this new sim, while it does with my other which has been activated for months. I think when a sim is activated, its programmed to only work with the current APN settings. Changing them on the phone won't work. Right now my old sim won't work with anything but wap.tracfone but my new one won't work with anything but tfdata. Its odd. So maybe our new sims Re programmed to work with the tfdata settings which are having issues on their server side of things being so new.

That makes sense! I will try calling their support today to see if I can have them change my account to allow the other APN's.

So after talking with support she was unable to resolve the issue.
She did say she escalated my account so that their technicians will look into the mms issue further.
She said she was not able to change the apn because that is something that is done on activation.
All the new sims are automatically activated with the tfdata apn.
After further discussion she decided to send me a new sim card so that I can transfer my service to it.
She told me to call back when I get the new sim.
The interesting part is that she said that when I call back, I can request that they activate the new sim with an old apn. (wap.tracfone or att.mvno) to see if it resolves the issue.
It will take 3-5 business days to get the new sim. I will report back with any further info.

Put in the sim card, go to settings - wireless and networks - mobile networks - check "on" Use packet data. Than press Acces point names and create new APN. Depends on what data plan you have you enter the APN settings. I am on grandfathered unlimited AT & T data plan so I created APN called cingular 410. All the settings for this APN you will find easy on this forum, if not, send me private email I will email it to you.It is not hard to set it up even if you are not really computer geek. ( I am not )

Thanks I have h+ and 3g working I just can't send pictures it just sits there with the circle rotating for ever...but I can get picture mail...what did I do wrong...PS thanks again
I was told just delete any apn in there. Create a new one and put ATT and Phone in the first two lines and the system will do the rest.
However, I have the same problem as the poster above, I can send/receive calls, get text but no picture message
It just sits there trying to send it out for ever...see picture below
At the bottom of your apn settings under apn type make sure you have internet and mms checked.
check but still no go on MMS
What is mmsc and what should that be at god this is really pissing me off I have done everything three time and still can't get it to work
I have this problem too! I added port 80 to my apn settings for mms port. At first I thought that cleared it up. But I still have a problem from time to time. Anyone?
Note: I only have issues with sending attachments, like pictures, to text messages (ie mms). Emailing attachments works fine.

Ok, I went through this drill with AT&T and it took a couple calls to get things sorted out after I activated my new line for my phone. I had precisely the same issue that you did where everything worked except MMS.
#1 - Be SURE they double checked that they provisioned your phone correctly on the back end. Unless your phone was correctly provisioned, your phone's APN settings don't mean jack. Ensure that AT&T setup your phone on the back end as though it was a Samsung Galaxy S2 (not the Skyrocket though). I had to get past tier 1 support to get my issues corrected.
#2 - Remove any and all APN entries you already have there and setup your phone as follows:
Under Settings\Mobile network settings: Use packet data (check to enable)
Tap 'Access Point Names'
Tap the menu button, left of the home button and choose 'New APN'
Name: AT&T WAP
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username <not set> - Leave this alone
Password: <not set> - Leave this alone
Server: <not set> - Leave this alone
MMSC: http:/mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: <not set> - Leave this alone
APN type: internet + mms
Do NOT forget to tap menu again and choose 'save'
This should work without rebooting the phone, but I rebooted mine anyway because they asked me to.
Again, make sure they correctly provisioned your phone and tell them that it should be setup as though it is a Galaxy S2 (not the Skyrocket).
My phone went from 3G/H+ with only sms and NO MMS reading/sending to full functionality once they fixed a provisioning issue AND only with the right APN settings, which AT&T gave me from their Galaxy S2 phone configs.
Enjoy.

the MMSC url should have read http with 2 slashes and not one like this: "http:/"
XDA won't let me post proper URL's until I have 8 posts, so forgive the intentional typo It keeps stopping me each time to try and find a way to fix it. I even had to wait 5 minutes to make the point of correction.
Spammers really have a way of making this suck for the rest of us...

T-Mobile MMS

I'm trying to send an MMS but it never sends. It has the arrow showing it's trying to send, but it never finishes.
Has anyone else had this issue? How have you resolved this?
It could be that your MMS settings are incorrect. Have you checked to see if that's the case?

No you don't. You just have to have the right settings. How do you think picture messages were sent before data plans were available? The correct settings should be in a middle post on the link below. I used this on my GN before I had a data plan.

