SSH client apps - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys,
is there an ssh app for the nexus 10? I've tried a few from the play store, namely connectssh and server auditor but the text is tiny compared to the rest for some reason?

Terminal IDE isn't a SSH only program, but it is what I usually use. Also has Telnet if that interests you.

Thanks, but it's still really small (not as small though) - I don't understand why the text can't be a little bit bigger with something like ssh >.<

you can try this:
http://sourceforge.net/p/optware-android/wiki/Home/
Command line. Full ssh client included.

You can adjust the font size in the options for Terminal IDE

The only ssh client worth using is VX Connectbot. Better hardware keyboard support and adjustable font and screen size.

I just switched over to juice ssh and so far it working great for me. It allows you to adjust the font size using the volume buttons and works with all the buttons on my bluetooth keyboard which connectbot had issues with.

That's what I use, works nicely for me too. :good:

I either use connectbot, or terminal emulator in conjunction with the hacker's keyboard. Both work well and suit my needs.

VX Connectbot is by far the best, pinch zoom to change font size, and it has lots of improvements over standard Connectbot.
It even remembers pinch zoom font size for each connection.

control iconia from another android device?

archos has a remote app that lets you use your phone as a remote for the archos gen 8 series.
anything like it for the iconia? much easier to pause from the couch then getting up and going to the tablet

+1 This would be very useful, mainly for when connected via HDMI to a TV or playing music in a different room, then just use phone as a remote.
Point of interest, the game Crazy Snowboard from the market has an option where you can play on your tablet while controlling your snowboarder from an Android phone via wifi. Figured I'd mention it since this is along the same line as what we're looking for.

Digging up an old thread here. I use TeamViewer to access my other PC's from Android devices, but am looking for something where I could access the tablet from my PC. Is anyone aware of an app to remote access the Androids?
B to the izzump!

Havent tried it but this: market.android.com/details?id=com.iandrobot.andromouse.lite
or this: market.android.com/details?id=berserker.android.apps.blueputdroid
would probally work. Basically they just turn your phone into a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Theres many other apps like this, those are just two that i picked.
Im sure there are vnc servers apps out there for android. you could install a vnc client on your phone then remote in to the tablet with the vnc server running. That would be one way of doing it. That's not very elegant but would work.

Not likely what I'm looking for as I would not be near the tablet, and even if I were, it's not likely I would use this rather than just picking up the tablet.

I thought of this, and would work maybe 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time is if my tablet happens to be somewhere other than my house as it would then be on a different network and the client would not have a way to get to it, unless there are VNC servers that have a web service that broadcasts the tablets current location, similar to dyn-dns.

Hi,
I've found an app to control an android device from another android device. You have to install the app "DroidMote Client" on the device from which you want to control and install "DroidMote Server" on the device which you want to control. I'm using this on my HTC Desire to control my Transformer while it is connected to my TV. It works really good with this devices
Look at YouTube

Bluepurdroid is free on the market and works over bluetooth. You can choose to use a mousepointer to navigate your iconia, keyboard also works. You can also use a sixaxis controller. Haven't tried this on my A500 but works great on my ps3. The mouse and keyboard works just fine, like using a bluetoothkeyboard.
Great app for controlling the a500 while using it with a HDTV.
Something like teamviewer or vpn server?
hm while using team viewer to connect to pc in the popup window on pc there is a no. which is used to cennect to the device. Did someone tried to use this no. to connect back to the team viewer on the tablet?
i've been using DroidMote between my Iconia and my Fascinate for months running netflix and google music on my tv. definitely don't regret not getting a google tv device! ha. it runs great and yes you can use a wireless (usb) keyboard and mouse but most of us also own an android phone and they're much more convenient and one handed. just thought i'd put my two cents out there for anyone stumbling across this thread. totally worth the money, replaced my wii for HD netflix streaming!

Hi there

I was wondering if there is an app like VNC (using wifi) that will work as a gaming pad or keyboard. I know it sounds silly but i play racing games with friends and we have to change seats if front of the computer. If the phone worked as keyboard via wifi it would be great (all u really need is up down right left and space bar for handbreak). Obviously it must support multi touch. I think this is a good idea for developers as it might be a very usefull. Btw sgs2 is amazing
Try remote droid, you need the app from the market, the server from there website to be running on your computer and to be connected to the same network aka via wifi.
Works well for me, trackpad plus keyboard!

This is what i was looking for but theres no arrows (like on the keyboard) and multi touch doesnt seem to work any ideas?
It uses the keyboard you have installed, so install one that has arrow keys.
Multitouch works for me, two fingers scrolls for example.

Browser that doesn't suck?

