The Legends! - EVO 4G General

As the life expectancy of the Evo winds down, Dev work is still going strong! Which brings me to ask, over the course of the life of the Evo (3 Years since release date is getting closer), what are the most epic, legendary ROMS that this phone has enjoyed??
Limit this to the very best of the very best.
For me, there are a few that definitely need to be mentioned.
The Koni Elite Series (I miss Koni around here)
Vaelpak's original ROMs
MikGFoyo and Mik 3G Aamikam
WarmZ Myn - Where did THAT guy go?
MIUI, before ICS/JB was huge. (Did MIUI for the Evo die?)
And now, I'd have to throw Jellybread in there by Kendall. It's right up there

I always enjoyed MikG ROM's whenever I was running a Sense ROM on my OG EVO. For AOSP, Deck's Reloaded
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much

Definitely Aamikam and Tommy Tomatoes roms. Those are the 2 most helpful and knowledgable guys i know and as far as legends go,they're definitely in the top of that league, along with Dropzero,Outerdepth and Gruesomewolf.

Agreed, totally, but instead of listing Devs, I'm guilty also, lets just list specific ROMs (with Devs' credited, ofc). That's more of what I was looking for, I'll update my OP, too.

I nominate
SavagedZen (Lithid's gotta make the list)
EViO (Calkulin? Come on!)
Synergy (myn's, not the other one)
Deck's 1.3d
Some development efforts spanned multiple versions of android or were very closely related some other way, so you could just say
MikFroyo/MikG
CM6/7
Warm 2.2/Warm Z/Synergy
Deck's 1.3d/Reloaded
..etc
Evervolv anyone?
I suppose Virus needs to be in there somewhere.
And I think Kendall, while honored, might agree it is a *little* early to include JellyBread? Not trying to disrespect, I totally support the project, just trying to put it in the perspective of all-time Evo history.

1. Salvagemod
1. Decks Reloaded
1. Myn Warm 2.1
1. Calkulin Evio
1. konikub elite (that rom alone made 5 of my friends root their phone)
1. Tommy Tomatoes classic
- i had 6 favorites of all time

Ok here is my list of tabs.
1. merge rls 2 - aosp and sense 3.0 together I still run it.
2. Energy sense 3.5 great solid rom only issue I ever had was SMS 160 length
3. Gb miui 2-24 dual signal bars like the old cupcake, call and SMS filters (dnd), extremely customization of looks, oh and most of all the ugly ios style launcher
4. As always evervolv without we most likely would not had ics or jb
5. Express X fully enabled rotation ( launcher and lock screen)
6. Royal sacs liquid rom even though it is froyo was still a very unique launcher ported from acer
7. Last but not least is baked black bean yes it is newish but I love it

Synergy for my first 3.5 sense rom, preludedrew for the first port of ics on my birthday Nov 27, 2011, swagster for my first 1.0 sense rom. Jamieg71 for my fast Reloaded rom. And dropzeroc for my first 3.0 sense. But it has been a great experience for all other roms from everyone else.

Wow has it already been that long since ICS came out?
Swagstr doesn't quite make my list, but I guess a lot of people ran his ROMs for awhile there.
A legendary ROM would actually be "Sprint Lovers" even though its only claim to fame was more colorful statusbar icons - a lot of new flashers used it because it was suggested as a good starter ROM in a rooting guide by the famous xHausx.
Oh and which Synergy are you talking about? myn's? That was sense 2.1 with a couple Sense 3.0 features glommed on (like the ring lockscreen).

Ok,the best roms go to......
Aamikams Sense 2.1/3.0 Rom
eVoKings Unleashed/Hateslinger Roms
Virus Roms
Outerdepths Express Rom
Konikubs ELITE Rom

Myns 2.1 and his 3.5. Swagster was great when you first root your phone and it was on Rom Manager.