You don't need a data PLAN, but MMS relies completely on data to work

I can't send MMS on T-Mobile either. Glad it just wasn't me. I was able to receive just fine though.
Also, to clarify, you do NOT need a data plan to use MMS. With that said, MMS does rely on data to send.
Ok so from all the mixed responses I'm reading is that you don't need a data plan, but you need data to send/receive MMS. So if you receive or send you will get charged for the data that's been used for the MMS?
And what monk4life said was true. I didn't need data on the older phones I had in order to send receive MMS.
I'm so confused, everyone's saying different things

It still uses data but you won't get charged for it as it is only used for MMS purposes.
OK just to clarify and end this thread.
1) you do not need a data plan for MMS.
2) MMS uses data so you must have data enabled on your phone (in the settings of the phone).
3) You will not get charged for using data when sending/receiving MMS.

I did not miss anything seeing how I do not have your issue, so your comment is FALSE! Just because YOU cant get it to work doesn't mean it is not working for everyone else.
The Stock messaging app works just fine for me sending and receiving mms on my N4 using T-Mobile without a data plan. You must have a wrong setting somewhere for your APN or make sure you have not disabled data completely. Or your not using the stock messaging app which could also be causing it as stated in the post above mine.

You wanted to end this thread because you clarified MMS does not require a data plan. However, the OP was about MMS not sending, not whether it uses data. Fortunately, the post above your post gave me a working solution. I had been using GoSMS.
Hopefully, this fixes the problem for the OP as well. Just gotta report this to GoSMS so they can update their app now.

Unable to receive SMS/MMS after porting to T-Mobile

Hello everyone,
I just joined T-mobile last week and ported over my old phone number to it. I'm able to receive and make phone calls just fine, but I'm unable to receive SMS/MMS messages. Oddly I can send them to my friends, and they have all confirmed receiving the messages (they called/emailed me to let me know). I was told it would take 2-8 hours on average to port my number over, but up to 48 hours worst case. It's been 5 days now.
I've contacted T-Mobile about 8 times now over the phone, and each time I'm told to check my APN settings, clear my data and cache in the messaging app, reboot the phone, put it into airplane mode then out of airplane mode. Nothing is working. Upon googling, some people have said to contact their technical department and to ask for a number rebroadcast. They're not working on this, and I hope it works as I sent and received several text messages on a daily basis, both work and personal.
Has anyone ever had issues like this? I'm scared that it'll never be fixed, and I really don't want to resort to getting a new phone number just to "fix" the issue. Some people on google in the past have said a rebroadcast has fixed it for them, while others have gone weeks without resolve. All of these horror stories were from 2009 or 10, so I'm hoping now that a few years have passed, T-Mobile has their act straightened and can fix this.
Try this: open the dialer and press *#*#4636#*#*
Then phone information.
Scroll down to SMSC and hit refresh. Make sure it reads "+12063130004",145. (Including quotations) if not change it to that.
See if that helps.
P.S. you may want to write down the smsc before you change it.

Scroll down to SMSC and hit refresh. Make sure it reads "+12063130004",145. (Including quotations) if not change it to that.
See if that helps.
P.S. you may want to write down the smsc before you change it.

It matched exactly. Not sure what to do but wait 24 hours like they said I guess. Although I've waited the past 3 days every time they've told me they were trying something new. I really do appreciate your help though. I noticed WCDMA was selected as my primary network type, is this correct?

Yep that's correct. Wcdma preferred. One more thing to check. Is your old phone still on? That can mess up SMS as well during porting.

I ported my number from a Google voice account. Friends of mine have done this a few times flawlessly, so I figured I'd port mine over too since everyone practically calls/texted me at that number. Google claims the number has been transferred completely over to T-mobile, so it's their issue if I'm not receiving SMS messages.
Hmmm. Well I'm out of ideas. Hopefully it sorts itself out Good luck!

I'm not on the prepaid plan if that helps. I noticed some users on google searches had different APN settings for prepaid plans. I'm on their new $50 unlimited text, talk, web plan. Also to jonapunk, funny thing is I can text myself and receive it near instantly, but I can't receive messages from other T-Mobile users, or any other carrier.

I don't think apn settings make a difference when it comes to your plan.
What radio are you on? Look under settings/about phone/ what are the last 2 digits where it says baseband version?
I would test it out on another phone, if that does not work it's mostly something wrong on t-mobiles side. Had a similar issue but it resorted itself out after some time when porting to t-mobile.

Universal Cricket MMS GB, ICS, JB Solution No Root Required!

