[Q] how to connect KF to other android? - Kindle Fire General

I have kindle fire and lg optimus one, how can i connect them so that i can share files wirelessly wwithout internet connection?

in file expert from the market is a ftp server included
just connect to the ip of the other one and share over your wifi

Oops - sorry, it's early in the morning. The Fire doesn't have 3G. I use my phone as a hot spot, and installed Frostwire on both devices (available from the Amazon App Store).

B63 - can i use FE directly with just 2 android device or i still need to connect the devices in wifi router?

i do it over wifi router - also with other devices (kf,gtab,2x laptop)
don't think a direct connection is possible with fe
but over tethering with the lg it should work - theroratically
i'm only tethering with laptop at work and connect from kf to the laptop - not the other way
for tethering it depends on the mode your lg can do:
hotspot mode - nothing more needed - kf should find it
adhoc mode - use zt180 adhoc switcher from the market at the kf

Ok thanks for the help

B63,
Can you tell me the step by step on how to use the file expert?

i don'd have my kf with me right now, but have found a "manual":

Tethering with laptop
[QUOTE=b63;22311667
i'm only tethering with laptop at work and connect from kf to the laptop - not the other way- I need help in that area. My laptop Win7 has a built in modem (not a USB dongle) to access the Internet, besides bluetooth and Wi-fi. I had created an Adhoc connection using WEP. I could never successfully create a hotspot using Bzeek, that is the reason I had to manually create an adhoc network connection. The Adhoc connection is waiting for the user to connect.
adhoc mode - using zt180 adhoc switcher from the market at the kf, I had setup the SSID and WEP security code for Adhoc connection. ZT180 Adhoc connects to laptop, which I can see as connected, but no internet is available in KF. It times out on both ends.
I need your help in resolving the issue.

i'm using "connectify" on my laptop - just google for it
never tried bzeek - connectify works perfekt for me
furthermore i use proxydroid on the kf cause my work laptop is connected to the internet over a proxy - but that should not be necessary for you

Connectify is nice but I hate it since they went paid... there's also VirtualWifiRouter for win7.
But I use Maryfi... it works all of the time and seems less intrusive. Plus my wifes name is Mary.

@B63:
You helped me with flying colors again. Connectify Pro did the job for me effortlessly and I am now able to tether to my laptop if Wi-Fi is not available.

wifi sharing - works with iphone, not with pc

when I use the htc wifi sharing app, and my brother connects his iphone to my hd2, the wifi works great. but when I try to connect my pc with a usb dongle, 802.11g, it will connect to the phone but the phone never gives the pc an ip address. windows xp just says acquiring ip address and hangs.any idea what I cann try?
thanks in advance
Wifi Sharing seems to be fishy at best. I've had the best lcuck using 3rd party apps. The following I have connected with, iphone, netbook, laptop, some pc's. I havn't been able to connect with a PS3, and some PC's.
I was able to connect with my macbook pro and pc laptop, but I couldn't get the iphone to connect at all!
Make sure your phones router is set with a name that has NO spaces in it ..
Also make sure your windows machines or any other for that fact are set to see ad-hoc connections .. I will quote myself from another thread ..
One thing to keep in mind that this wifi "Router" is not really a router , it is an ad-hoc connection, if your connecting device is not set to see ad-hoc connections , if it is set to "infrastructure" or "Access Points" only, it will not see it/or will see it but not connect.
Also most M$ clients older than W7 do not like spaces in the names of Ad-Hoc connections so set the name of your "Router" to not have a space in it ..
for me tested on,
1.) W7 Toshiba Satellite Laptop = OK
2.) Asus Laptop = OK
3.) Dell Laptop = OK
4.) Xbox-360 wireless = NOT OK
5.) UTstarcom Wifi Phone = NOT OK

[Q] Alternative way to access the internet

Hi,
I connect my laptops to the internet through a university LAN, with static IP adress.
When I wanted to connect my HD2 to the internet while on WinMo, it was pretty easy - i just had to do it through activesync, over USB.
However, on Android I am finding it really hard, because I have a few problems:
1. I can't get any wifi router to work over this LAN (and I know others can't too);
2. Ad-hoc isn't working on android, and I also couldn't get the patches here on xda to work;
3. I've tried Connectify (turn ad-hoc into ap/hotspot) but also it didn't work;
So I am running out of ideas. I have mobile carrier internet access, but of course i have limited bandwidth and trafic, and it would be much nicer to use my laptop's internet access.
Do you suggest any workaround for this situation? Is anyone working on some kind of "reverse tethering" usb solution for the Android, a la ActiveSync? Maybe I should keep trying to get ad-hoc to work?
Thanks for your time and help!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I would like to keep my android build (i feel comfortable with sense) and changing to that build would help me with wifi tethering, but I am looking for something different... unless that build already supports ad-hoc networks. However, ad-hoc is so unpredictable that a different solution altogether would be best.
Luis
Any other ideas on this?

Try bridging your laptops wireless and wired lan connections under windows. That will make your hd2 as if it is connected directly to LAN. (Select both connections with CTRL and right click bridge)

Unfortunately, as I have stated before, I can't connect the HD2 to my laptop via wi-fi, because I can't get ad-hoc to work properly on the HD2. But thanks for your suggestion.

