[Q]Should i Buy a Glaxy Tab 2?

Well I recently got a Pantech burst, hence my name. But now im looking for a tablet for personal use and school. Im also interested in the ASUS Eee pad and the nexus 7. Any tips on what to get/reasons to get the tab 2?

I have an gtab 2 10.1 and i have to say that its amazing. Its smooth, has a nice display, good music boxes for a tablet and the battery life is awesome. ( 28 h with intensive use of wifi games and some youtube vids.)
The only thing thats bad about this tablet is the camera, but i think... ITS A TABLET! NOT A CANON EOS!
A little pro for you is the support of the users here in xda

Be cautious when considering the Asus. I bought a new Transformer Prime 64GB, mainly because it seemed to be rated high and was cutting edge. It never worked right. Twice I had to send it to Texas for "repair", the first time when it was only a few days old. Asus has them locked and the unlocking app doesn't work for many, so there's no way to load CWM or a custom ROM. While just under the return window I sent mine back to Amazon for a refund and ordered the 10.1 Tab 2. It may not be cutting edge, but Samsung stuff is solid and there's a lot of support. You might also want to spend some time reading the threads here on XDA about the Asus before you decide. I wish I did. Just my two cents!

I had the 8gb nexus 7 and loved it but not enough storage for me. I have the Gtab 2 7.0 with a 32gb SD card and am very happy with my purchase. If storage isn't an issue for you I would go with the nexus 7.

as much as I like my tab 2, for most folk the 16gb nexus 7 is the better purchase.

Agreed. I've gone through a couple phases with my Tab 2 7" thus far. I was initially a bit disappointed in it as the screen and performance weren't quite as crisp as my Galaxy S2 phone. But after more day-to-day use and comparing it with the hacked Nook Color I'd been using previously it's really started to grow on me and I quite like it now, especially given the price. But if I had to buy new right now I'd probably opt for a 16GB Nexus 7. The extra space provided by an external storage card on my Tab is largely useless as far as most apps are concerned.

I got the Tab2 because it shipped with ICS, has a back camera and expandable storage. No regrets. I am not in the US so I wouldn't have been able to access all the Google services. Tab2 was a bit less ($10) than the Nexus for me.

You should search. You would see the other five threads asking the same question.

Ha good one. Like I would spend my money on an apple product. Also the nexus tablet is like Two weeks? Two days old. I doubt someone compared it to this but thanks for the negativity downer Dan!

I am very happy with my Tab 2, but in the end I think the i-pad is the better choice: many more tablet apps available.

Like scottx said buy an IPad so you can support sue happy Apple. They need more money so they can block or delay us in getting new non-apple products.
Seriously, I would do a lot of research and find local stores that have various ones on display and take some time to play with them. This is a big purchase for some of us. I kind of rushed into it and am not sure I made the best decision even though I am happy with my Tab 2. I had a Toshiba Excite 10 and it was great also with the exception that there is still not a lot of developers making apps that are compatible or support the Tegra 3 processor. And the fact that there was a glitch in the camera (which is better than the Tab 2) that caused some issues.
Good luck in you search and decision.

Whatever you do.. get something over 8GB ,,,,,,

I'd owned iPad 2 about a year but traded it for Galaxy Tab 2 (5100) so I have experience for both devices.
iPad is absolutely unusable without JailBreak. And you can not guarantee some smart guy will make a jailbreak for new iOs version.
But it is smooth and handy and sweet and yummy. And all girls are yours (if you own Ferrari as well).
SGT2 is scarcely usable with stock Samsung rom. It's sluggish and it lives its own life and doesn't care what exactly you want to get by poking your finger into the screen. Sometimes it may make an exception and mercifully respond to your wishes. May be such an impression comes after iPad since raw android users don't experience anything like that.
Yesterday with help of comrade Endoroid I managed to flash CyanogenMod 9 to my SGT2. And you know what - it is smooth almost like iPad now but you haven't to perform all those Voodoo dance to just put a file on it. So now I have all the mighty might of android swiss knife and smoothness of near of such of Ipad.
As a summary - I would recommend you this device if you can handle flashing a custom rom and don't bother about warranty.

