Drop it. No way to do it. I've posted here just a few weeks ago, tried everything, with no luck. It simply isn't possible with the latest ActiveSync 4.1, and the older one 3.8 which has the wifi functionality, is not compatible with WM 5.0.
So forget about it. You can connect through wifi, but no synching...
Thank you very much but what is the benefith to connect through wifi?? i cant even send a file or connect to internet!!! At list give me a clue to conect Internet through WiFi & PC. but i think if we do the right Setting for IP in WiFi we would get connected some how....
Connecting through wifi gives you some good things... FOr one, I can stream all my mp3, and movie collection through wifi from PC to my prophet in real time... Yes, even movies work perfectly. So you don't have to keep your mem card full. And you can transfer files to/from PC with little problem.
To set it up, just set up a network on your pc, turn on wifi. Your prophet will discover it, and you can connect to it. Then you need a program like PocketLan, and you can set up a network folder in your prophet which lets you view all the folders you have placed on share on the PC. (so you have to place some folders on share).
I haven't tested sharing an internet connection, but it should not be a problem. I will test tomorrow or tuesday, and let you know.

Resco File Explorer will let you add "share drives" also. You can add directories or drives.

It seems that sharing internet connection through wifi is NOT possible with WM5... They have just ruined everything with this stupid upgrade of activesync!
Anyone aware of a work arround so my PC internet connection works on my PPC connected to it with ad-hoc wifi?
as i said i think with IP configuration there might be a way to share it. or i think XDA fellow should program a Stack for this issue on activesyns4.x

I have a wi-fi network at home and connect my Prophet to the internet without any problem, and so do thousands of other users.
If you have a wi-fi router, just set it to use the encryption supported by the Prophet. I found that using an authentication of "WPA-PSK" and encryption of TKIP works perfectly.
If you're setting up an ad-hoc network between a pc and the Prophet, you need to enable Internet Connection Sharing on the PC with the internet connection and voila'
You do not need activesync over wifi to use internet on the Prophet, just use it as a normal pc on wi-fi network. However what they have not been able to do till now is enable Activesync over Wi-fi for synchronisation.
Perhaps you are right Acer, since I was not able to fully test it with your specs.
I have a company cable network LAN, and a wireless adapter on the laptop which is free. But unfortunatelly, I was not able to set up internet sharing of the LAN, since it goes over a Network Bridge. Anyone now how this could be enabled?

Dude thanx i have a laptop and i have made an ad-hoc network between my pc and the Prophet, also i have shared my dialup connection but it is not working, if possible would you please explain step by step settings?

yes i am using XP home Edition and my laptop is Averatec 3200 series
Just go to properties on your dial up internet sharing and set share this connection. i thinks thats about it. i've not use it for a long time, but if I remember correctly that's about it. you have to share it with your WI-FI adapter of course.
Some WI-Fi card can configure this automacticly. Like several I seen. You can set it as a router, and you're good to go.

Hi lover. Sorry, I thought Munyuk81's response was enough.
Anyway, on Windows XP, open Network Connections, right-click on your dial-up/ADSL connection, selet Properties.
Open the Advanced tab, you should have an Internet Connection SHaring section. Enable "Allow other users to connect etc, etc...". Select the wireless network adapter if given the option. Click YES if asked to change the IP.
Next create a wi-fi network using the XP utlities or your card's utilities. Don't touch the IP address of the wi-fi card.
Next on your Prophet, enable Wi-Fi and it should discover the network by itself. If you set a key in the step above, it will ask you to enter it.

