CM10 vs stock-rooted; observations after a few weeks. - Nook HD, HD+ General

I find myself running CM10 most of the time (circa 12/31), but also being aggravated by spotty performance.
Primary performance concerns include:
- slower startup time
- sluggish running after initial startup ( have to wait for the system to 'settle'; feels like booting Windows XP from 5 years ago. )
- Really poor performance if something is writing to the card while trying to launch another app; i.e., if Google Play is updating an app while I'm switching or launching apps, it really chugs.
- Aggravating issue with sleep / wifi.
I'm running this on two different 32 GB Sandisk C4 cards.
Stock-rooted (running Nova Launcher) performs faster in all the above scenarios; not always markedly faster, but certainly noticeable.
Stock-root has issue with audio in various games I play ( i.e., no audio.)
But I'd have to say it feels snappier.
Stock-root gives up the top row and bottom row real-estate for BN status bars; the bottom row has the useless BN app button.
Stock-root has a markedly inferior Settings interface/number of options.
Perhaps the glory of installing CMxyz on internal memory will happen someday.

I've made the "useless BN app button" into a reading now button which I use all the time. Go to Settings > Applications > Home and uncheck Show my Recent Drawer. It will open epubs in other readers too. I use it to open whatever I'm reading with Mantano.

Info & Tips for New Wildfire Owners

HTC Wildfire New User Tips & Tricks
Hi,
Just thought I’d put this together for users of this great little phone. Hopefully it will be of use to someone.
First up, the Wildfire (also known as the Buzz) can run different firmware to that supplied by HTC.
There are several alternative firmware versions available, such as WildPuzzleROM. You can read more about these in the Wildfire Android Development sub-forum.
So why would you want to run different firmware?
One reason could be because you don’t like / have a use for the apps provided by your phone supplier (carrier) or HTC. As examples, many users may not have a need for social networking apps like FriendStream, Twitter, Facebook and so on. Other users may have no need for the Stock or News widgets. Other users are annoyed by all of the marketing-oriented crap from their phone company that fills up their app drawer with useless “apps” (these are often simply links to websites where you can buy ringtones, games, a.s.o.)
If you remove these apps from your installation (generally-speaking, you can’t remove them using the standard - or “stock” - firmware), it frees up a lot of internal memory for applications that you actually want to have on your phone. The other plus is that your phone will have more RAM to work with (because it‘s not running a bunch of default apps / services that start when you turn it on).
As with all computers, more free RAM means a faster, smoother experience and the ability to run more apps.
Another reason for using alternative firmware is to run a completely different interface. While you can install / run several “home” alternatives (basically, a different “desktop”) with the stock Wildfire firmware, the memory used by the default installed (HTC Sense) apps /services can affect the performance of your chosen alternate home.
Speaking of performance, many of the firmware alternatives allow you to overclock your Wildfire (make the processor run faster than the default speed). Some also enable a feature called JIT (just in time). Without getting into a bunch of technical jargon here, JIT can make applications run faster.
As an observation with MY Wildfire and overclocking - it becomes unstable if I use clock speeds over 691mHz - with a low limit of 128mHz. If I clock at 710, 728 etc. up to 768mHz I get lots of “fc” (force close) messages, weird hangs, or the phone simply reboots. Some folks are reporting stable usage at 768mHz, so it seems to be a luck of the draw thing, where some Wildfires will happily run at this speed. Having said that, a speed bump from the default 528mHz to 691mHz is a 31% increase in speed for free - so I’m not complaining.
Warning: As always with overclocking, you are using the CPU outside of spec which increases heat, battery use and so on. This is likely to reduce your phone’s lifespan and - in some cases - can destroy some phones. You’ve been warned of the risks, so it’s up to you to make the call on overclocking.
You can also UNDERclock your phone - using a utility such as SetCPU, which can be downloaded from the Market. This is the reverse of overclocking, where you run your CPU slower than default - which means a cooler phone and potentially much better battery life. This is unlikely to change the longevity of your phone, as the CPU is still running within spec.
Back to the benefits of running alternative firmware - and probably the biggest reason why you should consider it - is because it’s typically based on a more recent Android OS version than the one supplied by your phone company (or HTC themselves). New versions of Android often increase performance or add new features - and provide bug fixes.
In the Wildfire’s case, all of the current firmware alternatives are based on Android 2.2 (Froyo). The default firmware on Wildfire is Android 2.1 (Éclair).
Android 2.2 is faster than 2.1 and adds a feature which allows you to install your applications on the microSD card - rather than in the phone’s internal memory. This lets you install a lot more apps.