Oh yeah, I know what you mean, yeah, myn had nothing to do with the 3.5 version, "Warm two point three" I believe it was called. Someone from "Team Synergy" tossed us a bone with a well-themed port of the same runnymede Sense 3.5 ROM base everyone else used, but the real "Warm two point three" by myn was only for the 3D.
It's a testament to the legendary status of myn that so many people would try out that ROM based on name recognition alone when it was not functionally different from RCMix3D, Energy, Prime XL, and all those other Sense 3.5 ROMs with the same 160 character SMS split issue and no 4G.

Ahh, yeah, how could I forget CM7, especially when the nightlies were coming out.

I still miss MIUI on the Evo. I remember when I first saw it,it was just so much better than anything out there and such an amazing rom. It's sad that it never recovered after ICS.
Mik's rooms will always have a spot right up there too.

Still have the last great GB MIUI ROM in my Dev--Host

Most definitely the Classic. Also Decks roms and reloaded of course. Synergy is one of epic ones that blew people away at the time. These are all still amazing roms and definitely legends for the OG EVO along with several others. Myn's roms , virus, mik roms too many to list for this amazing device.

Just put a pure AOSP rom on my hero

K I was bored and decided to put gingerbread on my hero to see what it was like since we don't got it on the epic, and instead I found a "pure aosp" rom that the developer built from the ground up using straight google code...and it runs and looks beautiful and only has stock apps+spare parts and ran snappy on my hero runnin at 528mhz (I CBA to find an ovrclocked kernel a the time)
So I was wondering..........how hard would it b to build a pure aosp rom? Not cm...just pure aosp?

It would be extremely easy to build a pure AOSP ROM for the Epic 4G.
Now, if you wanted it to work or even install, I couldn't tell you the answer.
The difficult part is reverse engineering the drivers that samsung hasn't given source for. That's what has taken them so long to port CyanogenMod. However, once they have most of the work done, it will be much easier to attempt a pure AOSP rom.
I should've mentioned it was apure 2.2 build...I didn't bother with gb because I realized I'm not getting it anytime soon so I didn't wanna tease myself...but now I'm jealous of straight up pure 2.2
The hero only had 2.1 drivers to work with and the dev built it, so shouldn't it be feasible with the epic 2.1 drivers/sauce given a devoted dev?

I'm pretty sure there's a ROM that is a pure AOSP...I want to say the Truly Epic ROM but I'm not sure...(ill edit the post for confirmation). Also, just put a request for a FroYo theme in the themes & apps section to see if you can get something at least similar

They did it, but it took a while. The CM people are giving us a start towards AOSP, but it will take a while. The phone has only been out for 5 months.
5months is a long time when it comes to technological innovations....or at least the ones they release to the public.

[Poll] Whats your favorite os and why?

So we have been blessed with android for almost 3 years now. Out of all the different treats Google has cooked up for us which one has been your favorite and why? For me its kind of a hard question to answer straight forward. A few of you may say this question seems irrelevant but I have a feeling some of the answers may surprise you.
Cupcake/doughnut was my first experience and brought us by far the best battery life.
Eclair kind of began to bring some much needed aesthetics to android.
Froyo gave us the glorious flash!!!!
Gingerbread.... still trying to figure out the point of that update, or at least why its a different version name
Honeycomb could have been the ****, but imho was rushed out way to soon.
I really liked eclair on the Droid
wheres the option for windows mobile. haha just kidding
Froyo
I started with Froyo as my first Android OS and I loved it coming from Blackberry. Well since GB came out I figured I would give it a try since i've heard alot of good things about it... I've tried it a couple of times now but in the end I always go back to Froyo (mysense).. I know alot of people say it's heavy and slow but the setup I've got thanks to the Royal team it seems no slower than any GB rom i've tried... I like GB ok, if i do decide to stick with GB as my daily driver it will probably be Royal Ginger I really like what they've done with that one...
I have to say that my favorite variant of Android is 2.3 AOSP. B L A Z I N G fast and really slim. Just gets the job done without all of the fluff and puff that others bring.
iOS is nice. I own an iPod Touch. But for a daily driver i cannot live without my Android.
I switched from blackberry and might switch back if they ever make a powerhouse phone withstand he big form factor....the bold touch that should be out soon might be it....I love android....but I love my bold's keyboard even more
MT4G + Royal MIUI + Faux's BFS LV kernel
Eclair was a HUGE improvement over 1.x. Froyo was a big improvement over Eclair. Gingerbread didn't bring significant improvements over Froyo for me that are worth dumping stable Froyo pure Sense (DHD) for funky Gingerbread Sense ports with problems. I want to be able to record videos. So, I guess it's Froyo for me.
Froyo runs the best on my phone
I like stock Froyo on the Droid Incredible 2
I had installed gingerbread on my myTouch 4G and now I have the G2x, and I must say, I miss gingerbread!
I have faux123's aosp gingerbread, its my daily driver as its fast and bloat free.