Do you know how i can share my Lan internet which goes over a Network Bridge? WHen I removed the Lan from the Network Bridge, I could see the options for ICS, but there was no internet to share, as the connection was lost. Adding it back to the network bridge restores the internet connection, but removes the option for sharing it with the other (wifi) card...
Anyone?
i haven't tried it myself, but thinking logically, when you add a connection to a bridge, it loses its individual attributes. You have to check the properties of the bridge, and check if there are ICS options there, however I do not think that XP allows that, but you can try.

what is your settings in

Long time listner....first time poster.
I've been using WMWIFI for home internet access now for a while. My laptop and desktop have no problems finding my mogul as an access point.
I just purchased a Playstation3 (mostly for the bluray). It has a wireless card built in to access some of Sony's online stuff.
My problem is that the PS3 cannot find my mogul as an access point. Any guesses? I've searched to earth's end, however, it doesn't seem there are many people trying to do what I am...and unfortunately I can't exactly call sprint and ask them.

The psp can connect to an Ad-Hoc network (at least the last time I tried), don't know about the others. I just know under network settings on the psp you have to change it to ad-hoc mode.

If your desktop or laptop has a wireless / wired port, simply share the internet conenction from your phone to your PC.
plug in a wire from the ps3 to the PC
highlight the wireless icon, and the wired icon in your network manager and right click and hit bridge network connections.
it will work after that.

If you have a wireless router,that should make it all work. Set your mogul to connect to the wireless router and set the router to be 192.168.0.2 instead of its default. Now setup your devices with a static IP,on the same subnet and set the default gateway to be 192.168.0.1 (your moguls ip). In the earlier versions,this just works as is.
In the latest version,you will need to set some other settings on the phone as well. Go into your phones wifi settings and set the wifi adapter to 192.168.0.1 (earlier versions of wmwifirouter set this as the default,but the newer one is more flexible,so you need to specify this) Now,connect your wifi to your routers network. Next launch wmwifirouter. Clear the check mark next to dhcp allocator and adhoc netoworking. Network block should be set to the 192.168.0.x subnet. The router wont actually be used as a router,just as a network access point. Your mogul is actually the router. The clients are setup as before,with static IPs with a default gateway of 192.168.0.1.
This is how I connect my computer to the internet. I expect that it should work with any device that can be set with a static IP.

In case anyone asks, I did'nt need anything except my phone and 360. No router, or computer. Just fired up my wifi and entered the settings in my 360. It didn't see it, but it allowed me to edit my settings. I don't know about the PS3, wouldnt mind having one though. :..(

Mine works
What I did was what the other guy said with bridging the connection. once you connect your mogul to the computer and get online through the pc, connect an ethernet cable from your pc to the wifi routers main plug.
go to network connections
highlight your internet connection for the mogul and the one for the ethernet ( on my pc it is defaulted as internet connection 11 for the mogul and 12 for my NIC card) right click the highlighted connections and click bridge. connect the ps3 to one of the available hub slots and your ps3 should connect n/p.
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A ROUTER...
you must purchase a cross over cable to get an internet connection directly from your pc to your ps3. the method is the exact same as above except no router.
ive had my cable shut off for a few months now and have been tethering my 6800 to my laptop and PC for internet access. recently, a buddy of mine needed to download a large app on his iphone which required being connected to a wireless network. my router was still on for networking purposes but did not have an internet connection. then i discovered an incredibly simple way to use the data connection from my phone as an internet line for my modem, effectively adding internet access to my wireless router and allowing his iphone, my laptop, my ps3, and PC, all to connect to the internet. i thought this maybe useful for others, so here's how to do it:
Requirements:
XV6800 (or any WinMo phone) with tethering enabled
PC/Laptop w/ LAN connection
1) Create a Dial-up connection for your phone, if you haven't already.
2) Connect to DUN
3) Open Control Panel --> Network Connections
4) Right-click your DUN and select Properties
5) On the 'General' tab, highlight your modem and click Configure, then set the Maximum Speed to 921600 and click OK (not required, seemed to increase speeds though)
6) On the 'Advanced' tab (XP) or 'Sharing' tab (Vista), enable the checkbox for 'Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet Connection' and click OK
7) Check the Status of your Local Area Connection. The IP address should now be 192.168.0.1
8) On your Wireless Router, move the LAN cable from its input jack into the 'Internet' jack.
9) You should see the internet activity light on your router light up and you are good to go!
NOTE: after sharing the DUN connection with your LAN, the IP settings for the LAN connection are set to a static IP of 192.168.0.1. You will have to change the IP settings back to 'Obtain IP address automatically' in order to have your LAN connection working properly again.

