Hey guys. Finally said good bye to old champion Galaxy S2 and now on Nexus 4! Love the device. However, I'm in a situation where I need to decide if I should get a replacement or not.
- I do hear that buzz sound in earpiece (not loud though - sometimes its not there)
- Rattling sound -- it is related to lens I realize
Is it worth it to get replacement (given replaced device may be in the same boat lol). Lots of people are reporting these issues.

The rattling in the camera is normal. Auto shutter or some **** that moves. Its normal. The buzzing is not. Some have them some don't. If you can't ignore it replace it. You paid for a phone don't buzz so don't put up with it unless you don't feel its a big deal.

I bought my phone on launch day. I feel like my buzzing has become worse over time. And it gets worse the fewer bars I have (I recently traveled to a different state with worse coverage and the buzzing became annoying and would get worse right before it dropped a call). I'd consider RMAing it. However, even the new ones have the problem, as you can attest to. I'm probably going to RMA my phone at some point, I'm just lazy.

I got replacement device and it still has the same issue!! even worse than the original one. So disappointed I love nexus but can't keep up with this week after week replacement.

The rattle you hear isn't the camera.
It's the little thing you have to press to eject the simcard.
If u eject the simcard you can put a little piece of paper or something like that behind it and it stops rattling

If the issues are actually affecting you then get a replacement, Google send you the replacement first before you actually send your defective unit in so you dont have to worry about being without a phone.

I thought I'd get some opinions from folks here regarding the screen whine issue that some LCD screens get.
I recently bought a replacement Tytn off ebay after breaking my screen on mine. When it arrived it looked fine. I put it on charge and started cleaning it. That night I find out it's got a high pitched whine making it almost unusable.
I've sent it back to the seller and asked for a refund but he says he's contacted HTC to find out if it's a recognised fault or not. If it's not something that HTC acknowledge then he's going to make me make arrangements to pick it up from him.
Does anyone know if this is a recognised fault with the phone?
AFAIK, I have got some experience with some other handheld, it appear the pitch noise come from LCD inverter. seen some picth noise in early production of O2 Atom, old handera handheld. even nokia e61 generates pitch noise if you listen it closely. what I can not confirm is where the LCD inverter located, in mainboard or in LCD modul it self. So I can ot tell you which one is broken.

I've found loads of info on Google about it. It appears to be quite common with some of the older mobile phones.
Is it reasonable to expect me to have to accept a phone which has an audible whining noise to it?
Well... actually it's up to you, If you find the whining noise is too loud for your ear maybe you should return it while you can. As my experience when I had Handera with whining noise, I had return it. but when the replacement came back, the whining noise get worse and the company said that there's no problem at all with my Handera.
Later on I found out what cause the whining noise, and actually very simple to fix it, just find the inverter ?? (sorry I don't know what they call it in english, It's ferit core and copper wire wrapped around it) and put some wax from the candle or you can use glue.
And again, I don't know where exactly the inverter located in Hermes device, or maybe they use different model of inverter in Hermes.

He says it's not that loud/irritating so I'm not sure what to do.
I've just dealt with it. The whine is only there when the LCD screen is on. My 8525 phone is exactly 1 year old. It can be irritating though, so I use the earbuds whenever I can.

That's the problem, he doesn't want to refund. He wants me to keep the phone so he doesn't have to deal with it.

i am on my second tytn. I bought both used and in PRISTINE condition on Craigslist. The first one I bought had it, and so I asked for my refund from the seller. The second one (that I have now) just started the whining noise yesterday. I've had it since January 2008. It SUCKS!!!

PS: the noise is heard when I put my ear to the front speaker up close. It's weird. I heard it as soon as I move my ear to it. However, after about 5 seconds I don't hear it anymore. Then as soon as I move my ear away, I hear it again... It's like my ears become desensitized to it? lol

