Hi folks,
I'm looking to buy one of the Razr M Dev version. Before I spend the cash I wanted to confirm a few things w/ folks who already have either version of the phone.
Any known issues with using these guys to tether?
How well does the radio work over seas?
Sim card size?
Will it take a 64 GB card?
Any other gochas that folks can think of?
Best and thanks!
Feend
This phone is absolutely same as non-dev. Except you can unlock it's bootloader on motorola website.
Same specs, same SIM size, same radio etc., 64Gb SD is supported - you can find thread with confirmation here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1937437

Thanks for that,
Do you think its worth the 170$ to get that dev version or are people having good luck using the safe strap program ?

The Dev edition will eliminate the need to partition what little internal storage there is but that seems to be the only real advantage.

Sounds like I should just get the regular one then. Seems to be that all of the roms are designed to use safe strap.

Last time I checked, the dev and the retail were the exact same price unsubsidized ($549). In that case, unless you could get it under contract for $99 (or even $50), it made no sense at all *not* to buy the dev edition. Where are those $170 you talk about? Maybe there is a discount for the retail version somewhere?

I was lurking about E-bay. There are a few listed for less than retail. Also noticed an "i" version w/ Intel processor but GSM Arena didn't say any thing flattering about it. I'm in AU and they run 600AU$ but are unlockable via the same Dev site. So I save 50$ by ordering the Dev one via the states.
I'm a bit put off by the lack of Development on these awesome handset though. Was starting to entertain other manufacturers because of it.
Noticed that the RAZR M XT905 is the Aussi version and does not have the version branding and locked boot loader, might have to pony up for this one 600 AUD...
Cheers,

Right, I was thinking that. I could flash an Aussi radio on it but the way it looks now I'm going to get the XT905 not the USA model.
Or just continue using my old desire w/ CM7 on it. Still runs great minus the flash.

All,
Last year samsung released their developer VZW N2 in 6-8 weeks.
Any info on the N3 dev edition ( 16 or 32 GB - I assume it will be black) ?
Any possible issues with availability of the device ( the S4 was out of stock for "months").
I see that there is not much hope that devs can crack this device after release -last year N2 was jailbroken in less than 14 days after release
Update:
Black ,32GB ,storage, 3200mah
Reps are saying first part of nov.
Lets see which developers will support this device
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SM-N900VMKEVZW-specs
VZW is only offering the 32 GB version, I really argued with them about it and got transferred to their marketing department that makes such decisions, had to leave a message and nobody called me back of course. I would assume a Dev version would be 32 or 64 but there's no way you'd see a 16GB version. Maybe the 64gb version is not available because (I read this somewhere on XDA) only the 32gb version supports LTE. The non - LTE chip requires more memory to give the same performance as the 32gb LTE version.

Aha,
thanks.
We will call u back.sure.
I am assuming that that dev edition will be avail soon - a couple of weeks after the mainstream edition. 64 would be nice, but oh well..
If dev cannot crack this open I will have to wait for the dev edition. Safe strap works on S4 but if prefer the real unlock.
N2 was (is a beast) as far as development goes.
any heads up for the timeframe of release?
thanks
abe
Verizon's GN2 Developer Edition went up mid December last year so who knows it could come sooner. But don't expect a 64GB version we won't get it.

So a couple of weeks of extra wait. I want to wait to see if the reg edition gets jbed then get it if not get a dev ed.
Still hugging that unlimited. For now.
Thanks
If you buy a Verizon Developer Edition through Samsung, can you still get the Asurion insurance through Verizon?
In the past when I changed phones on my account I simply updated the info with Verizon so they could or should know what I was covering/insuring with them. So long as the phone is functioning at the time you add it you "should" not have any issues.
Do we know for sure vz will be getting a developer edition? I haven't heard a thing about it.
Ive read rumors on interwebs saying both will and wont get dev edition. I withdrew my preorder to wait and see if we can get it unlocked. I have faith in adam outler. He seems good at sticking it to verizon. If dev edition comes out first I'll go that way. I've experienced safe strap and theres nice features and drawbacks to it. Unlocked is definitely worth the wait

Adam stated in a post recently that he is done with Samsung products and is advising everyone to go with a different brand phone.
I was all set to pre-order an N3 and sell my mint N2, but after realizing all the downsides of a phone locked up that tight I decided to stick with the N2 for now.

I don't think there will be a Dev edition. Unfortunate.... I think I'm gonna give the g2 a try..a Lil smaller than I want....but its not locked down.
My plan is to buy the retail version then sell it if the Dev drops or return it if there is an announcement within two weeks.
For those with more Patience it might just be worth the wait!

