Out of all the problems I've read about the nexus 10, nothing annoys me more than this. In my experience, there is a very slight buzzing when the tablet is not charging, but when it is charging, the buzz is very annoying. Also the buzzing changes tone when the CPU (GPU?) is working such as when scrolling through webpages or home screens. Just my observations/two cents.

Same here, but only buzzes when it's plugged to the charger... :
Yes i buzzyness still exist when im not charging . andas you describe when the tablet does work, the buzz becomes more.. Annoying like sheeht

Not sure if this is the problem or if this possible solution works...
But, I have had a HP Laptop docking station that buzzes through external speakers, specifically, when I plug the docking station audio out to my monitor's audio in. Get's louder/changes frequency when cpu is under load.
After some research, I determined that I needed a ground loop isolator between the dock and monitor. I bought one for $6 off ebay and it immediately solved the problem. These are available as iPod ground loop isolators for car radio application.

[Q] Does charging with Pogo Plug cause headphone humming sound
I posted this test for owners of the pogo plug but no one performed the test.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37141085&postcount=484
If the microUSB charging hum was eliminated or almost eliminated by using a pogo plug to charge then it would go a long way to justifying the additional cost.
Just my two cents.
I just noticed that the buzzing only appears when i have the otg cable connected and i hear it alot when im watching a movie from my usb stick , so i guess i will hear a buzz when im connected to the charger through the micro usb port.
Is this a common problem for all nexus 10 tablets or is it a few selected tablets with this problem? I could send it back and request a new tablet from the company i purchaced it from . is it worth it?

Thread: Humming sound when charging with headphones connected
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001668
The Nexus 10 headphone audio noise problem confirmed
I have experienced the noise problem in the headphone output in three of three Nexus 10 tablets I've had.
I received my first Nexus 10 two days after they went on sale in November. On the first evening after receiving it I noticed the noise, present only when the tablet was operating from the supplied micro-USB charger. After a few days I decided to call Google Devices support to ask for a replacement tablet.
They told me that they had not heard of this problem before, but they promptly sent out a Nexus 10 replacement, which I received a couple of days later. When I first checked the replacement tablet, it didn't seem to have the problem. But later that day after charging the tablet completely, the same noise was present in the headphone audio when running on the charger.
A person in another forum reported a similar problem and noted that this headphone audio noise problem seems to be present only when running from the supplied charge and when the internal battery is more than about 80% charged. This was a noteworthy observation and seems to explain my experiences.
I called Google Devices Support back to mention that the replacement tablet had the same problem and that I hoped they'd start looking at this as a design problem. They listened politely and thanked me for reporting the issue.
In spite of the audio noise issue, I later purchase another Nexus 10 tablet for my wife. This was about a month ago. Not surprisingly, her Nexus 10 has exactly the same headphone audio noise issue, but only when the internal battery is mostly charged.
Suffice it to say, this headphone audio noise problem sure seems to be a design issue common to all of the Nexus 10s. In my random sampling of three tablets, they all had the same problem.
Perhaps one of the major tech websites that has previously reviewed the Nexus 10 needs to publish a follow-up review exposing this product defect so that it gets some attention from Google/Samsung. :
Just a thought.
Ok, I have noticed a few points that could help you people to discover whether you have the same issue or not:
* The buzzing only appears when charging on the micro USB with earphones connected and the BATTERY ABOVE OR EQUAL TO 95%.
* The noise varies with the activity of our nexus, for example, it is higher when I touch the screen.
* The noise varies with the screen brightness. The brighter, the lower the noise.
* The noise grows with the battery charge, this is, it's more annoying at 100% than at 95%.
I think that's pretty much what I discovered.

}
If you see this charging trace, the battery charges faster from 0 to 95%, and then automatically slows down until it's fully charged, this makes the battery charge properly and lengthens its life. This could be the reason for the noise appearing only at high charging rates.
Can you guys confirm these points?
Hope this clears a bit if it's a common issue on all nexus 10 or just some of them...