Got my GTab 2 since yesterday. It ran only 1 minute stock (to copy CM9 and gapps on flash) . Now I'm running CM 9 RC2 - CM10 4.1 is in progress by codeworkx. It's so smooth :fingers-crossed: ! Love it! Only thing is, that dock features like audio/hdmi over dock connector aren't supported yet.

I've read in many threads that the build quality of the Nexus 7 is not very good. Asus tried to build it so that it would be easy to tear down and replace parts, and in order to do that, they did not use any glue to hold in the screen. This may been nice for the repair department, but it sucks for the average user constantly getting a loose screen (eventually causing damage to the screen).

Hmm.. and one more thing. It looks like the screen has yet another problem with "ghosting" images.

Oh and also it seems that Tegra 3 chips have a severe "flickering" problem with the display.

There is a hardware problem that affects the flickering in the display. When the brightness level is turned down, the IPS panel is affected when the broadcom WiFi chip receives data. So, if you want to use the internet and turn down the brightness, you will get (from what other people say) severe flickering on the screen. Sounds annoying.

I got myself the galaxy tab 2 and overall well i will say for stock rom it does ok if you are doing light work (surfing,and music) although you do see the screen or tapping of screen lag when you are running more things. However overall rather stable for android os 4.0.3. i think there is an update to 4.0.4 but i guess i will stick with 4.0.3 a while longer before moving on to custom roms.

NO! Don't buy Galaxy Tab 2, I suggest you to buy an Asus Transformer Pad than Gtab 2 because some reasons:
1. It's cheaper
2. It's using NVIDIA Tegra 2 GPU (Transformer) which run graphics very smoothly than Gtab 2 which only powered by PowerVR
3. Asus Transformer's dock is very usable, your tab can transformed into a netbook
4. The dock could extend the battery of the tab up to 6-10 hours as I know
5. The widget and live wallpaper is pretty cool and awesome B)
6. Asus built in apps is very usable too
And the last...
7. It's have good specs for gaming
But I just suggest you and you've still consider which is the best for you

You should install this rom,if you like stock roms. Very nice indeed. Remove the bloatware,install some sort of app that stop apps from starting on their own, and you will see a nice improvement.

Exchange My Nexus 7 for EEE Pad Transformer TF101- Is it worth?

Hey Guys,
I need some help here. So basically i have the all new Google Nexus 7 tablet which has just launched. So I am getting an offer to exchange my Nexus 7 for an ASUS EEE Pad Transformer TF101. I was considering switching but was not able to make the descsion, so i need help from you guys on whether switching/exchanging a Nexus 7 for a TF101 Transformer Is worth it? The Transformer has a Dual Core Tegra 2 while as the Nexus 7 has a Quad core Tegra 3. Other than that the Transformer seems better. It has a larger screen with slightly lower PPI, it has a 5 MP camer + front facing one too. It has 16GB internal + expandable storage(not sure if expandable). Build quality and battery life seems equal on both. So i want to know if the Tegra 2 is well performing on the TF101 and whether it can handle the latest games/apps and whether the TF101 lags?

The Asus Transformer is also worth taking a look coz its is bundled with features....
But finally it depends upon you that what are your needs as If you want to use it for hardcore gaming then obv. Transformer is the one to go with but if you want a pure Google experience and are GOOGLE FAN then you should stay with the Nexus 7 as it has the latest and coolest features....but in the end u r the 1 who has to make the decission as per ur needs... Even running at stock speed, my TF runs all the games I've played smoothly. ....But there are some newer games optimized for Tegra 3. BTW, I have both the TF and Nexus 7, and they're both awesome in their own way.

