Hi all,
just got my Nexus 7 and while I like the hardware, I'm not so happy about the fixed "dock" at the bottom of the screen (where the six shortcuts and the menu button sit). I much preferred the Honeycomb/ICS layout where there was only one black bar at the bottom with the nav keys on the left and the time & notifications on the right. I don't think there is a way (without rooting) to bring that back?
The fixed dock (or whatever it's called) with menu and shortcut buttons really annoys me.
Is there any way to remove that (without rooting)?
Help is much appreciated!
Many thanks,
N.

Hey, I own a nexus 4 16gb, its rooted.
Anyone knows about a good navigation bar alternative ? i can make it disappear with the qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 thing but i couldn't find a way to replace it.
I tried the LMT pie, worked pretty well until i got into a game.. for some reason it doesn't work in games, so i just needed to reboot my phone to quit the game.
I remember that i saw somewhere someone with a navigation bar appearing in the menu of long pressing the power key. anyone know how to do that or have another good alternative for a navigation bar ? Thanks
Aokp rom has buttons in the power menu, or you could use gestures; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontroldemo

Thanks, are there any more alternatives ?
You can try to add a ribbon to a edge of the screen.
Generally I put pie on the right side and a empty ribbon on the bottom which activate the "application window" ribbon when swiping from the bottom to the center of screen.
This option is present in many roms, including one I'm testing right now the Axiom rom.
Also, I activate Pie only in expanded desktop. You can add this action to the power menu, but I don't know how if you're on stock.
That's all I can do since I use LMT on my tablet with Pie installed too, I've never encountered problems.
Hi
Stupid problem!
Bought my daughter a ZTE Blade 3. Stock ROM from Virgin UK.
Somehow she has dropped an icon over the "all apps" icon in the bottom row of icons on the home screen.
All fixes I can find involve a long press on the home screen and a menu coming up with a menu that includes shortcuts or something similar. However the menu that comes up doesnt have anything relevant!
Any ideas?
Cheers
Rob
Coming from using Nexus devices for a long time, i got used to not always having the menu button on the nav bar (it shows on demand, and many apps like Chrome have a menu button in the ui), is it possible to get the same functionality on our G2s ?
Hi guys,
long story short, my phone got some water splashed on it. So now the top portion of the touchscreen is insensitive (pretty much just the status bar area). So I cannot expand notifications by dragging down using my finger, but the pen still works.
I was wondering if there is a way to long press menu button to expand the notifications system wide. I tried my luck with xposed additions and it works for everything, but it just doesn't have the option for the notifications bar
I have been using Nexus phones for years with custom ROMs that have option to enable arrow keys on the left/right border of the Navbar. This is super adictive feature to move cursor back/forth. Is there any way to get those on S8? I checked numerous apps for customizing the Navbar but didn't find any that could do this. Some keyboards have option to show arrow keys (e.g. Smart Keyboard Pro that I use) but it is not elegant as it takes space vs. the option in Navbar that is sumply so cool... I am not yet ready to move away from stock ROM on my new S8 - maybe once Lingeage will get stable
So, after some more search I found a great solution - Custom Navigation Bar app (https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-custom-navigation-bar-customize-t3590967) that works exactly like I want. I can add the left/right arrows. i am using the following settings:
- Type: Keycode
- Keycode: Dpad Left / Right
- Icon: Chevron left / right
Hope it helps to somebody
