solved how to wirelessly connect to a wired network:)

ok here's the problem
you want to connect to a wired network or even simply a single pc connecting to the net on a broadband or dialup connection.
if there was a wireless router then it wouldnt be a problem. your pda would connect to the wireless network and the wireless router would give your pda an address and everything would work.
without the wireless router you don't get allocated an ip address.
well problem solved www.nat32.com has a program called nat32e which you can get a demo version of (works for an hour before needing to be restarted)
essentially this is a nat router which runs on any pc running windows
you need a wireless card in addition to its ethernet connection to the net.
I did this with 2 wireless cards so in theory it could be used to extend the effective range of an existing wireless network too
installation is simple but basically you give the wireless card i used a belkin usb 54g dongle type on channel 6 a fixed address and tell it to connect to an adhoc network called "whatever"
you add a network packet driver, nat32 holds your hand installing this,
then the pc needs a reboot.
first time you run nat32 it runs through the configuration you tell it what card connects to the internet and which card connects to your private net
(that is your adhoc wireless network) it sets things up
scan for a network on your pda tell it to look for adhoc networks connect to "whatever" and tell it when it asks, it connects to work.
you should then have wireless access to the net.
if your doing this with two wireless cards make sure you have seperate channels set up for your infrastructure network and your adhoc network.
the belkin 54g usb wireless dongle costs about 25 from staples or 30 from pc world (both are local for me)
the host pc will run fine without any problems with nat32 running or not
no proxys need configuring a registered verion of nat32 costs from
$25 but this gets you registered for just one pc and really you want it so you can roam with a usb wireless card in your pocket and your pda.
I think adhoc wireless networking works for up to 30 wireless points.
i did it with a pda, mdaIII and a laptop.
basically like ics but with less problems
I think you can do this with bluetooth as well but that really isn't fun

Think you may be on the trail of a problem that I am stuck on at the moment . I have the XDA11i and want to connect it via blue tooth to a blue tooth modem connected in turn to to a BT wall socket ( in that way I can surf for 1p per min !!!) no matter what I seem to do whilst the PDA will recognise the Modem as a serial modem ( and form a secure link ) it wont talk to it and get it to dial up . Zoom ( Hayes ) are wondering if 02 have disabled the element in blue tooth that lets this work ? Any thoughts . with the above I dont need to lug my lap top round with me .

Using your 6800 as a Modem for your Wireless Router

ive had my cable shut off for a few months now and have been tethering my 6800 to my laptop and PC for internet access. recently, a buddy of mine needed to download a large app on his iphone which required being connected to a wireless network. my router was still on for networking purposes but did not have an internet connection. then i discovered an incredibly simple way to use the data connection from my phone as an internet line for my modem, effectively adding internet access to my wireless router and allowing his iphone, my laptop, my ps3, and PC, all to connect to the internet. i thought this maybe useful for others, so here's how to do it:
Requirements:
XV6800 (or any WinMo phone) with tethering enabled
PC/Laptop w/ LAN connection
1) Create a Dial-up connection for your phone, if you haven't already.
2) Connect to DUN
3) Open Control Panel --> Network Connections
4) Right-click your DUN and select Properties
5) On the 'General' tab, highlight your modem and click Configure, then set the Maximum Speed to 921600 and click OK (not required, seemed to increase speeds though)
6) On the 'Advanced' tab (XP) or 'Sharing' tab (Vista), enable the checkbox for 'Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet Connection' and click OK
7) Check the Status of your Local Area Connection. The IP address should now be 192.168.0.1
8) On your Wireless Router, move the LAN cable from its input jack into the 'Internet' jack.
9) You should see the internet activity light on your router light up and you are good to go!
NOTE: after sharing the DUN connection with your LAN, the IP settings for the LAN connection are set to a static IP of 192.168.0.1. You will have to change the IP settings back to 'Obtain IP address automatically' in order to have your LAN connection working properly again.