I'm with ya on that I'm just gonna buy the Note 3 and let the devs work their magic. I'm sure they'll be able unlock it or at least have a work around like kexec. But if all fails I'll just sell mine to a stock user and go for the developer edition.

Adam is done with samsung devices...especially since they went back to qualcom processors. If the N3 had a Exynos processor Relekdev might have a chance. However Qualcom processors utilize qfuses, which once blown, make unlocking a encrypted bootloader about 99% impossible.

yes it is. the difference is that it has access (currently) to loki, a tool that will allow a development community to grow, however it can and will be patched.
So development seems really lacking (coming from a vzw Gnex) for the moto X.
And everyone seems to also really love the stock rom.
Would the Dev edition be worth getting or a custom built phone (wood backs :drool?
I'm holding out for Moto Maker access on Monday. Would LOVE to see the wooden backs available the same time... super nifty.

Depends.... Can you make due with 16gig, and/or waiting on exploits to be found and rom to be rooted when new updates come out?
I ordered the Dev edition because I wanted 32gig and unlocked boot loader so I can always easily root, and if the need/desire to flash a custom rom comes I can.
WIth the history of rooting the X, getting a moto maker x if they have a 32gig for vzw, might not be too bad.

I won't be able to make do with 16gig so I was hoping moto maker will offer 32gb. if not than dev edition for me. I have about 20 gigs used on my Gnex now.
rooting doesn't seem to be too big of a problem and unlocked bootloader is nice but if there are not enough custom roms and kernels than it's almost pointless.

I appears that the Motorola 'Moto G' 'Falcon' is the new Fascinate/Galaxy S...

I mean gosh, just like our beloved phone, they have all the variants
cdma - for Verizon, Sprint, Boost
gsm - AT&T, T-Mobile, International
LTE - US or International versions
Prepaid mvno's ... and more
8GB OR 16GB, and the lte versions have removable micro sd
1GB Memory
1.2 GHZ quad-core snapdragon 400 processor
Adreno 305 GPU
2070 mAh battery
5mp rear camera w/flash
1.3mp front camera
4.5 in display
So, it's
physically same size as the fascinate, but more screen real estate, better pixels, faster everything, barely any heavier, development galore, and that price!!!
the cdma Boost Mobile model (3g only) which is only 8 gb and no micro sd expansion slot can be had for $75 BRAND NEW (street pricing), no contract, & shipped to your door!
Did i mention it's readily and easily rooted and flashed over for use on pageplus!
I'm really just floored!!!
I got this moto g as an entry phone for my wife's mom and her 1st smart phone,,, but after seeing how nice it is and how great & smooth and easy to work with no major hoops to jump through,
I'm seriously considering jumping ship quickly...
Just have to figure out if i can handle living with only 8gb storage on a phone...
which is only 6mb usable after the os is all said and done...

well... The Boost version (XT1031) can be unlocked by way of a code provide by Motorola.
Motorola will not provide a unlock code for the Verizon version (XT1028).
The Republic Wireless (CDMA) and AIO (GSM) versions are also "not eligible" for the bootloader unlock codes from Motorola.
the Republic wireless is the only one I'm aware of that is a 16gb model cdma version
I jumped from the Fascinate to the Moto G quite a while ago, but I came back to the fascinate forums because my fassy is used in my car as a media player. That being said, the Moto G is fantastic! The way I get around the small storage space (I have the Boost Mobile flashed to Page Plus) is to use a usb drive. This is the one I use. Some users have reported issues with USB OTG with the newest CM11, as well as a few other versions, but I've not had a problem. In fact, I'm running stock with Xposed + Gravitybox. First time I've ever run a phone on stock and been satisfied.

Thanks again, i was just wondering and reading about using a otg cable and a flash drive (usb drive).
I didn't know they made a drive with the micro usb!

and the pricing is right in line with normal usb storage

$16 - 32 gb

Glad I could help. I will warn, though, the Verizon Moto G can't have its bootloader unlocked, nor can it be used on anything but Verizon for at least 6 months. If you intend to use it like that, by all means, go for it. However, if you plan on using it on Page Plus, get a Boost Mobile Moto G. Boost Mobile is the only "branded" Moto G that can have its bootloader unlocked, and since it has the same radios as Verizon, it works if you flash it (which is actually pretty easy).
im starting to wonder why almost none of the carriers are letting people unlock the bootloaders on their moto g devices (with the exception of boost..)
i guess its the same reason, for example, the s4 isnt bootloader unlockable if you had it upgraded past the original bootloader (aka MDK). its all about money.

