[Q] iPlayer on 4.2.2 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since installing 4.2.2 on my Nexus 4 and 7, BBC iPlayer is no longer working. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it an issue with the new ROM or iPlayer?
Thanks

Likely an issue with BBC. They did the same when 4.2 came out and issued an update fairly soon after.
If you can grab it from a 4.2.1 backup it'll likely work

I restored the app from a backup and get an FC whenever I try to play a video.

Works fine for me. Stock 4.2.2 and Franco kernel r83.

Google Hangouts force close

I've flashed the new 4.3 rom and the new radio .83 and bootloader. Everything seems to work great other than mx player which I know is currently not yet compatible. The issue I am having is Google hangouts it keep force closing. The only success I've had is restoring app and data using titanium backup and even that is only temporary. I have wiped data I've also uninstalled hangouts and reinstalled it using the playstore but no success, any ideas?

4.3 is currently a leak. So don't expect every app to work. And we do not know that the current hangouts supports 4.3.
I'm sure we are probably atleast a month away from anything official.

(Q) to people who stay on stock and don't root..

Don't take this offensively... But I want to ask people who don't root their Nexus 7, why don't you? It seems like people who aren't rooted are running into problems more than the people who are rooted.

Even though I have all my phone rooted I never considered rooting the tablet. It runs stable enough, is a nexus device so will be updated to the latest android version which the hardware supports and most importantly Sky Go doesn't work reliably on rooted devices

My example of the tablet not running reliably is the EMMC slow down because fstrim wasn't enabled until 4.3 by default. While rooted, you had the option of manually running fstrim or using an app to do it. Though Sky Go seems like a reason I'd stay away from rooting. Some apps even bar you from using them. I'd probably using OTA Root Keeper and temporarily disable root.

I've never really experienced any slowdown, but strangely enough I was watching an xda video this morning about something related. I have tried OTA Root Keeper and similar apps and Sky Go seemed to detect them. Only way I found to do it was to as you say temp unroot, uninstall super user app etc. Found it too much of a pain.
If I did start experiencing issues like slowdowns etc, I wouldn't hesitate to root. One thing I am missing is per app DPI settings from PA.

Nandroid your stock setup, and go back to PA buddy lol. I'm sure there's a way around Sky Go and someone else has had the same problem.

Here, maybe try this for bypassing those pesky I have root problems.

Edit : may not work if you are on 4.3 unfortunately.

I did actually use this and it did work on 4.2.2
Only problem is you have to re-authenticate all your root apps. Not a big issue, I suggested to the author that before uninstalling the root app it backed up the data then restored it on reinstalling.

What about using multi-ROM to dual boot a rooted ROM and a bone stock ROM? It would be the best of both worlds and you'd only need a simple reboot to switch back and forth.

Wifi in 4.4

I'm using and loving thunderkat 4.4, but my wifi speed is abominable. Is there a radio or patch that can be flashed to help this? I did factory wipe prior to installing even thoug coming from tk 4.3.
Thx

I have this problem also. Jumping onto the Note 3 and no problems so it's definitely 4.4. Have factory reset and cleared internal memory so it's happening to a clean slate.
Yup. On speedtest I'm now getting 20mb/s but yputube still stutters like a mofo. doesn't on my phone. Have tried clearing data for youtube. No different

Every 4.4 rom I've tried for Manta has this issue...
But 4.4 on my Nexus5 is fine on wifi
I sideloaded 4.4.1 yesterday and it seemed to help quite a bit. Now they've just released 4.4.2 so I'll try that later after work...

I'm too lazy to backup & unroot & back to stock to get 1.7mb of OTA... Should I just ignore this one?
It seems to be trivial enough.. 1.7mb?

I am, At least until I see reports of the N7 shooting flames out of its tail pipes and burning rubber from the new update.
4.4.2 alraedy?
I just got 4.4.2 update download as well, didn't even receive the 4.4.1 notice yet. Won't install for now, will wait for Franco kernel to be updated as well as bionic/dalvik patches.

Haven't even gotten 4.4.1 yet, still on 4.4. What's the speed of this rolling out. I know it's based on serial numbers, but folks already getting 4.4.2 while some of us haven't even gotten 4.4.1.
Has anyone tried OTA Survival Mode yet with recent (1.55 and above if I am correct) SuperSu Pro? I read about succesful updates from 4.3 to 4.4 and 4.4 to 4.4.1 with our device while keeping root, but also about soft-bricked devices. Would make life easier if it works because I have stock recovery and wouldn't need to temporaryly adb load TWRP via Usb every time after OTA to reroot.

I never saw 4.4.1 but 4.4.2 is installing right now. First I was aware that there was a 4.4.2.
I got it OTA. No difference at all. Except the keyboard noise now sounds like a kids toy.
Edit: After using it a bit I think video performance is a lot better, seems more stable. And YouTube now works properly for me.
just got mine it was 58mb
(i didn't receive the 4.4.1 ota update)

OTA updates are always slow. If you want 4.4.2 now; download the image file and flash it via fastboot. Make sure to back up all your files to a computer.
