I am having issues with using the Grooveip app on the Nexus 4. It has happened with stock rom with stock kernel, and same stock rom with Franco kernel. It seems when I make a call outbound the person recieving it just gets deadair and the Grooveip app closes and then app restarts. I can get it to work calling to cell phone #s and calling business#s ie tested calling Comcast#, but seems not work on some landline#, vontage viop #s. I assume it is a possible update issue with app vs new Jellybean as app not been updated in Google Play store for awhile, but I tried to find an alternative workaround.
What I have done:
1) did master clear
2) reinstalled app
3) tried different configurations of settings of the echo settings to troubleshoot settings for wifi etc on the app settings
4) double checked all google voice fowarding-settings was correct.
5) tried it at different good data wifi connections
Any other ideas to get this working or any other good apps for Nexus 4 I can use to make calls with google voice?
Thanks

From the first moment I started the phone and booted up Voice, I've had some small issues. I'm posting here to see if anyone else has had similar issues.
When I was setting up Voice I received a message that the "forwarding number change [was] unsuccessful". I haven't noticed any particular issues resulting from this, but still, it was disconcerting. You can check to see of you have the same issue by going to Settings > Call Settings > Voicemail Settings (if you are using voice) > and then click on your phone number.
The second issue is that the ringtone is stuck as the defualt beeping noise that the phone makes on shutdown... This is when people call me on my voice number. Ringtones for contacts calling my AT&T number are working fine.
I'd love to hear if anyone else is experiencing this, and especially if you found a fix!
Thanks.

Yeah, I forgot about that--I got a voicemail notification 2 hours after the phone call yesterday. An outgoing SMS froze too.

did you go to google.com/voice from a PC and change your settings there? When I first got my Atrix, the Google Voice was set up for my Nexus One and didn't work (even after configuring) on my Atrix. So I had to tell it I had a different phone, it gave me a number with hash symbols (#) to punch in the dialer and hit "call". this then forwarded my number to google voice for use with voicemails. I now have no issues with Google Voice... well, I have one issue. The proximity sensor doesn't turn off the screen when I put the phone up to my ear to listen to a voicemail like it did on my Nexus One.
I ran into the same issue when setting up about the number unsuccessful, but I went into phone options in settings and manually changed the carrier. I havent had any other issues, all notifications are instant and I have a custom ringtone.
Is google voice good what's the point of it

It's amazing! It's the best way to get Visual Voicemail on an Android device and it's free. To be honest if it wasn't for this app, I would have stayed with my iphone as giving up visual voicemail was a no go for me and the other apps on the market for it were not to my liking.
Once you set it, it will alert you when a voicemail comes in and also transcribe it for you. Aside from that you can even have it send an e-mail to you when voicemail comes in, you can also use voice to make calls, send texts, and much more. Best of all, it's free!
@OP: Mine did the same thing, but I haven't had any issues. If you are getting delays in the notifications, load up google voice and go to settings. From settings make sure "synchronize inbox" and "background data" are enabled.
So I got it but it keeps saying forward voice mail unsucsesful any ideas

Thanks--this is the answer. I too came from a Nexus One and I didn't change any of the settings at first. I had to delete my old forwarding number (which requires another forwarding number to be on the profile), and then make a new forwarding number profile (for my Atrix). This fixed my different ringtone issue as well. Took a few tries and wasn't as smooth as I would have liked, but I got it working--I wasn't doing well without my GV!!
Im routing my calls through voice but every once in a while a lady says "this call is now being recorded". I didn't hit anything. It seems random. Any ideas?
I've just found I can't get google voice work to make international calls. I've rooted the device the day before yesterday, also add side loading. Yesterday I've patch the libaudio.so. But today when I tried to make international call with Google Voice, I found Google Voice won't pop-up when calling, then the call would fail due to the limitation of my plan... It's quite annoying.
In fact I am not sure which step caused this. Anyone can help? Thanks!
I have just tested this on my phone, which has the same mods on it (root, v1.5.7, libaudio.so) and google voice worked.
Did you check if it is switched off? Or maybe try a reboot?
I just tried it. If I chose make all international call with google voice, it would work automatically. But if I chose let me decide it each time when I make a call, it won't work, and no choices would be provided when I call...