You can also get WMWifiRouter. It will uses the phones wifi to create an ad-hoc network and can tether via USB too. Version 0.89 is cooked into a few roms as it was one of the last free versions.
I have a Cradlepoint CTR-350 that I have been using so that I can connect with my PS3 and not need to set up connection sharing on my PC.

I've been using WMwifirouter as well. Have it on our Titan (xv6800) which my niece uses now. Had it on my HTC Touch Pro. And now I have it on my HTC Touch Pro 2.
I like the original posters idea alot too incase you didn't want to fork out $30 for the latest wmwifirouter software.

ah but as also indicated the last free versions work fine and do the same thing. I love using it on the go in my vehicle. My wife surfs the net while I drive on long trips.

Xbox Live Moderate NAT on Hotspot/Tether

Is there a clear tutorial on setting the NAT to open on Xbox Live? I'm tethering off my Verizon 4G LTE phone.

I was never able to find one that was complete... through trial and error I found a solid usb method. Now my only problem is this POS LG Revolution with no man support or ROMs. Seems I have to tether through EasyTether to maintain a solid connection (anyone know why?) otherwise it poops out after a couple minutes randomly which sucks because I've had my best tether 4g speeds through 3 rarely talked about apps, Tether Pop-Up and Auto-Usb Tether and SVTP no idea why but they kick the crap out of PDANet, Clockwork Tether, EasyTether. With the auto enablers / widgets I get 18-40DN / 6-12UP MB/S on speedtest.net the only way my tethering speed came close to matching my true phone 4g speeds the most Ive ever seen from the others was 7mbs dn 3up thats with easytether. So first find a tethering method that works the fastest with a solid connection (you need it otherwise constant disconnects and probation waiting for matches).
Now share your connection via pc/mac network card/ethernet cable to a Router (it must support an NZB Server)'s internet port. Set your xbox up to be a set IP address mines 192.168.1.4. leave everything else blank except dns = google for phone, pc and xbox network settings. Then login to your router generally under WLAN Setup you'll find "Default DMZ Server" enter your Xbox IP address in fields. Check to make sure MTU Size is 1500 and NAT Filitering "Open". I disable SIP ALG too if optional. Check to make sure your connection from PC is being shared and used as gateway ect in your main status and thats it. Connect to router via wireless or ethernet (faster). DMZ basically creates a port server for the xbox-router any port the xbox wants open nzb opens it (was what I understood). If your still not getting your xbox to say Open NAT make sure ips match router DMZ and xbox (dhcp crap messes it up sometimes), start opening ports on the router, pc and android for xbox you can get list of ports for COD via google and portforward on android and complete firewall bypass on pc can help too. You can achieve OPEN by simply getting all ports necessary but DMZ method much easier. As far as I know you need a DMZ capable Router you cannot WiFi tether to xbox and get open or any other way without a router to my knowledge.

When you're using this kind of a method, your phone provider is the NAT. You can't really get around it because they control it. Not you.
However many phone providers will let you pay extra for a public IP address and then you'll have an open NAT.

I've tried just about every possible method to grt open NAT through my phone with the wifi tether app.. PC has wireless adapter connected to my phone.. Etherney cable from LAN port to the routers modem plug.. Ethernet cable from router to ps3.. I can't login to my router to change any of the settings for some reason.. I have a Netgear and my web browser keeps saying it can't find the page..

Tether to Router?

So I can use my standard USB cable and tether to the laptop and have net connection on lappy. Same with desktop. USB tether works just the same as wifi tether. What about getting a micro USB to RJ45 (ethernet) cable and tethering to the internet in jack on my router. Would that put the net signal on the router like a modem would?

Or you could get a wireless adapter for your Desktop. That's what I did. Now I can stream Amazon Prime on my Xbox 360, and PC game at the same time.This is what I have and works like a charm.