CM7 The Only Hope For Epic 4G?

but i mean after gingerbread... then what ? Gingerbread is already pretty old so i mean...
I don't know guys, maybe samsprint will surprise us.

As much a my phone would love some ice cream sandwich, I highly doubt samsprint will officially support it for the epic. While gingerbread was a nice treat (pun intended). I beielve this will be the last official update. But hey hopefully the devs can work some magic...if there are ay left by then!
From cellblock D
Reaction to Official GB will Reveal All
I suspect the reaction to the official gingerbread release will tell us. I suspect we'll see a flurry of the standard players after the GB release, Bonsai (my favorite), ACS, etc. However, they will quickly reach the point where they have done all they can do, (i.e. applied all the currently known tweaks/patches).
After that, it's really CM. CM7 development (based on commits) seems to have slowed a bit after a flurrish at the end of May. If the CM7 team is able to get it stable based on the official GB source, the Epic can then ride the CM train for a while. If that doesn't happen, I expect 1-2 revisions of tweeked ROMs based on GB from each team, particularly Bonsai and ACS and then development on the Epic will be done.
More tasty deserts with CM7.

I agree if we are lucky we may get an ice cream sammich. With CM7 we can get timely upgrades of more tasty deserts like jelly beans, kiwi pudding, lemon meringue pie, etc, etc....
Not even looking at icecream sandwitch, if we get to CM7, we will not just get major updates, but we'll get regular, minor releases as well. Those can provide additional featuers. (I'd personally LOVE to get the granular permissions control thats being added to CM7.) If we don't get to CM7, we can dream about ICS, but in reality, we're unlikely to get features and instead only get ROM tweeks (and kernel modules).
Also we will have continued development and not have development stop because of lack of source code. That is what I hate most about not being on cyanogenmod. With the lawsuit with apple Samsung should seriously consider working more with cyanogenmod and just dump touch wiz all together. In my opinion touch wiz is not all that impressive and serious limits the phone's compatibility.

I believe something of a sort aswell my friend. But the CM7 team will have a fully functional release by the end of the summer. I'm positive. ya im really hopin once 2.3 comes out the CM7 team will get everything on track. i agree with the fact CM7 will more than likely be our last hope after 2.3 comes out, atleast for those who want to stay up to date with an older handset which has great hardware regardless. single core or not, epic has been a dream phone to me, especialy coming from the moment(touch pro 2, touch pro, mogul and ppc 6700 before that. i wont ever go all touch, KB is too important for me). the devs on here are great and keep guys like us loving our phones but i also dont forsee ICS coming to the Epic, even though google made an announcement that android phones will be updated to new software at minimum of 18months AFTER release, although that announcment was made more than 6 months after the epic came out. sucks that this phone hasnt even hit the 1 year mark yet and we are already at EOL even on firmware side. hopefully google puts the pressure on the manufacturers AND service providers for these updates regardless of when they announced that. only time will tell guys but regardless i wont buy a phone without a KB. at this point im so satisfied with my epic i can see myself rockin this bad boy for another 3+ years if need be, does what i want, when i want and has one of the best 5-row KB ive ever used. only thing missin on my EE03 is for impaler to make a keyboard fix for these dropped keys lol i miss my speed demon patch, BIG life saver for me. i type as fast if not at times faster on my epic than i do on a regular PC keyboard =P