If it is new or a refurb and not coming from a private/owner seller, I say go for it. You can always buy another Nexus 7 when the price drops. If it is the owner, then maybe you could work out a temporary/trade/try it. If pre-owned does it have any problems. Maybe nothing is wrong and they are just feeling the urge ( you know, that desire for the latest toy). I have noticed that the price for the TF101 has gone up since I bought mine 7 months ago. I will probably buy the N7, due to the urge. But I had better wait for cooler weather. Just paid an electric bill that was over $300
after using a 7', the 10.01" will seem huge in comparison. I have the keyboard dock, it's cool, with the extra battery, USB & SD slot. But I rarely use it, the soft key pad is great.

Actually you should keep the Nexus coz it is new and latest tech by the Android Owner/Developer, so it is a must have tab fr Android geeks as Google has worked hard for putting all those features in such a low rate....and the second reason is that Transformer has become a bit old and isnt the latest technology although it is a good competetor but it is like an old Grand Father with less usability.
....also you will in Starting love the keyboard along but after some time you will see no use of the keyboard....also the keyboard dock after some time becom lose and while carrying both connected it slips(nt personal experience of dock)....well indeed make a good choice which suits you the best....

Even though the n7 is a Google device I will probably never buy any tablet smaller than the 10 inch. Same reason I will never buy a phone bigger than 5 inch. Just my two cents.

It depends on your usage model. I have both the TF and N7, and ever since I got the N7 my TF has mostly stayed turned off. However, I don't plan to get rid of the TF either. I mainly use my tablets for browsing and watching downloaded videos. Browsing on the N7 is smooth and buttery, while on the TF it is reasonably quick but the occasional stutter happens more often and is therefore more irritating. The UI on the TF isn't as smooth, but in my experience apps work flawlessly. Videos, on the other hand, look better on the TF. It's not just the screen size, but the contrast seems better as well. The N7 is also easier to hold/handle due to it's small size.
Let me put it this way, if you primarily browse the web or stream most of your content (or love having the latest and greatest OS), stick with the N7. If you need lots of local storage (or are stuck with slow DSL), want to output content to a TV (I use mine to play emulator games with my PS3 controller), or want the optional convenience of the keyboard and the epic battery life that gives you, trade for the TF.

I would go ahead and probably swap a nexus 7 for an OG transformer.
Simple reason being...SD card support. They both got great screens but transformer is bigger at 10.1 inch. The difference between quad and dual core doesn't really bother me at this point in time. Both got 1 gig of ram also.
You can't really go wrong. I love my transformer still after almost a year. I've no intention of replacing it anytime soon.

I've got both and personally i would stick with the nexus. i really want to love the TF101, the keyboard hybrid is such a great idea but it's been a really frustrating experience - very often laggy as hell (press the recent apps key and wait 5 secs for it to respond!), too many bugs for a device that is now over a year old (crashed launcher, screen locking up, i still occasionally have the device randomly rebooting). the speakers and microphone are also awful, really poor quality.
The nexus really is the best android tablet on the market at the moment in terms of performance. but if screen size/storage space is important then maybe it's worth swapping - but i would consider another android tablet.

well the OG transformer has HDMi out while the nexus 7 doesnt

man, i'll gladly go with a Nexus 7 over my Transformer+dock.
i would rather want the smaller form factor. taking around the Transformer+dock just seems too much like a laptop to me, and without the laptop power.

I own a Galaxy Tab 10.1.. I had the same issues with it as you did. Yes it's a big difference from the N7 but for me it made ALL the difference. Portrait mode is perfect to use and type on and landscape mode is perfect for web browsing.. 10.1 was just too bulky for me.. I always felt burdened by it like I was carrying around a computer monitor and not a convenient and productive piece of technology.
My Tab 10.1 now sits on the shelf as I wait for pershoot to pump out some new CM10 builds for it and I plan to just use it as a media center interface. Meanwhile me, my Nexus S and N7 are attached at the hip

I had a 10" HP Touchpad with CM9 that I really liked, but after using a friend's Nexus 7 for a little while, I decided to sell the Touchpad while they were still selling on eBay fora decent amount and buy a Nexus 7. I have had the Nexus for a couple weeks now and have found I use it a lot more than I did the Touchpad since it is a lot more convenient. Also, now when I pick up my wife's iPad, it feels HUGE and unwieldy!
I have not missed the larger screen at all.

