[Q] Some questions about G2! - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone. I want to ask some questions about G2 software since I am interested in getting one. Please be aware that I have a nexus 4 currently and already owned a galaxy s3 and htc sensation before so my questions might be slightly related or inspired from those.
1- when filling 5 screens with icons and widgets, does it become laggy swiping between screens!? Does the overall performance get affected!?
2- following the above, does the launcher have any redraws when pressing home button like htc sense or touchwiz!?
3- how do you compare the smoothness of the overall experience compared to pure android?! Is it smooth in general!?
4- how do you compare opening apps speed and responsiveness of the whole system!? My nexus 4 is amazingly fast and responsive.
5- when typing a text, do wrongly written words get underlined by zigzag red line like in pure android or like on windows Microsoft word?! (Automatic and live spelling check)
6- does the system lag heavily when opening contacts/people app like it happens on touchwiz?! (Of course when having a lot of contacts synced with a lot of accounts)
7- does scrolling in messaging app lags heavily if you have like 1000 sms?!
8- in phone app, can you swipe from keys page to call log to favorites page like in nexus, or you will have to pick the tab manually on the top of the page?!
9- also can you swipe between different apps ins settings or i will have to reach top of screen like in touchwiz?!
10- can i have list settings view instead of tabbed view on international D802 version?!
11- does calling keypad have smart dialling?!
12- can i install dashclock on default screen of the default lockscreen?! Or i have to use the stupid provided one like on the note 3?!
13- how much free RAM you got when you bought the phone new and it had no apps?!
14- how much free RAM you have now (of course after closing all background apps by swiping them from recents) but installing a lot of apps that needs RAM?! ( chrome, whatsapp, viber, tango, skype, facebook, g+, avast, etc...)
15- does the system goes laggy when low on RAM like what happened on touchwiz and sense?!
16- does the phone goes very hot when playing heavy games for like 30min?! How much in temperature?! Is it like the nexus 4 or worse?!
17- is there is currently a MOD that allows running any app in Qslide mode like what happened with Spen window on note series?!
18- Is video recording that bad like it is said in many youtube videos?! Does it have really a hard time focusing?!
That's all folks!
Thank you guys!

1- when filling 5 screens with icons and widgets, does it become laggy swiping between screens!? Does the overall performance get affected!? Not at all.
2- following the above, does the launcher have any redraws when pressing home button like htc sense or touchwiz!? No, but it seems some people have reported this
3- how do you compare the smoothness of the overall experience compared to pure android?! Is it smooth in general!? For me it's equal.
4- how do you compare opening apps speed and responsiveness of the whole system!? My nexus 4 is amazingly fast and responsive. Speed and responsive, faster my Nexus 4.
5- when typing a text, do wrongly written words get underlined by zigzag red line like in pure android or like on windows Microsoft word?! (Automatic and live spelling check) I don't know, I don't use the correction.
6- does the system lag heavily when opening contacts/people app like it happens on touchwiz?! (Of course when having a lot of contacts synced with a lot of accounts) Not at all.
7- does scrolling in messaging app lags heavily if you have like 1000 sms?! A little... Like all phones.
8- in phone app, can you swipe from keys page to call log to favorites page like in nexus, or you will have to pick the tab manually on the top of the page?! Yes you can swap
9- also can you swipe between different apps ins settings or i will have to reach top of screen like in touchwiz?! Not sure what you mean, you can swap in different tab in settings.
10- can i have list settings view instead of tabbed view on international D802 version?! Yes.
11- does calling keypad have smart dialling?! Yes, I think.
12- can i install dashclock on default screen of the default lockscreen?! Or i have to use the stupid provided one like on the note 3?! I don't know.
13- how much free RAM you got when you bought the phone new and it had no apps?! About 1,30.
14- how much free RAM you have now (of course after closing all background apps by swiping them from recents) but installing a lot of apps that needs RAM?! ( chrome, whatsapp, viber, tango, skype, facebook, g+, avast, etc...) About 1,20 after closing them but I don't use Facebook, Skype Avast.
15- does the system goes laggy when low on RAM like what happened on touchwiz and sense?! Not at all.
16- does the phone goes very hot when playing heavy games for like 30min?! How much in temperature?! Is it like the nexus 4 or worse?! I don't play games but in heavy use it feels less hot than the Nexus 4, CPU temp is about 60 °C.
17- is there is currently a MOD that allows running any app in Qslide mode like what happened with Spen window on note series?! Not yet.
18- Is video recording that bad like it is said in many youtube videos?! Does it have really a hard time focusing?!No, for me recording video is perfect. Sometimes Youtube is not the best way to judge a video recording...
That's all folks!

