I used TiBa to move over my SMS logs from my Captivate but it seems that the text app wont load because ive run out of memory. When i look in settings>memory, it shows over 10 GB free. any ideas how to fix this?
looks like the max SMS history is 999 messages, any way to circumvent?
i'm having the same problem..i want to save all of my sms messages but it limited to 999. is there anyway to fix that? either apps or hack?
I use sms backup... Saves a copy of all sms messages to gmail... Easily grouped in conversation mode...no reason to keep them all on your phone anymore...

Legitimately curious question, but would you ever need/want to go beyond 999 SMS?
I'll bet other sms apps like handcent will work great
Hello.
I want to back up sms threads between myself and a specific person to gmail. I downloaded 'sms backup +' (which is quite nice), but i have yet to see how i am able to back up sms threads between myself and a specific person. I do not need to back up all my sms.
Any constructive input would be appreciated.
Thank you
If you want to keep certain messages on your phone but don't want them backed up to Gmail maybe you could back up all messages to you SD card, delete the messages you don't want in Gmail, back up to Gmail and then restore messages to your inbox from your SD card.
There is probably an easier way but I'm only halfway through my morning coffee
Thank you for the suggestion.
For what it's worth, the app "SMS Backup and Restore" (free) will allow you to backup selected conversations. Also it has a send to mail function built right in.
Might be easier

I'm trying to synch Hangouts app as my default SMS provider, but there's no way in this ROM!
My problem is that I don't want to use two apps with notifications when one of them is capable of doing both tasks. When I had my nexus 5, I used to send and receive SMS only by using Hangouts (an app that I also use for many other things), but now I don't have any SMS options: Neither an option to choose the default app for SMS in my system nor a function in Hangouts to add my SMS number as an account.
Does anyone know how to sort it out?
Thank you!
Hangouts just removed SMS capability. You need a switch to a new SMS app.
But the last version of Hangouts of my Nexus has SMS capability, how can I get a similar version?
My Moto X pure (on At&t) just updated to 7.0 and the messaging app changed to android messages. I can't figure out how to set the text limit, also are these messages now saving to the cloud ? If so how many messages does it save ?
deleted
Stock app is now Android Messages by Google, not an AOSP app... It does not store messages to the cloud at all, and it doesn't have the ability to set message limits that I have found. If you want more control I would suggest trying an alternative message app like Textra SMS or something similar.
So how many messages are stored before they are deleted ?

Umm unlimited? If you do want to backup to the cloud and use Android messages, checkout an SMS backup and restore app on the play store.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S10 plus and I'm using the stock Samsung messaging app. I am now trying to switch to the Google SMS messages app. I have switched back and forth between these apps a very long time ago although I can't remember when the last time was that I did it.
Now when I enable the Google SMS messages app as default, all of my incoming texts show up but none of my outgoing texts are there although they are all still there in the Samsung SMS app. I have tried using two different backup programs and both seem to be only backing up my incoming messages. I have tried clearing the cache on the new SMS app. I tried using Textra and Handcent just to make sure it isn't specifically the Google Messages app. Same issue. I really would like to switch to the Google app but I cannot lose the text messages.
This is very clearly an issue with the stock Samsung SMS app, I'm just hoping there's some kind of work around. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Suggestions are appreciated
Which sms backup apps did you use?
I used SMS Backup and Restore, SMS Backup+ and Super Backup and Restore.
I use SMS Backup and Restore and have no problems backing up both outgoing and incoming messages. Did you check the backup files? When I view them, I see my outgoing texts as well as the incoming texts. When I switched to Google Messages from Samsung's on the S8, I had no issues with seeing my outgoing texts. When I upgraded to the S10+ and restored my texts from SMS Backup and Restore, it restored everything, not just incoming texts.
