For the love of god i can't understand why my Nexus 4 battery is draining while it's off! Sometimes i use my iphone 5 , and always charge the Nexus 4 in case i wanna use it,i know it's already charge. 2 days ago i let the Nexus 4 completely charge, today i power up the phone and the battery was at 14%. It happened a couple times but was always thought ah maybe i left it on or something, this time i made sure the phone was off, but battery still drains... Im on stock rom never rooted, using Nexus 7 charger... Any idea on what could be the problem?? Thx in advance!

I mean i don't have battery problem at all when i'm using it.... It's just when the phone is not in use and off it's still drains battery like it was on... I can understand something like that happening if the phone was off for a long period of time but 2 days 14% left while off seems ridiculous!

Try using the same cable and charger. Make sure Facebook isn't running or any apps that can drain your battery. Facebook killed my battery with no data connection

I just sent my first Nexus 4 in for RMA on this very issue, got the replacement on Friday, did a charge cycle, charged the phone fully up whilst off, took it off the charger (the official Nexus charger btw), and let it sit for the last day, just turned it on, and it's at 60%.... W T F !!!
This is sooo totally bizarre! I can only assume that this is common to most Nexus 4 (what are the odds of me getting two bad ones - direct from Google - with the exact the same issue?), and that people just aren't noticing, as most people don't leave their phones off after fully charging, and thus just never notice, as the battery behaves perfectly normally under usual use.
I would gratefully appreciate it if people could put this to the test, so I know whether or not to RMA the second device or not....
Was the phone powered down, or just sleeping? Any programs set to auto sync? Check for wakelocks?

If I'm not mistaken, the "charge to something about 96%" is a safety measure to increase the lifetime of the battery? Why would one want to push those last few % and lower the lifetime?

All Android phones have this "charging safety feature".
Unless you plan on using the same battery and phone for the next ten years, you are highly unlikely to notice any degradation in the battery health. I have been using one of my OEM Samsung Nexus batteries for 2 years now (it is the same battery that came with my Samsung Moment and used on an Instinct HD as well). This particular battery has been topped off on all three phones and external chargers probably 100's of times. It still charges to a full 4.19v and stays full even sitting on my nightstand for a week or two.
The "Safety mechanism" in the charging code that has been brought up over and over again is included in all Android phones. It is nothing new. The problem is that in other devices, the battery meter reads 100% when it reaches the safe full level at the batteries temperature (usually between 4.188 and 4.190). The Nexus S has an error in the driver code that causes the meter to read inaccurately(95-98%) even when the voltage reaches 4.19. I don't believe Google did this intentionally, as it would cause many misinformed people to constantly bump charge their batteries in hopes of reaching 100%. It would have made more sense to have the meter read 100% at the safe full level.
In any event, the fix for the issue is here, and already being applied to some Nexus S kernels, including the one in the OP. It's not just "cosmetic".

Bought my nexus s day one and it charges to 93%. I've noticed turning wifi on after plugging it in to charge does boost it to 98. But I always leave wifi off overnight. Don't want pesky google plus emails waking me up lol.
Overall, after nearly a year of use I'm happy with the battery life of my phone. You get used to how far you can push the phone in daily use and which settings to use.

You'll get a lot of replies from people saying they are delighted that with their battery life and claim that something is wrong with you.
From my experience with the Galaxy Nexus, I know that battery life with Android varies all over the place depending on how you use the phone and what apps you install. Install the wrong apps or get file corruption--that you can't pin down--the battery will drain just sitting there unused.
if you intend to keep the phone, I suggest getting a 12000mAH external power pack. Thanks Google for not allowing us to readily swap the battery.
Galaxy nexus 2 hour screen on time. Carried a spare battery. Nexus 4 close to 4 hours screen. I guess what I am saying is I can cope because I came from actual bad battery life.

My iphone 4s only lasts 8 hours with heavy use. Streaming movies, Sirius sat, games, web surfing.
This phone outlasts that so far with the same stuff.
But its terrible you should sell it.....
The battery has been so so for me. I'm hoping when a good kernel and Ron come it will be a lot better. I benefit from working in range of a outlet .

I swear guys I normally use same apps and on Note2 I was able to get day and day and half with heavy use and teo days with light use..but this N4 just drains battery like theres no tomorrow. Esp browsing internet..youtube..and other stuff that pulls a lot of data... The only way I can save battery is it i put brightness to almost zero and turn off wifi and data completely. I have all the normal stuff syncing and not often...facebook pulls data every 2 hours and other apps as well. I really love this device but WHY WHY WHY Google/LG decided to have non removable battery. I RESPECT Samsung so much more because they give you removable and decent battery and also give you SD card option which I can live without but its nice to have. I guess you get what you pay for.