7.No lag ever!!!!
8.You can swipe
9.You can swipe or make settings like pure android (just scroll down through settings)
10.Anwserd 9
11.yes

Conclusion; fastest phone, best screen, best battery, best SoC, super usefull apps, zero lag phone on the market (excluding note 3, which is a phablet)

Sorry I'm out of thanks now. Will do it tomorrow
Thanks a lot man! This is really assuring!

1- when filling 5 screens with icons and widgets, does it become laggy swiping between screens!? Does the overall performance get affected!?
I have 6 pages, two of which are widgets, Ive noticed no lag at all.
2- following the above, does the launcher have any redraws when pressing home button like htc sense or touchwiz!?
I haven't seen it myself.
3- how do you compare the smoothness of the overall experience compared to pure android?! Is it smooth in general!?
I've run stock, cleanrom, and cyanogen on this. Stock is a little ram hungry, but as far as stock goes, it's butter smooth.
4- how do you compare opening apps speed and responsiveness of the whole system!? My nexus 4 is amazingly fast and responsive.
G2 is a beast, opening apps is instant for me.
5- when typing a text, do wrongly written words get underlined by zigzag red line like in pure android or like on windows Microsoft word?! (Automatic and live spelling check)
I'm looking at them now, yes.
6- does the system lag heavily when opening contacts/people app like it happens on touchwiz?! (Of course when having a lot of contacts synced with a lot of accounts)
I can't say that I could tell, I only have 60 contacts.
7- does scrolling in messaging app lags heavily if you have like 1000 sms?!
If you first start the app there is a .5 second jitter, but its smooth after.
8- in phone app, can you swipe from keys page to call log to favorites page like in nexus, or you will have to pick the tab manually on the top of the page?!
Yep, you can swipe.
9- also can you swipe between different apps ins settings or i will have to reach top of screen like in touchwiz?!
I use list mode.
10- can i have list settings view instead of tabbed view on international D802 version?!
Settings app has a setting for this.
11- does calling keypad have smart dialling?!
Yep, I saw a reference to it in settings.
12- can i install dashclock on default screen of the default lockscreen?! Or i have to use the stupid provided one like on the note 3?!
I never tried, but I had no issues with custom widgets yet.
13- how much free RAM you got when you bought the phone new and it had no apps?!
Probably the worst thing about this phone, Verizon had cluttered it bad, and the stock is a bit ram hungry, ~700mb was used.
14- how much free RAM you have now (of course after closing all background apps by swiping them from recents) but installing a lot of apps that needs RAM?! ( chrome, whatsapp, viber, tango, skype, facebook, g+, avast, etc...)
I'm running Cyanogen now, mine is significantly lower, but I'd guess ~400
15- does the system goes laggy when low on RAM like what happened on touchwiz and sense?!
I've never gotten low on ram, but I doubt it.
16- does the phone goes very hot when playing heavy games for like 30min?! How much in temperature?! Is it like the nexus 4 or worse?!
Its cool to the touch for me.
17- is there is currently a MOD that allows running any app in Qslide mode like what happened with Spen window on note series?!
I wouldn't know, I'm using cyanogen now.
18- Is video recording that bad like it is said in many youtube videos?! Does it have really a hard time focusing?!
Better than my friend's iPhone 5S. Quality is great.
Hope this helps you, I'm loving the G2

Thanks bro for your awesome reply!

Thanks to you helpful people. As much as I like to help out, that was above and beyond what I'm capable of on most days. This community is turning out to be pretty good.

-I haven't got recent bug but I have different. I keep apps in 6-7 folders. But when I restart device 2-3 apps in folders change order and folders (3G watchdog and booking). Does it only happen in my device?
-Is there any way to disable lockscreen help?
-Is there any way do enable radio without rooting device (my device has hardware support but it is disabled in my country firmware)?

Lag or not lag ??

