I just installed my first ROM on my Nexus 4, AOKP Build 2. YAY, I broke my Flashing Rom Cherry...
Anyways, there is this blue circle symbol on the top left portion of the status bar. I have a picture posted, but is there anyway to get rid of this.
This is a new installation and it seems to keep showing up. Please and thank you for the help.
I haven't used AOKP in a while but that looks like a battery app you have showing up in the notification bar. Identify the app and disable the notification.
That's the thing, I have no idea which app. I flashed an unrooted Jelly Bean and then the AOKP 2 but both times this icon keeps showing up.
That has nothing to do with the rom, notifications in the top left are ALWAYS caused by apps.
It's there a notification when you pull the bar down? If so long press it and select app info to see which app is causing it

It's one of your apps. Are you leaving the option to restore from your Google account checked? If so, one of the apps being restored is the culprit. Takes some screenies of your app drawer. Maybe we can help you narrow it down.
I don't even have that many apps installed, and I have neither made nandroid backups nor backups in general. It's not a big deal, but would rather use the ROM's version of battery percentage indicator.
Long press the notification and press "app info" that appears.
Then you have the name of the offending app

I noticed this earlier, I accidentally swiped right on a message in my notification bar, and it cleared the notification. I'm on CM 6.1.1. I tried it with my gf's Optimus T and it didn't work.

Are you asking why the difference? Swiping to dismiss individual notifications is a feature added to CM ROMs I think back in CM6.1 (you can go check the change logs if you want to find out when for sure). Unless she is running CM6 or above, her ROM probably doesn't have that feature.
Ok, I had no idea it was a recent cm feature. Thanks!
I never knew this. Pretty sweet, thanks.

Nor me,... wow.
Yea this is a feature of CM6 and CM7. I figured it out a few months back. Its very useful when you have a bunch of good notifications you wanna keep and a bunch of stupid ones from cluttering it up.
It's not even close to being similar.
What's going on?
edit: What's missing:
Translucent menu bar
Translucent dock
The inability to add/remove home pages
Translucent app drawer - App drawer no different. Still shows widgets
Messaging app is still there - Good point though
To sum up, it looks like Jelly Bean..
sure it is. so the status bar isnt clear. install the Google Experience launcher if you didnt install it yet.

It's strange Google becomes easier and more accessible yet people still rather ask on a forum. And wait.

From memory, the same happened with 4.2/4.3 on the Galaxy Nexus vs Nexus 4. They were similar, but there were differences between them. One that springs to mind was the Nexus4 shipped with "Chrome" whereas the Galaxy Nexus had "Browser". There was other bits and bobs that were different between them too, and i remember thinking it was pretty strange, given they were supposed to be both running "vanilla" android.
Search or read existing threads this has been discussed countless of times. Install Nexus 5 port or buy a Nexus 5.

1. the n4 doesnt get the translucent bar.
2. same with the clock
3. install the google experience launcher, its not default
4. see#3
5. open google hangouts and except hangouts as your messaging app(same on n5).
so it turns out only the translucent bar and clock are different. does that make the n5 and n4 4.4 roms not even close to being similar, no.
Updated to 4.4.2 this morning without wiping the data from 4.3 as I simply forgot that step, but since everything looked okay I decided to skip the wipe. Now I'm wondering if this is how 4.4.2 is or if I need to do a wipe... here's the few things that bug me.
1. when you receive new notifications they appear at the top of the notifications list rather than at the bottom so new ones keep pushing things like my music app to the bottom
2. when in the App Drawer, if you press the menu button it takes about 2-3 seconds before the menu pops up to allow you to edit the App Drawer. with 4.3 this was not this long!
3. all of the icons, notifications list, etc look exactly the same as 4.3... is this because of TouchWiz?

Yes this is how 4.4.2 is. And the icons are going to be the same unless Samsung changes them through touchwiz since touchwiz is a skin on tip of stock android.

ahh, I see I see. Thanks for clearing this up for me!
I have a brand new Nexus 5 which I immediately flashed Omnirom(Nov 15th Nightly) onto. And the process went off without a hitch.
But the "remove" button does not show up when I long press a widget/icon on the homescreen in order to remove it. According to google, the only other instance of this error was on a Amazon Fire also on Omnirom(but there's no solution given).
Of course, I could be missing an obvious setting or something, so any advice would be helpful.
Thank you.

I will admit I don't use the default launcher, but did you try dragging the icon to the top (or bottom? I can't remember) of the screen? On Apex, dragging the icon to the top is the removal action. On some launchers, you'll see a trashcan appear somewhere when hold-dragging an icon.

There is no remove button. Just drag to the top it will become red which means it is removed.

Thanks guys. The remove button is at the top but it's invisible for some reason. (Weirdly, it's visible while editing widgets in the lockscreen)
And on the subject of custom launchers, could you guys recommend the most stable launcher for Omnirom?

Use Google now launcher or Nova. Haven't had issue with any launchers with Omni. Try out whichever you like.

On stock launcher this happens for me when you hide the search bar in settings.
It seems like the "remove" icon is also hidden if the checkbox is unchecked.
If you select to display the searchbar the icon will appear again.

The remove is still there and works. Just move up until it turns red then leave finger

I've found none for the entire status bar unless you're rooted so I'm using Battery Overlay Percent Key. It defaults to covering up your battery icon but you can move the battery icon anywhere you like. There is a free version but you get more customizations with the key which is pretty cheap. Oh there is one app for the status bar I know of called Omega but I found it to be terrible.

Odd that there isn't more launchers that do it, but there is one launcher that does have built-in status bar editing, CleanUI. It's a IOS look alike that previously was called Espier Launcher. I've tried it and it's not too bad, but it seemed to use more battery than Nova, what I normally use.
