[Q] Using remote desktop via adhoc network - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Nexus 10 that I just received a few days ago. Not having the best WiFi in my apartment, I set up an ad-hoc network via my laptop. I have always wanted to set up a remote desktop with either my smartphone or tablet and control my laptop (instead of using my wireless keyboard and mouse). Can anyone direct me to an app that would allow me to control my laptop via my Nexus 10 (or phone) when I'm in the ad hoc network? Thanks!

[Q] Non Ad Hoc Wifi

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm extremely new to all this.
I am trying to set up my MyTouch to be a wifi hotspot for my rooted Nook Color. From what I've been reading and experiencing in my efforts to get it to work, is that the NC doesn't recognize ad hoc wireless connections.
Is there any way around this?
Thanks for the help!
Jes
Sounds like you need to look for an android-wifi-tether application.
This program enables tethering (via wifi and bluetooth) for "rooted" handsets running android (such as the Android DevPhone 1). Clients (your laptop for example) can connect via wifi (ad-hoc mode) or bluetooth and get access to the internet using the 3G, 2G mobile connection or (in case you are using bluetooth) the wifi connection which is established by the handset.

Not what he's looking for. He's looking for an app that will broadcast an actual network, not just an ad-hoc connection, which that app does.

[Q] Teather via Bluetooth?

Hi,
I often used to connect my laptop to my Windows Mobile via Bluetooth PAN in order that I could get internet access on the laptop whilst in a remote location. Is there anyway to do this on an Android HTC Desire, or any other kind of wireless tethering?
Sorry, just seen the Portable WiFi Hotspot feature in the Wireless and Network settings. I'm guessing I can achieve the same thing ia this method rather than bluetooth

[Q] how to connect KF to other android?

I have kindle fire and lg optimus one, how can i connect them so that i can share files wirelessly wwithout internet connection?
in file expert from the market is a ftp server included
just connect to the ip of the other one and share over your wifi
Oops - sorry, it's early in the morning. The Fire doesn't have 3G. I use my phone as a hot spot, and installed Frostwire on both devices (available from the Amazon App Store).
B63 - can i use FE directly with just 2 android device or i still need to connect the devices in wifi router?
i do it over wifi router - also with other devices (kf,gtab,2x laptop)
don't think a direct connection is possible with fe
but over tethering with the lg it should work - theroratically
i'm only tethering with laptop at work and connect from kf to the laptop - not the other way
for tethering it depends on the mode your lg can do:
hotspot mode - nothing more needed - kf should find it
adhoc mode - use zt180 adhoc switcher from the market at the kf
Ok thanks for the help

Tethering with laptop
[QUOTE=b63;22311667
i'm only tethering with laptop at work and connect from kf to the laptop - not the other way- I need help in that area. My laptop Win7 has a built in modem (not a USB dongle) to access the Internet, besides bluetooth and Wi-fi. I had created an Adhoc connection using WEP. I could never successfully create a hotspot using Bzeek, that is the reason I had to manually create an adhoc network connection. The Adhoc connection is waiting for the user to connect.
adhoc mode - using zt180 adhoc switcher from the market at the kf, I had setup the SSID and WEP security code for Adhoc connection. ZT180 Adhoc connects to laptop, which I can see as connected, but no internet is available in KF. It times out on both ends.
I need your help in resolving the issue.
i'm using "connectify" on my laptop - just google for it
never tried bzeek - connectify works perfekt for me
furthermore i use proxydroid on the kf cause my work laptop is connected to the internet over a proxy - but that should not be necessary for you
Connectify is nice but I hate it since they went paid... there's also VirtualWifiRouter for win7.
But I use Maryfi... it works all of the time and seems less intrusive. Plus my wifes name is Mary.
@B63:
You helped me with flying colors again. Connectify Pro did the job for me effortlessly and I am now able to tether to my laptop if Wi-Fi is not available.

[Q] Portable Hotspot/LAN

Is it possible to use the portable hotspot feature on the nexus 4 to create a LAN? ie. Chromecast without a wifi network. The idea being that you set up a LAN on the N4, which Chromecast connects to, without needing a wifi network.

[Q] Can I Tether A Wi-Fi Connection

Hi guys. This might be a silly question, but here goes.
I am currently staying in a hotel with my family abroad. Each room gets only one username and password for their Wi-Fi network. Once used, no other device can use that username and password. The problem is that there are 3 devices in the room.
I was wondering if I could use that connection on my note 3 and wirelessly tether the connection to everyone else.
I have managed to do this through Bluetooth tethering to a note tablet, but the third device is my dad's iPad so I don't think that's gonna work. My best bet is Wi-Fi tethering to him.
Wireless tethering is disabled when I'm connected to the Wi-Fi network, so I guess my best bet is an app.
Is this possible, and how?
You can use wifi hot spot on your device if iirc, then run the other devices via the Note.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If you have a laptop, you could connect to the wifi through your phone, and then tether your phone to the laptop via USB. Then install a hotspot program on the laptop to enable other devices to connect to the laptop, as if it were a router.
