Hey one guy on HTC Mania forum, found the rattle solution, the video is in Spanish, i hope you understand, if no, the problem is with a small piston in the socket for sim card, with a small piece of plastic for that piston no more rattling :highfive:
To try this, put the sim ejector in the little hole, and then shake, No more rattling :victory:
Here is the source http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=548653 all the credits for Daniel Cañada
And the you tube video :victory:

So... the conclusion is not the camera
Never had any rattling.

thxs to this video i no longer have the rattle issue..i just used a piece of paper and with the scissors i cut a small rectangular shape..i rolled it like a weed and then i put it in front of the small metal thing
This is true for my nexus 4. I put my sim tool in and shook my device and the rattle is gone, hopefully a quick fix can come out of this because that's what's causing my rattle

There's a little bump on the battery cover over the speaker.
I assume this is so if you lay the phone on a flat surface you don't totally muffle the speaker - good idea.
They should have done this on each side of the camera, to protect the camera lens. Ah well, good reason to guy a case I guess.

They should put a speaker on the front too so you can hear clearly what music you are changing thru on the screen, which IS on the front. I've been wondering when I'm going g to see a phone with a speaker on the front also

I do construction for a living so at times I'm exposed to metal shavings and what not. Is there a way to clean the ear pice and speaker out on my evo cause at times its terrible. Sprint store will replace speaker but they don't do a thing about ear piece. Any help would be sweet.
Mine is the same way from locksmithing, unfortunately I never found a fix just a work-around. I got a bluetooth headset.
There is another thread about this already for evo 4g. You need an earth magnet and it requires taking apart the phone. It does work, it did for me at least. I thought I kept blowing the ear piece speaker and it turned out to just be metal shards in the speaker (I work in construction).

that stoner at Circle K with ICS. Yummy
ooops! Thanks, forgot to add the [URL} to it, much appreciated!
I am in dire need of something to replace my Incredible s.
I work around steel fabrication, meaning lots of steel dust and shavings. After a year, I already had to replace my Incredible s speakers because they became loaded with metal dust, and they are already going out again after a few months.
Anyone use their Nexus in smiler conditions?
I was about to hit the buy button when I read Sony announced the Xperia ZR (water and dust proof/resistant), and now am holding off to see the pricing. It also does away with the two only things that made me hesitate on the Nexus in the first place, memory (I can slide my 32gb card into it) and no glass back.

Hm, metal shavings aren't gonna be good for any phone, even less so for the n4..
The grill holes for the ear piece are small and metal shavings shouldn't get in it to bad I've had to blow mine out a couple of times with canned air but it was from dust of mudding and then sanding dry wall.
Now as for the speaker I think this would go out very easily as the grill holes are bigger
Personally I would look at the HTC one, it's made from a solid price of aluminum and Injected molding for the plastic parts however I do not know what the speaker grills look like for the one. Just seems like it may do better around metal

If you can get a hold of something to block the openings on the phone, the N4 should be fine. I have no experience with anything near metal dust, but I imagine it could be pretty bad for any device's internals having direct exposure to it (short circuiting and whatnot).
That Xperia ZR sounds like it would be a better choice though.
The only real problem I have is that the speakers have magnets, and hold onto any steel dust that get through the screen covering them. The rest of the phone stays clean with a screen protector and tpu case. I never find any more then a few specks under the case or under the back cover.
when I pulled the speakers out they had a good teaspoon of steel dust stuck all around them.
I'm a steel fabricator as well. What I do is keep my nexus 4 in a zip lock bag. A thicker and smaller one that I got from a shipment of bolts.

Well.... I weld and work on heavy equipment everyday and have never had a problem. That said I take caution with my phone but there has been a few "incidents" and the only issue I have ever had was caused by media from a blasting machine scratching the screen. I am sure it has been exposed to metal shavings but have never seen any on the speaker grills. I love my nexus, but it isn't the most rugged phone. If I had genuine concern for contaminates from the work environment I would look into a dust and water proof model. Speaking of which Cat has its own android phone coming out....

I work around paper dust. It gets everywhere. I have a seidio active case. The dust pools at the speaker and camera openings.

There's also a waterproof ruggedized version of the s4 coming out

why not put some extension at your tpu case to prevent metal dust to infiltrate?
back speaker is easy to protect...

Not that it matters much here, but the "Z" has a glass back, the newly announces "ZR" is reported to have a plastic back.
what if you stick a piecee of tape over the speaker and ear piece before going to work everyday? sounds kinda cheap but it might work
Take a look at the Cat B15 http://catphones.com/ or JCB Toughphone http://www.jcbtoughphone.com/ or Fortis phones.
They are all listed on Amazon and would likely hold up better than the Nexus even in a hard case.
old thread update
For those that googled this lile i did
Been welding for 11 years and been through about 16 phones
A lifeproof case or a redpepper case keeps everything out.
If you dont like typing through a loose peice of plastic like myself
Clean out speaker ports daily with a magnet
Do not use compressed air. I have damaged several speakers with this method.
Been using my note 4 for 6 months alr starting to hear some annoying sound coming from the plastic back any way to solve this problem?

buy a new back cover?
cut a small piece (4x6cm) of paper and fold it once so that it is 4x3cm, place it over the sim card slot and close the back cover, should be fine
EDIT: the measures are approximate, don't put it over the battery as it would make a bump on the back cover
Has anyone found any other cases that redirect the bottom firing speakers to the front of the device like the Schnail Savior cases do?

I got a case that does it, it is a lunatik taktik, inner silicon, metallic front and back, it is really heavy, and adds 1 cm to the 4 edges, so, it is only good for people not minding the added bulk

Great! I'd love to see it
Can you provide a link for the case?
EDIT:
I just Google'd it. Funny enough, I bought a rebranded version of that same case for my girlfriend and myself, 2 years back when we had note 8 and s8+
It's a nice heavy duty case, but over time, the rubber on the back starts to expand and bubble due to the heat the phone puts out. Hopefully it doesn't do that to you and your phone

Thr inner part is made of silicon, which I doubt will be affected by heat, maybe the one you talk about was made of another material? Anyway, I will keep an eye for those bubbles you mention, thanks
I was able to find another case that redirects the bottom speakers to the front:

Unfortunately, this is out of stock.
If anyone has found another case with this feature, I would really appreciate it if you could link us to one that you have bought

Here you go. It's Spigen, I don't personally have this case so I don't know the sound quality you'll get coming out of it

Funnily enough that lunatik taktik looks exactly like what I have on my phone except it's by a company called LoveMei. I think it cost around £15 and the cameras are covered on the back. The only downside is that on days when I go out for walks and it's raining the camera cover tends to fog up. There is another brand similar that has an open camera setup where the camera module is exposed.
