USB file transfer ridiculously slow - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently transferring a 727mb file to my razr M through USB,and its taking almost 8-10 minutes!
What's the deal? Its always this painfully slow and its annoying as hell
EDIT: I'm transferring the file from my PC to my Razr M's SD Card BTW

Do you have other programs that are heavy running on your computer at the same time? And is this the first time its been that slow?

Windows 7 evo pictures

I was just wondering from anyone that is familiar with computers and windows and networks how is it that my PC had pictures that were only on my phone?
Story
Formatted hard drive because of problems. Installed windows again. I then took the hard drive back out and connected it to my other PC because I learned how to recover my thousands of pictures after formatting. Here is the weird part. I am finding pictures that have never left my phone unless they were texted to my wife but she has here own laptop and toesnt touch my PC.

I know right?

Many, many ways this could happen. You say the pics were on another computer. If there was any kind of network between the two, there are many ways the pics could have gotten transferred. And not to mention, just by connecting the evo to a computer, any number of software programs could have easily transferred the files without you knowing.
That's kinda what I was thinking. I do charge it from the computer and my wife never charges her shift from the computer but there both on network. Its gotta be from charging it. Hmm. That could be dangerous lol

Sd card transfer problems

I'm currently using an 8GB sdcard. I bought a 16GB and tried to transfer data. The first problem I have is that it takes forever to transfer it from my computer to the new card. I used a USB cord (new) and it still takes hours. Once it finally finished transferring I reboot and none of my data is there. What am I doing wrong?

Did you get the card from ebay? It's likely the card is a fake, or is just DOA.
of course ,i think the sd card is a fake,to change another sd card to try again

I bought the card from DailySteals.com. It looks like a legit card and my computer recognizes it.

Run that program above. Just because it looks good doesnt mean it is good, thats the whole reason these places make it look normal, so you think you are buying a real card.
And again, it could just be a bad card as well, contact the site and see about a return.
Will do.

Nexus sometimes freezes when connected to external HD and OTG cable

As the title says sometimes when I try and move files from the Nexus to my external HD using OTG cable and stickmount pro the Nexus will just freeze up and i have to disconnect the OTG cable and restart the Nexus, the files I'm trying to move are all less than 500MB so i cant understand why this is happening, anyone any assistance?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Are you using an external hd with its own power source? There may not be enough current to maintain the hd during large transfers.
Use an OTG cable with stickmount pro, all my files show up shortly after connecting and i have transfered music on the Nexus but probably one around 150MB max, the problem seems to be when I go and move files around 500MB it looks as if it is transferring but the screen goes dark and won't turn back on, and I have to take the OTG cable out and reboot the Nexus
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I have come to the conclusion that I need a better OTG cable, maybe the one I have isn't powerful enough, I cannot think of anything else, unless anyone else has any tips?

Are you on Win8 by chance? Use airdroid or something similar for files that arent huge. There's another thread about this somewhere, basically MTP+Win8=sad face
I am on Windows 7 in both cases
Thanks for the hint, might be the same issue for me as well

I've had this happen on a few occasions where I copy a very large amount of files at a time. I usually will split up the amount of files I transfer now and don't have the problem any longer.

Use adb and see if anything changes.

Thanks. Will give that a shot!

Just wanted to thank everyone. It's not perfect but it is copying with out crashing every single time. Did the and drivers and an process crashed. So it's the phone. But uninstalling and and reverting back to MTP worked. Crashes on big files but rarely do I can live with it.

I've noticed it does freeze when transferring big files from my windows 7 pc to my phone. all you have to do is wait it out. it will transfer. i had to wait like 2 mins for it to kick in.

I haven't noticed... are you using a USB 3.0 port with original cable? I noticed the one that came with it was a thicker cable than your traditional ones. I like to upload to dropbox then download it seems to be quick and I can access it from anywhere.

By slow, how slow do you mean? I never connect my phone physically to the PC, I always use Wireless Storage. When writing multiple files to the phone... like over a thousand files mostly pictures and totaling to about 1.75GB, I was getting speeds of over 1MB/s. That's about the same speed I've seen with other phones... or have I just been experiencing slow speeds with other phones too?
Thank Google and the mtp protocol

Use airdroid to transfer the files wirelessly across your network. I hate mtp.
Jeez Google, was USB mass storage mode THAT bad?

I'll assume it had to do with idiots idioting up there file system when it's non sd our emulation issues? I'm probably wrong. I miss it.

What's the speed that Windows is saying it's being copied at. Telling me it takes 1-2 hours to copy your stuff doesn't tell me anything.
