Is there a way to prevent display if sms messages in the lock screen? Or do I have to go to the ugly stock lock screen?

I've gone and replaced the stock SMS with Handcent and turned off notifications for messages in the stock app. Handcent really does kick butt anyway. Win-win.

What about turning a lock screen pattern on or download sms popup and turn on the privacy setting. See what that does.

Get handcent sms from the market it's free, and disable your normal sms app notification. In handcent you can customise just about everything, including pop ups etc.
agreed. handcent has the option to have the popup on the lock screen or below the lock screen
Would love to see a modified touchwiz launcher that swapped out the default messaging app shortcut with one for handcent. Also, it would be cool for the unlock to unread message shortcut on the lockscreen to go straight to handcent, thought I believe that may be more difficult, as the notification showing up on the lockscreen is actually produced by the stock messaging app as part of its notification.
Thoughts, ideas?

Looks like the stock messaging app notification. Disable from settings in the app.

That's the stock sense SMS icon. Did you do a full wipe????

Check your handcent notifications. I think it has an option to use that icon for messages.
Also, when you pull down the notification bar, and select that message, what happens? It should take you to the app causing the notification.

takes me to stock txt app and with default and handcent notifications turned off it still comes up did full wipe... its not there guess gotta install apps one at a time see which one is causing it

Just switch to go SMS from handcent. With handcent the pop up text went over the lockscreen no problem with go with MS I have to unlock the screen to read my new text is there anyway to get it to go over the lock screen like it did with handcent? Thanks in advance

I see the same generic icon when I get an email or text. I can change the sound I get but is it poosible to change the icon to be different for email than texts? I had this on my old droid charge but cant seem to find where to change it on this phone.
I swicthed to Nova launcher but I am not rooted or anything.

You could use an alternate mail app, or use an app which'll notify you of a new SMS and turn off the stock SMS notifications. Take a look at "SMS popup", you can use it for SMS notification without using the popup thing.
