I would try a reset first. Maybe even a custom ROM or kernel. But at the same time, you don't want to be saddled with a defective device right off the bat.

You could try and see if there's an update, either 4.2.1 or even 4.2.2 waiting for you. Just go into settings and About phone and click update. If there is and your phone is still acting up, I'd take it back.

Flickering is a problem but I have the grey bars thing and I don't really think it's an issue. Every unit I've seen has it; I think it's just how the screen is and tbh unless you're looking for it it's unnoticeable.

Seems to be hardware issue

Ok I have a nexus one and I'm using Handcent OS, and i thought it was the program itself so I Decided to reset the phone to factory, and try it. It seems that after an amount of time of the phone being on it stops recieving data and sending it..like txt messages and I get network errors.. Is this a common bug or is my device buggy? because when i restart it, it all works again..but when I use it after awhile it will fail sending messages... and then I have to restart to finish sending my txt message...
my phone is doing this too. i thought it was just me. It does it with the stock SMS and Handcent as well. Just fails to send messages or send/receive calls. I hope it gets worked out, I love this phone to death!
P.s. I am not rooted

I'm not rooted either, because I love the phone stock... I would rather keep my warranty intact just incase something retarded happens. But yah I think its a software bug...or something to do with the 3g signal and all that signal bug thing going on...I love my phone too its so sexy..I love making my friends Iphone look like a piece of trash with icons..
A few times each week I get the exclamation mark in the red triangle when trying to text and I after I try a bunch more times it'll either work or Ill have to restart the phone. But I can't remember having an issue with phone calls. Sometimes ill dial and it will just hang up but it always works right after when I call again. There are a Lot of software issues that Im sure Google will address through time. Hopefully that's all this is....

anyone else notice the nexus one only flips one way and that left landscape and then back to normal? it doesn't flip in all directions when rotating the phone? Is that just my phone or is that known widely and will it be fixed?

I have this happen to me too intermittently. A quick reboot always resolves the issue. I just chalk it up to T-mobile network issues.

Same I think its tmobile too.. Oh well can't do anything about that..they just simply need to fix they towers...I got a tower about 3 miles down the road and its not very strong I only get 3g on the left side of my bed and I get edge when i walk to the right side of my bed lol
WE need a reboot application that reboots at night at least once everyday should fix it? ya think..Without root being needed....
Pinch to zoom needs to work in more than one spot... I've noticed in some spots it should be applicable and its not...depressing..
Glad to hear that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue.
It's not a T-Mobile network issue: If it regularly occurs, and rebooting your phone fixes it, then it's not an issue with T-Mo's network or SMSC, it's the phone.
Are there any bug reports filed with Google for this one? Does anyone else running non-stock ROMs have this problem as well?

One thing about typing its almost impossible to convey inflection so I don't know if you're kidding. If you aren't
, which would be weird, I don't know of any Android phones that flip any direction other than to the left for portrait. I'm sure there are custom roms that flip every which way but not stock
I'm not sure what you mean about zoom but it works in gallery, maps, browser and 3rd party apps can utilize it. Out of curiosity, where else did you think it should be available? I would say for documents but I guess that's a decision for the application's dev...

I get the sms fail bug intermittently and I am on CM 5.0.4.1 although I never seemed to notice it before I started using Handcent. I do love that app though, is there a different one that is comparable?
Yes CM5.0.4.1 does allow for 360 degree rotation. You can flip the phone upside down and it rotates!