I've been using WMwifirouter as well. Have it on our Titan (xv6800) which my niece uses now. Had it on my HTC Touch Pro. And now I have it on my HTC Touch Pro 2.
I like the original posters idea alot too incase you didn't want to fork out $30 for the latest wmwifirouter software.
ah but as also indicated the last free versions work fine and do the same thing. I love using it on the go in my vehicle. My wife surfs the net while I drive on long trips.
If you want to set up a remote desktop from your HD2 to your laptop through WiFi, using NO ROUTER and NO INTERNET connection, you easily can. What will you use it for and why? It is up to you.. but it can come in handy considering this can be done anywhere as long as you have your laptop and your HD2 with you. This is how:
-Download 'Connectify' here and install it on your laptop
-connectify1.png: 1) The name of the WiFi-connetion that you will connect to from your phone2) Password (not needed, but if you choose none, anyone with a WiFi device can connect to your WiFi 3) Select your Wireless Network Connection4) Start the WiFi router (after this, connect to the WiFi network on your HD2!)
-connectify2.png: 5) and 6) Open your 'Network and Sharing Center' by clicking the link the image shows
-connectify3.png: Follow 7)
-connectify4.png: Follow 8)
-connectify5.png: 9) Write down this number
-RemoteDesktop1.jpg: You have connected to your new Wireless network on the HD2
-RemoteDesktop2.jpg: Open 'Remote Desktop' on your HD2 in [START] -> [Tools] -> [Remote Desktop], in the first field, fill in the 'IP'-address that you found in step 9) in 'connectify5.png'. In the second and third field, fill in the username and password for your laptop (the user-account you use to login to windows)
-RemoteDesktop3.jpg: Settings for your remote desktop.. choose as you please
--> Press 'Connect' and you're good to go!
REMEMBER THAT THIS WILL ONLY WORK WHEN YOU'RE IN THE WiFi RANGE OF YOUR COMPUTER!

Ok so first I'm presuming you have a wireless network, dont no if it can be done without one (correct me if im wrong folks) so im on xp so might be different on 7 but nearly the same i guess
so have your pc and you're phone both running from the wifi
then on your pc go to my computer, right click and open properties, you wanna be on system properties by now and look for Remote, you wanna allow remote assistance and allows users to connect remotely,
then fire up RD on your HD2, where it says computer thats where the ip of the oc goes, you can look it up by clicking the network icon in the desktop of the pc, should be something like 192.168.x.x type that in you're phone (computer section in remote desktop)
the username is the same username as your pc is called or youre account
then click connect have a go if you need more help just reply mate

I don't have a wireless network. I have a laptop with WiFi set to 'ON', and my HD2's WiFi set to 'ON'.. not router or anything like that.
I'm also using a Mobile Internet for my internet, so that connection comes up in my network and sharing centre as connected, and the IP is not standard like 192.168.0.x..
You'd think it would be possible to just connect the bastards like good old bluetooth.. well, wish at least.
I have allowed remote desktop in the settings of my laptop.
I believe the main issue here is setting up a WiFi network that I can connect to from my phone /:

Ok gothcya, then all you should have to do is have your laptop connected to the net, open Remote desktop on your phone and where it says computer type in your ip address from your laptop, type your username which should match the same as the laptop, and you may need a password on you're win 7 account might not though,
You're ip address can be found here http://www.whatsmyip.org/ on this site it will tell you you're IP address that's what goes in the computer bit in remote desktop mobile on your phone,
I dont think you will be able to do it over wifi as you're not got the laptop on a wireless network, so it will use your gprs data

