Nexus7 MultiROM multiboot roms test status - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried all presently available prepackaged Linux roms for Nexus7 under MultiROM environment. The result is not so satisfactory.
BodhiLinux: boots and runs smoothly, but has some strange bug in the mouse pointer: it seems the pointer is reflectional symmetric with the tap point on the screen, the reflection center is the center of the screen. This makes it extremely difficult to focus the current line of cursor while inputing.
ArchLinux: initially I downloaded a wrong package, with file type being tar.gz and get lost while installing. After rechecking the download site I got the correct image and made a successful installation. However, booting into Arch I end up with a black console screen with login prompt but cannot input anything there because there is no on screen keyboard.
Web OS: this guy installs and runs smoothly, but I am totally lost on the interface of this system. I know this isn't Linux, but besides the web app I found almost nothing useful in the system. I cannot find any reason running such a system instead of the default Android.
Ubuntu: at first this system runs, with frequent sluggish and warnings of problems. I thought more recent builds may improve the behavior and so tried the latest builds. Unfortunately, the new builds just boot into black screen with no responce to whatever operations. Hope this will be cured soon because the earlier partially working build feels that this should be THE CHOICE of all these systems.
I hope this information is useful to those wish to test other systems on their N7.

And I forgot to say something about Plasma. This system runs and looks promising, the Plasma Activity interface looks beautiful but feels alion to me as a twenty year user of Linux. Booting takes veeeery long, and sometimes the screen goes black and unrespontive. Anyway worth a try.

Crash your homescreen - FUN!

EDIT:
DEMO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEIt49Ycf7g
THIS BUG CAN BE USED TO CRASH ALMOST ANY ACTIVE APP ON SCREEN.
That weatherbug getting you down? That rss reader stuck in a sync loop? Just do the below with the screen open. It's not just limited to the homescreen as I first suspected. Our first close button would be a bug, who knew?
STILL CRASHING AS OF RC29.
============================================
Alright so I found a little bug, already reported it.
I have to say though, the crash recovery on android is AMAZING.
Try this -
With your phone in portrait, open the App drawer. Place your thumb on the touchscreen and use your thumb to slide the phone into landscape, wait 1 second, and slide it back... all while keeping your thumb on the touchscreen in the App drawer. You can release now and the touchscreen should be non-responsive.
It will crash android.process.acore in most cases.
Now hit force close and see how much time it takes your home screen to recover.
About 2 seconds, seriously. Rock solid. I mean, aside from the bug... rock solid
Is a difference between Windows and Linux, as are running the processes

What's your point?
Yes there is a difference, windows is an operating system, linux is just a kernel.
lol just crashed mine. took 2 seconds for the black screen to go away and the screen to come back, and another 4 seconds for the hone screen to fully load...
my point is that, is this happens in windows os you will have a big problem, in linux os the problems is for 2 second.
linux is more stable that windows.

You know... Windows is also a kernal as well. Windows NT machines, those based off the NT kernal. Are all the same, XP, NT, Vista, and most others made after 2000 are all using the windows NT Kernal. So we can compare windows kernals to linux kernals. Remember the kernals handle things like services, permissons, io devices, etc.
Technically if we want to be specific Apple uses a unix type kernal which is where the linux kernals came from.

Once again, linux is NOT an operating system. Now assuming we are speaking about Android OS, yes... The watchdog services are quick to restore the missing process once it terminates. And the fact that the GUI is so lightweight and powerful that it is restored from layout to objects in just a few seconds is definitely impressive.

Right, I do understand that. My quip is that we are talking about a crash recovery, which is handled by the OS. I'm complimenting Google on the work they did with Android OS, not the kernel sources they ganked from Linus.
And the NT kernel is a fine piece of work, but what usually sits on top of it makes me sick.
agree with you

Naa, for real it takes a minute to figure out and it does crash things on RC29... check the top of the thread for update.

That's what's so impressive. And I updated at the top guys, you can crash any application with this bug for now. Just slide the screen out and back with your thumb in the middle of the touch screen and BAM! Crashes whatever app has focus. Can be useful sometimes.
Added a youtube vid for those who are having trouble replicating the issue.

I crash mine like this and a blue screen came out XDDDD

Mozilla Fennec v1.9.3 Official Pre-Alpha

You will require at least a Nexus One smartphone if you were to get it up and running, where the entire download takes up 10.2MB of space. Bear in mind that there will definitely be niggling problems since this is hardly the finished article, but at least it gives you a preview of what's to come.
This build should be considered “pre-alpha”, so there are some warnings and caveats:
- We’ve only really tested this on the Motorola Droid and the Nexus One.
- It will likely not eat your phone, but bugs might cause your phone to stop responding, requiring a reboot.
- Memory usage of this build isn’t great — in many ways it’s a debug build, and we haven’t really done a lot of optimization yet. This could cause some problems with large pages, especially on low memory devices like the Droid.
- You’ll see the app exit and relaunch on first start, as well as on add-on installs; this is a quirk of our install process, and we’re working to get rid of it.
- You can’t open links from other apps using Fennec; we should have this for the next build.
- This build requires Android 2.0 or above, and likely an OpenGL ES 2.0 capable device

Never has a black screen excited me so much, at least it doesn't fc. Lol.