I'm surprised I haven't seen a thread on here about reception issues. My 3G goes in and out , from 4 bars to 1 and even zero bars at times while the phone is staying in the exact spot. does anyone thing this is a hardware or software issue?
The lock screen totally lags. it's almost ridiculous I have about 4 frames for the entire animation of it sliding left to right
I can't figure out a way to make the SMS limit per conversation over 1000. The phone keeps deleting my texts =( Is there a way around this I'm missing ...?
Love the phone it just seems like there's a few REALLY silly stupid problems with it .
Edit:
My voice search just will not search my contacts... I noticed it will only find contacts which are synced with Google, however even though i have my options to sync my contacts. i still only have 5/173 of my contacts synced.
For some silly reason there is ONE person ( that i know of) who's facebook profile was not downloaded into my phonebook . I only care for the picture ID .. but it's odd every one else (whom i know of) was downloaded other than him, spoke to him there's nothing special about his profile.
Edit 2:
Has anyone noticed a clicking sound which sometimes happens whenever the camera is opened? It sounds as if something near the camera is physically clicking
any other droid 2 owners have these problems?
You're totally right about the 3G going in and out. I'm in my basement and when I'm on a call, it actually drops. Last night I called my g/f back from my house phone, and the bars jumped from 1 back to 4. Sometimes I get that 1X instead of 3G.
The phone totally has potential, I just hope a root comes out soon and we have a lot of room to play with. I came off the Motorola Cliq to the Droid 2 and honestly, even with my Cliq rooted, it seems way superior to the quality I'm getting on the Droid 2.
Let alone that the service provider is Verizon, the service should be the best... The only good thing I can say about the phone is that I'm able to watch flash videos off the web, and the new games coming out are actually playable without lag. Other than that, Tethering without root is like having PDAnet on my phone. I use EasyTether right now and it's not much faster that PDAnet. I also hope when root drops, j_r0dd from modmymobile gets his hands on it, I missed my white on black theme and I prefer the Droid X bootanimation on my start up.
have you tried the manual update to 2.2.20? I experienced the signal bug having my reception drop to 1x while it was 3g a minute before and the phone wasn't moved, but after i did the manual update to 2.2.20 by going to system -> software update i haven't seen it since.
With the unlock screen, I at first noticed lag but after reading motorolas recommendations on how a smartphone is like a computer and it should be shut off / rebooted occasionally, i did shut down a couple times and the phone is very smooth now and the unlock animation is perfect.
try shutting down the phone and unplugging the battery for a little and then put the battery back in and let it boot up. I believe the phone uses some kind of cache system that loads up frequently used items on startup, maybe that is why its smooth now.

The update did nothing for me =/... I've rebooted countless times, still nothing , the next thing that really aggravates is the text message limit... smart phones are supposed to have practically unlimited sms/phone book storage. I still can't find a way around it .
Biggest problems are the reception issues, considering it's most probably a hardware issue and no update will fix it=(

I don't know what to say, it was laggy when i first got the phone and after a few shutdowns and restarts over a couple days and a shutdown battery pull for 10 minutes and a reboot and its been perfect ever since. seems like you don't know what your doing.
Bull****. The slider to answer calls is smooth. The lockscreen is not and rebooting it does not fix it. Post a video so I can believe you. I even reset the phone and it didn't help.

I've had my Droid 2 since the release day, my first Verizon phone. I have to agree with the lock screen lag, but I have noticed something interesting with the reception issues. I'm new to verizon so I don't know if this happens with other verizon android phones but when I first wake the phone up from sleep I have one to no bars then 5-10 seconds later I usually have 4-5 bars. It seems as if the cdma radio/software goes into a type of power save mode durring sleep to save on battery power. If this is the case I can imagine the issue could be something to do the the power save mode hanging when the system wakes up, also power save mode could be a little too sensitive.
Now my inferences are completely unfounded in any knowledge other than my observations, and some basic knowledge of porting android to my old Att Tilt. If there is someone out there who knows more please correct me as I would love to stand corrected.

Yup same here, the slider to answer calls is fine. I've come to a conclusion its just a buggy OS moto prepared quickly. Let's hope for a real update soon.

after doing the 2.20 update my signal problems were all fixed and the phone works increible!!!
yes there is a little clicking sound when you go to the camera. If you look into the camera lends as you open the camera app you can see it sorta move a tiny bit so there might be some protectivething over the camera lens somewhere inside there but that is just a guess.

your asking for a lot right now. I'm not 100% sure what yours looks like but my animation at first was choppy. I noticed it the first couple times I used my phone. However after a few shutdowns and battery pulls the lock screen seems to be pretty smooth and it follows my finger with no lag.
I have also removed all the Motorola widgets from my home screens, not sure if that had something to do with it.
The 2.2.0 update did nothing whatsoever to fix my signal issues. Still getting wide variations in coverage and signal (1bar 1x RTT to 1 bar 3g to 3-4 bars 3g all from the same spot in multiple areas)
Have you tried using another launcher like launcher pro, it fixed the lag with my unlock screen, I think the blur uses up too much memory.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
The update did nothing to fix my signal issues. I don't have a problem with lag except in the gallery.
I called customer server to complain about the reception problems. The rep I talked to said Verizon is aware of the reception problems, but they aren't sure if it's the phone or the network.
He said there are other people in my area complaining of reception problems that don't have the Droid 2. He also mentioned something about areas that were mostly Alltel that are having problems. He did something on his end that is suppose to block some kind of signal having to do with Alltel and had me run the PRL update again, he said it could take up to 2 days for me to notice a difference if that was the problem.
I was also told to log each dropped call by dialing ### send.
I noticed something odd, yesterday I did a factory reset, after rooting. When I started to set everthing up I turned off the battery manager in settings, and since then it appears if all my reception issues have disappeared.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Is that something you can configure after a factory reset without root?
Yeah, if you go to settings, battery manager, battery mode, and set it to performance. Let me know if you notice anything different.