It worked (using GPRS).. too bad I can't do it with WiFi though (direct WiFi to my laptop). Strange though.. if I can share internet with my HD2 by making it a router, it should be possible with the laptop:
Mobile Broadband from laptop -> Laptop as WiFi router -> WiFi on HD2 now with internet -> HD2 on WiFi shared by laptop -> Remote desktop of laptop ):

I haven't read through all of the post but there is a better way than gprs. If your laptop's wifi adaptor supports ad-hoc mode (tbh it should. i don't know of an adapter that doesn't) it will be possible to set the laptop up as the network wifi server and then connect the phone to it via wifi. Then, all you'll need to do is right click "computer" on the laptop then click "advanced system settings" and then "remote". Finally click "allow connection from any computer running remote desktop". Next, in the start search box look for "command prompt" and when it appears click it (you may need to run it in administrator mode). Run ip config and look for the ip address assigned to "Wireless LAN adapter wireless network connection".
This is where we move to the phone. Connect the phone to the ad-hoc network you made on the laptop and run remote desktop on the phone. Give the ip you just obtained from ipconfig and give it your username and password, hit connect and jobs done.
I'm not gonna tell you how to setup the ad-hoc network coz i think you need to do some research on google in order to learn the value of how good it is (plus i'm watching the post race from the Canadian F1 GP).

I'm not gonna tell you how to setup the ad-hoc network coz i think you need to do some research on google in order to learn the value of how good it is (plus i'm watching the post race from the Canadian F1 GP).

Nothing more than a front end for what is already in windows. It looks like it basically does what i was instructing you to do by hand. I won't have used it but i know what i'm doing and i have a wifi/wired domain network so my phone is actually joined to the server and the server treats it like a client. The same as it would the pc so i can use the internal dns to find any machine connected and not have to worry about the ip's (but i do know them all off of the top of my head)