I've read all post in this board.
but i can't quite understand if lag is really there, if it shows only in certain phone(say carrier, geographical area etcetc) or whatever...
reading random post here and here doesn't give precise informations about this aspect of the hero's user experience.
So i'll make a poll. 4 options of lag-tollerability.
if you vote for the poll, reply describing details of the phone, and a precise description of the lag(where, when, app open...)
ps
I'm italian so sorry for my dodgy english.
I'm going to refrain from voting until I have a better idea of what precisely people mean by lag.
The only slightly slow thing on my G2 has been the messages - sometimes there has been a bit of a delay opening the list of messages, threads etc.
Today, I waited for all of about..........four whole seconds.
I can live with that.
None of the phone's other functions have any appreciable delay or sluggishness.
It's worth noting, however, that I don't use the Farcebook or Twatter widgits, so I don't know if they cause any lag on other poster's phones.
Compare this to my Vario III/Kaiser which seized up on regular occasions.
And if you had the temerity to hit the 'back' button whilst using PIE, well, it was sometimes quicker to do a soft reset than wait for it to get its arse into gear.
That's the feedback i was looking for.
in my opinion you are in the second option of the pool.
Because it's normal that some application need loading time, and that's not lag nor abnormal..
I voted no lag, but that is because of some modifications I made.
Before I go into detail, here is my definition of "lag":
My device lags if an action that should be instant hangs for a fraction (or more) before taking place. An example of such an action is a screen swipe across the homescreen. It should happen as you perform the swipe, if it doesn't, something is lagging and preventing the screen from moving. Waiting for a calendar to load, an inbox to display, logging in to messenger, that sort of stuff is in my view not lagging. They are usualy an action that loads data for display or modification.
I voted for No lag at all, but I cheated because I have removed the entire Sense UI and its widgets from my device using the Rosie remover from Modaco.
The Sense UI is a great piece of work, but every time I used it I had the feeling the Hero just doesnt have the horsepower to drive such a UI. (Which fits my description of lagging)
So, lagging: No, but only after cheating and reverting to the default Homescreen.
I voted totally no, but it's not exactly true. The phone can sometimes lag abit while it's loading up from sleep mode, also the browser can lag depending on which sites you visit. But both of those examples are very minor and I have never had the phone freeze for more than a second.
Sure the phone could be faster, but when I got it, and after hearing about it's laggyness from reviews I was supprised of how fast it was.
I use the default ROM that came with the phone, and taskkiller isn't even installed.
I have a couple of complaints about this device but lag isn't one of them.

I experience the same thing, I've had doubts on buying the new diamond 2 or the hero, since i've had the diamond 1 for a while I decided to try the android thingy.
Compared to that the diamond lives in the stoneages and experiences lot's of lag, my hero sometimes hesitates when coming out of sleep and when I just refreshed the widget's (got new mail ore weather update) it lags a tiny bit, but I don't consider the hero to lag overall so I voted option 2
Typing quickly makes the keyboard lag quite alot which always winds me up.
Scrolling through contacts is very clunky (maybe due to all of them having pictures and facebook status'). But then again dont offer the feature if its crap.
Messages takes too long to load up.
BAM!

Did you keep any aspects of Sense UI intact? I don't know what is tied to it as far as the keyboard and music player?
Totally no for me. I thought about 'More of a slight delay' but that would be less accurate, as for the most part things happen very quickly. The keyboard has been known to miss a beat, and large pdf files take a minimum of time to load up the pages as you scroll, but apart from the expected delay in processing intensive tasks, generally I've been pretty amazed at the speed of the thing to be honest. If I was to say the Hero lagged, I'd have to say my PC lagged aswell. Some things do take time. You're not gonna load up a 5Mb pdf instantaneously on the iPhone either.
To completely remove delay or lag from a phone you'd need processing power far beyond that normally required by the software, which isn't practical.