GS3 most certainly does not dominate....
Amoled is only more efficient for blacks. Every other color it displays uses more power on AMOLED vs LCD. In fact, white uses 70% more power in AMOLED displays than LCD.
Watching 1hr video on Netflix over hspa+ at full brightness today dropped my battery from 80% to 29%. My galaxy nexus with the same use would have dropped maybe half of that.
Does that sound normal?
I'll be able to check if I have a defective unit pretty soon. I have a RMA for my earpiece speaker not working, but I'm literally stuck on a charger at all times, lol. I honestly don't really care about the crappy battery life, I still love this phone!
On the plus side, it seems to charge as fast as it loses charge, lol

I have owned mine since the 21st and I have noticed the battery to be on par with my S3 that is HIGHLY overclocked.... That being said, It could definitely be better! And the S3 has Verizon LTE so I don't know where all this drain is coming from... I use the same apps on all of my devices... Oh well! Time to get a good external battery...

Getting 3.5 hours screen on time here . with sync on , GPS on , screen 75% brightness. No issues here ,battery's great !!! " tweaking battery is waste of time . try letting it die charge it while off then another hour while on then pull charger , ( if anyone replies with letting die is bad your wrong , and u can send me all the links u want your still wrong
User error. You left a phone that has a massive 3100 mah battery for one with 2100.
My battery seems to be fine, previously I had a GSM GNex with the extended battery and my N4 has done just as well based off my usage.
I remove it from the charger around 7 a.m., use it all day for text, calls, browsing, emails. When I get home at 6 I am around 35-40% so I charge it for about 45 minutes to get me through the evening and then charge all night.
This routine has gotten me through virtually every phone I have had with a few exceptions (Treo 750 and SX-66 come to mind)
4.5 hours of screen on time is my average so far. Roughly 50% better then my Galaxy Nexus. Other than GPS remaining off, I haven't done anything special to conserve battery life. Not sure if I'm the exception, and I do wish I could swap the battery, but I can't complain too much.

i'm using a galaxy s4 since 3 months now but i have a problem since this week.
my phone looses signal at some point. nothing that i know that can cause it. it doenst turn back when activating airplane mode and then deactivating this mode.
and when i turn of the phone it turns on to the standard galaxy S4 logo and then samsung logo but then it just dies.
i have to connect it to a charger and then it works.
also my phone doenst give an announcement when my battery is emptY. it sometimes displays 15% on battery and then it dies. when charging the battery icon displays and the battery is completly empty?
i looked at my battery and it is a little bit swollen and i only use official charger at night from samsung and during the day one of nokia
anyone else with this problem?
I had the same issue. My battery was also swollen.
Replacing my battery solved the problem. At least till now (fingers crossed)

Unless you have a goof full LTE connection, expect that. Lte and battery do not get along with each other.

I´m experience that too. My battery is going slowly... Every new charge theems the phone lasts less... Battery issue?
I have experienced this during my Galaxy W days. And samsungs centre's technician told me it's because I charge my phone while using it for hours, and it's straining the battery causing the gradual swell. Since then I never plug my phone while using it and until now my s4's battery is still good as new. My phone's 4 months old already.

I'm sorry but this doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe it's Samsung's was of "diverting" the fault to the user. The battery should not swell because you're using it while charging. I've never had this issue with with my other phone, which had a very small battery by design and had to stay plugged in if I were to get any real use out of it. Over charging does gradually reduce battery life but no swelling.
I have also had this issue. Started a few days ago with random reboots and signal losses.
Has anyone taken it back to the shop? Will they want to keep the phone for testing? I just want to replace the battery and not have to send my device away for a long time. I need to know because it's rooted and if they see that the warranty will be voided. Phone is only 3 months old, this really shouldn't happen.
I think it's battery issue. Maybe Samsung spares on the battery this time... on s3 it was on memory.
I solved this issue flashing a Google edition romantic with a full wipe (formating internal sd). Take some days with this Google edition tom and battery drain stopped. This can be related to last firmware releases. Just guessing...

You should let your phone die at least once a month, then charge it all the way to 100%
With the phone turned off. I promise you will get the best life out of your battery. Good Luck MF.