I like the 7" size, as it seems to be a happy medium. It's easy to hold with one hand and read. Its comfortable in landscape mode and much more comfortable for playing games. It's easy to carry and to toss into my purse or a pack. I don't watch movies much but it's a nice personal size for viewing. My other device is a HP touchpad and it feels large and heavy in comparison.

Sold my Galaxy Tab 10.1 16GB WiFi for the money to buy an 8GB Nexus7, and didn't regret it for an instant. It's actually portable, it's ridiculously fast, and while it has a smaller screen than the GTab10.1, it's the same resolution, which results in a much more crisp picture.
We now have two Nexus7's in the house: an 8GB and a 16GB. We'll be adding a 32GB as soon as they start showing up for purchase.

I did captain obvious.
I liked the feel. Just wanted an opinion from someone who spent more than 5 minutes with one. Someone who actually made the switch and has some experience related to the concerns in my description.

Nevermind the GTAB 10.1 had a bug in portrait mode that caused it to lag like hell.. Even their ICS update had it. Samsung really screwed the pooch with the tab 10.1.. It seriously under performed considering it was a dual core tegra 2.

Sold mine as soon as the n7 came out. Hadn't made it to ICS yet. I hear they run VERY well on JellyBean though, especially with all that TouchWiz crap stripped away

I was a hardcore 10 clincher, had four tablets in the 10 inch variety and loved my prime and keyboard. But 7 inches is perfect for almost everything I use a tablet for. In fact since the nexus 7 launched, I got mine before preorders shipped but I dunno the date, I haven't used anything that would be better on a 10 inch screen.

I know alot of people that once they got a 7 ince tab, mainly the Nexus 7, they no longer used/wanted to use, their 10 inch, as it was uncomfortable, heavy and just too big to be portable.
7 inch is the way to go, I personally think 8 inch would be perfect, but 7 inch it is.
GET A N7! TRUST ME

Get a 16 for sure, or wait for the 32.. 8 is just too small

I personally enjoy the size, it works for me immensely. And is super portable.

It's not the size of the tab that's important, but the skill with which you wield it.
I like the 7" and find it very easy to transport. But it is important to give your eye's more "visual breaks" and look arround more. I seem to get more eye fatigue with the 7" if I'm not careful.
So to add another overused phrase to this thread.
Be careful how you handle that 7" tab, you could go blind.

Nexus 10 or TF300

I really like the nexus 10 and I know this forum may be a little bias, but I am debating selling my tf300 with dock for a nexus 10.... thoughts/opinions welcome!

Depends on what you really need. I had the infinity and the nexus 10 is miles ahead of it in my opinion.
300 pros:
-Keyboard dock with extended battery
-Expandable storage
-Insanely fast charging times
Cons:
-Slow I/o
-Rear speaker
-Tegra 3 (if you want to count this..)
Nexus 10 pros:
-Screen
-Battery (not comparing it to the Asus+dock)
-Front speakers
-Insanely fast
Cons:
-Slow battery charging (6 hours on full)
-Some games run slow due to the amount of pixels to push plus not yet optimized for the N10.
-No expandable storage
In the end it boils down to what you need, but I love my N10 and am not sugar coating it in any way. I tried the tf300 first, returned that for a 700. Decided I'd compare it to a note 10.1 and returned both and got the N10.

Define issue with web browsing? Do you mean laginess or sluggidhness? If so the n10 has none. It loads web sites very fast and has no touch or input lag via on screen keyboard.

I'll let you know. I currently use the TF300 (stock), but am annoyed with the sluggishness concerning web browsing, e-mail, etc. My Nexus 10 is coming tomorrow. Hopefully it will be better.
Although I must say that I was reading about the Boat Browser somewhere on these XDA forums, and I had never heard of this browser before. I installed it a couple of days ago and it definitely improves the browsing experience on the TF300. Give it a try.

