I'm having the same problem. The only thing that works is to unplug the device for a minute and plug it back in. I still looking for a permanent fix. Perhaps it is overheating or the antenna sucks. I'm thinking about opening mine up to take a look...
Not sure if this helps: I was able to kill the wifi by placing my hand over the android icon on the case for a few seconds (I did it a few times to make sure it wasn't a fluke). It seems as though the wifi never reconnects after a drop and I have to restart the device to get it back.
More info: I have been powering the device from an empty usb port on the TV. If I use the included adapter, it seems to be a little bit less flaky. For example, I can cover the device with my hand and it wont kill the wifi.
ok thanks i will buy a new one MK809II this one worked only 1 day:crying:

I have a mk809 bought from Justop. I used an old mobile phone charger that outputs 1A. This is the absolute minimum as you should use a 2A power supply. I only use the USB port for a wireless dongle for my perixx keyboard/mouse.
A USB port from a TV will not provide the full 2A power supply - at best you'll get 1A but, more likely, less than that.
For all the others out there having strange behaviour and/or reboots/wifi drops etc have a look at the power output of your power supply and make sure you are giving it a reliable 2A.
A lot of problems with Android sticks have been solved this way.
Hope this is useful to someone!
ok but i only use the usb power that came with the mk809 , i am thinking of trying a wifi wireless usb dongle, do you know which one will work

After using the XDA 1 since its release, I managed to get a SPV M1000. many advantages however Video and Camera are not very good !
Problem:
I charge from my sync when my desktop PC is on however as soon as I swich my desktop PC off the USB loses power ? and stops the charging. Is there a setting for this ? or is this normal ? my XDA 1 does charge from the USB when the desktop PC is off !
any ideas please

no phone or webcams (cmos chip video )that i've seen is very good quality, suppose thats the price one pay for lower power comsuming and cheap production cost and smaller size
about the xda2 then at least my cradle have a connector where i can plug in the charger adaptor if i want to charge without having my computer on
unless orange use a different cradle which i doubt then you too can plug in that charger if it dident come with the device you can prob buy it or use any charger with the same connctor and power voltage
Im sorted !
Stupid me !
after using the XDA 1 sync for so long, I forgot about the adapter being pugged in to the sync. However the handbook that came with it does not advise on charging so not entirely my stupidity.
thanks anyway
I think it depends on your PC's motherboard too. I have USB power to the cradle all the time, even when the PC is shut down. I don't use the power charger with the cradle ever - it's only for emergencies.
I agree. I have an abit Nf7-s motherboard and the usb port still delivers power when my computer is down
not if you pull the plug it dont
it all comes down to if the vsb 5volts standby
is connected to the usb
when there is an option in the bios to let keyboards turn on ones computer then it should work
if the usb is on a pci card like some of my usb2 cards is then it's up to the card
pretty sure mine dont
Hi I'd like to know whats the USB pin layout on the O2 Atom as my mini USB plug fell off and I'm trying to solder it back to gather.
So far i manage to get it charging again but I cant get data through it.
Also I wonder if anyone can tell me how to make a USB charging cable so that i can plug it into the PC and charge without activesync(without using WM5storage, just plug and charge) or I can charge via car charger(I know this can be done with a special adaptor but I'd like to make my own)
Help is very much appreciated Thx.
well i suppose that no one really know about it so if possible for those who already have thier Atoms opened up, take a high ress pic of the USB plug showing the pins and post it for me.
thx

actually i have a cable(which came with a universal battery pack) that allows me to do what i want but its in a bad shape hence I'd like to make another.
usb is pretty much usb htc's carry audio too but people report that normal miniusb in 1 end and usb in the other works just fine
and any device connected to usb's 5volt and ground get power even if the pc dont see it as a usb device it still provide 5volt and 0.5amps to them
thats how usb cup wamers and plastic dogs humping the usb port works
See here @ Wikipedia for details on pin-outs
Hello forum,
After researching it for a while, I'm curious if anybody knows if there exists a "Y-cable" to enable charging and syncing at the same time but with 2 separate cables.
I really annoys me to start and stop charging from my PC everytime I connect/disconnect the usb cable. So, what I want to do is to have the wall-charger connected charging the phone in a constant manner, but at the same time to be able to connect to the PC and experiment with whatever I want to to there! Even rebooting the PC can cause the charging to restart, so I want to eliminate this behavior.
Can the normal HTC Y-cable for charging/syncing + headphones be used for this job?
p.s. Enabling the "Do not charge while connected" Power Settings option is not what I want to do. I DO want to charge the phone AND have it connected to the PC.

I don't believe there is a cable for the purpose you want. However, you can use Activesync over bluetooht and accomplish the same thing.
This might work. It provides power for Seidio desktop cradles but in theory it should work without the cradle.

The USB cable will go from the computer to this device and the other cable will go out the other side into your phone.
I do the same thing charge my Tilt and can remove my USB cable or leave it charging if I turn my laptop off.