I've got a wireless USB keyboard and mouse (just plug and play) attached to my Ouya. So I can pretty much use it as a basic pc.
Trouble is, internet browsing kinda sucks on this device. What's everyone using for browser?
I've tried Chrome and Dolphin, aside stock. But I'm not really happy with any of them.
Suggestions? thanks.
cheers.
Sent from my OUYA Console using xda app-developers app
Why aren't you happy with Chrome/Dolphin?
I use Miren (http://miren.cn/) on my mobile, but I imagine Chrome would be the best for Ouya. I can't remember where the English Miren site is, but if you click the green down arrow, it will download, and when you run it, it will be localized to your language (There is at least English; that's the version I use).
I like Dolphin HD, it's my favorite browser on Android. I've heard Opera and Firefox are both pretty good, though.
I haven't tried Chrome on the OUYA, but I don't like it very much on my phone/tablet, either.
Thanks for the replies guys. My main concerns deal with wanting to use keyboard and mouse exclusively while browsing (I think I have this part figured out since I can use alt tab for app switching, and have mapped HOME to FN+F1 on my keyboard). But also feel like both dolphin and chrome have some rendering issues and flicker here and there.
I've actually been using the stock browser most, as it seems to accept more keyboard shortcuts like CONTROL+L for the address bar.
But I'm still gonna check out some other options.
Thanks again.
Side note: Flipboard is a big WIN on a big screen. So that'll do for news browsing and such.

i like chrome myself
I know it may not be what you want to hear, but i ditched the wireless keyboard + mouse and just installed blueboard on my phone and i use chrome now. Just bookmark all your favourite pages, and for anything else, use your phone for fast navigation via blue board.
a different option
I like the torch browser. It works like chrome, but has extras for downloading content off the internet.

Just checked out blue board. No clue how it could possibly be faster than using keyboard and mouse.
Not to mention it doesn't address my issues at all, as it's lacking basic navigation buttons. The blue board controller doesn't even have a HOME button.
The app doesn't even stay paired.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Anyone have a browser that works with the game controller? That would seriously help me a lot.
I'm kinda curious about BlueBoard, as I don't have an extra kb / mouse that I wanna deal with on the Ouya, but do use controllers all the time.
I don't have the Ouya just lurking, but my favorite browser for Android is xScope Pro.

firefox makes good use of the sticks (left one for scrolling, right one for zooming), but navigating through the tabs is a bit tricky..
Give lightning browser a try. You'll have to side load it but it has the feel of a real browser and works good.

Thanks. A 'real' browser experience is what I'm after. I'll check this out when I get home.
To clarify: real=desktop; since we have all the real estate of a big screen.

[Q] Best app to control Windows desktop from note 3

What is the best app to control a Windows computer from this phone over 4g network and/or wifi? I want to be able to use my phone keyboard and mirror the desktop onto the screen to control mouse functions. I'm on Windows 7

I use TeamViewer - it's free (if you're not a corporation) and it's really easy to set up. I tell all my family to install it so I can fix their problems remotely. But yeah, it should do whatever you want.
I use Logmein app, I can even listen to my music that's on my pc on my Note 3

Logmein was pricy but worth it.

Team-Viewer since years
AFreeRDP and AndroidVNC, Windows has remote desktop built in so the other paid apps seem a bit of a kludge to do something Windows already provisions for. I run an OpenVPN server on my router that bridges my phone onto my LAN from public WiFi or 4G. Most of the time my computers are running Linux and for that I use terminal emulator with ssh or AFreeRDP+xrdp or AndroidVNC...Linux (Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 in my case) has a lot of nice remote access solutions available and they work well. All free and open source too.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app
Teamviewer is the free alternative, LogMeIn has been great so far too however I would also look at Splashtop...It has alot of claims but Ive found it to be slightly laggier then Logmein or Teamviewer.

[Q] run apps on low resolution

HI, i used to run Windows 8 without any problems but after changing my monitor i cant use any if windows app. I tried changing some registry settings and it worked until restart also the the ratio wasn't maintained. My res right now is 1280 * 720, is there any way?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk
Usually for display connection and alignment... Never mess with any registry settings. That will take things down... Let us come to our point. After changing monitor you are not able to use web apps (windows store apps) or any desktop apps. What is the your new monitors resolution? And what is the display resolution mentioned inside your control panels display setting. ?

Well yes, i know that but is their any way to run em? I can't go buying a new monitor just for that, the main reason i would state is skype, it won't run as installer but only from windows store. Their may be few more that i may need in future..

Leaving aside the question of what ripoff con artist sold you a PC monitor with the resolution of my phone (and why you would use such a thing), you may be able to get it working by upgrading to Win8.1. They lowered the resolution requirements for Modern apps.
Also, pretty sure you can get the (desktop) Skype installer to work just fine on Win8. Try the .MSI file if the .EXE isn't working, or try setting Compatibility Mode for Win7.

you need to have at least 1024x768, the only metro app that can run with lower resolution is PC Settings