UPDATED: 11/27/2013
FOR ANDROID 2.3-4.3
go to tinyurl.com/cricketpics on your phone.
download and install the cricket mms app to send and receive
IF THE ABOVE METHOD DONT WORK FOR ANDROID 2.3-4.2
go to mms.flashingtools.com & choose your android version
^^^^^NEWER METHOD^^^^^
OLDER METHOD
THIS IS A UNIVERSAL MMS CRICKET FIX...IT SHOULD WORK FOR MANY PHONES ON CRICKET!
I managed to find a temp mms solution for my Note 3 on Cricket wireless if you don't feel comfortable editing your build prop, or using root explorer yourself. YOU MUST HAVE TALK, TEXT, & WEB ON YOUR PHONE FOR THIS TO WORK!
This requires using two apps:
Chomp SMS to send mms(cant seem to get it to work on receiving)
Universal CKT app to receive which i provided (force closes when i try to send a mms not sure why)
First off make sure you disable any of your messaging apps "Auto Retrieve MMS" (i dont think it matters but I just have it that way)
Next: you will need to download chomp SMS from the Play store, once you install it open it and go under Settings>SMS & MMS Network Settings> go down to MMS Network Settings tab and click on APN Settings
Next step enter these exact settings:
MMSC: http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy: wap.mycricket.com
MMS Port: 8080
After you've entered them go back, and go down to "Send Size Limit" and choose 300KB & below that check the box on Delivery Report (not mandatory but shows when they receive it)
Now download and install the Universal CKT App which i provided with any file manager
and open the Universal CKT App, go to settings and enable Auto Retrieve MMS (once again i dont think it matters but I just have it that way)
Now try sending a mms using Chomp SMS(sender app)
and use the Universal CKT app to receive or download it (receiver app)
If Chomp SMS failed to send make sure you are sending with your wifi turned off & double check you APN settings
IF FOR SOME REASON YOUR APN SETTINGS ARE NOT STICKING ON CHOMP SMS, ENTER THEM WITH YOUR WIFI DISABLED..AND ALWAYS DISABLE IT WHEN SENDING A MMS

hey this actually worked perfectly. The only "problem" I guess you can say is that now I have two messaging apps, the regular one and this one. Is there a way to replace the regular one with this one? Or can I just delete the regular one, which (I'm guessing) would force the cricket mms to act as the default app? Thanks in advance.

U can just disable the notifications in the settings menu on the stock one...or if your rooted, freeze it with a freezing app to prevent it from working. That way u can also unfreeze anytime

Anyone know why even with the correct APNs on the new cricket GSM network, MMS won't receive. 100% of the time. But when I send about 1/8 times the person I send it to receives the picture?

See if these APN settings help, they solved the problem for me.
What problem is this solving?
Wait a second, is this fix still needed now that Cricket is GSM and no longer CDMA?
Mine still sends fine on my Sprint note 3

AT&T APN SETTINGS / MMS Can't download

Awhile back I was having an issue with group messaging and unable to download iphone users messages.
I ended up just re-doing my phone for other reasons.
Now, I am able to to view iphone user messages in a group chat, but now I can't view my husband's messages (android) in a group chat.
I've read to check the APN settings and a few other things.
So my question is what is your AT&T APN set at.
Also, do you have any issues with group messaging?

I think it's AT&T towers, of late I've had issues with very late e-mail deliveries and my voice not being heard by the other party. They have way to much traffic on their towers. Cricket, StraightTalk and a host of others all using AT&T towers.
My wife has an s6 edge and her group MMS won't download on my Moto x pure. Plain sms and direct MMS work fine. We're both on att but sperate accounts. Nothing I've tried works
Remove the "fota" from APN Type and it will work.

Incorrect... fota is "Firmware Over The Air" data type and is not relevant

We've figured it out.
My husband has a Note 4 and in his text messaging settings he had to change. Sorry, I can't remember what it was exactly but he said it was new in his text messaging settings. Once he changed that, it worked! I think it was something enhanced. Of course I would ask him but he's currently unreachable.
Hope this helps for now
Thanks for the tip I'll look at settings on my wife's phone when I can get my hands on it. I'll update later

I was actually told by an at&t representative that fota is a tablet setting. I would recommend removing it if you have any further problems.

fota = Firmware Over The Air
Meaning you can get OTA updates via mobile data if allowed on the server side... it is somewhat depreciated on retail devices, but has no negative effects. In carrier phones, where the OTA updates are distributed by the carrier, in some cases it can allow the update to come over mobile data where it normally would require WiFi. In order for this to work, your update application would have to request a "fota" data connection from the operating system.
I am aware this page only lists it for tablets, but it definitely applies to some phones.
BTW, I don't even have AT&T anymore... to expensive, moved to H20 Wireless.