It is quite possible. It's like being in a room with an analog clock. You may have sat in that room 100 times, with the same noise around you, but for some reason this time you can hear the tick tick tick of the hand movement. Then just as quickly as you noticed it you can suddenly not hear it no matter how hard you try.
It can be a state of mind that results in your heightened sense of hearing or it can be as simple as your tympanic membrane being a little tighter.
Like the above poster said, I hear mine sometimes too, and other times I dont hear it at all.
To the OP, if the seller has your phone and your money, then either keep asking for your money back and if that doesnt work, email ebay or give him bad marks stating what he has done. If that doesnt work, you can threaten to take him to small claims court ( Judge Judy ). What is loud and irritating to you maybe not to him. Get you rmoney back. Hope this helps..
I think the reason the sound goes in and out is due to the fact that the screen istelf goes to sleep after a few seconds, or what ever you have set in the system...
My screen starting making this noise a few weeks ago. I love the functionality of this phone, but I am pretty much done with it. I can't stand all the tweeks that come with it.
I jumping to the iPhone as soon as they make the slinbox player for it... and they roll out the 3g functionality.
Don't mean to rant, but I am just frustrated.
I think the phone was dropped of damaged and that is why it gives off a high pitch sound.. Mine dropped onto a hard concrete floor. It looks and works perfectly fine but immediately after it emits a high pitched sound when ever the screen is on.
This is not normal for the TyTn which means it was damaged in some way prior to you getting it. Demand a refund.
Hi guys - the person I bought the phone from is still waiting for HTC to get back to him so he still has both the money and the phone.
Even if HTC say it's not a recognised fault, it's still unusable to me because it's really loud to me.
I'm not sure there's much I can do as I'm not exactly in a strong position to make demands.
Personally I think it would be unreasonable for him not to refund me but then he might not be a reasonable person.

The sound is definitely from the LCD - the speaker is fine once the screen is switched off (i.e. you can turn the screen off while on the phone and it's still fine).
I've had 3 8525's, one of them had this problem from day one. There have been a few threads about it as well.
I have just learned to turn my screen off during a call. It's real easy and quick, besides, you aren't looking at the phone when you are talking on it, and if you are, you probably can't hear the whine.
However, if you don't want to deal with the whine, then don't. Hopefully you paid through paypal and can just file a claim if the guy doesn't want to be fair. It is a defect and they should back you up.
If not, look to ebay and see if there is anything further you can do with them.
Call HTC yourself. Don't wait for him.

Ok, I purchased an ADP1 last month and have been running into issues since.
So far:
1. Phones been creaky. I had to fix this by putting electrical tape on the chin of the phone.
2. The earpiece makes a buzzing noise, occasionally harder to hear than the caller on the other end. Had to fix this with more electrical tape on the earpiece.
3. The back battery case was making a chirping noise when I held it with my hand. Had to apply electrical tape on the inside of the case to fix that.
4. Now -- Just discovered that my pictures I take have a huge black spot on each of them (I've attached a picture as an example... the spot is usually noticeable during the day time/outside, but thats a picture against a white wall). Does anyone know how to fix this issue/experience this problem as well?
So many problems with this product is really starting to piss me off. Can anyone offer any suggestions on #4? I've fixed the others with tape. But I just discovered #4 and I'm really beginning to lose patience here.

Yeah I would say that you have a defective phone need to look into getting it replaced or return for another one. As for number 4 the only thing I can think of is something on the camera lense or the backcover of the phone but that would be to easy

i just dont want to send it in because i paid to have this one unlocked and paid to have a full body shield which i installed on it...
thats like 40 dollars i would lose out on

Yeah, well actually I fixed the buzzing noise with black electrical tape on the keyboard ends. I havent heard the noise since.
As far as the spot goes on my camera lens, I'm going to write a perl script that undertakes gimp and automatically eliminates dust from any pictures I take with the click of a button. Hopefully that will fix that issue.
I'd hate to send it in too and get a 'refurb' that has different problems etc.
Open up the back cover and wipe the camera. Maybe that spot is just a spot on the lens.

Refurbs don't always have "different problems" a refurb is a remanufactured device. Which in most cases is better off then a "Brand New" phone because they go through more testing. I have a "refurb" because of the creaking and I have not experienced anything wrong with this device, and have had it for about 2 months. Not always the case but why "put up"with something that you can have fixed. Also refurbs are not always returned devices due to failure, granted the majority are but some also come back as "buyers remorse" type return. "I didn't like it, I don't want it."
Sorry for the long post but point is don't just "put up" with something because of the misconception that because you are getting a refurb it will automatically have problems. You are just cutting yourself short and will never be happy with your device.

Sooth. The refurb I'm running (TMo forced me to RMA my initial one in November due to a dead cell tower in my neighborhood) was in better condition than my first one. I love customers at my job that whine, piss and moan about receiving a refurb as a replacement. New items aren't tested and there is an acceptable failure rate out of the box. That's the way it is with EVERY equipment manufacturer where as refurbs are tested and repackaged. Personally, I'll buy used if it was tested as functional and comes with the same warranty (which generally happens). But today's generation is now now now, new new new = better better better.
lol i was typing from g1 so i felt the post was getting to long thus i left out the testing that refurbs go thru. i hear this all day, this is always the biggest complaint but people really dont understand what goes into remanufacturing a device
how about removing the electrical tape from the camera lens.