Does anyone have any experience of using external battery packs with the N4?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TeckNet®-Ex...JZ62/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1359805415&sr=8-6
Looking at buying this one but not sure if it will work with both my N4 and Galaxy Tab 2 or should I buy a Anker Slimtalk.
I bought the largest capacity anker I could through Amazon and it is amazing. It has 2x usb ports, one for 3A and one for 1.5A. This means you can charge any device basically. If you plug in two devices to charge at the same time they will both charge at 1.5A. With the nexus 4 I can charge it >5 times before the battery pack is dead.
---------- Post added at 12:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:58 AM ----------
So I just looked for you. Here's what I bought... [New Version in Nov] Anker® Astro3E 10000mAh Dual 5V 3A USB Output External Battery Pack
Another great thing about this charger is that the cable you use to charge the phone doubles as the cable to charge the battery pack. Saves you carrying around extra crap.

I have used the anker astro slim for about a year previously on sensation 4g now on my Nexus 4. Its great becuase I can plug it in and slip it into my pocket with the Nexus 4. It is easily stored in my car for on the go use and provides just over 1 full charge if I don't use the phone while it charges.

With that being said I would not purchase it becuase the astro slim2 is supposed to be coming out which has an upgraded 4500mah battery over the 3200mah and is 10mm thick.

I Would definitely suggest getting branded items here, the unbranded stuff from dodgy websites usually don't match the rated capacity. When travelling with the n4 (especially on long flights with stop overs etc, or if you're backpacking), it can be a lifesaver.
Great tip! That slim2 definitely caught my attention.

I bought a mophie juice pack power station before a trip I went on in late August. The one I purchased is 2500mah. I believe they make bigger and smaller ones though. It's roughly the size of half a deck of cards.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I absolutely love it. It's slim, quick to charge and has a battery gauge on the side so you can see how much battery it has left.

cheers. just bought one of these myself on your recommendation (amazon uk 25.99, free shipping).
i already have a 7000mah tecknet which i'm very happy with but this one with its 3A output should enable me to charge my playbook + n4 simultaneously.
Any word on when that'll be released? Where did that rumor come from?
I bought these when they were on sale before Christmas:

They are still on sale, for a bit more than I paid, but I highly recommend this. You can charge two things at once.

I've been using the Astro Slim for about a year as well and would highly recommend it too, but glad to see they are releasing a new model. I might have to give my current one away to a friend as a gift and upgrade when they release it, as more capacity is always nice!
Although you can find equal quality chargers with higher capacity for the same price, I had another brand previously and had to keep a usb cable with it. The Astro brand has the cable built in and it is MUCH more convenient (and less bulky!).
@nba thanks for the heads up on the slim2, i bought my friend a slim for christmas and he loves it, think I'll get the slim2 when its out
does anyone know when the slim2 is being released?
Concur with the others. I've got an Anker 10k mah one from amazon canada (amazon US wouldn't ship for some reason). I love it for these reasons:
1. nexus 4 has a non-replacable battery.
2. I own a number of devices that charge through USB port and carry them around including kindle and bluetooth keyboard.
3. If I go out to a bar or whatever at the end of the day, I don't want to leave my phone plugged in far away from me. That's how **** gets stolen. It's easy enough to plug the phone in and keep it in my pocket.
4. I opted for the bigger and bulkier 10k cause I knew 2 things - great for traveling and I knew that my friends would want to plug their phones in, too. And, yes, inevitably, when I pull out my phone, they ask wtf is that brick and I explain it and then they wanna charge their phones cause it's the end of the day and we're hanging out in a bar or wherever without nearby power.
I've been using an Anker Slim Talk 3200mAh. It charges at .6 A, and has a built in micro USB port.
$24 on Amazon.

PowerSkin Pop'n
In case anyone was interested in one of these, I received a PowerSkin Pop'n today. It's somewhere between an ordinary external battery back and a battery case since it's designed to be attached to the phone. It attaches to the back of the Nexus 4 using suction cups. I had initially assumed that the battery would block the camera, but it seems to only partially obscure the LED flash when attached, and it's possible to manually adjust the battery down a little bit further. The battery cannot be connected if the official bumper is being used.
The battery is rated at 2000 maH capacity, so it's not a particularly high capacity battery. I also wouldn't describe it as a budget item, it cost me $63. As has been noted in other professional reviews, the glossy surface of the battery prominently displays fingerprints.
I just finally got my phone to die after a lot of use from 10 hours of music, 3 hours of web browsing/facebook, 1 hour of modern combat 4, and a crap load of texting and calls. Well when i plugged it in its charging really fast. I seem to get about 5-8% per minute. is something off or is this just really quick at charging.
EditL ok it took about 30 minutes to a full charge.....
The Samsung charger that comes with the phone has a new chip that charges the phone at 2A so it will be quicker. If you use a different cord it'll go back to being slow.
Yeah I absolutely love this charger. Quickest charge ever.