If your laptop's wifi adaptor supports ad-hoc mode (tbh it should. i don't know of an adapter that doesn't) it will be possible to set the laptop up as the network wifi server and then connect the phone to it via wifi. hehe... was watching F1 as well..!! I did try the ad-hoc option but I couldn't get it to use my existing Wifi connection for some reason... what they do now, is only connecting to computers with wifi connection together... I didn't spend so much time with this to be honnest, but the other option I mentioned before is a lot easier for everybody...
ok - i have gone through about 6 roms now and im constantly getting the same story.
i primarily use CM based roms cuz those are the only ones that seem to connect to ad-hoc networks shared from my computer. when i use CM7 roms the internet constantly connects and disconnects and when i use CM6 roms the phone says im connected but the PC doesnt see any present connections.. not even with connectify or the other hotspot programs seem to help
its strange cuz i also have an aria with a CM6 rom which connects flawlessly but the HD2 cant even be seen on the network.
PLEASE can anyone help me out with this problem? I've been awake for the past 2 days trying to fix this problem from all sorts of angles and i still cant connect to an ad-hoc wifi
i just tried connectify but the problem is the same, it says im connected but still there is no data coming from the computer. my MAC address appears fine so i have no idea what is causing the problem
not even changing the channels, editing wpa_supplicant, using static IP or DHCP... nothing helps..
just realized that if i try to connect while other devices like my aria are currently connected, the other devices get disconnected from the network.. no idea whats causing that but could use some insight
There is another longer thread with someone having the same or at least very similar problems. All non-Sense builds he's tried have wifi "connecting", but not actually transferring any data. When he loads up a Sense build, it all works fine. I'd look it up, but search unavailable for "10 minutes". I did comment on it though.
You wrote you try to setup an ad-hoc WiFi connection. This means you connect two devices together, not to a network (if you want to use your laptop as Internet bridge it's a more complex config).
You're talking about DHCP in ad-hoc connection... Do you setup a DHCP server on your computer (is this even possible)?
You said when you have other devices connected... this is not ad-hoc.
I think you try to connect the wrong way, sorry if I misunderstood but you have to provide more info for me to help.
As general advice:
Check for your ROM thread as initially their was a problem with all devices (with Android on HD2) having the same MAC (has been solved)
Start first to try to connect to a "normal" WiFi network
Make sur of the network config (try with basic b/g instead of n, n+...)
First step could be to setup a basic b/g network with DHCP enable, SSID broadcast, no security (wep,...): the kind of network you have when you take your access point out of the box.
No other advice... hope this will help.
Check the IP you have on your phone when connected. If it's kind of 169.xxx this can't work. It's auto IP from the device itself.
thanks for the response mate. Unfortunately, there are not many unsecured "routed" wifi connections available where i am to test - thats why i have to rely on the laptop to feed internet to my phones through an adhoc network.
let me explain what im doing:
im currently trying to use internet sharing from my laptop on my phones - i have 2 android phones, an aria and an HD2 - both of which connect to the internet through an ad-hoc wifi connection to the the laptop which has LAN internet connection.
the only way to connect is by issuing each device a static IP
eg. laptop - 192.168.0.1,
aria - 192.168.0.3,
HD2 - 192. 168.0.2
whenever i try to use DHCP i get "obtaining IP address" from the phones until it auto-disconnects.
using a static IP-Config, the aria connects and browses effortlessly. But the HD2 wont. Just says "connected" but the pc says "waiting for peers to connect" and doesnt feed any data to the HD2. Additionally, i found out that if the aria is already connected while attempting to connect the HD2, the aria gets kicked from the net..
if it helps, my rom is CMN V_2.0.. its the only one that gets me "connected", so to speak..
Then I will not be very helpful as I seldom use ad-hoc and bridge connection.
I connect my HD2 to my home network only (works in WEP or WPA anyway).
Just what I know:
1/ for ad-hoc you can't use DHCP (or you may have to activate a server on your laptop, this will add complexity to your setup)
2/ ad-hoc is only between 2 devices (1 laptop and 1 phone for ex), it could explain that when you connect the HD2 the other one is "kicked out".
3/ On your laptop you have to bridge your connections. Anyway, if with another device you can connect and broose, then your laptop setup has to be ok.
4/ if you're connected you may find a good IP in the HD2 (anyway if you use fix IP it has to be ok).
5/ to connect to a server you need a DNS. this is maybe what is missing. Usually when you connect to an access point you use the "AP IP". Not sure it can work here.
Try to manually put the DNS address in your HD2.
Just to make one test:
a/ from your laptop "ping" an Internet server (xda for ex).
--> Start menu, type "cmd", in the cmd windows type "ping server_name"
b/ from your HD2 try to connect with the IP instead of the server name.
This is the puprose of a DNS, to give your device the IP of a server.
NB: to find the DNS server used by your laptop:
In cmd type "ipconfig /all" it will give some info, you may find your DNS in it.
Sorry, no other idea...
I read again what you write and I think you can forget my previous post.
The answer from your laptop is different with the two phones.
I don't think it's a DNS problem.
Sorry, I will be useless! Hope someone with the same network config will help.
My home network is totally different.
If it's specific to your rom you can try to check in your ROM's post if other have the same problem. If no, try to ask there is someone has the same connection setup.
Edit: check this link, it seems that many people with non-sense build has problem with WiFi (I use sense build, always):

i would use a sense build but it seems all of them take up quite a lot of space from internal storage - im always left with 500-400Megs from the 1GB of space
its just odd because when i had a G1 (before i got my HD2) it connected effortlessly as well.. even more so, both aria and g1 could be connected to my laptop's adhoc simultaneously
OOOOHHH!!! i just rememberd hearing something about internet pass-through, but im not sure how ti works.. i will give it a try