So, how do I install alternative firmware?
This involves a couple of steps.
First up is a process known as “rooting” your Wildfire. In plain language, you gain access to the base (or “root”) level of your phone’s operating software. If compared to a standard PC, this is the rough equivalent of the BIOS (Basic Input Output System). The easiest way to “root” your phone is with a utility called Unrevoked. See this thread for details on where to get it and how to use it:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764495
Warning: You should note that rooting a phone is not without risk. You can “brick’ your phone (functionally - turn it into something as useful for making phone calls as a brick). Having said that, many thousands of people have managed to do it by following the instructions / doing their homework BEFORE rooting. Do this, and you should be fine too.
Once you’ve rooted your phone, you need to find / download a firmware alternative. These are known / identified as a ROM. See / read / download from the threads in the Wildfire Android Development sub-forum.
Installation instructions are generally found in each ROM thread.
You can only install an alternative ROM on a rooted phone.
You can only install a ROM which is built for the Wildfire (or “Buzz”). Do not attempt to install a ROM designed for a “similar” phone, or you will end up with an expensive paperweight.
General Tips
Using a non-Sense UI “home” alternative allows you to change the look / general feel (and actual use) of your Wildfire. Among these alternative home apps are:
ADW.Launcher (my current home)
Launcher Pro (my fave, but just a little unstable at the moment….and will become my home when the handful of tiny problems are sorted)
Open Home
Panda Home
…and a lot of others.
These each offer their own unique set of features / way of user interaction and general layout. They are generally faster than Sense. Another plus is that they allow you to do things that you can’t do with HTC’s Sense. These include:
- the use of Live Wallpapers
- the ability to show more icons onscreen - both on the desktop or in the App Drawer.
- themes or skins that not only change the wallpaper, but also (some) app icons, taskbar appearance, and other stuff
There are a few caveats, however, which are due to the Wildfire’s screen resolution, processor, and lack of 3D acceleration. This means:
- many live wallpapers will not run
- changing the number of displayed app icons can look weird / overlap
- fonts can become hard to read
While we’re talking about hardware limitations, you should note that many apps (particularly games) will not run on the Wildfire. In fact, many may not even show up in the Market because they are designed for CPUs / 3D accelerators, or the higher screen resolutions found in “high-end” Android phones.
Many games designed for HVGA resolution (320 x 480) will run on Wildfire, but you might find that the right side of the image is off the edge of the screen.
The screen res also causes other weird quirks. An example is the Google Voice Search feature. When you first run this - a tutorial pops up, but you can’t exit this tutorial because you can’t see the onscreen buttons when in portrait mode. The solution is to rotate your Wildfire into landscape mode…and then you can access the buttons.
Extending Wildfire Battery Life
This collection of tips has been mercilessly plagiarised from various sources on the internet….so I don’t claim them as my own. I just compiled the ones that have worked for me.
Obviously, if there are certain features that you like / need to leave enabled, then leave ‘em turned on.
Settings > Accounts & sync
- Untick Auto Sync and Background data.
Some apps, like the Calendar, constantly sync….which chews through your battery. Some apps - like the Market & GMail - require sync to be active. My suggestion is to use these settings, and enable sync when you need to access the Market / use an app that requires sync to be enabled. Once you’re done, turn it off.
- In the settings of EACH app….NOT the phone Settings menu….you should be able to disable or change the timing of data retrieval or background syncing for apps like email or Twitter clients and RSS or Stock ticker apps.
Settings > Sound & display
- Screen Timeout Interval. Change to 15 or 30 seconds, rather than the default 1 minute.
- Screen brightness. You can manually set this, or use the automatic feature. I leave it on automatic because disabling it affects the way that the backlighting works for the buttons below the screen.
- Untick Phone Vibrate Notification. I can hear the ringtone, so don’t need the phone to vibrate to tell me I’ve got an incoming call.
- Untick Haptic Feedback. A personal choice. I leave it enabled, but it does save some juice if disabled.
Wireless & networks
- Untick Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & GPS. These suck down the power, so disable them unless you need them. As a tip, Android has a default widget called the Control Bar. Click-hold on a blank (4 columns wide by one row high) space on one of your home screens…and choose this widget. It provides a quick way to enable/disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Sync, & to switch between a few Brightness levels (if Auto-brightness isn’t active in Settings > Sound & display).
Settings > Applications > Running Services > Select and Stop any apps that you’re not using. This frees up memory and saves CPU cycles - and therefore reduces battery drain.