Only the visible parts have been removed such as HTC widgets and the homescreen itself. The apps still work great (calendar, people, keyboard, etc). The background services are still present.
Just a bit of delay between switching screens and once in a while I do encounter keystroke lag when typing on eBuddy and RoadSync email - rarely any keyboard lag when texting.
I've been trying out some bits and pieces over the past couple of days and have noticed some serious performance differences.
After my factory reset I didn't set an 'unlock code' with the connect the dots dealy, this has made a massive difference to the performance of my phone. Also, as I'm with Vodafone, I didn't bother setting up Peep, I opted for Twidroid instead. Without peep on a home 'scene' I've got a performance boost too. Twidroid is still running in the background, mind and I don't miss a tweet!
Just thought I'd chime in and see if anyone else had noticed the same.
No lag at all here with anything yet, tried a few different configurations. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones, but looks like the new update will sort out any lag in the next few days?
No lag for me, sometimes you have to wait a second but compare to my last phone (HTC Diamond) it's just black and white.
The diamond was buggy and slow. The hero is fast, I never had a freeze and Android is the best OS I never tried!
This is my first touch screen, and first android phone, so of course im constantly impressed with it. Blows my mind in fact.
That said, I do experience lag problems:
- that require me to use Taskiller to kill everything once in a while if ive been using to many difference apps.
- Keyboard lag when typing fast. More noticeable if apps are piled up in the background
- Sliding between home screens straight after unlocking the screen. Seems like once they screens are 'buffered' they slide smoothly and quickly. FYI i only use 3 home screens with only the clock, dialer, Taskiller and WIFI widget. Rest is plain app shortcut icons.
- Dialer widget. Sliding through favourite contacts is sloooow. Take a second or two to start moving, and as aboive, once I've slid all the way up and down and its 'buffered' its smooth as silk...
I voted for Sometimes is unusable.
First week I used TasKiller and Advanced Task Killer (great app btw!) to kill unnecessary apps running, and I was very pleased with the performance. Next week I uninstalled all third party task killer apps because I read here that Android should be very capable of handling these things. Well in my experience, I doesn't handle this all too well, I think now my device is lagging more than with me using task killers.
Lagging here means screen unresponsive when unlocking, not being able to drag notifications bar to properly view what's there, home screen switching is not so smooth etc. I'm only using Wi-Fi & other ON/OFF switches, medium weather app, couple of calendar widgets and bunch of shortcuts on my home screen. Only FB contacts are integrated, I'm not on Twitter or Flickr.
Just today I started using class 6 microSD card, and for now, everything seems pretty smooth. But I did remove the battery before doing this so it might not be so dramatic change compared to previous experience. Waiting eagerly for the new Hero update!
Only Sense is slow sometimes
Sometimes (once or twice a day) it definately lags. But it seems only a "Sense" issue. When it happens, for example the scrolling is not smooth anymore and the "SMS" Widget stops working properly (you can't flip trough the messages anymore).
But if I enter any Application, the App. itself works smooth and without any lags at all.
Strange thing is: after a couple of minutes (and it doesn't matter if the phone is turned on or not) the lag disappears totally. Maybe theres is some sort of "memory-rearrangement" or "Disk defragmentation" going on that slows the phone down while running.
it's worth noting as well that whether or not there are any "issues" it's always possible to make the phone lag - playing high-bit-rate-music while trying to browse a flash website will do it, for example - but that's only because the phone doesn't artificially limit what you can do

Multitasking or lack of!

