[Q] Deleting "Bloatware" - Galaxy S III General

Hello,
I am new to the XDA developer forums so forgive me if i have put this in the wrong part of the forum. I have looked around and thought this was the best place to put this.
I was wondering is there any way of deleting bloatware from the Galaxy s3 GT-I9300 besides rooting? i have been through the applications manager, and used the "All in one toolkit" app. But as far as i could see it would only let me delete certain applications. I have looked into rooting but i am still sitting on the fence whether or not i want to do it as i wouldnt like to end up messing it up and not being able to fix it.
All help is much appreciated and again sorry to moderators/admins if i have put this in the wrong section.

This should have been in the Q&A forum.
To answer your question, the bloatwares are system apps and to access system files you will have to root your device. Your call, mate.

[Q] How do you remove preinstalled apps on a MyTouch 4G

First, I did search for the above question and got no hits. Which is a puzzle, but there you are.
Anyway, there are tons of useless clutter apps in my myTouch 4G apps folder, none of which can be removed by dragging to the trash can.
If anyone can point me to a way to delete them I would be most appreciative.
Tom
Root it.. then use titanium backup.

Thanks for the reply, but as you may have guessed, I am new at this, thus "root it" does not mean a lot to me.
By the way, saying "root it" to a bunch of Aussies might get you a few laughs in mixed company.
If you can direct me to any site or method with step-by-step procedures it would be a big help.
Tom
This is the easiest way
http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/10/how-to-temporarily-root-the-t-mobile-mytouch-4g-htc-glacier/
And titanium backup doesn't truly delete apps.
This method will tell you how
http://jaxov.com/2010/09/how-to-remove-stock-default-android-apps-easily/
But deleting the wrong thing will handicap the phone.

i dont know why ppl just dont search the forums first...wow.
Rooting gives you a level of permissions that allow you to modify system files and play around with things in non-userspace. Relevant threads will have moer info on that, or you can peruse the Wiki (link up top).
Regarding the preinstalled apps, my advice is not to even bother deleting them. It's not entirely trivial to figure out what the phone needs to run, and you might find out later that something you removed all of a sudden is necessary again. Also, the stock ROM has frameworks and stuff installed by HTC that you can't get rid of anyway. I think it's much much easier to install a custom ROM that has all that stuff removed right from the start.
We call those apps "bloatware", I can't believe none of you told him this yet..... grankins post for s-off(he has two save the ultimate for if your having troubles) is the most affective, use his alternate method midway through his OP.

The reason i didn't mention the Ultimate Guide was he asked for the easiest method. That is not per-say the easiest method. But i know it's the most effective method.
I didn't suggest ultimate either, it was for a backup plan if no success..... I refuse to use gfree, as I have no need for it.

Thanks neidlinger, jdkoren and Mrdaviso for taking the time to help a newbie.
Now that I know the proper terminology, searching will be more effective too.

That is an option of course, but it even has several games installed as well as Amazon mp3 stores, Yahoo mail, Yahoo messenger, Rock Band, and other crapware I'll never use.
It is pretty unbelievable that T-mobile will not allow those things to be deleted (hence my original question).
Tom
I would root it, then install a custom ROM. 3 weeks ago I had no idea what root was either, but with the step by step walk through, I was able to do it with no issues. The development section will help you with basically everything you are trying to do.
This should help too....

Can I make a duplicate app?

I have a themed facebook app, and I want to have the official one to do something since it is a little hard to see things with this theme. The apps are seen to be the same by the phone.
Is there a way I can have both apps installed at the same time? If I renamed the current app would it still work? Or what if I made one a system app?
Come on guys: nobody?
Going to bump this again
I kinda need this answered. Can anyone help?
I think it's time to go looking somewhere else for this. Have you tried the android software general forum? This question isn't specific to the DX. Or you could just TRY it and let us know what happens...

Seeing as I did try it, and said so in the op (how else would I know they are seen as the same app?) I'm not sure where you're going with that. Also, admin or not, posting unhelpful is worse than not posting at all

I thought he was being helpful. If you post this question in the General section for ALL Android apps (again, this is not specific to our phone), there would be a larger group of people viewing the question. And I think when he said to try it, he already knew you tried installing both. But have you tried your own suggestion by renaming or making one a system app?
Not trying to be a smartass, just giving my interpretation on mrkite's post. I hope you find your answer, though!

