Morning peeps, iv recently got myself a Nexus 7 32gb (Wifi model) currently running Android version 4.1.2, build JZ054K, however I have noticed that i dont have the ability to use multiple user accounts and some other functions that some of my friends do and iv seen that its because im not running on v 4.2 onwards, now, my device will not update to these latest versions (both 4.2.1 & 4.2.2) as every time i do it over the air i just get a failure with the andoid laying down with a red exclaimation mark over him, device restarts and im still on my old version. Iv tried a factory reset of the device etc but still will not update, iv also stopped the google services framework and run the update again, still no joy!
Iv read so many threads on so many sites about what the issues are etc and basically came to the conclusion that i firstly need to root my device, which iv successfully done using Wugfresh's 'Root Nexus toolkit 1.6.2' however im confused when it comes to manually updating my device to 4.2.2 so i have a couple of questions, apologies if these have probably been asked before but I have 2 newborns and really dont have the time to keep digging:
Firstly, where the hell do i find this 4.2.2 zip file as i cant seem to find a place to download it from at all? Also, i assume i copy and paste it somewhere in a directory whilst iv got my nexus hooked up to my laptop?
Also, do i need to update my device to 4.2.1 first then go to 4.2.2 afterwards?
Many thanks for any assistance
Just flash the factory image for 4.2.2. Search on Google for it, download the factory image, extract the .zip and run the flash-all.bat ( Windows) or flash-all.sh (Linux)
Sent from my Nexus 7 running Android 4.2.2
are there any trustworthy sources out there for this image?
iv found one, assume its correct for my particular build: on developers.google.com
Factory Images "nakasig" for Nexus 7 (GSM/HSPA+)

If you have a wifi device, it's not the good factory image you've found. You must download and flash a factory image for wifi model only.

See this, it's developers.google.com. Choose the one for grouper nakasi for the wifi only device (not nakasig). Download it and flash it using the flash-all.bat
It's official by google
Here is the diret download link for grouper nakasi (wifi only) :good:

I have my Nexus 7 [2012] Wifi only model with Android version 4.3 (JWR66Y) Rooted and TWRP recovery installed. I want to upgrade it to version 4.4 (KRT16O).
I have tried Nexus Root Toolkit (NRT) v1.7.6 with Factory Images of Nexus Devices which is downloaded from Google servers using the option Stock + Unrooting. After some process, my Nexus 7 holds on the boot loader screen. But on the NRT, it shows like flashing done and wait for some time to complete the booting.
Even if I wait upto 30Mins, there is no changes on the nexus device screen. I have attached some screens for reference.
I'm also tried by using OTA update file. While verifying the system, it shows me a error like '/system/bin/app-process' have wrong contents - Status 7.
Someone please guide me.
Success!

Problem with file extension was identified and rectified. :victory: Because of my download manager, the actual file was downloaded as "nakasi-krt16o-factory-db4a1a8a.tar" instead of "nakasi-krt16o-factory-db4a1a8a.tgz".

Factory Images for Nexus Devices :good:
So I currently have a 4.3 Purity Rom Nexus 4 and wish to do a fresh update to 4.4 (s). I'm in Fastboot and am unlocked.
I downloaded the factory image from Google, extracted, took the .tar file and dropped it in the 'google factory image to flash' folder in 'Unified Android Toolkit"... As I selected to flash my factory image, everything loaded fine and checked out on Skipsoft, it even flashed the radio with no fuss, but each time I try it always stops and says: "error: cannot opening system.img"
Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

I suggest you to try the wugfresh nexus toolkit , I found it to be more easy to use most of the time than skipsoft's .You don't have to extract the factory image while using wugfresh ,and it is normal to see two error like missing img ..I don't remember the exact error but in the process wugfresh toolkit mentions that.
I am currently running a 4.2 custom rom.
But I'm about to test SlimKat Rom with its stock kernel and someone in the coments said that runs even better with M-kernel, so i figured, why no try both, to see it for myself, but when I read the M-kernel post in the intruccions said that i need at least Version 4.18 of the boatloader, I've cheched and my nexus 7 has the 4.13 version.
For now i'm not gonna rush things and test the slimkat without touching the kernel, however, as i said i'd like to test is, and for that i have to upgrade the bootloader.
So my question is, is it safe to upgrade using Wug's Root Toolkit with a bootloader .img?? ( in witch case I could use a link for the latest bootloader)
Or do I justo flash a factory image so that the bootloader updates along with it?
Witch is safer? because I don't want to mess with the bootloader without being sure.
the factory install uses fastboot manually
all toolkits are just glorified wrappers around fastboot (and adb too, but that's not used for flashing bootloaders).
so which one is safer?
the one that allows you to check that the bootloader file sitting on your PC has the correct number of bytes and the correct MD5 signature.**
BTW, if you are upgrading to the 4.23 bootloader, at all costs avoid the files in the JWR66Y and KOT49H factory image. see the Urgent/Warning post over in the N7 General forum.
[WARNING][URGENT] N7 grouper (2012 WiFi) bootloader .img files from Google
**IMO the safest way to update the bootloader is via OTA. But to do that you would need to revert to a pure factory ROM that used the same version of bootloader you currently have on your phone.
Also, it is a good idea to do all flashing with a battery which is nearly fully charged.
Hello there,
I need a flashable Kernel [4.4 (KRT16S)] packed as a ZIP-file for usage with TWRP. ADB/Fastboot not working since USB seems to be corrupted.

Hi, catexecutive...
I was just about to post a possible solution... when I saw your thread title...[Nexus 7 Wi-Fi 2013] Need Kernel for 4.4 (KRT16S)
This forum is for the first generation Nexus 7 (2012), so you should really have posted your request somewhere here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7-2013.
------------------------------
However, here is my slightly amended solution...
If you're rooted and you can boot Android normally, and you can find a way of getting the boot.img file (kernel) from KRT16S on to your Nexus 7(2013)... (I use cloud based services (eg., Dropbox, Google Drive) for transferring small files between device's).
Anyway, once the boot.img file is available on your N7 (2013), you can then use the flashify app to flash it directly.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Hello all, this is a request for a build.prop file. I recently got the Android L OTA update on my Nexus 7 2013 WiFi. The update downloaded as normal, however when it tries to install I get the message:
Verifying current system...
"/system/build.prop" has unexpected contents.
My tablet is rooted, however I have never (intentionally, at least) modified my build.prop, and so I have no backup of it. Please could someone help me out and give me a copy of their build.prop.
I'm from the UK (IDK if that makes a difference). The Build Number is KTU84P.
Thanks,
Milo Pig
- you are in the wrong subforum. this is the Nexus 7 2012 section. you want to ask your request in the 2013 section here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7-2013/nexus-7-2013-qa
- if you don't get the file there here's a suggestion:
download the stock KTU84P 4.4.4 firmware for your Nexus 7 2013 (razor) from Google: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
extract the files. inside you'll find the stock system.img file. get your N7 in bootloader mode, then flash the stock system.img
this will restore your system partition to stock and should allow you to take the OTA. you'll lose root but you're gonna lose that anyway when you update to Lollipop, and you can easily get it back afterwards.
I assume you know the steps needed for all this. if not you can look through the general or help sections of the 2013 subforum I'm sure there are guide threads there.
