[Q] /System/app seems to be full, what do i do? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got stock Motoblur launcher for ICS&JB including Widgets, after I installed it, the launcher config disappeared and I tried copying HomeConfig.apk to /system/app and it said that it had no space left. I also wanted to copy some of the features from Razr M's MotoBlur and i cant because adb says that /system/app is at 100%.
I'll try with a fresh installation and see what happens.

Look at link2sd, but you need to be root on your device...

Try removing any built in apps that you are not using. I suppose you've been pushing a lot of stuff to system partition? Most apps (except launchers which need to put widgets) work just as well from data partition, afaik. Try moving some apps from /system/app/ to /data/app. But be careful, coz now you'll be able to uninstall them from Settings->Manage apps.

[Q]System app update

let's say if the apps such as rom mangers, superusers are preinstalled into the /system/app of android, if there is a newer version, does android overwrite the apps in the /system/app or create a new one in /data/app?
/system/app, but what system apps get moved to /data/app? cause if it were preinstalled into /system/app and updated, it can't be uninstalled anyway since it would be already installed in system app? im not sure about all of this anyway xD or maybe like the youtube app which is now in the market so it can be moved to /data/app when updated?
but why is this thread stated that apps update goes into data/app even they are system apps?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841598
i search around the forum and saw many said that too...sorry i just need a confirmation
any help guys?
i am trying to move some apps to /system/app from /data/app to free up some space since they have different partition in the phone internal memory (correct me if im wrong)
if new system app update will create another entry in /data/app that would be troublesome since i have to move the new updated app to /system/app again..
or is there anyway that i can trick android system to merge partition of /system/app and /data/app?

how many system apps can you flash on the nexus 1

I was just wondering how many apps can u flash to the internal memory or how much space does it have total

Is that big apps, or little apps??!! :-/

Total /system memory is about 145MB. An average ROM install will take up from 130-135MB of that, though it varies from ROM to ROM.
I haven't moved any new apps to the /system/app directory, but by moving updates of stock Google apps from /data/app to /system/app, I've been able to save a lot of memory space. Titanium Backup Pro's ROM integration feature for updated system apps has made this a lot easier than doing it manually. The updated apps I've moved into /system/app are
Maps
Market
Goggles
Gmail
Voice Search
YouTube
I wasn't able to move the apps that originally had a .odex component but found that simply deleting the .odex file after doing the ROM integration fixed the force closes I was getting.

Cannot find some preinstalled in \system\app after upgrade to ICS and rooting

Dear all,
Yesterday I updated my P7510 to ICS using the UK ICS release and rooted the thing properly. I managed to delete some of the preinstalled apps using RootExplorer in the \system\app folder, but for example I cannot find the apk to get rid of Pulse (what is the name of the apk in this case). Is it located somewhere else or is there another folder in which apps are stored as well? Please let me know. Thanks in advance.
Although I can help you with the location, manually deleting the apps from /system/app seems like to much "work". Just get Titanium Backup and uninstall (and probably backup first) Pulse and all the other via the app.
Thanks for your reply. In the mean time I kicked out all unwanred preinstalled apps manually, so I am only looking for the apk name of pulse
I found that some apps were just "Installed" have you tried to just uninstall them?

Not all apps are installed to /system/apps when you ODIN flash, check /data/app for the Pulse.

Deleting preinstalled apps

I have a rooted motorola defy mini with stock gingerbread 2.3.6. Can I delete apps in the flex/app directory without corrupting android? Also, I deleted some stock apps and replaced them with downloaded apps. If I place them in the system/app directory will they be installed on the phone when I do a factory reset?

So I tried deleting a few apks and it didn't affect android in any way. I deleted all files containing moto or blur in the name and the phone is still working like it's supposed to. I also placed the launcher pro apk in the system/app directory and it was installed when I did a factory reset, so that also works for anyone who would like to do something like this

How can I turn action launcher into a system app?

Apparently the action launcher dev managed to implement Google now into it, making it work just like on the original Google now launcher. But the app needs to work as a system app. I tried downloading the apk from apkmirror and copied it into system/app and set all the right permissions, it didn't work. I also tried it via lucky patcher and titanium backup, still didn't work. After I reboot the app is just gone, like it was never installed.
Did you just throw it into /system/app? Because I tried that before as well with another app and the same happened. The solution was that you need to create a folder for the app, like /system/app/actionlauncher.
Edit: Wait, I'm wrong. It worked for me when I put the apk into /system/priv-app/yourfoldername. So try it with that location.

I installed the app normally from the play store, then I went into data/app and moved the entire app folder to system/priv-app like you recommend and I set the right permissions. I rebooted and the app is gone, it's like it wasn't ever installed.
Then try to put the apk into system/priv-app/ without any subfolder.
If you it's possible to create backups in this launcher, make a backup and uninstall first.

Tried. Not working.
Then I have no idea tbh. One of these two options worked for me a while ago.
Maybe there's some updated app that can do this?
I don't know. I think Titanium and Lucky Patcher are always held up to date and you said they wouldn't work.
Here's a screenshot of my system app's location and permission. I put it there, restarted, and it said "Optimizing app 1 of 1" like when flashing a fresh ROM and was successfully installed.