A couple of things...
When applying an update on Android platforms, the battery stats are usually wiped, this results in wonky battery drain and charging indications and it usually lasts a few days to as long as a week.
So, the short story is, see if it doesnt correct itself after a week.
On occasion, Android updates dont quite go right and regardless of how Google 'intends' for updates to go, 25% of the time, youll end up doing a factory reset after a firmware update (poor performance, new error messages, wonky power issues including higher than normal battery drain and slow charge rates).
Again, the short story is, after a week, if it hasnt corrected itself, Id suggest a factory reset, then give it another week to see if the battery issue corrects itself. Obviously, realize that if during that week you install anything new that this could affect your battery life. I personally try to keep my phone as stock as possible and disable as many stock apps that I know Ill never use (my Note 3 is at around 25 stock apps disabled and Ive only installed 15 of my own apps, none of which would likely have a negative impact on battery).
Best practices for the proper care and feeding of Lithium Ion batteries is pretty straight forward. There are alot of myths out there from Nickle Cadmium batteries that just dont hold true for our current generation of batteries.
1. Whenever possible, keep the battery charged. If you have an outlet available, plug your phone in, regardless of whether its fully charged or not.
2. Try to keep your battery / device in typical room temp environments (ie a temp range of 60-85 degrees F). Obviously, this isnt always possible but dont intentionally leave a battery / device sitting on the dash in your car in direct sunlight (direct sunlight can raise the temp by as much as 25 degrees higher than the actual ambient temp), dont put your battery / device on top of a heater, etc.
3. Drain the battery periodically (referred to as a full discharge*), currently, the rule of thumb is once every 3 months and re-charge with the phone OFF, once the phone has a 100% charge (use the volume rocker to see the current charge without having to boot the phone), unplug the charger, THEN boot the phone. This gives Android a chance to see what a full discharge and charge should be (and cycles the battery giving the electronics inside the battery a chance to see the same discharge / charge).
* Note that a full discharge in todays components is when a device shuts itself down when on battery power due to lack of power in the battery to continue operating said component without damaging the battery or the component any further. Do NOT continue to turn the device on after it shuts down in this manner without first plugging external power into the device as this will likely dramatically shorten the life of the battery.
The last rule is most important..
4. IMPORTANT! Use your device like you normally would. The above three are tips for making a battery last as long as possible but when and if your phone makes you change how you live your life to any degree of extremes, you've forgotten the point of what your phone is.

i'm having a lot of troubles with the battery of my Nexus 4. I'll try to explain this strange situation...
Few days ago i noticed a ridicoulous battery drain while i was, as usually, listening to some music with my bluetooth A2DP headset Jabra HALO2. It was something like 1% every less then 1 minute. At first i thought it was due to a recently upgrade to CM10.2M1 (which is a monthly build of Cyanogenmod on 4.3) or due to a 5 minutes fast charge from the 2A charger of Nexus 10 that could have "upset" the battery.
At first i started focusing on the software side problem; i tried CM10.2RC1, CM10.2, stock 4.3, stock 4.4 and now CM11M1, and, while doing all of those wipes, i noticed that not only the discharge was insanely fast, but even the charge! The graph on the setting panel is almost vertical while cahrging, like 3% to 40% in 25 minutes.
But that's not all, sometimes, after rebooting, i noticed a battery level different from the previous boot, so i decided to wait a full discharge and then fully recharge it. I have waited the 0% (not so much time ) putting the screen always on and the LED flash too, then, i tried few times to turn it on and every time, after the boot screen disappeared it immediately started to turning off due to 0% battery.
Moreover, for being certain, i tried to turn it on in recovery and wait how much time it would take to consume the lasting charge on the battery. Surprisingly, after 30 minutes it was still there! I tried a reboot into system, showing me a 10% remaining battery (WTF), which discharged to 0% in like 3 minutes. Now i'm waiting the whole night the real discharge in recovery with screen always on, hoping that a full recharge could fix it. I would like to evidence that the phone do not overheat during both charghe and discharge, so i guess the battery itself may be ok.
I'm still not sure if it's a software problem, and i'm worrid if it could be an hardware related issue. Maybe it could have been the charge from the 2A adapter.
I really don't know what to do next. Someone knows how to help me?

I've done a full discharge until even the full hybernation has been shutted down, but seems that it hasn't solved anything. I've also noticed that in the battery stat is missing the display consumption (WTF?!?). Maybe it's a CM11M1 bug, it happen even to my Nexus 10. Here other shots:

In summary, the problem was the combination of kernel+ROM. The CM with his kernel on N4 was consuming tons of electrons. I tried Purity+Hellscore, now i reach few days of low usage and one and half of medium usage
How old is your phone? You might be able to get a replacement from Google under warranty.

It have 9 months, and yes is still under warrenty, but I've bought it in Spain, and I live in Italy. I think this will be hard to solve
I have some strange problemi too.
Sometines the phone reboot itself and the battery drops (i tried to flash all stock: recovery, bootloader,ROM ecc..)
It could be a faulty battery.. Read this topic, it looks like you have the same kind of problems.
Do you also have simlocks/loss of network connection?

It could be a faulty battery.. Read this topic, it looks like you have the same kind of problems.

I've already read this topic, i think the source of the problem may be related with mine, but symptoms are different. It is strange that this happened 9 months later!
Gully discharging the phone, rebooting, discharge again if any, reboot. Connect charger, charge full. Reboot, charge full again if any, reboot. This always worked for me.
You can also try to fully discharge, completely power off the phone and let it fully charge while powered off ( only a white battery should be shown on the display).

Unfortunately, no. Probably it is a battery related problem, i'm going to replace it and see what happen. In the meantime not even PurityROM+HellsCore kernel may handle this battery draining...