Oh my desktop is already wireless enabled, that's not an issue... Been running the house off the phones for a couple years... Just gave up a little bit when I got rid of cable interet. Whole house networking to other computers in the house, had to plug the wireless printer back into the desktop, it's no longer a network printer, etc.... was just toying with the idea and wondering if it would work is all.
Actually, in looking at the micro usb - rj45 adapters, I don't think it will work. Those are actually ethernet adapters, like adding a network card to a slot on a pc. Made for taking a net signal FROM a network, not sending one TO it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you just get a compatible wireless dongle (Something you would use for sniffing/injecting packets) and use it as an access point so you can broadcast the signal throughout the house?
Another thing you can do is pick up a router that you can install Tomato or DD-WRT on and use it as a wireless client bridge. It would connect to your phone, and again, broadcast that signal through the house.

Correct. Assuming the phone would even operate in this manner (I've never tried but sounds like a great idea!), you'd need a router that is capable of operating in bridged mode/wireless bridge/access point mode (may be labeled as either of them). You'd then have to configure the router to said bridged mode. An easier route (and possibly more expensive) would be to purchase just an access point.

I may have an old WAP in my junk closet. A router that can bridge may work but first thing I think I would need is a router or WAP that has a USB connection on it.... I'm looking to plug the phone into the router to provide the internet signal instead of a cable/dsl modem, creating a typical LAN ... I can still use the LAN in-house sans the net connection. Just a pain to disconnect from one network (phone hotspot) and connect to another (netless LAN) for file transfers network printing etc ...

You shouldn't need to physically connect your phone to the router at all. Depending on what router you get, it should be able to pick up the wireless signal from your phone's hotspot and rebroadcast it as its own network.
Edit: And honestly, I'm not sure connecting the phone via usb to the router would even share the connection. That router doesn't have the drivers needed for that to work.

To the OP, off topic question but what did you have to do to activate wi fi tether? your sig, tells me that your on stock and can still do it, yes? thanks!

Side note, it's been awhile but when I moved into my apartment I had no internet for a few days.
I did the USB wired tether to a laptop, then the laptop I think I enabled ICS/internet connection sharing and then connected with rj45 to a router, and it shared that as the WAN connection.

What part of my sig tells you I am on stock?

I've done both these things. I've taken my cell and flashed a router with dd-wrt and set it up as a repeater bridge but that means that only the computers near that router gets internet, unless your house is wired for ethernet (or using wireless). My current setup is having the phone tethered to a computer running Zentyal linux. This is a cool distro that can replace a 2008 Small business server in a work environment but it does the trick for my router at home. I had it running on an old P4 and recently graduated to a Zotac Zbox Mini ID41 which is tucked away behind my TV. I set up the computer to hand out dhcp and be the router and gateway. When i plug in my cell in tethering mode, zentyal recognizes it and i set that USB device as external WAN. It usually takes some getting used to and about a minute to normalize after the phone is unplugged and taken on the road. This has worked for me so far but when i'm at work, no internet at home. I'm currently attempting to talk my workplace into letting me subsidize a Verizon Jetpack i can leave home which will do the same job.
As a side note, i live in rural WI and we only have Satellite internet as a choice, which really stinks as both carriers have a bandwidth cap which we were constantly hitting two weeks into the billing cycle. They then throttle you down to less than a meg until your billing cycle renews.

We RV all summer most years and I use WiFiRanger gear to network our 5th wheel. That way we can grab a WiFi AP if one is available and the credentials are known or I HotSpot my phone and the Router grabs the phone's WiFi AP and we are good to go.
If you are stationary and only intend to use the phone's HotSpot as a WiFi AP then WiFiRanger's GO2 should do the trick. They are currently working on a firmware upgrade that will allow some great bandwidth monitoring and device usage controls. Their price is comparable to most full featured routers being offered but not cheap.
I am a satisfied user and Beta tester of their equipment, not an employee or representative. We use several of their offerings to maximize our capabilities on the road.