3G only shows and lights up if data transfer is occurring or if you have no 1X signal. The signal bars jump because the radio is not always transferring data (over 3G) and therefore you see it grab the signal (0-1 bars) then get full signal (3-4 bars depending on coverage of course) and once finished, bye bye.
This saves you battery. It is truly a SMARTphone. It also keeps bandwidth available to those also using a Motorola D2 and wondering the same thing.

I noticed this as well. Could be too much going on since you just turned your screen back on and apps are trying to update for you. Kind of like how you quickly pull your pants back up as your g/f is walking in the door and you act like nothing happened, but you were totally going to town.

Has anyone had their phone randomly reboot? It's happened to me twice now (twice in 4 weeks). Both times the phone was in my coat pocket and I felt it vibrate (which surprised me since all vibration effects are off), and was even more surprised to see the MT4G splash screen (meaning it was rebooting). The phone is not rooted and is running the stock OTA ROM.

Are you sure? I was hoping it wasn't since it does not happen frequently, which I would think it would if it was a real problem. I'd assumed it was just a software glitch (both times it's happened I've been in a building with weak signal). I'd really like to know for sure before sending it in, because that will most likely mean getting a re-manufactured unit.
EDIT: after thinking about it, I realized it happened before when receiving a text. The incoming message indicator briefly appeared, but before I could read it, the phone rebooted. I then texted the person who I assumed texted me, and indeed they had just texted me. That has only happened once (this was several weeks ago).
Happens to me about twice a week as well. I just live with it.

Was just browsing around to see if anyone else had this problem as I did. First time was when I just got it. The second time (same week) it rebooted when I was getting ready to text someone back who just text me.
Phones getting replaced because a dead pixel. Hopefully that one has a good screen like this one and no problems.
I know me and a few other people have been getting problems on downloading any apps on the market for some reason. Also I have noticed that some times my wifi icon and signal icon is green and other times they are gray.
Well I just figured out that I only get these problems downloading apps on the market while my icons are grey, but when the icons are green market works normal. Now I know that I still get data while the icons are grey, cause my web browsing works so it can't mean that im not receiving an active connection. Does anyone know what does the difference in colored icons mean?
Sorry if this is posted already and I posted in this section because I believe it has to deal with the fix of the market problem
Grey means that you aren't connected to google's sync servers. so yes this may be the cause of not being able to d/l
thanx cuz i remember someone asking about the color also but with no answer so what may be the reason why i am not connected to googles sync servers like 85% of the time? and is it possible to fix?
also this may be the cause of all the errors with gtalk connecting or not sending msgs ive been reading about
I'm getting the same errors too. Any fixes?

Mine only go grey when switching from EDGE to WiFi. the only thing i can suggest is a factory reset. also, is this happening when the phone is going down to edge? this may be what is causing the problem.
ill do a nandroid backup and then do a factory reset and post any updates
EDIT: so far its working im about to restore my phone tho cuz i forgot to make a titanium backup of my apps then ill wipe again ill post if it starts messing up again
My phone has not had this problem, but I have seen my wifes do this a few times. We both got the Nexus S today. We run on wifi here at home. I thought it was really odd when trying to get some items from the market.
It eventually turned green, but took about 30 seconds or so.
Does anyone's Nexus S ever just shut itself off after making a phonecall? Like after you are about to hang up, the phones just OFF. And it takes like 30 seconds-1 minute of holding the power button to get it to boot up again.
I haven't had that issue with mine, atleast not yet.

I'm still on 2.3.2. Had the phone since end of December.
It's just a weird problem. Like you know how when you hold the phone against your ear to talk, the screen goes black to save battery? And when you pull the phone away from your ear the screen is supposed to light back up. Except mine just stays black and the person on the other line hangs up, my phone just ends up turned off for some reason.
never heard of this problem.

I haven't gotten the 2.3.3 update to show up yet. I'm currently rooted via the method where the bootloader is still locked.

Hi, I have started having this issue just today.
I am running stock 2.3.3 rooted with KB3 base radio and netarchy's kernel 1.2.5.
The odd thing is that today was the first time it happened but it happened twice both times after i finished a call to the same person. So far it has only happened when i have been on a call with this person, but all other calls seem fine... very odd.
anyone have any ideas whats causing this? dont know if it has something to do with the baseband radio... i upgraded to KB3 from KB1 only yesterday and (perhaps coincidentally) the reboot after hang up started today...
