Tried flashing 1 pass/1 fail - Continuum General

So I have the latest stock upgrades but was tring to flash this puppy last night. Bloatware is gone but I do not see that the rom took. I was trying to load muini or something like that, the name escapes me. I thought I followed directions but apparently not well enough. I have ec09 any ideas? My end goal is to stream line this so I can carry it well past my upgrade in march.
Sent from my SCH-I400

The rom u are trying to flash is older than ec09.
Latest is eg04.

So I need to flash eg04, then flash the custom rom. I'll keep digging in the forums and re read posts. I probably missed something. Especially if I thought I was up to date with ec09. Please forgive my noobiness. I will continue to learn and hopefully be able to contribute someday.
Ok, I see that eg04 is gb and nervous about taking the plunge, feel a little too noob for that.
And now I see what I was doing wrong, will try to flash again later, I miss read something and I think I was trying to load miunia when I wanted debellare.
Sent from my SCH-I400

Well since ur noobing and on ec09, root and debloat. We really don't have custom roms per say, just deodexed and slightly tweaked. I would if I were you just get familiar with what u have before moving on.

And that is what I shall do, thank you.

Np.

Is there a simple starter pack that I can flash via odin to start me towards gb and more importantly a usable ticker.

Well the whole (stock-leaked) eg04 rom and instructions are in dev thread. I'm going back to stock unrooted right now so I can test my repacked kernels. Ill pull files to make some odin images. I work in a cpl hours so hopefully can tar em up and get them uploaded tonight

You are awesome. I keep reading threads and doing a lot of googling to learn. I started down this path looking for programming guides as I embarked on some projects for work and started seeing what could be done. Unfortunately, none of my business degree classes were in programing, so I have to learn all that on my own.
Sent from my SCH-I400

I'm still at work but I did test my repack kernel it roots stock but debloat is needed to install busy box etc. But gonna get back to it after work

I won't try until sometime monday. Took the day off but have my 2 boys to deal with all day wife will be there but still not sure how much free time I'll have.

Thought I could use an eg04 recovery in cwm to flash gb. Will keep reading, advice always helpful. Was able to successfully flash deodex ec09.

I managed to flash tb's 101 everything for ec09 I love it, will try and make sure I have the most recent version. I also need a thanks a lot button. Expect the thanks button to be pushed as soon as I make it to the posts where the downloads are. woohoo
Sent from my SCH-I400

Get more comfortable flashing. Cause eg04 has more steps. been too busy to finish what I started on eg04.

I have been working on flashing things through cwm. I like it pretty well because is quick and i can flash without having to be connected to the laptop. I was able to get the everything mod flashed, but prior to that could not get the "..package.zip" file to flash and then the am/pm ticker mod would not flash either. Hololauncher would not load/install so there is still plenty to learn before attempting GB as a install. Any advice is always appreciated.

Rooting isn't hard at all. You should go ahead & root now
+1 on the root now. While your at it install a custom rom and you will love your phone. Odds are you can get the Froyo update right here before it hits OTA anyways.
Yeah I've rooted my vibrant before I had to get a new one. It is easy but I would probably have to un root it to update right?
Sent from my vibrant while I'm working. I love my job
I don't understand what waiting would do. What you should NOT do is get the Froyo update from T-Mobile, as there is a chance that they will push an update that breaks your ability to root with 2.2 and you will have to wait even longer.
I recommended you root now, install Rom Manager, go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813001
Download Fusion 1.1 to your SDCARD (I have a folder called ROMS) and go to Clockwork, reboot into Recovery, Reinstall Packages, Install ZIP from SDCARD, choose Bionix 1.1, wait, and then see what that phone is really capable of.
Using Fusion 1.1 makes me not mind waiting for Froyo.
Yeah you are right it's just I haven't got to comfortable w/ flashing roms just yet. Looks a bit hard I guess I will just keep watching the videos on it till I feel like I can do it
Sent from my vibrant while I'm working. I love my job
Flashing roms is super easy as long as you're using ones flashable through rom manager. I must warn you it's very addictive. The only thing I would say is make your you backup in case something goes wrong and avoid Voodoo until you've flashed a few times and feel more comfortable. Great thing is there is tons of support here. I suggest you try Bionix Final.

Dooo eeet!
Yes, it's daunting at first to flash a new ROM, but I just did it for the first time a few weeks ago and it was simple and easy. Just read up as much as you can and then write up a "roadmap" on all the steps you need to take, before, during, and after. It removed a lot of headaches for me because I planned it all out and had all the software ready in case anything went wrong (Odin, stock ROM, etc.). If there are any gaps in your understanding or questions about a process, ask them here before you flash!
I would root it and load a custom ROM, waiting for official OTA update to Froyo is like playing a Russian roulette now. Look what a simple update that was suppsoed to address GPS and other issues did to your fellow TMO users.
As always, there will be people who wouldn't even know that you can root the device to make it your own, so they will always run stock, and complain to TMO when they click MobiTV app and never use it, but have to cough up 10 bucks a month for it (it is just an example).
If you came here you know that you can do something to your phone besides waiting for Froyo, take a full advantage of what is offered in the dev section, and don't forget to support the developers if you like the work they do
Ok I'm reading the thread you posted how do I preform nandroid back up?