I've searched everywhere online, and it seems that the only way to do this is to remove the ethernet cable from either the router/switch/ATV.
can anyone think of any ideas to get around this? it probably won't work, but I'm downloading different network manager apps in the hopes that it would allow me to just this. I have a feeling that this won't work, but it's worth a shot.

why do you wan't to use wireless connection over wired? do u have tried to also connect to wifi while connected wired?
if it's because app only use wifi and you are rooted and have xposed installed u might use the fake wifi module

The best connection is always the connection that gets used. A wifi connection is not as stable of as powerful as an ethernet connection and thats why computers always use the ethernet connection over the wifi connection. If you wanna use wifi, disconnect the ethernet cable. Its the same with mobile devices, if you have your mobile data on and wifi on, it will more than likely pick the wifi connection, cause wifi is usually better than mobile data. My mobile data never ever kicks on over my wifi connection.

As others have said, wired is preferred over wireless for multitude of reasons. But, if you do want to use Wifi when you have an ethernet cable hooked into FTV, you can use this from adb shell:
To bring down your wired network card: busybox ifconfig eth0 down
To bring back up: busybox ifconfig eth0 up
Once you bring down your wired connection, you should be able to navigate to your wireless settings on FTV and go wifi without physically disconnecting your wired cable.
This will not persist across reboots. You will need to include appropriate code in your startup script to make that happen.

I agree, a wired connection is without a doubt better and preferable. However, the building I live in only offers a free wifi connection that is installed throughout the building. I'll be looking to see if I can get my own internet connection soon.
When I have the AFTV connected through ethernet, and I want to SSH, or ADB into the AFTV from my computer, I cannot for some reason. I figured it would work since the wifi and wired connections are technically the same network, right? I also can't use any remote apps from my phone since the phone is on wireless.
I usually disconnect the ethernet cord, and create a wifi connection from my macbook, or tether my connection from my phone and connect my laptop and ATV to that network. I'm just looking for a way to be able to do all of this without having to get up and take out the ethernet cord everytime. It's not that I'm lazy, I just have this external fixation on my leg from an injury.

I used the xfinity app to stream cable on my aftv... I got tired of buffering so switches to ethernet.. The app thinks im out of my wireless network... Can we spoof wifi on this like some of the old apps for jailbroken iphones or in xposed? . I too want to trick my box into thinking ethernet is wifi so xfinity wont think im not on my network...

so let me see if i have this right:
1) you want AFTV to use wireless for internet
2) you want AFTV to use wired for administration/etc
if so --- setup wireless as usual, let it dhcp and do its thing....and setup your WIRED manually leaving the default gateway blank or unconfigured. This will force all traffic bound for hosts not available via wired interface to the WLAN (and the internet).
since the AFTV and your laptop/etc are wired and on the same subnet, they don't need to be routed to communicate and they will work fine. Any other traffic need to be routed, and the only outbound route your AFTV will know is via the wireless interface.
for example:
AFTV wireless: 192.168.0.10, gateway 192.168.0.1 (or whatever dhcp gives you)
AFTV ethernet: 10.10.10.1 gateway (blank)
Laptop wireless: 192.168.0.11, gateway 192.168.0.1 (or whatever dhcp gives you)
laptop ethernet: 10.10.10.2 gateway (blank)
you can then use the 10.10.10.x addresses via ethernet to communicate via local ethernet without disturbing the default internet route and internet access.

I can't ssh/adb/etc without taking the ethernet cord out and connecting the AFTV and laptop to the same wireless network. I was hoping for a way to shut down the ethernet connection, so I can connect over wifi without taking out the ethernet cord. The AFTV won't let you connect to a wireless network if the ethernet cord is plugged in and connected.
I actually figured out a way to do what I need without taking out the ethernet cord.
What I do is:
1) SETTINGS (not the one that came with the AFTV, it's a settings.apk I installed)
2) under WIRELESS & NETWORKS click 'More...'
3) TETHERING & PORTABLE HOTSPOT
4) CONFIGURE WI-FI HOTSPOT
5) activate the hotspot and connect to that network from the laptop

just gave that a try. now I have two methods to achieve what I looking to do. appreciate it!