What about interfaces: is it REALLY worthy to change sense for launcher or sth else?

A personal choice, obviously....but compared with Sense...
- I like the additional customisation options that ADW or Launcher Pro offer.
- I use a Live Wallpaper - Plasma Live Wallpaper (Casey Langen)
- I turn off screen "bouncing" and scrolling delays, opening animations and fades etc. These make switching or scrolling between homescreens WAY faster than Sense - which makes the phone more fun to use. Swipe scrolling between homescreens "feels" like switching with a hardware button on another phone....if you get my drift?
- I have direct access to all of my essential apps in the menu bar at the bottom of the screen - not just the phone & app drawer. This is not only convenient, but it makes the phone faster to use.
- I can group / hide / choose by groups in the App Drawer. This reduces clutter, by hiding apps that I don't need to "launch" or add to the desktop (such as SuperUser)...or makes finding apps that are used rarely faster.
Why not download Launcher Pro and ADW etc. from the Market....and try them? Once installed, press the Home button, and choose the Launcher or Sense. Spend the time to set them up fully to YOUR liking....then actually use your phone like this for a day or two.
It took me a few weeks to try various launchers...but now - with an overclocked / completely Sense-less phone - I'd never go back. Sense is OK, but it's slow and a bit restrictive.
For me - it was about a setup that makes "sense" to me - and speed. The eye candy of the Live Wallpaper has a tiny performance penalty...which is my little indulgence after making everything else "lean".
Thanks for this guide, it is very helpful.
very informative, tried almost all of your tips. Thanks a lot!

Atrix's (or Android's?) memory handling behavior -- auto shutdown of apps etc.

Hi fellas,
Something's been peeving me lately with the Atrix, and it's got to do with its memory handling & auto-killing functionality.
This particular situation has been driving me nuts:
I like to use both the native browser & and the Opera browser. Primarily I use the native browser, which is set as the default, and Opera when I want to check something and I want the full (non mobile) webpage layout and its superior (in my opinion) rendering quality and speed.
So, say I've got Opera open on Engadget or XDA, one or two tabs open. I hit the Home button and open Youtube to look something up. Finish the video, hit the Home button again, and launch Opera, and it has exited already and has to reload my tabs again. This of course can cause issues like losing my place in the page or a flash video I had paused, or a message I was typing and wasn't done with.
In this simple example, all I did was launch a browser, open 2 tabs (40-60 or maybe even 80 MBs of RAM usage, depending on page complexity), hit the Home button, launch the YouTube player (30 to 50 MBs RAM usage), hit the Home button again and Opera's already been killed.
OS Monitor shows there's about 470 MBs of RAM free.
What gives? Checking the autokill settings it shows that the OS will kill empty processes when free RAM hits 82 MBs of free RAM (default settings, haven't messed with them)
This behavior doesn't happen only right after a fresh reboot. Once I've opened a few apps, google readers, twitter, facebook, camera/gallery, browser etc., it happens every time. I say this because, while I'm not a programmer (beyond high school level C++ and general computer curiosity), from what I understand by watching the app life cycle videos on Google's Android programmer site, if Opera and YouTube were the last apps to be launched, they should have the highest priority in being kept in memory and not being killed, and previously open apps should be killed off to reclaim memory before them.
I found that using Gemini app manager I can set an app to not be killed automatically, and while I understand that it's not recommended that this is done by end users, it does work, and I use the Exit button in Opera to exit it once I'm done using it.
It just seems ridiculous that I always have between 350-450 of free RAM available to the system, while apps that I use often end up being killed in the background.
Before someone jumps on me, I understand that Android apps are designed to be shut down and reopened seamlessly. My annoyance stems from the behavior of a phone that has 836 MBs of RAM to work with, and about 570 available on startup (I've frozen several motorola processes I don't use, such as the social network integration and home launcher).
I just tried what you did (open opera, loaded bbc and endgadget, watch a youtube video than returned to opera) and opera retained everything including webpage, where I have scrolled to etc. I would suggest you to unfreeze the moto apps and try again, maybe that is what is causing the problem. Sorry I could not be of greater help =(
I'm not disagreeing with you -- like I said, it's not the case after a fresh reboot, or perhaps when not using the phone heavily. It had been a couple of days since rebooting the phone for me, and kept happening all evening long every time I switched apps.
Still, even when I force keep Opera open through the Gemini third party app manager, and while opening other apps, the RAM usage never goes below 300. The OS is overly aggresively in keeping RAM free, and considering it never falls below 100 MBs free of RAM, it shouldn't be shutting down apps EVER -- at least according to the autokill levels. Is there something else I should be looking at in determining when Android kills apps open in the background?
Was it just a fluke due to memory leaks, etc?
Edit:
Further research shows that Gemini app manager doesn't stop it from being killed, but rather removes it from its own auto task kill list (which I don't use). Seeing Opera stay open for a while after a fresh reboot shows that after two or three days of being used, the phone's memory management gets bogged down & that's what caused the very short app lifespan.
I wouldn't mind rebooting more frequently if it wasn't for that damned battery jumping issue.