There they have to conduct "testing" to determine whether its a hardware problem and its "damaged" or "defective"

I just bought a nexus 7 yesterday, and everything about it is fantastic. No screen issues that people have been talking about, and just a great device. The only problem that I'm having is the speaker is extremely quiet. Headphones sound great, but once I unplug them and turn the volume all the way up, I can barely hear anything, even with my hand cupped around the speaker. I'm a bit nervous to RMA because everything else is flawless on the device. I don't know if this is an issue that people have seen before because I have not read anything about it, but I'd like to know if anyone else has run into it. It's not the worst problem in the world because I use headphones most of the time, but when I want to show people a video or a song they aren't going to be able to hear it I've just been trying to use it to see if it might fix itself (may sound stupid but it has happened before), but I just wanted to see if anyone has had this issue before. My Nexus 7 gets pretty loud, so if your problem is for all sources, it's likely defective.
Another issue is that I bought it from a store, not Google play, so Google won't do an RMA for me. I really don't want to deal with Asus RMA, so if the store I got it from won't exchange it for me (they have a reputation for that), I think I'm kinda stuck with....
ASUS RMAs sound like a nightmare, so I don't blame you. But basically having no speaker would suck too. So I'd probably to deal with the painful RMA as soon as possible and get it out of the way.
The C70K batch that ASUS is making now sounds like it has much fewer defects, so you should get a good replacement.

I have just received my long-awaited Nexus 4. The screen is perfect, there is no static sound (at least not to the extent which would bother me), no flexing etc.
HOWEVER... I can hear cracking noise in the ear speaker whenever it is on. I.e. whenever somebody tells me something via it, the sound is like through an old speaker, cracking etc... The same problem occurs on all volume settings (I wouldn't be surprised if it occurred on the loudest setting). It is loud enough to be annoying.
Do you have any ideas what it is? Do you think there is some software fix, or should I RMA? Given the appalling Google store service (I am still waiting for shipping labels for Nexus 10), I would prefer to avoid it...

There is an issue where the speaker lets out a little buzzing sound but this hardly noticeable and doesn't interfere with the sound coming through the ear piece, so what you describe is a hardware fault, probably a faulty speaker. You will need to exchange it.

I called Google support and did an RMA. It's been a week and still waiting for the replacement to be shipped. Called again regarding the shipment of the replacement and the rep said he needs to forward the case to a specialist.
Anyway, I still think you should do an RMA. Why tolerate a defective device that you paid full price for?

So.... I have done RMA for both my Nexus 4 (cracking noise in earspeaker) and Nexus 10 (significant light bleed). The "UK" Google customer service is just appalling - they don't know anything and don't ship labels whatsoever. Shipping specialists are equally unhelpful and ignorant.
Although on paper the devices are nice - I am sorry, but Google devices have given me the worst experience I have ever had when dealing with ANY electronics in the whole of my life. I can truly say that I would be embarrassed to recommend buying any Nexus device to any of my friends...
The more I think the more I am convinced that I should have given up all the features and gone with iphone and ipad. Because it just works...

I'm very interested in the N5 when it comes out, but to say I'm apprehensive of buying another LG device would be a bit of an understatement.
1. My device had a constant squealing/buzzing noise coming from the speaker at all times. It was a known fault on these forums at the time. Did LG ever solve this in later batches of phones? Did anyone have a phone with this issue and just keep it, if so how is it now?
2. Awful washed out screen - my device just looked like cr*p. I guess this is something that could maybe have been solved with software? Was it ever?
3. Poor touch response - my N4 wouldn't register swipes properly, in fact it was almost unusable. Was this resolved?
I have to say that I'm not knocking the phone - aside from these issues it was a great phone (well, apart from the glass back and meagre 16GB storage, but those things were intentional, as opposed to poor components/manufacturing/software).

1. You speaker must have been defective.
2. This is Google's colorimetry for the Nexus 4, it can be fixed by flashing a tweaked kernel.
No idea about 3. I usually don't have a problem with swipes, but some apps such as Shuttle Music Player may be less sensitive than others.

It sound like you are knocking the phone. It very well may be the best value on the market today. I never experienced any of those issues and neither have the friends of mine who happen to have the same model.