Did you try connectify in Access Point mode? (Connectify supports ad-hoc mode with every wifi chipset and real ap mode with some wifi chipsets)
Check: http://www.connectify.me/docs/supportedcards.html for AP mode compatible wifi chipsets and drivers.
You may get a cheap wifi card or usb wifi that is compatible with connectify ap mode.
Second solution: (Reverse usb tether method)
Another solution would be finding a Android build that has known working usb tether mode such as shubcraft 1.4c rmnet and connecting it to pc then bridging the usb and ethernet over a Linux computer. That will make the usb tether in reverse direction. You need a linux computer or a virtual machine with linux. Difficult but possible.
Follow these steps: http://blog.mycila.com/2010/06/reverse-usb-tethering-with-android-22.html
Third solution: (Share internet over bluetooth)
You can try this one too: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=1285 and http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=445 You need a bluetooth module with lan profile support on your pc. Should be cheap if not already integrated to your pc.
I haven't tested due to lack of time. Could you provide feedback?

Thanks for taking the time to help me with a thorough, well written reply
Fortunately, I managed to solve my problem with a variation of your first solution
I had tried Connectify before. On my (older) HP laptop, it only provided ad-hoc networking. But on my eee-pc, it was able to work on AP mode. However, I couldn't connect to it from any of my devices, Android, WinMo or even my other laptop (Win 7).
So I did a little more research to check if there were any other apps available that would take advantage of Win7's ability to more or less easily create a hot spot (based on its Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter) and I found this one: Virtual Router.
http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/
I absolutely recommend it!
It worked flawlessly on my eee-pc and I manage to connect to it my (other) win 7 laptop, a touch HD on winmo, and my touch hd2 on both android and winmo, without a single glitch. So now I am using my LAN's internet access on my HD2 on Android through wifi, without having to use a wifi router or establishing any ad-hoc networks.
So problem solved (for now)!
Thanks for your help anyway. I hope that others may also find this app useful.
Luís
Well thank YOU, now me and also the community has a reverse wifi tether solution for Android.
solved
dude...use "mhotspot"
without installing the software....u can create the hotspot..its working great for my "ace"

How to share my laptop internet connection with Galaxy S?

hI,
I have configured an adhoc wireless network. I can connect to it using other laptop and access to the internet. But SGS can´t find that network.
Can someone help?
Android OS doesn't support adhoc wireless.
If your laptop is running Windows 7, give this a try:
http://tameyourpc.blogspot.com/2009/07/windows-7-as-wireless-access-point.html
This will set your laptop up as a wireless AP, not adhoc wireless.
Try Virtual Router also
http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/
If you have a Intel W-Lan Chipset you also can download Intel MyWifi to set up your Laptop as a Router. Works very well on mine.
There are lots of Windows 7 WiFi Router softwares.. I have personally used this: http://connectify.me/
connectify.me is mentioned in my link as well. Basically they all use the undocumented Windows 7 feature to make a wireless AP. You can use 3rd party app to configure and enable the feature or just use simple script to do so.
The reason it is undocumented is because the feature does not always work.
Guys, thanks for all replies! I'm running win 7 . My wireless card is: "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG".
Do you know if connectify will work?
EDIT:
I don't have the "Access Point" option! Why?
I just have Ad-Hoc WEP and Open.
This means it won't work?

[Q] Ad Hoc WIFI Issues

Hi All,
I need some help with WIFI. I've set up my pc (connected via ethernet) to share internet via an Ad Hoc WIFI connection. The connection works but I have to manually connect to it every time. How do I make Android treat Ad Hoc networks same as Router based WIFI?
Thanks
I can't answer your question but I can, however, provide you with a possible workaround.
If you're using Windows 7, download and install a free software called Connectify. It turns your PC into a full blown access point. Just used it during a trip to share a hotel ethernet connection and it worked like a charm.
Thanks for replying. I heard about connectify but I use XP.

A Nice Method for Kindle Fire connecting to Ad-Hoc WiFi from Laptop

There's no developer published wpa_supplicant replacement for Kindle Fire's system/bin/wpa_supplicant till now.
So I find ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher.apk is so well to switch Kindle Fire to support Ad-hoc WiFi.
download link:
ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher.apk(174.35K)

A lot of ways to setuo WiFi hotspot with laptop, but Bzeek is the most useful one and it supports both Win XP and Vista.
Bzeek(supports XP & Win7)
http://www.bzeek.com/static/index.html
download:
http://www.bzeek.com/static/bzeekPlugin/bzeekPlugin-setup.exe
I met a problem with Bzeek as well as lots of guys met that after restart the Windows, Bzeek is alway Off instead of On, even you can't turn it On.
So I check google and found that
Personal Hotspot Status
Your Personal Hotspot is Off
Some of the Bzeek settings are not yet in effect. Please restart your computer for the Bzeek settings to take effect. If the problem persists, please contact Bzeek for support.

Admin reply:
Maybe the Bzeek service is not running for some reason on your machine.
If it is not solved after boot you can run services.msc and make sure the bzeek service is running.