[Q] Scrollling with pics = lag

Hi all,
I guess ever since getting the Nexus 7 when it came out, I've been trying to reduce lag. It has become as sort of project of mine. The last year, I have gone over lots of ROMs, kernels, tweaking tools, and tried lots of good (and very much bad) stuff.
So far, I've come quite far and I am quite happy with the way my Nexus 7 runs. The Nexus runs great in all other apps, really. Browsing is smooth and not comparable in any way to what I started out with. I have some Danish, poorly designed sites that are quite heavy, and I get no lag.
Apart from one thing - i get BAD lag when scrolling down a list which has images in it. I also get minor lag at other lists, but images makes it horrible. My two best examples are the play store (almost unusable) and gReader (slightly better with images off in lists, but hey, shouldn't have to be like that).
I've been googling loads and it seems very few people have the same problem? I've had this problem with all kinds of ROMs, kernels, tweaks, whatever really. I can have a crap setup with a million services running and a google now process gone haywire with cpu at 75 degrees celsius, yet the stutter is just the same in play store and greader (e.g.).
My current setup (but note, I've tried many with same result):
- Completely fresh install of recent CM10.1 nightly
- franco kernel (1.7GHz CPU, 700MHz GPU, 512Kb read-ahead, interactive, deadline, fsync off, gpu scaling off, wifi performance streaming)
- Almost all services disabled, including most of google's, meaning I have greenify running, a few under google services and android keyboard
- Sync is currently off
- Currents is not installed
- I've got fstrim installed and run that recently on all partitions
- I've got 9GB of 13-ish free at the moment
- Location sharing off
- Accessibility off
- No widgets, completely empty homescreen (I use Apex, not locked in memory)
I've been testing on a 100/100Mbit line fiber and 60/15Mbit LTE and identical experience.
I DO have Xposed installed atm, but after this fresh install (and many other similar times), I go straight to play store on a fresh install before installing anything. Same problem always there.
I had been using Trinity kernel for quite some time, at the time I adjusted read-ahead a lot, but in this situation a standard read-ahead actually means less lag for me. I guess it means more, small lags, actually, less noticeable.
I've been testing Seeder and similar apps recently, but get no particular difference with this problem.
When using the older version of Google Play, it is much more smooth, yet in the lists with apps it still stutters. Like 2-3 stutters a second, at times it hangs for a whole second, when scrolling down. It stutters each time and image is placed.
My experience: It seems the act of scrolling AND loading images doesn't work well in parallel.
I really hope someone can help me understand the problem, or, if so lucky, help me eradicate (or at least) reduce it.
Mkay, so it seems I am in a situation, where lagfix etc. doesn't alleviate the problem with very low random write speeds. I have done Forever Gone and various other things, but it just doesn't help. So, after googling a lot again, with inconclusive results:
What the feck is the conclusion on those low read speeds? I have plenty of space free...

The Play Store has always stuttered horribly when scrolling, as does Play Music. From my own observations, this is an issue with the implementation of rendering in these applications, rather than a lack of system performance. It is not isolated to the Nexus 7 either; it occurs within these applications on every Android device.
When you load the Play Store (or Play Music with album art) and begin to scroll, images are loaded when they come into view and unloaded once you move past them. I would surmise that the behaviour is intended to conserve RAM on less capable devices, however the consequence appears to be that this constant loading and unloading of images while scrolling results in stuttering. I have tested this hypothesis by comparing image-based applications (such as HTC Music) which do not implement the aforementioned function against those that do. The result is always that the former are completely smooth, while latter stutter incessantly.
Now that most new Android devices are shipping with 2GB of RAM, I do hope that Google will either remove this function or disable it on current devices (based on the brand/model the device identifies as).