Yes the laginess or slugginess... it has gotten better since the past few updates, but not what it should be....I am hoping i can get $400 for my 32GB tf300 with keyboard dock and a 16GB micro sd card and bluetooth mouse
I really beleive the nexus 10 is the better device...

Take this for what its worth....I am a geek and have had 5 different tablets over the past few years. The loved my tf101 w dock...I absolutely loved my transformer . I skipped the prime, my tf101 was still rockin....my transformer died and I saved up the money for the infinity tf700 with dock. I absolutely hated it. It was like there was always something slowing it down and it made me think I just had a bad unit. Did some research and found out that after the prime Asus had a bit of an io issue with the memory , the infinity inherited the issue.
Got my nexus on Thursday and I love it like I loved my transformer compared to a gtab ....the difference between the nexus and the infinity are like daylight and dark. I also have to say its really badass having aosp in a perfect state...no cm or akop issues....love cm love akop but you all know what I mean. My point is...I love this tab compared to the infinity...screen is beautiful , proc is next gen, and jb4.2 is smooth as butter on this device...so many little things cleaned up, this may be the best android version yet.

If storage is your main concern, stick with the TF300, or better yet upgrade to the TF700. If it isn't, upgrade to Nexus 10. I came from a TF700 and the difference is staggering. Screen is much nicer, sound is much louder (and stereo placement!!!).
I've also owned the original Transformer, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (still one of best tablet designs hands down), the Prime and only the GT10.1 comes close to the Nexus 10 in terms of build quality (I wonder why ).

I'd recommend the TF300 over the TF700 for a few reasons, and neither over the N10.
Why the TF300 over the 700? It's less expensive, it's far more comfortable to use for long periods thanks to the not-sexy but also not-stupid plastic construction, more resistant to wear and abuse as a result, and it's not trying to whip a Tegra 3 into running 1080p resolution it is not suited for.

I am not concerned about storage at all, just performance and beauty.... I have tried to put my tf300 in the marketplace but don't have rights, anyone know who I need to talk too?

I'm selling my TF300 today on eBay. I put a couple of other TF300s on my watch list just to see what they were going for. It looks like the tablet is going for the low to mid $200's. I don't know about the keyboard as I don't have one so didn't put it on the watch list. Also, if you decide to sell yours before Monday, eBay is doing a deal where if you sell an item through the eBay mobile app, you can sell it for free.
I played with the Nexus 10 for about an hour or so this morning. My initial impressions are that it is very zippy compared to the TF300. I remember first getting the TF300 and turning it on. All my apps starting downloading in the background automatically and while they were downloading and installing, the TF300 got really slow and laggy. With the Nexus 10, it was doing all that downloading and installing in the background and it was still silky smooth.
Overall, it's a much better device. The screen is obviously sharper. It is very quick to switch screens, cycle through apps, etc. If there's any lag, I couldn't perceive it. Browsing with the Boat and Chrome browsers is definitely zippier. When you scroll down a page, especially one with pictures, you can tell it just scrolls much more smoothly. I never saw that annoying "waiting for the browser to respond" which I normally saw at least once or twice per hour on the TF300. Anyway, that's all I've really done with it. I only use it for browsing and e-mail (I don't game on tablets), and for those purposes it is definitely a nicer, smoother machine than the TF300- which should be expected for its price and the advance in technology over the older device.

Stay away from Asus and the Transformer line. I'm telling you. They don't know how to write software, and they don't support their devices. I gladly sold my TF201 for the N10 and it was the best decision I've made. You've been warned.

I had the TF700 and was very disappointed. The i/o power just wasn't there. Most noticeable on web browsing - major lag. I sold it and so far I am quite happy with the Nexus 10 performance.