It's a BUG for Bzeek due to their lack of maintance?
So manually if you like, you should go to
Start > Run > services.msc
Open Windows System Services
Get Bzeek Service and make it START
For easy use I build .bat file to TURN ON or TURN OFF Bzeek Free WiFi service effeciently. You can download them here
BzeekTurnOn.bat(18B)
http://dl.dbank.com/c04pwaal9s
BzeekTurnOff.bat(18B)
http://dl.dbank.com/c04pwaal9s
included scripts are simple so you can build your own:
net start bzeeksvc

for START
net stop bzeeksvc

for STOP
Install ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher.apk
Before running it you'd better ROOT your Kindle Fire for higher user ability.
Run ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher
You should see Switch to Infrastructure mode / Switch to Ad-hoc mode button.
Click Switch to Infrastructure mode and it turns to Switch to Ad-hoc mode then you can click Settings button to set SSID and WEP password if possible.
I put into Bzeek Free WiFi as SSID as I'm using Bzeek and WEP is not selected for Bzeek. If you use other name and with WEP, just do your way.
Now the button display Switch to Ad-hoc mode, just click it and turn it to
Ad-hoc Mode, click Enable WiFi button and it will connect to Bzeek Free WiFi rapidly
Then it will ask you put in your Bzeek username and password, finally you can share the internet with WiFi Ad-Hoc from your laptop happily!
I post this method to a Chinese forum and you can check screenshot images and download links there better.
http://bbs.mydoo.cn/thread-54577-1-1.html
Succeeded to connect to an Ad-hoc, thx for your method. XD
The method can be shorten as below
1. Go find ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher.apk , just google it, there will be several links.
2. Install the apk on a rooted KF.
3. Open it, tap settings before switch to Ad-hoc Mode
4. Input the SSID of the Ad-hoc WIFI you want to connect to. Also fill WEP (if needed) area.
5. Switch to Ad-hoc Mode. Wait a minute and you'll find your KF is connected to the Ad-hoc specified above.
There will be a "x" on KF's WIFI mark, but it doesn't matter, the ad-hoc link is working.
I tested connecting to my PSP, iPhone, Laptop(win7, ad-hoc wizard provided by OS), so I think it support all kind of Ad-hoc. Did a ping test to iPhone and Laptop for confirming. Ping works, so I think it should work fine.
P.S.
Seems it has no thing to do with Bzeek. Just use any ad-hoc.
Sure, actually Bzeek is a solution for my LAN in LAN network to share the internet service.
Any Ad-Hoc is supported!
iphone, PSP, Laptop ...
Worked nicely! Got it to work, but now I cannot get back into "Infrastructure Mode".
I even went as far as doing a device reset through the device settings. Now I can't even register my device. ---Tread with caution---
Wouldn't recomend "zt-180 ad hoc switcher" on the Kindle fire.
EDIT: STRIKE THE ABOVE COMMENT. Stupid me, spent hours looking at file permissions etc, and even did a unroot and reset. My problem? For some reason my KF was the only hardware not connecting to my router. A router reboot fixed it. KF found and connected instantly after rebooting the router.
for me it works perfect - if somthing goes wrong look for the wpa_supplicant.conf in /data/misc/wifi. delete all entries except the first two.
they should be:
ctrl_interface=tiwlan0
update_config=1
save the file and turn on wifi
can someone provide me the original wpa_supplicant
can someone provide me the original wpa_supplicant , I overwrited that file last night and the system restarts repeatedly when opening applications.
the original wpa_supplicant from system\bin ...
Is there an app which can scan for unencrpyted ad-hoc connections ? Thanks
look for 'Wifi Analyzer' on the market
Damn... I tried this. Couldn't install ZT-180 at first as it was missing something so I needed to install busybox (had to use the "busybox installer" app from the market as the "busybox" app didn't work).
Got ZT-180 working and tried sharing my PC's VPN ethernet connection over adhoc... but it keeps dropping out. Is there a problem with sharing VPN connections over adhoc networks, I had this problem with connectify.me too.
I really really need VPN on the Fire as I can't seem to get it sharing from my PC...
For CM7, I've successfully let my kindle fire connect my WiFi hotspot of my android mobile through ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher.apk.
I've tried several versions of CM9, seems no current versions could find/connect ad-hoc WIFI, ever using ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher.
Anyone got the same situation? or get any solution? thank
I tried this application ad hoc mode in my rooted kindle. I started my barnacle wifi tether using my sony ericcson w8......kindle could not see the broadcasted ssid. Why? Pls advise.
if you use zt-180 adhoc switcher then you have to configure the options
enter your ssid & configure your security

help!about ad-hoc
To use the Notebook to share the WIFI is always useful, especially when you don't have a Wireless router.
The WIFI shared by computer is AD-HOC mod,and the KF can't find it.I have tried many methods to solve it but not work.Even use the software-ZT-180 ADHOC switcher, the KF can connect to the WIFI,but still can't surf the internet.
Now my KF is using the 6.3 version.
Who knows the method for it please help me.Thinks a lot!
i'm using connectify on the laptop - just google for it
without it i had the same issue ...
