Just switch to go SMS from handcent. With handcent the pop up text went over the lockscreen no problem with go with MS I have to unlock the screen to read my new text is there anyway to get it to go over the lock screen like it did with handcent? Thanks in advance

What about turning a lock screen pattern on or download sms popup and turn on the privacy setting. See what that does.

Get handcent sms from the market it's free, and disable your normal sms app notification. In handcent you can customise just about everything, including pop ups etc.
agreed. handcent has the option to have the popup on the lock screen or below the lock screen
Is there a way to prevent display if sms messages in the lock screen? Or do I have to go to the ugly stock lock screen?

I've gone and replaced the stock SMS with Handcent and turned off notifications for messages in the stock app. Handcent really does kick butt anyway. Win-win.
Ok, this is really bothering me. I know if you go to the contacts list you can choose to dial or text, but if you choose to send a new sms from messaging how do you get it to go to contacts? It doesn't auto complete and it doesn't recognize if you just use the name. The same thing happens in pictures or the gallery. Like the other night I chopped off the tip of my left pointer finger and wanted to share the picture with my brother, but I didn't have the time to navigate through the contacts before I needed some paper towels. Is there an easier way?

Been using Handcent for a couple days. I like the easy access to contacts, but I'm unsure about the screen waking up every time and the fact that it gives me 3 separate notifications in the status bar for each message. Thanks for your suggestion.
Hi maye, go into messaging app and turn off notifications... You would only get 1 notification then

Everytime I receive a text message the phone rings and vibrate but the screen does not turn on to show the message or anything. I don't listen/feel the phone all of the time and I don't notice messages untill I turn on the phone manually to call someone. Is there a way to turn the screen on everytime a text message arrives?
Get handcent SMS it has a pop up feature that will turn on the screen when you get a message.

It worked! I had to disable all the notifications from Handcent because I was getting 2 sms rings. It's working flawless now. Thanks a lot
if you just want the pop up feature with out having a whole new sms app, try pop up sms too. choice choice choice.
I see the same generic icon when I get an email or text. I can change the sound I get but is it poosible to change the icon to be different for email than texts? I had this on my old droid charge but cant seem to find where to change it on this phone.
I swicthed to Nova launcher but I am not rooted or anything.

You could use an alternate mail app, or use an app which'll notify you of a new SMS and turn off the stock SMS notifications. Take a look at "SMS popup", you can use it for SMS notification without using the popup thing.
