How is the LWP performance? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Nexus 4 has the most powerful Hardware and processor, lets say, I don't care about battery dying, and I use Many live wallpaper.
Generally, LWP reduces the frame rate of all animations, be it launcher scrolling, or whatever operations.
I want to know, do u notice any frame drop, or choppy animations when you use LWP on Nexus 4.????

Whenever I test out a ROM, the default wallpaper is usually a LWP. I don't change it though so when I'm testing the ROM I don't notice any lag with it running.

Choppy scrolling

On my vibrant, which I smashed , the launcher+ and launched pro 3rd app draw was super smooth. With the mt4g it is very choppy. Is that a gpu issue and is there any remedy?

This is one thing I miss from the Vibrant as well. I'm not really sure if it's a GPU thing or a touch screen accuracy/tracking thing. My Nexus (HTC made as you know) is similar to the MT4G with choppier scrolling than the Vibrant... so it might be something similar with all HTC phones. The Vibrant was definitely the smoothest android phone I've seen though... (graphically at least)

I dont have any lag in my app draw. I did with the stock draw though, thats the reason I use launcher pro. That lag can ruin your overall impressions of the phone for sure...maybe its a ROM issue? I am running the unthemed iced ROM.
At any rate hopefully it will get better for you all after a few more optimized ROMs hit.
I was running a live wallpaper. As soon as I turn it off the app draw lag reduced by 95%. Yeah the stock sense draw lags regardless.

So is your scrolling as smooth as the Vibrant's now? I'm not running a live wallpaper but there's still no way my MT4G scrolling in any menu and the launcher pro app launcher is anywhere near as smooth as the Vibrant was...

Live wallpapers

On every Rom I've tried (excluding sense Roms; they don't have handy animations, and I personally hate Sense.) Live Wallpapers lag the launcher. Whether it's the app drawer zoom or scrolling, it has a slight, but very annoying, lag. Is there any possible way to fix this? I love live wallpapers and I love the gingerbread launcher animations, but they don't play nice on my Leo. Anyone get it nice and smooth? This is making me really want a Nexus S lol. Thanks.

I rarely use Live wallpapers as they drain the battery big style but in answer to your question no i don't believe there is a fix yet for the lag you are talking about although i stand corrected on that.
I think it's the Adreno. Lwps worked perfect on my gt540, which had one of the mid end pvr gpus I believe.

speed

Is there any slowdown with any live wallpaper, microbes comes to mind that one really slowed down my galaxy nexus. Also the browser with heavy flash website does it stutter when scrolling or pinching to zoom thanks.
Can you post the apk for microbes? I'll test it out for you. So far all stock live wallpaper has no lag.

Nexus seems slow

My phone seems overall kind of laggy. I'm on stock 4.2.1 with stock kernel. Just started noticing the lag today. Minimal but annoying and seems to exist on almost all the kernels I have tried.

It's cheap and dirty, but I always set animations to half speed (.5x) and use Nova launcher with the animations cranked to fast. That makes me feel all warm inside.
My advice would be to root and flash a custom ROM such as Parandroid.

How exactly are you defining 'lag' though? I'm on a rooted stock ROM and stock kernel with no issues whatsoever, speed is much faster than any phone I've used before.
I have tonnes of apps installed on the stock ROM. Runs okay at the moment, beautifully smooth
there is definitely lag on the touch gestures. i see it and it's been commented-on in reviews.
eg. when you gesture to scroll or pinch expand there is a momentary delay (fraction of a second) before anything happens. just long enough to be annoying. it's not instant.

That's because of the poor touch screen sensitivity of the phone.

That's not lag, that's just the lack of sensitivity in the touch screen. It's hardware related but if you look at this video from oode (definitely subscribe to him for quality tech videos) it appears that this issue isn't there in Firefox for some reason. As of now I don't know of any solution as such.

Just the occasional freeze for a second on opening the keyboard or apps, seems slower than last week when I got it.

OK, I installed the touch increase mod and the lag is better

Laggy animations

I have two nexus 4 in my hand and one of the phones runs more smoother and nicer than the other one. For example, the lock animation runs nice and smooth in the first one but the other one runs OK but a bit laggy compare to the first one. Anther example is the app drawer that open smoother that the second one.
They both has the same animations speed. (x1.0)