Im new to android i was using iphone before i got Galaxy S with gingerbread and i've noticed that if i don't use an app for a while, it gets automatically killed. For example i quit browser, or the music player, or basically any other app using the home button. Than if after a few minutes i try to return to them, but they have to load up again. This can get annoying, since almost every time i open a link in browser to view my twitter feed/resume music playback after a while/open a book/etc. the app has to load up everytime.this never happend on iOS i could open many and go back to them will be right where left of but why dosent this happen on my galaxy s? is something wrong with my phone or is just android.
+1
seems to me Android hasn't fully matured yet
But when I take my former 3GS in my hands, now my wife's, it feels sluggish and I'm missing things.
i was using 3gs before this and honestly even now using 3gs such amazing experience compared to android no lag or thing like that, but is there any mod or app that can fix the multitasking issues? evertime i close the browser to go play a song or watever n open the browser again it has to load the page all over again just like pretty mch all of the apps
There is nothing wrong with your phone or android. You said that you leave the phone for a while and then go back and you had to open the apps up again and they had to re-load. This is normal because when you press HOME to get out of them, they are kept in the memory for a short amount of time before your phone kills them off as it thinks you're not using them anymore.
If you were using say.. APP1 and then press the home button to go back to your homescreen and launch APP2, then press the home button again to go back to APP1, everything will still be the same.
But if you don't go back to APP1 for a long time, the OS kills it off to free up resources and stop background apps from eating your battery.
iOS doesn't have true multitasking, it simply freezes the current state of the app and you can pick it up again when you switch back to it. For example, in Android you can press the home button to switch away from MSN messenger, but it will still be running, you can still receive messages etc. However on iOS, if you press the home button to switch away from MSN messenger, it will momentarily sign you out and freeze the app state and then re-sign you back in when you go back to it.
I hope that helps
I have often heard this argument of "Android is true multitasking" vs "iPhone only freezes the current state of the app" and (even as a veteran Android user) I think iPhone's solution works better in practical terms.
Most of the time, with mobile computing, users switch between apps but don't really care if they are actually still "running" in the background or not - they just don't want to have to keep reloading applications from scratch everytime. For this, iOS is perfect as it almost seamlessly resumes an application the user last accessed several hours before exactly where they were at that time.
Because Android has to keep the whole application in memory, it quickly runs out (even with 512mb RAM) and then has to decide what application it will close. If switching between games (which often require >50mb each) then the memory manager will likely close game 1 as soon as I load game 2.
To add to this, with push notifications, applications don't really need to run all the time in the background (with regard to the example of MSN messenger above). The application can "freeze", allow push notifications to keep an eye out for incoming messages, then resume when I want to access it - perfect!
Of course, with the advent of 1gb phones (such as SGS II), perhaps there is an argument to be had for Android multitasking as there will be enough free memory to keep 10+ applications running at once. Who knows!

Never having used IOS can you tell me that if I am visiting friends and am talking to them in a call can I then pull up their contact details and use it to switch to navigation to get me there in the middle of which I get a SMS and read it without coming out of the call or losing my place in navigation?

lolz.
But going back to the previous post about iphones being more practical, I do agree with this point. Most users of iphones are not really tech savvy and just want a phone that works. No tweaking no technical mumbo jumbo, this is where the iphone shines. This "freezing" and its ability to bring the app back to the user seamlessly does appear to more desireable than androids "true" multitasking.
Heres hoping that future generations of android phones really provide a good multitasking experience thats both functional and practical

[Q] How to make MF3 snappier?

Well my S4 is running MF3, rooted and bloatware frozen... however sometimes it lags, even my S2 running Shostock 3.0.2 (based on 4.1.2) is way more snappier. So all you guys with MF3 what are you doing to make this crap MF3 worth the "S4 name" ?
Thanks.
I have been on a quest to see "lag" on S4 which I cannot say I have seen (or it is in places I am not paying attention to)
However I have been checking out some apps that state they make you device run like new or something towards those lines. maybe I can help you
#1 Get XPOSED FRAMEWORK from apps store (free) - this is like a gateway to some cooler fucntionality
#2 Get GREENIFY from apps store (free) - read instructions - do not greenify clocks or messaging apps or they wont work
--use common sense basically, I greenify all games, browsers....stuff that I start interaction with.
#3 Get WANAM XPOSED from apps store (free) - here you can adjust colors and a lot of functionality.
---one thing of interest is ENABLE BOOST MODE (enables benchmark boosting for CPU to achieve MAX power)
#4 Get Android Tuner (free/paid) - I paid for mine. However this app lets you tune every aspect of the OS, if you're a power linux guy you'll pick up on what it is doing.
---however this provides a feature called TRIM which keeps the drive/storage at top performance. Google "ssd trim" for details if you dont know what it is
Now I can use these apps *blindly* and force my phone to run slow, but if I disable them (back to stock settings) I seem to run just fine
A word of caution:
Throwing every "enhancement" feature from different 3rd party application on top of each other can have a negative effect.

Thanks for those recommendations.. they look awesome will try one at a time except the XPOSED FRAMEWORK.. until a flashable image of MF3 is rolling, I'm trying to avoid messing with framework...
But well this is lag is kinda weird.. for example after using the browser or any other app for a bit of time then when press home button it lags to show the default screen and when it does the whole "desktop" is been redrawed of course this not always happen, sometimes it's very fast.
Also sometimes scrolling between the windows is very fast but sometimes very slow. And this lag is present when using several launchers, apex pro, nova or touchwiz, and i don't have much widgets running.. exactly the same as my galaxy s2 which can handle all this light usage without a problem..

