Streaming H.264 Videos Help!! - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I am a new owner of a Nexus 7 (16G-All stock) and so far so good...except for the blueprint lsat prep website:
Note: I'm sorry, I'm new and cannot post links yet. If you try to go on the blueprint lsat prep website, the homepage has a link to sample videos of the course.
The company claims that it is possible to watch on Android. I have tried to watch using Chrome without any success. Tried it on Iphone, and the video played.
Since I am quite happy with the Nexus 7, I'd hate to have to return it and exchange it for an Ipad.
Please, please help!

Have you tried a third party media player such as mxplayer, or dice player? There are a few on the play store.

I went in to try, and I guess this was what you meant? It seemed to work for me.

I have tried other browser and switched the user agent to iPad and it works, except that the video looked funky and there was no video control.
The sample videos are on blueprintprep dooot com slassh last_phone
Thank you for your help!

This looks like a YouTube embedded video, which works for me as well on Chrome.

Google Play Video Rejects Rooted Devices

I downloaded Google Play Video and when I ran it, informed me that because I was rooted, I couldn't play rented videos. What is up with this? I am running CM9 ICS

It means what is says. Either its intentional or there will be a fix shortly.
I received Google's response. Basically, they said it was a copyright safeguard issue. I understand that this was intentional, I OP was in the context of the implications, especially in light of Google's response.
If that is Google's position, is it possible that they could extend this to any of their apps that involve protected content such a Books and Music? The whole "rooted" issue is a Red Herring anyway, because technically, our desktops and laptops are "rooted. "
Is Google starting to get pressure from the OEMs?

Try an app named 'on the air root keeper' from market it temporary unroots the device so that you can use any app

Google Video blocked rooted devices since LONG before the Play rebranding.

There are several ways around this. the easiest is simply to rename the su binary to something like mu. Play your video - then rename it back.

How are magazines on the Nexus 7 screen?

Hey guys, quick question - could someone tell me how the Nexus 7 is for reading magazines? Screenshots would be helpful but no worries if you can't. I'd like to be able to read mags without having to constantly double tap to zoom in and then pan around like I do on my PlayBook. I was hoping the extra pixels the N7 has over the Playbooks 1024x600 would allow me to do this. So how is it?
Cheers!
Hope this helps, popular science was free and preloaded. Used it as a example for your question.
Its a OK experience, but I'm coming from a larger tablet (iPad 2) and the smallish screen is still a feature I'm getting used too.
I included images attached but quality didn't look the same so here's outside hosted images

according to several reviews, there should also be a text only/reading mode which is much easier to read (like an ebook). see googles I/O address for N7.
Yes, that functionality does indeed work. I've attached some screenshots from Pop Sci.

Thanks for the screenshots. I was just thinking about how magazines would look on the N7. That text mode is a definite plus as well.:good:
Honestly it looks awesome.

Thanks guys that's awesome. Unfortunately I won't have access to Play Magazines because I'm in the UK but I use Zinio, and I just checked on the Play Store and it says that has a text only mode as well.
It's very very tempting, now if I can just find somewhere that stocks it...

[Q] Does the Allshare Cast dongle work with the S4?

Yes. It works fine and much smoother than S3. Specially for Gaming.

Don't mean to dredge up old threads, but would the Google Edition S4 work with the Allshare Cast dongle or does it have to be on touchwiz?
Thank you!

Dear Looking4somehelp,
Yes it works but 720p not 1080p as advertised. Also performance is very doubtful. For example , it is very hard to play the 3d game Offroad Legends since image on the TV screen has some corruptions due to the insufficient transfer speed and framerate is lower because of screen mirroring. Watching movies is a bit better also surfing web pages is ok... But all are 720p...
To use it, YOU MUST HAVE BOTH STOCK RECOVERY AND STOCK KERNEL otherwise phone cant connect to the dongle!!!
Odin Roms rooted with stock kernel and recovery are welcome...
Alternatively, you can purchase below items for 1080p transfer and lag free operations at almost same price of the dongle;
MHL Adaptor v2.0 50-60 hz
HDMI Cable
Mini bluetooth keyboard with touchpad.
Kind Regards...

BS, screen mirroring isn't smooth at all on the Galaxy S4 and only outputs at 1280*720.

Ok then....

Opened, Unlock, Root, Rom... damn!

Within 10 minutes of receiving my N7 from Staples.com I had her rooted, unlocked and running Scotts CleanRom.
Few questions I need answers to.....
I read that MXplayer is not yet working on the N7. That is really the only APP I use on a regular basis. Really the only reason I use the tablet. (Movies on the train to work) What is an equivalent movie player to MXplayer that you guys would recommend?
I ordered my tablet from Staples.com when they were stupid enough to let a few people get away with he $30.00 off code. Upon usage over the past 30 min I noticed a severe light bleed dead center on the top of the screen. I read issues on the N10 ( i never had that issue on mine). I think I'm going to return it. For those who got it through Staples.com, did you have any issues bringing it back into the store for a return?
Anyone else just LOVE the fact that the idiots over at HBO fix the HBOGO app for 4.2.2 on the Nexus 10 just to have it not be compatible with 4.3? Just great strategy there. I'm sure it works JUST FINE on the IPAD
That's it for now. If I think of anything else I'll be back. Thanks in advance
I found BS Player to be a functional substitute for MX Player.

[Q] Kitekat and flash player?

Anybody found out how to make flash player compatibile with kitekat?
I'm looking for the answer also it's a pain its not working.
Juts noticed this. Even using the latest apk from the Adobe archive doesn't work with any browser. I guess KitKat has properly killed off flash...
I hope somebody will find a way to revert this issue. Its annoying when I cant use my device as I like ;(

Do what I do. Pester the webmasters to move on to HTML5. Its faster, more secure, and far more compatible. I've found a lot of sites (some I can't/won't repost here) through inquirires that now play video just fine through Chrome and HTML5 on the Kit-Kat ROM. If its flash games you're concerned about, well, sadly, I have no solution. I suffered similar heartbreak when I learned that Dalvik != java
Defined go stopper for me before flash works

Yeah I was hoping to be able to open some flash games like the windows tablets do and other things. In school we use lots of activities in my anatomy class to match up different body functions and parts and these walkthrough type explaining activities that require flash.

Another reason I plan on staying with 4.3.
Flash doesn't work on my N5. I don't think its worth sacrificing flash over the features of 4.4 that I'd hardly use, so just 4.3 for my N10!