I had a TF700T / Infinity for close to 2 months -- just returned it this morning to Best Buy (reward zone silver -- 60 days to decide). I went back and forth on this a lot before returning it. My Infinity and dock didn't have any of the build issues that some have described -- no creaking, no screen lift, etc. The overall build seemed excellent, and overall the Infinity looks and feels like an incredible premium device. I also really liked the expandable storage and the extra battery power in the dock, and it really has a great display. When it worked, it was sweet -- but I ran into frequent lags, browser freeze-ups, slow app updates and file transfers, etc. I knew it was possible to unlock, root and flash a custom ROM to get better performance -- but I really didn't want to HAVE to do that just to make the device usable, especially since the combination of tablet and dock cost me about $650.
Reading through the TF700 sub forums, it seemed that about half the users had good experience using NvFlash and custom ROMs, but a significant number of folks reported frozen devices, boot loops, etc -- more than I'm used to seeing in most XDA sub forums. It seems to me that the device really wasn't intended to be easily flashable -- and easily recoverable in the event of issues. If I'm going to be flashing custom ROMs to my tablet, I'd rather it be a device sold with this in mind. Having used a Nexus phone (Galaxy Nexus) for the past year, I can attest to the fact that it's virtually impossible to brick this beyond the ability to wipe and start over. I appreciate this about Nexus devices.
I wish the Nexus 10 had expandable memory, and it would be nice if a pogo pin based charger option would be sold soon. Despite this, everything I read convinced me to return my Infinity today and order a Nexus 10.

Well it seems pretty unanimous for the nexus 10, as expected!!! I took the first steps and sold my tf300, now just trying to sell the keyboard dock. I am stoked about getting the nexus 10. Cant wait for it to be back in stock... thanks again for all the great info and personal experience!

Returning to best buy.. want to restore stock.

Got my note and rooted it in less than 30 min and now I think I'm exchanging it for an Asus that is giving me a good deal. I noticed my firmware is li3.. I have n8013.. where can I find the Odin firmware.. I've only found the lh2.. or does it not matter? Has anyone been successful returning it back to stock with untripped counter? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

So I can get a tf300 for 300 dollars right now.. do u think its a bad decision over this note.. I love everything about the note but the screen kills it.. and for 150 dollars less the Asus seems to be the better deal. Anybody want to give me some opinions on this. Still trying to make up my mind. Its really tough.

Wait, the tf300 has about the same size screen as the 10.1 (1280x800). If you want the 1920x1200 screen you need to get the tf700 infinity.

Yes it has the same but its 150 dollars back in my pocket..I'm a lil bummed that there are others tablets for the same price with much better resolution. I have a note 2.. and things look better on it than the 10.1... basically I just want some Input on whether its better to save 150 and go with Asus or stick with the 10.1..

I have the tf300 and when I got the note 10.1 it was not a contest. The note is obviously more responsive. The tf300 has a couple of good roms available and Asus is the best with updates. But I keep the note with me and the wife has the tf300. It might not be that big of an issue to you since you have note II.

The note is way better than the ASUS tf300. The software and interface is better. The Note is faster and more responsive. I chose the Note over the tf700 for the same reason. I owned a Transformer tf101 for the last year and have played with the 300 and 700 extensively. Once I started playing with the Note it was over. I think the screen is quite nice, definitely better than tf101. II've only owned the Note for 2 days but I've been very impressed so far.

The note is by far the best. I had tf201 and tf700. Played with the 300 and it felt like a prime with better Wi-Fi. The note however beats them all hands down all around the block. Sure Asus updates quicker but they feel slower and stutter more. Not to mention you can kiss your warranty goodbye for Asus for custom roms.
Bottom line stick with the note.

I don't know why people are impressed with lots of updates....
Seems to me that someone who updates continuously is doing so because there are major problems with their OS... Look at windows, updates for vista were made everyday but with windows seven there are a lot less.
Just because updates are pushed by Asus doesn't mean its a better tablet, just that it is probably buggier and they're trying to play catchup...
The Note 10.1, though not perfect, was a very stable tablet from the day I powered it up for the first time. JB may be a long time coming but at least it should be a good, stable rom that is pushed out.

Is the note really worth the $450 even if you have no plans on using the s pen.
I played with one for a couple of minutes in bestbuy on Wednesday but couldn't get over the price point especially since i don't see myself using the s pen, worse now that the tf300 is $300 for the 32gb model.
My biggest need is a really good, quick, responsive web browsing experience. It seems like the tegra 3 is not equipped to offer me what I need but im not sure if the exynos can handle it either.