[Q] Some questions about G2!

Hi everyone. I want to ask some questions about G2 software since I am interested in getting one. Please be aware that I have a nexus 4 currently and already owned a galaxy s3 and htc sensation before so my questions might be slightly related or inspired from those.
1- when filling 5 screens with icons and widgets, does it become laggy swiping between screens!? Does the overall performance get affected!?
2- following the above, does the launcher have any redraws when pressing home button like htc sense or touchwiz!?
3- how do you compare the smoothness of the overall experience compared to pure android?! Is it smooth in general!?
4- how do you compare opening apps speed and responsiveness of the whole system!? My nexus 4 is amazingly fast and responsive.
5- when typing a text, do wrongly written words get underlined by zigzag red line like in pure android or like on windows Microsoft word?! (Automatic and live spelling check)
6- does the system lag heavily when opening contacts/people app like it happens on touchwiz?! (Of course when having a lot of contacts synced with a lot of accounts)
7- does scrolling in messaging app lags heavily if you have like 1000 sms?!
8- in phone app, can you swipe from keys page to call log to favorites page like in nexus, or you will have to pick the tab manually on the top of the page?!
9- also can you swipe between different apps ins settings or i will have to reach top of screen like in touchwiz?!
10- can i have list settings view instead of tabbed view on international D802 version?!
11- does calling keypad have smart dialling?!
12- can i install dashclock on default screen of the default lockscreen?! Or i have to use the stupid provided one like on the note 3?!
13- how much free RAM you got when you bought the phone new and it had no apps?!
14- how much free RAM you have now (of course after closing all background apps by swiping them from recents) but installing a lot of apps that needs RAM?! ( chrome, whatsapp, viber, tango, skype, facebook, g+, avast, etc...)
15- does the system goes laggy when low on RAM like what happened on touchwiz and sense?!
16- does the phone goes very hot when playing heavy games for like 30min?! How much in temperature?! Is it like the nexus 4 or worse?!
17- is there is currently a MOD that allows running any app in Qslide mode like what happened with Spen window on note series?!
18- Is video recording that bad like it is said in many youtube videos?! Does it have really a hard time focusing?!
That's all folks!
Thank you guys!

8- in phone app, can you swipe from keys page to call log to favorites page like in nexus, or you will have to pick the tab manually on the top of the page?! Yes you can swap
9- also can you swipe between different apps ins settings or i will have to reach top of screen like in touchwiz?! Not sure what you mean, you can swap in different tab in settings.
10- can i have list settings view instead of tabbed view on international D802 version?! Yes.
11- does calling keypad have smart dialling?! Yes, I think.
12- can i install dashclock on default screen of the default lockscreen?! Or i have to use the stupid provided one like on the note 3?! I don't know.
13- how much free RAM you got when you bought the phone new and it had no apps?! About 1,30.
14- how much free RAM you have now (of course after closing all background apps by swiping them from recents) but installing a lot of apps that needs RAM?! ( chrome, whatsapp, viber, tango, skype, facebook, g+, avast, etc...) About 1,20 after closing them but I don't use Facebook, Skype Avast.

16- does the phone goes very hot when playing heavy games for like 30min?! How much in temperature?! Is it like the nexus 4 or worse?! I don't play games but in heavy use it feels less hot than the Nexus 4, CPU temp is about 60 °C.
17- is there is currently a MOD that allows running any app in Qslide mode like what happened with Spen window on note series?! Not yet.
18- Is video recording that bad like it is said in many youtube videos?! Does it have really a hard time focusing?!No, for me recording video is perfect. Sometimes Youtube is not the best way to judge a video recording...