Hmm, both scenarios work on my phone. Did you try reinstalling Google Voice?
I know this is not much help but since no one else is replying I just decided to throw my 2 cents.
Strange enough... I've reinstalled/rebooted, it didn't work. But I just find change the option then change back works... Seems something was cached even after reinstall, but change option make it clear and work again...
Thank you!

Hi,
I'm very satisfied with my nexus 4 exept one thing: When I use the integrated VOIP / SIP function, I have a very poor audio quality with echos on both sites. However Skye is working fine (on speaker).
Does anybody know about this problem and how to fix it? With my other phone (Defy with CyanogenMod 10, thx quarx) it is working perfectly fine.
thx
inso
Google hasn't bothered to develop the native SIP client so it's very crude and realistically unusable. It is integrated though, which makes it so appealing.
What you need is a SIP client that supports a packet loss / jitter tolerant codec like speex, ilbc, silk, or even g729.
Skype at least in the past used silk.
You may want to look into sipdroid or csipsimple. I'd love to use csipsimple, but last I used it, there was a nasty loop glitch when using it with google voice

Thanks for the fast reply. I'll give csipsimple a try.
inso
do make sure to disable all codecs but that aren't packet loss / jitter friendly.
no g711 etc.
yes to speex, ilbc, g729, and to a lesser extent, gsm.
Unfortunately the echos still occured, even with csipsimple. I now fixed it by installing CM 10.1. Just in case anybody else has got this problem.
Again, thanks for your help
I haven't had many problems with it. I had one person say it echoed on their end but no one else. I haven't heard any echoes.
My problem is with trying to use Google voice. If I set the app to use voice for all calls it doesn't give me an option to call with internet. If I don't use Google voice it gives me the option to internet call. I would Prefer to be able to keep my Google voice settings the same but I had to set it to " ask every call". This way I can say " without Google voice" then get the option to use Internet calling.
But I don't want to just select " don't use Google voice for any calls". That would give me the option to use Internet calling every time but wouldnt use the correct number when I don't use Internet calling.

In that case, set Android to always use internet calling, and set GV to prompt. Then if you hit yes, it'll use GV and dial out. If you hit no, it'll use internet calling.
But, I don't know how satisfied you'll be with the native client... Poor codec choice.

I'll give that a shot and see how it works.

What ROMs have you flashed on your SPH-L720 that work with FreedomPop LTE and 3G? If so, did you add or flash any new APNs? Everything about this phone is so confusing, I'm just going to start a thread here.
Using stock rooted rom on sph L720T. I have google hangouts installed and use my Google voice number for texting and calls. This gives me voicemail as well as the ability to send MMS messages. Although hangouts is set as the default messenger, the stock address book still goes to the default dialer which does not work. So I have to choose a number / person from within hangouts to either call or text. I think there is an Xposed module to fix this, but have not yet tried it.
I use titanium and greenify to freeze or hibernate a lot of batter sucking apps. The FP app is greenified as I do not use it for incoming calls - I use google voice / hangouts.
This week I updated to Oxygen OS 9.0.12 and updated my Google voice as well to 2019.07.232051384.
Now wherever I try to make a call using the stock rooms dialer I get the error:
Google Voice Calling Prohibited.
The Google voice app must be updated to continue calling with Google voice.
My only option then is to use my carrier number.
Anyone else having this issue? Since I updated the Oxygen OS and Apps same day I have no idea which side is broken. My note 9 runs the identical version of Google Voice and neither phone show any newer version available and the Note 9 works just fine.
So upon further testing I found something interesting. It seems like when I use the Switch Data Card option the correct APN for each sim card do not properly switch over. Oddly the internet and data still work and I can make calls in Hangouts just fine, however I can't dial from Google voice or the native dialing app using voice, I CAN send and receive SMS.
When I switch the data card then manually go in and swap APN the dialer and Google voice app start working properly without any errors.
Shouldn't the Switch Data Card option automatically select the correct APN or at least the last one used for each respective SIM?
I am using TMobile sim1 and ATT sim2