I agree. But this is not why I'm considering it. Apart from the pen and touchwiz I feel like its about the same. Sure less ram but for 300 dollars it seams like a no brainer value. The note is quick I'll give it that and I'm starting to like it more and more but at times I feel like my note 2 has so much more to offer with the s pen, multiwindow jelly bean out the box. I thought the note 10 would be just as good. I can't even hover scroll with the pen like I do with the pen on the note 2.. the screen does look good but I would expect more from the price. I'll prob end up keeping this thing anyways tho.. hearing a lot of negatives about the Asus line. Even tho it seems just as good.

It really comes down to how you use your tablet IMHO. I want to use my tablet like a notebook with a pen and paper like interface, so for me the Note 10.1 was the best fit. The price difference was a factor at first when I was deciding between a tf300,tf700,nexus 10 and Note 10.1. But in the end, the most important thing for me was the user interface on how i used the device. The S-Pen and the applications like S-note, were exactly how I wanted to use a tablet device, so the price difference and even the screen resolution didn't matter nearly as much. I'd say look at how you are planning on using the device, and decide based on that first. Price is a factor but if you save 150 but don't use the device as much because you lost important features you didn't realize were important to you, then the savings weren't worth it IMHO.

I owned the tf300 for three weeks. It was purchased from BB for $269, 16G version. The tf300 was returned to BB and I pickup a note 10.1 for $459. Much more than I wanted to pay but this tablet is great.

I didn't have any problems with the bootloader unlock tool by Asus but many others did. If price is an issue then consider the nexus 10 over the tf300. Some of the issues with the tf300 have been fixed because simple tasks like downloading apps would cripple the tablet and cause the play store to force close. A few updates and a move to "Clean Rom" had everything running smooth. You wont be blown away with the note 10.1 because you have the note 2.

I have both the note 2 and the 3g note 10.1 with the jelly bean update. I love the 10.1 because it has not given me any major issues with regards to crashing etc it is super smooth with the quad core and 2gigs of Ram. Yes the display may not be as good as the newer transformers but everything else is much better in my opinion.
With the jelly bean update, it is as good as the note 2 because it contains all of its features but on a larger screen which is far more practical for professional use such as taking notes at meetings etc. The multitasking is also more meaningful on a 10.1 unless you are using the smart dock for the note 2 or connecting via an mhl cable to a larger display.
I have no regrets having both devices. If price is one of the biggest factors for you then go for the Asus otherwise stick to the note and you will not regret this decision. A number of people think initially that the pen is not going to be used that often but after putting it to practical use, they soon change their opinion about it.
I have come from the original transformer so do not notice or mind a reduction in display quality as the notes one is more than adequate and if I want true hd quality, I just connect it to a TV or projector with hd via an mhl lead or the all share cast dongle.

You get what you pay for. As someone said above, the TF300 is a de-contented Prime with better wireless which makes it over a year old both in design and components. The Note supports 5GHz dual-channel Wi-Fi with channel bonding (like the newest iPad), has BT 4.0 (the TF300 is 2.0 and the TF700 3.0), dual-channel RAM, 2GB of RAM (vs. 1GB), Glonass support for location services, two forward facing speakers, a flash for the rear camera, and a larger battery.
You specifically mentioned web browsing. All Asus tablets suffer from IO issues caused by their choice of storage solution. When there are background processes running the browser and UI can become almost unusable. There are hacks available to make things better but the device needs to be unlocked and that voids your warranty. Adding $100 for SquareTrade (unless you don't care about a warranty) puts the two devices closer in price. And multiview, even without S Pen, is a really cool feature in a 10” device.
Here's a component comparison between the TF700 (a "better" device than the TF300) and the Note. If there's a corner that can be cut, Asus will cut it. You'd be better off picking up a used Note or N10 off of eBay or CL to stay in your price range than buying a year-old new TF300.