Windows 8 bugs

I want to change my OS with windows 8 but is still beta and i want to find out what bugs are. My friend had already told my about 2 of them but i want to find out if there more bugs.
I will apreciate any post
Actual bugs:
Photoshop crash
Sometimes the computer restarts when playing youtube videous
Windows 8 is nowhere near beta.
It's a developer preview.
As in a preview meant for developers.
Anyone know why my Asus touch screen does not allow touch screen with the developer preview? Works fine in 7 but when I go into partition 2 to windows 8 the touch screen won work and says my driver isn't installed...then it won't allow any drivers to be searched for...says thentouchscreen is unknown device
Ok go into windows 7 and go to program files... then go and copy the drivers from there to a flashdrive or external hard drive and the go into win 8 and paste drivers and install...my touch screen worked fine after that
Press THX! If this helped

Keep in mind that the currently available version really isn't a Beta. It was released predominatly to give developers and professional organizations an idea of where MS is going with the product.
I currently have had it installed on an Acer Iconia W500 for about 10 weeks now and use it for about an hour or so every night for casual surfing and some general messing-around-with.
On the one hand the fact that I CAN do this is a pretty good indication that MS is working to develop a solid product.
On the other hand the DP is NOT even close to bug free and is not entirely stable, and really should be regarded as experimental software in every sense of the word.
Just a short list of issues I've had:
Reluctance to connect to certain WiFi Routers and Controllers, escpecially those that are using some type of key-authentican method (more commonly found on Enteprise Networks). WiFi connection "dies" periodically and needs to be restarted, could be a driver issue, could be OS.
Metro IE can be slow, cranky, or hang altogether (but it does work well about 75% of the time). Some websites (TMZ.com comes to mind) can crash it almost every time.
Many of the Metro example apps are unstable.
Most programs WILL install via the "classic" desktop interface, but one needs to realize that everything that made previous versions of Windows so awkward and sucky on a Tablet still hold true on the DP of Windows 8 for legacy applications. The gestures and inputs needed to smoothly use legacy apps are either incomplete or non-existent in the Developer Preview.
A lot of my hoary old legacy apps (i.e. ones that were designed way back when Windows XP was new and have seen no real updates since) won't even install. I doubt very much that will be fixed. (If I were MS I would not fix those issues) Neither Picture Publisher or Digital Image Suite will work for example (again no surprise but I'll miss both)
I'm not trying to discourage you from doing this, indeed if you have a sense of adventure and like to live on the edge, go for it. But I personally would not install it on a primary PC (I have a very healthy Dell Laptop running Win x64 for doing real work) and you definately want to go in knowing that this is an incomplete and not-ready-for-prime-time product.
If you are reticent in any way, I'd wait about 4 weeks and the Consumer Preview will likely be out by then. Every expectation is that version will be several orders of magnitude better on the the completeness/stability scale.
They will change to Consumer Preview . Can't wait to fix this bug's

Will you still be using the chroot method, or some other way?
Waiting eagerly.
Where to start...
Zac,
A wonderful thing to see this thread start so quickly. / I was the one who posted a few days ago about running Deb Wheezy based on your build guide. But I'd like to help push this effort in any way i can. (and I can always run 2 img files since I boot my image from term as opposed to the app...)
My goal reason for the purchase was to be able to bring up X, and launch VPN and RDP / With the build I hacked together I am able to do so with XFCE / VPNc and remmeia / and as far as browsers go, iceweasel was the only one that would semi work. (chrome seg faults / and web would seem to launch and then just disappear...)
When it comes to the webtop, I know there have been some posts about chaning the resolution down to 120 that seemingly puts JB into tablet mode, but I found that to be less than useful once i got into chroot. I've never been happy with the display fonts on the webtop. (once i had a config where the fonts were clear etc, but i did something and lost it... ) But the biggest hurtle there I think in part is that it seems to mirror the 960x540 res / and once you increase it you have to pan. / If you use fit to screen in the menu it will fit it to screen but then the mouse clicks don't pass through...
If you are looking for bugs - what image would be the most helpful / easiest for your to work on? (deb/ubuntu/etc) and full/small etc.
as i will load that to be more useful...
and does it matter what the base rom is. (currently I'm on epinter's CM10 rom updated yesterday) if keeping things more uniform would help I can pop something else on for the time being...
One of the main issues I was getting when running the images was the desktop being gray on the ubuntu 12.04 image like everyone else, but even after getting another desktop loaded on certain programs would not launch. When i would try to launch them from terminal I would get a seg fault. also when I tried to step through the commands in the ~/.vnc/xstartup I was getting a seg fault there as well. (So I am guessing that's why the gray screen when I VNCed. / So the second question is, when I do get a Seg Fault, is there anything additional I can provide that may aid in diagnosing the issue?
Thank you again!