Gee I dont experience any of those problems.
Scratch that - I do get desktop redrawn if I play a heavy game for a while. I do remember seeing it put back the weather and the icons. Nothing I would consider a showstopper nor can I make it happen on demand
I am using the default Samsung Touch Wizard and no other launcher
Good luck in your quest of the Lag Beast

[Q] Phone Setup Suggestions

Everyone should be getting their phone in the next few days. I am coming from iOS so I am not 100% sure about all of androids apps and features. I have spent a lot of time in the last month learning as much as I could about switching over but I would like to get some opinions from everyone. I hope this will also help any other novice users get the most out of the note 3.
1. Are you going to use a launcher .. if so which one? why?
2. What apps will make using the note more enjoyable/easier?
3. What apps can I wow people with a demo of?
4. Any other general app recommendations?
5. What general settings should I initially use? or disable?
6. Anything I missed for a first time android user?
1) NEXT Launcher 3D
2) NEXT Launcher 3D
3) NEXT Launcher 3D's "Swing with Scroll" feature

Welcome aboard! Here's the first thing you'll have to deal with: Size. The Note 3 (I have a Note 2) will seem huge and you may get buyer's remorse. Most of us do. It wears off in a couple of days, though and then you'll wonder how you dealt with such a small phone.
1. I use Apex launcher. Why do I use a launcher? Because I like to change the number of rows/columns from the standard setting. I also like to eliminate the Google search bar. And, I like using gestures to go to apps. I use swipe-up for Google Now and swipe-down for notification shade. Why do I use Apex instead of others? No particular reason but it seemed to have the most available features for a free version at the time. I have since paid for it.
2, There are a bazillion apps. But, coming from the iPhone I would first experiment with keyboard replacements. Why? Because you can and the iphone users can't. Try Swype or Swiftkey. Swiftkey is amazing at guessing what your next word will be. Most of all, get used to swiping instead of typing. Once you get good at it it's MUCH faster than typing. Then show that off to your iPhone buddies and say, "Take that!"
3. If you really want to dazzle people with your new phone find a high def YouTube video (the Vevo ones are good). Playing a beautiful video on a large screen has some really powerful WOW! factor.
4. Some apps I use a lot:
Color Note - A great note and checklist app that syncs via the cloud.
Chrome Beta
Flixter for getting movie times and watching trailers
Gas Buddy to find cheap gasoline
Amazon App store. A free app every day. You have to side load it, it's not in the Play Store.
Droid of the Day - A new app suggestion every day
Timely - One of the most beautiful alarm clock apps. It also syncs with all your devices
The usual apps: Netflix, Pandora, Watch ESPN, HBO Go, Dropbox, et al.
5. I turn off Auto display brightness. I leave my Note 2 at full brightness all the time. The battery can handle this just fine.
I leave GPS, Wifi, and NFC on all the time.
Make sure you setup Google+ to automatically upload your photos
6. Don't go too crazy downloading apps. You may find your battery suddenly draining too fast. If you don't like or use an app delete it immediately so it won't eat battery.
Good luck and have fun.

Nova Prime because it is better than TW in every way.
Ok I will answer some of my own questions from using the device the last 10 or so hours I hope this helps someone else. Please add suggestions because I am still getting used to everything.
1. Nova launcher seems to be easier to use because it takes all ur tw settings and imports them. It makes it easy to switch between the two. I like the tw weather widget better though
2. -I still need to find a good email client that syncs the few accounts that I have together. I haven't looked into this yet.
-Equalizer is a really good app to put more bass or customize the sound of your music.
-Adblock plus is really nice to have while browsing the internet .. I always hated that I couldn't use it on the iphone.
-The adapt sound settings helped make my headphones sound a little better. I use an aux in on my car so it kind of sucks that they don't have profiles for different sources.
3. -Next Launcher is really nice to show people but I don't know if I could use it everyday and its 3x the price of other launchers.
-Real Racing 3 is a nice demo game but good old angry birds star wars 2 probably looks the best and it has a note 3 achievement
-slow mo camera is really nice but anything less than 1/2 speed and the image starts to look very grainy .. 4k really has a wow factor even on the 1080p screen.
4. Sketchbook for Galaxy is a lot of fun to draw in with the s-pen.
5. -I followed this guide for disabling some of the bloatware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478448
-I also disabled most of the air hover features because they are nice for demoing the device to someone but I probably won't use them. Plus I wear glasses and it doesn't seem to detect my eyes very well.
-People are reporting poor wifi and one of the settings suggested is to turn off network auto connect.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472779 .. I experienced the problem but reset my router and it seems fine now.. not sure if its a software glitch or what.
6. -Here is a useful guide on how to transfer your contacts : http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/transfer-iphone-contact-to-android/
-The only thing I am missing from iOS are the nice lock screen notifications. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know