It's the new Qualcomm Quick Charge technology.

the tricky thing is you also have to use the USB cord they provided as well...the old usb cord in the new 2A adapter won't work
if you notice, it is thicker to handle the extra charge

I'm going to run a few tests using other cords (monoprice, belkin, and a couple others and I will update this thread in a couple days with the amp charge. My hypothesis is that the monoprice cables with a thicker wire gauge will be able to handle the charge but until I run proper tests I won't know.
Oh a question I had for any owners is if anyone's galaxy is getting super hot when charging?

Are you guys sure about this? Qualcomm's site says it's their integrated chipset that facilitates the quick charge, not the cables.
Quick Charge 1.0 makes all this is available to the user with existing USB charging accessories—no new cables and wall chargers to buy.
Quick Charge 1.0 is offered to our customers as an integrated solution (as part of the PMIC, or power management integrated circuit) and
a standalone solution that interfaces to the USB connector. Any phone or tablet’s charging port can be enabled with Quick Charge.

It's the chipset working in combination with a compatible charger. Using a regular charger will work, but charge times will be longer. The "cables" don't have anything to do with it actually. Has anybody noticed that if you have the screen on, the battery charges extremely slowly.
I've noticed that w the screen on using gsam, the battery is only being charged at 500mah whereas if the screen is off, it is being charged at 2200mah.
I get it that the phone will charge slower w the screen on, but it shouldn't be this bad.
Here's a screenshot, you can see that I started charging a little before 4pm and after 50 min it only charged aroudn 10%.
Once I turn the screen off it will start charging very fast. But it shouldn't be charging this slowly w the screen on.

Last night (the first time I charged it) my battery did not charge at all when the screen was on. It was a straight flat line. I was using the stock charger, and the lock.screen showed it was in rapid charge. It was perplexing.
I did not experience this today when I charged it.
So today when u had the screen on, the battery was being charged quickly?
Can u install gsam battery monitor and check your mah?
I want to know whether my phone or charger is defective or is it normal.
I've noticed the same thing. Battery was down to 15% when I got off work yesterday. I left the screen on, plugged it into my car (which should be a rapid charge), and streamed some youtube videos via Bluetooth.
Got home 45 mins later and the phone had charged to 18%
Thanks I can't believe none of the reviews mentioned this.
This is a deal breaker for me. I use my phone all the time plugged in. If it's barely charging then that's not acceptable.
So I let my phone charge for 30min w the screen off and it charged 55%, which is great but I need it to charge faster w the screen on.
This was the exact reason I returned my g4 back when it was new. Hardly anyone else seemed to have an issue with this, but I use it in my car all the time so it was a huge deal to me. Maybe it's the 808? I wonder if the 6p has the same problem since it's a different soc
I hope the 6p doesn't have this issue because if it does I'm switching to the iPhone.
It's inexcusable that Google would let something like this get past qa.

If you're gaming then the phone is thermal throttling, if you're throttling then the phone will slow down charge speeds to protect the battery. That sounds like normal operation to me.
No one likes to hear this but you honestly shouldn't be gaming while charging the battery as high heat while charging degrades it. Situations like gaming or GPS navigation in a hot car can be some of the hottest scenarios for a phone.
Lastly, the faster a phone charges the more heat it produces. I've instantly noticed how plugging in a 5x it heats up much quicker and faster than the N5 because it is charging up to 3000mA per second. LG and Google both know that faster charging is already degrading the battery faster (a trade of between speed and longevity) and have more than likely put in safety precautions to protect it from heat exposure during that time.
You can hear it directly from Google as well:
Battery lifespan, charging & usage tips
2. Keep it cool
Avoid situations where your device can overheat. Your battery will drain much faster when it's hot, even if you're not using it, and this can even damage your battery. Bear in mind that your device warms up when it's plugged in, so try not to keep it charging all the time.