Yup, more proof of their deceptive story lines. Trying to make us believe that with their subsidized pricing/contracts is 'helping' us 'save' money it's really only lining their pockets with more green...
I upgraded my Mom and GF to the Moto G from the HTC Droid Incredible on Pageplus. They like it and the difference is night and day. Only negative is the non removable battery and no micro SD card. Phone misbehaves when you fall below 10% free space. Boost version was available from Target for 59$ earlier last week.
As for me, still using the Fascinate till it dies or something better comes my way.

I know that's why i posted this thread originally for those like myself who were not aware, at the time,,, now routinely under $100 and generally $75 or $65.
This makes it a fantastic choice to move from our slowly dying barely supported funky partitioned phone!
Or the extremely cheap like myself !
Like mentioned the 'otg' cable or otg device makes storage a virtual non issue.
are you all buying the 8GB moto g or the 16gb one? i'd get the 16gb if i were you.. and if money's not as much of an issue.
There is nothing bigger than the 8gb boost version that will work with Pageplus. There are other varieties that work with other carriers but not Pageplus.

Hi, I just read that the Developer Edition Moto X is being sold for just $229 on eBay. This is a pretty good deal for anyone who was considering buying a Moto X. International shpping is relatively low too!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Motorol...2GB-4-1-GSM-Unlocked-US-Warranty/221595159583
I agree. I was fortunate to have purchased a 64GB T-Mobile/Unlocked XT1053. I doubt we will see those again. Even the new 2014 Moto X Pure Edition is not offering 64GB.
I bought one, but just noticed this Reddit thread that suggests the GPS might not be working on them... anyone have any info relating to this?
I'm hoping that the reddit thread is malarkey. I just contacted the seller about this. I'll send it back unopened if this is the case. The ad said nothing about this. I read looking forward to getting this phone! Fingers crossed is not true!
Just reread the ad on eBay, GPS is listed as a feature. It states the phone is brand new in box with 1 year Moto warranty. Be cool if one child get moto care for it as well. The phone is in transit, hoping to get it a day early.
I doubt the phone lacks GPS...I mean, Motorola would need to have a lot of faulty Moto's to make such lot of GPS-less Moto X's. I'm pretty sure it do has GPS, very few phones lack GPS nowadays.
Just received mine yesterday, and it arrived a day early, too! No issues whatsoever. It was completely brand new, unopened and untouched. Absolutely loving it so far. Currently been using an iPhone 6 Plus and a Sony Xperia Z Ultra, and I've got to say, its quite refreshing using a compacts sized phone that fits perfectly in the hand.

Hi, I ordered mine from the same eBay link a few days ago (the Moto x 2013 developer edition 32gb, at USD 229) and I'm a little worried because I'm from Argentina and besides the price of the phone itself I also have to pay someone in the US to bring me the phone here, so it's an extra 100 dollars for me.
Anyway, since you received yours already I need to ask you if everything was ok with it, I mean, is it brand new? unopened box? not refurbished and working perfectly fine for you?
Thanks in advance for the help! [emoji12]

As I said, it's a completely brand new and unopened unit - factory sealed and clear wrapped in original packaging (as far as I can tell, it's not a refurbished unit). No need to worry. And it's running absolutely smoothly. Near flawless performance considering the chip set it's running.

Great! Thanks a lot for the info! Hope it arrives soon!
@brodyr90
That's what I had hoped. Nothing but a troll thread on reddit. I ordered from same site. FedEx has had it since Wednesday afternoon & I can finally pick it up this afternoon.
What version Android came loaded? Any OS updates after firing it up?

It comes loaded with 4.4.2 but upon initial boot up, it prompts you to the latest 4.4.4 KitKat update.
ordered one also two days ago, the price as of today is $259, wiidbzxt thanks for starting this thread:good:
Seller is playing some games with pricing, it's been up and down over and over again.
With Lenovorola wanting an absurd $200 to replace the chipped screen on my GF's MotoMaker XT1058 this has a lot of appeal.
Bummed it's an XT1053, no T-Mo HSPA support. Did they make a 1058 Dev Edition, or only the ATT variants?

XT1053 is the T-Mobile variant. XT1058 is ATT. Check out the wiki variants its pretty informative. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moto_X
Anyone know where I can find the Verizon variant?

I'd recommend doing a search to find out what bands of LTE ATT is currently using in your area.

You're totally right, suffered a moment of brain fade. 1053 is the one to have from a U.S. GSM band perspective.
Got one @ $259.99. Can’t wait for it to arrive, obsessively checking if seller shipped it yet.
