Navbar Arrow keys on Stock ROM - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I have been using Nexus phones for years with custom ROMs that have option to enable arrow keys on the left/right border of the Navbar. This is super adictive feature to move cursor back/forth. Is there any way to get those on S8? I checked numerous apps for customizing the Navbar but didn't find any that could do this. Some keyboards have option to show arrow keys (e.g. Smart Keyboard Pro that I use) but it is not elegant as it takes space vs. the option in Navbar that is sumply so cool... I am not yet ready to move away from stock ROM on my new S8 - maybe once Lingeage will get stable

So, after some more search I found a great solution - Custom Navigation Bar app (https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-custom-navigation-bar-customize-t3590967) that works exactly like I want. I can add the left/right arrows. i am using the following settings:
- Type: Keycode
- Keycode: Dpad Left / Right
- Icon: Chevron left / right
Hope it helps to somebody

[Guide] Undocumented Features (Stock)

I've been playing with this phone non - stop now and I've found some interesting features that I haven't seen documented in any manual or guide , so I thought I'd share my findings with you all.
Alternate Menu / Back control with S-Pen :
Instead of drawing a backwards arrow or an upwards arrow while holding the button to activate back or menu, you can hold the button and swipe down from about an inch above either capacitive key (near the edge of the screen) to get the same effect.
Expand /Collapse Categories
I've found that in the e-mail client, you can expand and collapse the subsections of the main window by using two fingers to rotate clockwise (like spinning the compass direction in google maps) on the screen.
I don't know if these are shared functions with the original Note or if these have been documented somewhere but I've just missed it
Have you found any interesting undocumented features that you would I like to share?
When holding with one hand, press your Thumb in the middle of the screen and move it slowly all the way upwords in a loop, that will zoom out the home pages just like pinching.
When in a full screen mode (any app) swipe down quickly (from the outside of the screen) to toggle notification bar.
Only works if u swipe fast, slow won't activate it.
All credit to lucidmike for this very useful tip, check it out in his video here.

[Idea] Softkey mod

Hi all,
I have order the N4 today and I'm starting to think about it.
There is a way by a Mod or something else, to remove the softkey from the screen to use the full 4.7" screen ?
My idea is to made a mod that permit for exemple by pressing the Vol + and Vol - at the same time, to remove the softkey from the screen.
What do you think about it ?
As I'm not a dev, is there anyone that can have a look on it ?
Regards.
Haven't seen this for stock roms, but AOKP has this feature. You can adjust the size of the navbar and hide it completely. Additionally, you can add the softkeys to the power options (hold power and you can go home, back, etc.). How I set mine up is using NovaLauncher. If I swipe up on the home screen with 2 fingers, it will hide/unhide the navbar.
You can also use the PAROM with PIE, so the nav keys will be shown after a gesture, or if you don't want to flash a ROM, just use LMT.

Click to collapse
Yes, thank you I have just found it and I'm testing it (LMT).
This is so sexy !

[Q] Hide dock? (menu & shortcut buttons)

Hi all,
just got my Nexus 7 and while I like the hardware, I'm not so happy about the fixed "dock" at the bottom of the screen (where the six shortcuts and the menu button sit). I much preferred the Honeycomb/ICS layout where there was only one black bar at the bottom with the nav keys on the left and the time & notifications on the right. I don't think there is a way (without rooting) to bring that back?
The fixed dock (or whatever it's called) with menu and shortcut buttons really annoys me.
Is there any way to remove that (without rooting)?
Help is much appreciated!
Many thanks,
N.

[Q] Navigation bar alternative ?

Hey, I own a nexus 4 16gb, its rooted.
Anyone knows about a good navigation bar alternative ? i can make it disappear with the qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 thing but i couldn't find a way to replace it.
I tried the LMT pie, worked pretty well until i got into a game.. for some reason it doesn't work in games, so i just needed to reboot my phone to quit the game.
I remember that i saw somewhere someone with a navigation bar appearing in the menu of long pressing the power key. anyone know how to do that or have another good alternative for a navigation bar ? Thanks
Aokp rom has buttons in the power menu, or you could use gestures; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontroldemo

Thanks, are there any more alternatives ?
You can try to add a ribbon to a edge of the screen.
Generally I put pie on the right side and a empty ribbon on the bottom which activate the "application window" ribbon when swiping from the bottom to the center of screen.
This option is present in many roms, including one I'm testing right now the Axiom rom.
Also, I activate Pie only in expanded desktop. You can add this action to the power menu, but I don't know how if you're on stock.
That's all I can do since I use LMT on my tablet with Pie installed too, I've never encountered problems.

Android Gestures

I'm only posting here because both devices involved are smartwatches.
I have 2 android 4.4 watches that have gestures built in. The lack of soft-keys on the device prompted the devs to add 2 gestures.
1. swiping right to left acts as a back key. However the gesture recognition causes my swipe keyboard to wig out as well as the homescreen to lock and drag a specific icon around the homescreen forever.
2. swiping left to right acts a menu key. Works okay but this unfortunately feels backwards to me. My last device I had custom gestures set up allowing recent apps key (replacing menu key in most devices) to be right to left.
Where in the stock rom/android aosp would you be able to edit this?
If not possible how can I block these gestures?
Pretty specific question, so any help would be appreciated.
I apologize if this is in the wrong section.