OK briefly tried out this. I turned off wifi and plugged in Nx, started up Order and Chaos 2(which will drain my N10 pretty quick and charger just slows down the drain). I played for 2-3 mins and I charged from 91-95%. I don't think that Netflix (which I stream on way home from work) will be more intensive.
I have been driving and charging, while streaming, for years. Personally don't think I have hurt any of my phones. Although I am no expert so who knows.
You drive and stream Netflix???

I usually drive when I'm driving.
I was dumb enough not to check for it prior to placing order, silly me, after note 7 fiasco I needed a phone fast .
But shame on you Google and HTC for not including it in 2016.

You'll find allot of users don't care including myself. It's. Nice to put your phone down and have it charge but it's just too slow.
Hmm, take an extra 2 seconds to plug in and fully charge in an hour or go wireless and wait...and wait...and wait...

My note 7 was charging very quick, come to think, my wife's s7 is charging great wirelessly too. I think it depends on the charger you have.

This thing works very well and charges very fast.

You are aware wireless charging receivers are available for type-c. The cost is about $11 US if it is that important to you.

It's still over two hours. $69 for saving 2 seconds and still taking over twice as long. Not a priority for me.

You can buy a lot of fast chargers for $20. Also it's about the freedom the function provides. I can grab it from my desk wireless charger and go. Come back and do it all over. Plugging into a cord 30 times a day is annoying. Also those usb-c wireless adapters are very slow

After having note 5, note 7, and my wife with s7, I can mostly agree, but also respect and understand the "having wireless chargers at work, home, on the end table, etc to just top off all the time."
It turned out for me that I only really used wireless charging for the "time to roll over and go to sleep" and I'd just plop it on the charger... But honestly, I really don't miss it. For any random top offs, I still chose faster wire charging, or the Samsung 5,200 mAh fast charging battery pack (I hacew two and they're awesome. About the size of the note 7).

Not a priority at all here. If it had it probably wouldn't use it at all (why spend more on what everyone is saying a high dollar phone and I still will have to plug the wireless unit in), have no issues using that same plug, hooking up my phone by cord and getting a super fast charge.
My Pixel XL cost me $1300 CAN and I can not spend that much money without doing a little research.
I did know the Pixel XL did not support Qi Charging, annoying but not something I can live without.
Used to leave my Nexus 6 on one, at work.
What do I care if it was slow, the device was always charged.
I like the feel of the Pixel XL the material metal does not support wireless charging.
I like USB-C in that if it is dark I never have to worry about trying to insert the connector upside down.
I like the battery life of the Pixel XL, often at the end of the day I still have 50% battery life, I charge it less
I agree with the OP here...
It's easy to say "just take 2 secs to plug it in"
and... "wireless charging is so slow"
But I was on a Note 7, and had invested in "fast wireless chargers" and frankly it was pretty fast.
Probably about 75% as fast as the qualcom fast charging through cable.
Also the stands were convenient for my desk at work (has it propped up for youtube viewing or whatever if I am doing that)
I even got a wireless charging pad for in my car, drop my phone in this little area and it was charging, no need to unplug for when I want to pick it up and do stuff or talk
(yeah I still prefer talking on my phone, not over bluetooth.... plugging and unplugging while driving is dangerous AF).
Fact of the matter is, when Apple "invents" wireless charging next year - android is going to look silly for having been dropping it as of late.
AND the glass panel on the pixel should have provided the PERFECT opportunity to implement it.
I already bought a usb-c receiver to tuck behind a case. (although the good cases that I like seem to be clear.... need to hide the look of the receiver lol).. we'll see how good that works.
Wireless charging kills the battery sooner, sucks in a nonremovable battery. They want to avoid over heating the device a much as possible. Rapid charging wireless is even harsher.
They even throttled how fast the pixel coukd fast charge..
And with that 15-18w fast charging is alot quick imho than wireless..
But if you like wureless and have to have it because you have lots of pads.. You can use the adapters..
I like plugging into my fast chargers, especially the car ones.