On note the end of the USB is a male USB port and you need to change it to a mini-male port.
This looks like the one I picked up.

fello posters,
thank you for your responses!!
The bluetooth option is more elegant, but as it is software dependant (BT stacks) I feel almost certain that I'll run into problems.
On the other hand, the Seido option seems to be the one that feels more "natural" and will do the job. I'll look more into that...
Again, thanks for the responses

I have used several WM phones before this, the two last were Atom and Atom Life. But this phone does not want to play ball with the USB extension cables I've been using all the time. First: No, the cables are all right: I can still sync my Atom Life without any problems. And I have used the original USB cable for the HD that comes with the box at the end (even though I've heard that syncing works just as well with a regular mini USB).
But neither a 3 m long extension cable (which is well below the 5 m USB limit) nor plugging it into a USB hub helps. Sometimes I can get a bit further with unticking the "advanced network" part of the USB to PC connection. But not allways. Has anybody here found a solution to that or even had the same problem?
Mine works fine on a Belkin 5 metre extension cable.
I can only sync with the cable that came with the phone. Other mini USB cables (ones that fit but are a different shape) only charge.

r u serious?! damn..!!! i've never tried it with the HD. my touch pro used to work perfectly with non-factory mini usb cable...
This happened to my HD.
Phone call to orange later and they insisted on replacing it under insurance.
All they wanted to check was whether the HD and PC would sync. I told them no and the response from the script that they have to work through, was that the phone is marked as "broke" and needs replacing.
In my case I suspect that the USB port may have been damaged when the car charger cable was pulled out accidently in the car with some force. Seems that they are a little delicate, especially with none HTC cables (i.e. without the odd shaped plug with only one corner truncated). I have read that non HTC ones fit a little less snug and can put stress on the board inside the phone when plugging / unplugging.

You hit that on the money. I see it as a design flaw as well as a scheme to get people to buy HTC-specific accessories. But you are right, generic cables with the different connector do fit loosely and can cause issues after time if you are not gentle with it. Also, the USB connector itself on the device and internally on the solder points is poorly designed. This doesn't help.
I can sync with any cable, but it seems to be to problems:
1. If the extension is too long, it will fail.
2. If it's run by more than one USB hub it will fail. The first hub is a Toshiba docking station with a one meter cable from the laptop. The second is a D-Link powered USB hub. No matter what cable I use then it won't sync. With the cable connected to the Toshiba docking I can sync both with a regular mini USB and the original cable. Strange thing is that it only works on one of the two the front USB connections and not on one of the four at the rear! Then again Windows isn't supposed to be logical, I guess...
Normal miniusb cable works perfectly for either charging and syncing.
I even had a 7m usb cable (5m and a 2m usb extending cable), worked perfectly for either charging and syncing (I need my phone to be next to my bed, and my PC is like a few meters away from my bed).
Seriously don't know how your HD refuses to work with a cable other than the stock HD USB cable.
Hi,
are you using a custom ROM?
i used all sorts of cables, whatever happens to be lying around, infact i never use the stock one, as this is plugged it at a very inaccesable wall socket for mains charging!
generally my cables go through a hub, and then a 1m extension.
the reason i ask about the ROM is that i have flashed loads of different ROMS, and all worked fine, except one ROM (think it was topix 2.6), where it would only connect for a brief moment before auto-disconnecting. i suspect it was a 'bad flash' as they say, and so if you are using a custom ROM would suggest a re-flash. if not, you could consider a hard reset, or trying a different ROM (perhaps if it the stock ROM it has a 'bad flash' at the factory)
Tom
This thread has been hijacked (I never asked about regular mini USB versus the proprietary HTC version), but if you're asking me, I'm using the latest official HTC version (Norwegian).
mine is not picky at all...
Thank god, I checked with a mini usb that came with my external HDD and it worked perfectly...
I tried 3 other cables and none of them work apart from to charge.
I'll see if it's an issue with using my hub.

No i'll try that when I get home.
Thanks
I have this issue with a specific cable on vista64, the phone only charges, but if I connect it to a Ubuntu box, I can sync, share network etc.
I think M$ is the issue in that case.
Is it possible to attach external devices to the Fire HD 10 via OTG and charge the Fire HD 10 at the same time using those special OTG+charging adapters?

Yes you can. It's also helpful if you want to use a wireless usb controller since it needs the power boost. Here's what I use: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Left-Angle...361414?hash=item48830dbec6:g:rQsAAOSwMmBV5RRC

My pleasure! I have a bluetooth keyboard case. I mostly use it for flash drives and it charges while in use. I also have those devices plugged into my firesticks at all times so I can transfer video files easier and never had a problem

Thanks for the confirmation. I had been using this cable (https://www.amazon.com/Tendak-Micro...07828&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=otg+y+cable&psc=1) for my Nexus 7 I had installed in my dash, and for some reason it just doesn't work with my HD 8. Even with the USB DAC not connected, the cable registers power, charges for about 30 seconds, then says it's not connected to power anymore. don't have this issue with the Nexus, or with any of my other power cables, but that's the only OTG angle cable I have.
I'll try the one you use, but I'll have to use a Micro USB angled extension to make it fit in the dash. Unless someone else knows of an OTG y cable with an angled plug that actually works for the HD 8?
Update: I've bought two additional otg cables from Amazon, and one will work for the usb device, but doesn't charge the tablet, the other charges the tablet, but won't work for the usb device. After testing both of these several times, they both started to have the same behavior as my other one, it shows charging for a few seconds, then stops, but continues to power the usb device. If I connect a normal power cable it will stay in "fully charged" mode forever and Automate reports power is connected. I'm starting to get really frustrated. I'm pretty sure it is actually charging, because when I left it connected like that for an hour, it never moved from 85%, but then as soon as I plugged in a normal charging cable it started "charging" at about 6% per minute, and said 100% within 3 minutes. Not even a QC 3.0 can do that. I'm so confused.