18. it's not bad for me, you have already a fix on xda.
Conclusion; fastest phone, best screen, best battery, best SoC, super usefull apps, zero lag phone on the market (excluding note 3, which is a phablet)
Sorry I'm out of thanks now. Will do it tomorrow
Thanks a lot man! This is really assuring!
1- when filling 5 screens with icons and widgets, does it become laggy swiping between screens!? Does the overall performance get affected!?
I have 6 pages, two of which are widgets, Ive noticed no lag at all.
2- following the above, does the launcher have any redraws when pressing home button like htc sense or touchwiz!?
I haven't seen it myself.
3- how do you compare the smoothness of the overall experience compared to pure android?! Is it smooth in general!?
I've run stock, cleanrom, and cyanogen on this. Stock is a little ram hungry, but as far as stock goes, it's butter smooth.
4- how do you compare opening apps speed and responsiveness of the whole system!? My nexus 4 is amazingly fast and responsive.
G2 is a beast, opening apps is instant for me.
5- when typing a text, do wrongly written words get underlined by zigzag red line like in pure android or like on windows Microsoft word?! (Automatic and live spelling check)
I'm looking at them now, yes.
6- does the system lag heavily when opening contacts/people app like it happens on touchwiz?! (Of course when having a lot of contacts synced with a lot of accounts)
I can't say that I could tell, I only have 60 contacts.
7- does scrolling in messaging app lags heavily if you have like 1000 sms?!
If you first start the app there is a .5 second jitter, but its smooth after.
8- in phone app, can you swipe from keys page to call log to favorites page like in nexus, or you will have to pick the tab manually on the top of the page?!
Yep, you can swipe.
9- also can you swipe between different apps ins settings or i will have to reach top of screen like in touchwiz?!
I use list mode.
10- can i have list settings view instead of tabbed view on international D802 version?!
Settings app has a setting for this.
11- does calling keypad have smart dialling?!
Yep, I saw a reference to it in settings.
12- can i install dashclock on default screen of the default lockscreen?! Or i have to use the stupid provided one like on the note 3?!
I never tried, but I had no issues with custom widgets yet.
13- how much free RAM you got when you bought the phone new and it had no apps?!
Probably the worst thing about this phone, Verizon had cluttered it bad, and the stock is a bit ram hungry, ~700mb was used.
14- how much free RAM you have now (of course after closing all background apps by swiping them from recents) but installing a lot of apps that needs RAM?! ( chrome, whatsapp, viber, tango, skype, facebook, g+, avast, etc...)
I'm running Cyanogen now, mine is significantly lower, but I'd guess ~400
15- does the system goes laggy when low on RAM like what happened on touchwiz and sense?!
I've never gotten low on ram, but I doubt it.
16- does the phone goes very hot when playing heavy games for like 30min?! How much in temperature?! Is it like the nexus 4 or worse?!
Its cool to the touch for me.
17- is there is currently a MOD that allows running any app in Qslide mode like what happened with Spen window on note series?!
I wouldn't know, I'm using cyanogen now.
18- Is video recording that bad like it is said in many youtube videos?! Does it have really a hard time focusing?!
Better than my friend's iPhone 5S. Quality is great.
Hope this helps you, I'm loving the G2

Thanks bro for your awesome reply!
Thanks to you helpful people. As much as I like to help out, that was above and beyond what I'm capable of on most days. This community is turning out to be pretty good.
-I haven't got recent bug but I have different. I keep apps in 6-7 folders. But when I restart device 2-3 apps in folders change order and folders (3G watchdog and booking). Does it only happen in my device?
-Is there any way to disable lockscreen help?
-Is there any way do enable radio without rooting device (my device has hardware support but it is disabled in my country firmware)?

Stopping Device Slow Downs (Sluggish Performance)

After some pain at the hands of sluggish performance on my new Shield Tablet to the point where it won't even turn on (soft reset required) I have discovered the following causing problems:
1. Older versions of Folder Organiser (specifically the version on Amazon App Store) slows the tab down considerably
2. Amazon apps being moved to SD. Basically don't do it for any Amazon app
Please add your own discoveries to this thread.
Soundcloud seems to be buggy on 5.0 I have had some freezes with it on several devices
PicSay Pro leaves artifacts all over the screen when it's used. I find it almost impossible to use it for simple tasks like cropping an image now.
Dolphin Browser is slow. Unnaturally "this can't be my WiFi" slow.
Apps on Android don't age as gracefully as on Windows. Even when the developer updates them occasionally, often OS changes, like what I presume is a shift from Dalvik to ART, can be crippling.

I am really struggling to find stable performance on the tablet. It seems to jam up for no reason and require soft reset to get working again, at least twice a day.
Has anyone else moved apps to SD card? did it give you any problems? - This is the only thing I can think of beyond hardware faults.