Hey it's not waterproof either, it's only got one front facing selfie cam, it's only got one rear facing Cam and it's only 12 megapixel... No OIS. No second screen. Assistant can't do many things yet. Buttons rattle.
Tgsp dont fit or halo..
Its 2016 and its from Google.. Youd expect more right?
You can still sort of get wireless charging with the Pixel/XL.

I did search through the forums and didn't find anything that applied to the issue I'm having. I bought a 6P off Ebay for a good price, but it didn't come with any accessories. I don't have a C-C wall charger, but I did buy what I thought was a decent one with a C-C cable for my car. The charger is made by Satechi, and the cable is made by Belkin. They both specifically say on the box that they support fast charging, the cable up to 60W, the charger up to 36W. When I tried multiple amp monitors on my phone it only said that it was hooked up to a 1500mA charger. Plugged it into my USB battery pack which has a 2.4A port, same thing. Now, in my experience with computer hardware most of my hardware problems are generally software problems, and I'm wondering if installing Lineage on this thing has eliminated my ability for fast charging. I've done lots of searching (my Google-Fu is terrible) and there's no real mention on if fast charging is up to the hardware or software. Does anyone else have some experience with this and can maybe guide me through some things I can look at?
I know that ampère (app) says Max 1500mah too when I'm connected to my stock charger, but the charge rate goes well over 1500 mah (around 2500-2800 or something). After hitting 60% or something it slows down. I also know that lineage os on the nexus 5 says "charging slowly" on the lock screen, while the charge rate is normal.

I had a similar thought so I drained it to about 25% and then charged it back up. Fastest charging rate I saw was 1250mA.

It's hard to say whether the app, charger or cable is letting you down here. The 6P charging cycle has many steps and it will only pull maximum current from empty to about 30%. Next time you discharge the phone, pull it down to the single digits and then check current again. My stock charger will put out 2.7+ amps when the phone is fully discharged. (I used Accubattery). What you should also know is that the phone will continue to charge for 45 minutes or longer even when the phone says 100%. If you are interested, you can read more in an early Anandtech article. Scroll down to the "Charge Time" paragraph/graph. There is a lot of misinformation around the USB-C standard, and ton of crappy chargers and cables that do not meet the USB-C standard or make claims that independent testing does not back up. A Google engineer named Bensen Leung has been lab testing cables and chargers to try and provide some clarity. For car chargers, he currently favors the Nekteck 5.4A . Lastly, there is much more discussion on chargers and cables in the Accessories sub-forum.

Well, I tried it with the app you mentioned and it said (at 9%) at I averaged a 1350 mA charging current. I almost need to find a charger belonging to someone else that works on their own Nexus and then try it on this one.
@Caboose27
Good you tried a different app to rule out a particular app. My guess is that one of your components is not living up to it's claims. Look for Benson Leung approved cables/chargers and you won't be disappointed. Have a look through the Accessories sub-forum to find good stuff tested and endorsed by other folks. Good luck to you, and welcome to the exceptional Community of the N6P. You chose a good device.

I did look through the Accessories forum, and I found a post about a USB charger that's basically exactly what I'm looking for. But it was a year old and he never wrote if it worked or not, hence me starting this post. I appreciate your input though. Most of the stuff on the sub-forum is about wall chargers, and I'm specifically looking for a fast charging car charger.
See https://www.qualcomm.com/media/documents/files/quick-charge-device-list.pdf (the only not so funny thing is that it doesn't mention Nexus 6p)
Will receive my car charger tomorrow and I only discovered this document today.
Lucky me, the charger is mentionned So is your Satechi.

It doesn't mention it because the Nexus 6P does not support Qualcomm's QC3 or QC2 at all. Hopefully the car charger you bought (you didn't specify) has a native USB-C port or a permanently attached USB-C cable that outputs 5V/3A. Otherwise your QC3 charger will only output a maximum of USB-A which limits you to either 2.1 or 2.4A. A review and test results of many USB-C compliant accessories can be found here.

It does have a USB c cable and outputs at 3A.
Good spot on 6P not supporting QC while chip is a Qualcomm
Haven't seen many reviews. Will give feedback if it exploded.
edit: I finally have had time to test it. Works great.

I bought one and it arrived over the weekend. It works great, and it actually seems to run a tad cooler than my standard two amp charger.
Good to hear