1. I have been using Nova for a while on my Galaxy Nexus, and use it on my N3 now too. It's not too bloated, allows custom number of icons per row/column, gestures, and resize all widgets. I used to use Apex, and that was really good too, but I switched a while ago to Nova because there was some feature Apex didn't have, though honestly I don't remember what now, and they may very well have added it.
2. SketchBook Mobile by Autodesk (makers of AutoCAD and Inventor, among many other engineering-oriented programs) is kind of cool, it's a sketch program that you can do a lot with, and works well with the stylus. Not the most useful app, per se, but a fun "proof of concept" if you will, and it's free. I believe there's more options than the built in equivalent, though I haven't used either a ton yet.
3. Any high def media will look awesome. Show them Netflix streaming, or as someone else said, HD Youtube, or any other HD video. Even pictures taken with the camera look great, simply because of the huge high res screen. Pictures taken with the phone probably would look even better on the screen than ones taken with another phone with a better camera but worse screen, because it's still small enough to cover up minor imperfections, but big and crisp enough to really look amazing.
4. For a music player, I like PowerAmp. It's got a really good equalizer, and a ton of settings to play with. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of the interface, but it's not awful. You can also customize the widget as much as you want, in terms of colors, fonts, transparency, buttons, size, what's displayed, etc.
I also use UberSync for Facebook, which lets you use sync HD pictures from facebook as contact photos. You can also import birthdays into your calendar, if you want, and some other info from people's profiles. You can choose what resolution to use, how often to sync, and only use wi-fi if you want.
5. I turned off all of the Smart features and that kind of thing. I don't want to control my phone with my eyes or hand gestures, I want to use it with my hands or S Pen. Of course that's fully a matter of preference. Also I noticed that the setting to alert you if you walk away without putting the S Pen back in is disabled by default, so I enabled that. I still worry I'm going to lose it sometime, but that's just because I'm forgetful.

Color OS v2.1 for Onyx (SCREENSHOTS PROVIDED)

Hey, guys. This ROM is originally made by Shumxin, I am just sharing it because I recently started using it and I actually liked it a lot. It is based on Android Lollipop 5.1.1. The SCREENSHOTS are given in the attachments. (I am using UPPERCASE letters so that you don't ignore the important parts.)
Here are it's pros and the cons, followed by a conclusion;
PROS:
1) The system is VERY smooth and works lightning fast. Your phone won't lag a bit. (More than 2 GB of RAM stays free when idle, shown in screenshot)
2) FANTASTIC BATTERY LIFE. Battery usage is VERY LOW, this is what impressed me the most.
2) Even though the UI's default theme is very boring, you can spice it up with a theme, like the one I used. There are ABOVE hundreds of THEMES available.
3) Camera app has some nice features add.
CONS:
1) You'll probably run away after reading this; Gapps cannot be flashed while using this ROM. However, you can download it externally. But once everything has been installed (including the Play Services framework), the Play Store crashes in some cases, and in the other cases it won't connect to the servers. And here's a problem for Clash of Clans players; even if Google Play is installed, you won't be able to play COC and all other games that requires Google Play.
2) The market is very messed up, well, for who doesn't know Chinese language
CONCLUSION:
If you are a gamer, this ROM is a straight no. And if you were wondering about how can we download applications, we can always download the apk files from apkmirror.com and alternative website (Google up).
If you are a regular user seeking for fluid performance and good battery saving options, this ROM is a MUST. Trust me when I say this, you'll love it.

AFAIK, there's a setting in COS, that let's background apps to be FCed that you need to enable for Whatsapp to run in background in COS. I used COS on my Oppo Find 7S, till I relinquished it to my wife....enough knowledge is enough...