Getting Bored with My G2

I've owned my G2 since it's been out, and I have to say that I'm starting to get bored with it. I have it rooted and I've flashed just about every ROM that's been released for it. Sadly, all the recent ROM development is for ICS, and most of those are in alpha/beta stages. I need something new, fresh and is close to 100% bug-free as possible. I've played with most of the Sense based ROMs, MIUI, and CM7 creations, but my primary DD has been CM7.1 Stable.
Just thought I'd share my thoughts here, see if I'm not alone in this, and what others have done to get out of this rut.

My contract won't expire for about a year, and I'll more than likely be leaving TMO as their service is horrible in my new place. That's an issue that really isn't tolerable at all, but my boredom comes from the decline in ROM development for this kick ass phone. Sure, it's an older phone, but it's still a great phone that other phones can't compete with. Also, I tried ICS and I honestly wasn't all that impressed with it. I still enjoyed running Froyo and love Gingerbread, and wish I had the skills/talent to develop updated/enhanced flavors of Sense/AOSP/MIUI based ROMs. There's many to choose out there, but as I said so many of them are in alpha/beta stages with the prevalent "camera not working" bug.
The purpose of this thread was more so to see what ROMs people were using as their DDs, but based on your question I'd be interested to hear what G2 owners have upgraded their phones to as well. I love my G2 and will be sad to part ways with it when that day comes.

I'm getting equally bored. My contract isn't up till next jan but I'm thinking of trading in for an asus padfone. This will also replace my asus transformer. I enjoy the keyboard on the DZ but I just feel there is a drop in gingerbread development and ICS is in need of proper drivers. Maybe things will change when the DHD get official update.

I've been using gb miui for nearly the time I've had this phone (about 6 months). I've played with the HTC one x and galaxy note and without custom roms I don't think they are any smoother in general interface than what I have (overclock to 1.5 helps). However you are right, I've also tried nearly every rom out there and after a few hours or days running an ics rom I always come back to miui because it's bug free and fast.
Development has slowed lately, probably because they've run out of things to improve, but there are a few ics development teams improving their roms on a weekly basis so in a couple of months I'd hope for a near perfect ics version.
Saying that I'll be getting a galaxy note in a few days because I still want something new and different.

ILWT all the way!
I first flashed it in February and have come back to it every time I've flashed another ROM. That's more that can be said of any other ROM I've had.
Supersmooth performance, stable and everything works.
In regards to the phone itself; this is the first phone I've ever had where I'm actually reluctant to get another because I don't want to let it go. I bought my DZ about 14 months ago. I'm not bound to any contract so that is not why I keep it around. I'm guessing it must be true love

Old school or new school?

I am having trouble picking a rom I am happy with. I seem to be torn between a couple sense 1.0 based roms and a couple ICS roms. I like Tommys classic, impatiently waiting for his next release. I also enjoy Swagged out stocks rom. Those are great roms and they are what I am used to and what I know.
But we got all these cool new ICS roms that have all the flashy goodness. I am liking mazda's dark and light and swiperrats MIUI ICS.
Whats everybody else rocking right now? Which of these 4 would you choose and why?

But we got all these cool new ICS roms that have all the flashy goodness. I am liking mazda's dark and light and swiperrats MIUI ICS.
Whats everybody else rocking right now? Which of these 4 would you choose and why?

Gummy worms is by far the best ICS I've used because everything works, and works well including panorama. Personally I've been using Mango Chicken 7 which is windows phone themed and I love it. I'm sticking with it waiting for the major update.
Or instead of those sense 1 roms Mikg is not bad and has a little more options (I like landscape view too)
And gummy rocks my socks too ics wise ;-)