The system app way still wouldn't work because android would still recognize them as the same app so it would not work

i know what i want now. i rooted my phone so how about some suggestion
best way to backup phone
what are your most used apps would like to try some you use
i looked but cant find in setting menu how to make the ringtone play normal
- Get CWM backup, to full backup your device, if you have used ghost/acronis for your PC, it is just like that. another is titanium backup, My backup Pro
- Its depends on your taste, As i always have >100 non stock app on my device, difficult to say which one you like, just search market for different category
- I don't understand your question, but i guess you saying about ascending ring tone??
if yes, there are some mods/ROM available to disacble it. find in development section.
You dont need to root your Note to make it better. It is perfect as it is. Dont listen to these guys wanting you to root unles that is what you want of course
You are already late m8
If you had carefully read 2 post above yours, you cud find, he has already rooted.

Sorry friend. My bad.

[Q] First steps with a new Nexus 7

So, finally my nexus 7 will be delivered on Tuesday. I'm neither new to android, nor to the world of nexus (Nexus S), but I don't have any experience with this piece of hardware. My first step will be rooting it, but are there any must-do things? Like on Nexus S Voodoo, NStools, etc. I know, there is no voodoo sound for nexus 7 (sigh...). I consider myself a poweruser, flashing, adb won't frighten me, so pretty much every customization is interesting for me which can give me even better user experience.
Thanks, and I'm very excited to be part of the n7 community!
Recommend app is pimp my ROM, also Nova Launcher by far and away better than stock

Spend some time reading and searching, start with the stickies. Post to an existing related thread rather than start a new one for the same thing. :good:
Might I suggest a ROM? I have had my N7 since July 20 and this is the best I have found.
It has KingBeatZ and flash built in.
Enjoy your new device.

I'm using Nova since its beta version, wouldn't use anything else.
When I read 'pimp my rom', i thought you were joking, never even heard of it, but most definitely will try on my Nexus S before the n7 arrives.

Seems interesting, I'm sure that stock ROM won't stay for long, first to try will be this!

I don't understand why does it annoy You. I was looking for some advice to have a nice and easy start with the n7, wasn't posting stupid things to the development section. I thought general section is a good place for it, to spare me few hours of reading, if anyone cares to answer at all. I already got some nice suggestion how to start, and thank you for that.
If this thread hurts anyone in any way, let it closed or moved by a moderator.
Not one nexus s general threads were opened only to say farewell, when they sell their phones to get an other one, i don't see how is my thread any worse than those.
Look at using wugfresh toolkit 1.6.2, its well explained, can view it on YouTube. That will root, unlock and install a great very easy to use recovery image twrp. just a matter of flashing roms/kernels from recovery, easy peasy. Don't forget to take nandroid backups, titaniuim backup for apps backups is the best by far.
Take a look at the following to greatly enhance sound (which is dodgy with stock)

Right there is the problem. No one is paid to be here and no one is here to "spare you a few hours of reading." This is a self-service forum, not a help desk. Drop the entitlement attitude and do your own work. Most everything you need to know is in here, and if it isn't THEN ask. Is that too hard to understand? It's not whether the thread "hurts anyone in any way," it's about not clogging the forum with threads that can be answered by you doing a little work on your own. You said you weren't a noob, so you should know that this is how XDA operates.

I will stop here, and won't answer to that, or it'll never end.
Some did actually help, others shouldn't waste their time answering me. I was politely asking for suggestions, because it's worked that way on nexus s threads. Someone had a question, others answered, even if it was about rooting or flashing, which has been covered million times. If there was a thread about the same problem, we posted the link to there, he got help, moderators closed the thread. I searched and didn't find the right thread to ask my Q, so I opened one. I didn't mean any trouble, and also some people actually answered. I was excited to get my n7, and wanted to know more about it, now I'm discouraged.

Should I root my S4? Looking for advice

Ok so this S4 is pretty much the first real smart phone I've ever owned. I've often heard that rooting a device is a great way to go for an android phone. Now could someone explain exactly what rooting it does? It is supposed to basically format the phone and install a stock android OS, right? It will get rid of all the bloatware from Samsung/AT&T?
Are there any disadvantages to rooting it? Am I in any danger of my phone losing functionality? Will I still be able to use all the same settings like the eye detection, or the motion gestures, and the camera will still be the same?
Root is like admin access in Windows. It will not format your phone if you root. It also voids the warranty.
There's tons of info out there about the pros and cons of rooting. When I got my Captivate all I did was read because most of the time... The question i wanted to ask had already been answered. Read as much as you can on here and Google. It will help a lot.

I've read up on it a bit, but not a whole lot. Honestly the main reason I was hoping to root is to free up some space. Do you know approximately how much space I would have if I rooted my S4? Currently have about 8 out of 16 GB being used by the OS/Software
You've got a lot of reading to do. And when you think you've read enough, read some more.

Your free space depends on how many (and the size) of the apps you remove. It's not like you're going to get root then more space just appears.
I can't find the other thread, but here's a good place to start on what apps on be removed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2254143
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING... read. With root access you can really screw up your phone if you don't know what you're doing or what you're removing.