The 'normal' method is to use chroot (after all it does work very well just needs refining), when it comes to the webtop not 100% yet

Hey James,
Really the biggest issue with know of right now is the grey screen, and with the large ubuntu image unity not rendering correctly. So this will be the image I will be working on first.
As far as base ROMs it really shouldnt matter to much (of cause you will need a stock based ROM for webtop) I will be sticking to a stock base for now so if you where testing from a CM ROM that would be very useful to cover both main bases.
Just pointing out the issues is a good start, on Monday I plan to get cracking with it (had to push it back after not finishing unpacking and sorting my office yet) and should start on the bug squishing, and webtop version will be once I get a lapdock which should be once the device fund has finished.
2x mouse pointer
hello
I have the Atrix with the HD Dock and bluethooth mouse and keyboard.
I'm running Nottachtrix ROM which has HDMI landscape mirroring, this means I can use linuxonandroid with a mouse and keyboard in the dock. The problem is it doesn't see the mouse as a true mouse. I get two pointers, one from the VNC and one which is the bluetooth mouse.
Is there away of using the mouse normally?
thanks for any help

Hitting the menu button or fn-f1 should bring up the vnc program options. One of the choices is "input method" there's a few choices and you may to see what works best for you. (The options are like touch, pan, zoom and various combos if those. I haven't found the perfect one but it would the there I expect.
I've got problems on epinter CM10.
1. I can run only Debian
2. can't get su in Debian
3. sometimes, VNC says "disconnected"

Ovitz - yes. This is in part why Zac has this thread too. It seems the tegra2 is a little finicky. I was only able to run Debian as well and only with xfce. I created my own image to do so. It seemed to me that the desktop manager would seg fault and then everything else was an issue. A good start may be to go in to the home did for your user and look in the .vnc hidden directory. There will be a file localhost:0.log (the number may change but should be 0 on the standard image. When you locate the file you can use "cat localhost:0.log" to view it or even better add "> filename.txt" to redirect it to a file. And then you can post it. My guess is you will see a segmentation fault in there.
*disclaimer - I'm just an excited user that has been hoping and waiting to get this worked out on the atrix and not a dev...

I tried all the input method options available on androidVNC none were that good.
I'm a bit ruined as I've just unlocked the bootloader and installed nottachtrix with faux1.3 kernal and webtop flys, no lag at all, it even runs bbc iplayer HD.
I was hoping to to find a webtop replacement, as I use it alot, so I can run ICS or Jellybean but the combination of the pointer and the complicated start up is making me hesitate. Great to have it working though big thanks to the devs.

This is a product of the client. My mouse arrow floats above the remote one but anytime I click it jumps to the location and clicks as well. / I am not sure if there are "seemless" 1 to 1 clients with regards to the mouse. But there certainly are a number of vnc clients out there beyond androidvnc. I am sure for each one someone could tell you why it is the best ever or sucks....

Problem with Phoenix OS on a Lenovo X1 Tablet

I have been a Remix OS user for a while, and I love it, but decided to try Phoenix OS on my new X1! So far, I am not too impressed. Installation went smoothly, but unlike Remix, the OS is not pre-rooted. I was able to easily do that by reading another post on this forum, however! I like the idea that it is Android 7.1.1, but I am having the following problems:
1. The laptop restarts itself randomly while booted into it. Works fine while in Windows 10.
2. The screen will not auto rotate. I am getting some odd error on the Grub4dos screen at startup, but is goes by too quickly to see what it says, and the letters are too small. I have a feeling Phoenix has a problem with the hardware in the X1 that controls the screen position, but that is just a theory. The tablet seems to only auto start when it is moved.
3. The camera does not work. This is no real big deal, but nevertheless, it no workee!
4. Like Remix, you cannot install another launcher.
I am going to play with it a little more, but think I will just go back to Remix. The only other alternative I see is Android x86, but I am having problems finding clear instructions on how to install it. Is anybody else experiencing any of these problems on their devices?
Edit: Android x86 is not an option. I found easy instructions, but it does not support the Android Market, or Playstore.
Apparently RemixOS is not an option for the X1 either! It installs, but then just sticks at the "Android x86" screen and will not boot into it. I have removed both from the tablet. I just updated the tabs BIOS, so I may give PhoenixOS one more shot!