If you are going to root, you might as well just do it.
Froyo could easily be 2-3 months down the road yet.
you need ROM manager...
it took me forever to find a how-to on this exact thing.
You have to be rooted in order to accomplish this:
1. root (obviously)
2. download ROM manager
3. open ROM manager and click on 'Flash ClockworkMod Recovery' and pick your phone.
4. click 'Backup Current ROM'
5. Let it do it's thing... it's going to reboot and run in recovery then reboot again.
6. You are done!!
To recover, you have to boot into clockwork recovery and click restore then pick the date file you made to recover to that date!
** If any of this is wrong, please call me out!!
Yeah, I started doing all this before I even discovered ROM Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery. Those tools definitely make everything so much easier.
Make sure you have the following software tools:
ADB
Odin
Rom Manager (w/ ClockworkMod Recovery installed)
Titanium Backup
Also, make sure your phone is not hardware locked before you begin. Try the standard procedure to enter Recovery Mode; if your phone is hardware locked, run the flashable fix (found in the dev forum) so that you have some way of recovering from a soft brick.
From my experiences, rooting has always been the fastest way to get updates. Those rollouts take forever.
Just rooted and installed fusion 1.1 it's great thanx for the tips guys

lol. i was waiting for a froyo release, i flashed my g1 a bunch so flashing wasn't a big deal, but i was happy with the phone stock for a bit and didn't mind waiting. but i rooted after a week. was flashing smaller things like ji2 gps, getting rid of bloatware, changing bootup/shutdown, etc. a couple weeks later. and a couple weeks after that i started flashing roms.
moral of the story? just root and start flashing now, it's a long wait.

All in one guide request

I have been recently finding that their is a lot more noobs coming here to flash SC 2.6. I also have noticed in order to flash 2.6 they have to go on a scavenger hunt to do so. I think if no one makes a guide on how to flash everything from modem to clockwork then I will.

Help with flashing CM7 on my fascinate (Using COMROM)

I am using comrom 2.1, and i cant seem to find a guide to help me flash the new cm7. If anyone cant point me to a thread, or list in detail here what to do, we can try to make a sticky, cause im sure there are a ton of people just as confused as me . Thanks!

This is one of the first threads you'll (currently) see in the dev section as well as the 3rd result in a general search for "CM7, fascinate." Are you SURE you looked before posting? Anyways, follow those instructions and you should be golden. Good luck!

I approve of this simple guide.
I did it myself and worked perfectly...of course you should download the 7/18 update and flash that instead of 7/4 rom referenced on the guide.
You might also want to look further down the CM7 Thread. There have been a bunch of ROM/kernel updates from what i've read. Some fixing issues you might have from 7/18 build.

No disrespect intended here, but I recommend actively researching anything you find confusing in there; same applies for CM7 in general. Believe me, I understand where you're coming from and it took a couple months of lurking around the dev section before I was comfortable enough to even make my first post!
Having said that, I went to CM7 from UKB2.1 and may be able to assist. Which details have you confused / nervous?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I also understand where you are at, people just asking questions and not looking. I just had confusion with the whole process. But i have it installed now! but one problem, i have no recovery :/ . I guess installing it removed it?
Are you using the 3-button method? It's an adjustment, but that method is absent from CM7. You can only get there via adb or (much more simply) by selecting Reboot from the power button menu. You will then be given the choice to reboot into recovery.
EDIT: To clarify, this also means that you can no longer do a cold boot into recovery; if for some reason the Rom won't boot, your only real options are adb (only if you know EXACTLY what you're doing) or using Odin to return to stock and starting over from scratch.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Its absent from holding the power button aswell. I found out that i have to go to Rom manager and then boot into recovery that way. Thanks for the help everyone!
YMMV, but my understanding is that Rom Manager still doesn't play nice with the Fascinate. Personally, it's given me nothing but trouble regardless of setup.
Don't get me wrong, Koush has done a lot for Android development in general and I'm not knocking his work. However, the majority of feedback on Rom Manager I've seen from Fascinate users has been overwhelmingly negative.
EDIT: Make sure that Power Prompt is enabled. You will find it in Settings -> Cyanogenmod Settings -> Interface

Here are the exact steps I did today.
Flashed Completely back to stock
reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178544
Note: I just downloaded the file he included.
1. Odined the MD5 file from the aforementioned file
note: LET YOUR PHONE COMPLETELY BOOT UP BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE
your phone will boot as stock/unrooted/****cake
2. Odined Fixed CWM4 recovery *.tar file
You can download this recovery from jt's original post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116424
3. Boot to recovery using 3-button method (volume up&down + power [holding until recovery shows up])
4. Flashed 7/26 CM7 (updated by imnuts)
reference: http://imnuts.net/quXv55
5. Flashed GApps found in jt's post (link from step2)
6. Flashed DockandUSBAudio fix found in jt's post (link from step2)
7. Chose reboot system
8. $$
FYI: the Dock and audio usb fix contains the kernel by jt. I found the 7/26 build to be a bit more buggy (signal animation is messed up). at least call speaker now works. But ultimately i re-flashed the 7/24 build from imnuts and flashed the dockusbaudio fix to snag jt's kernel. (sum it up: im running the 7/24 build with dockusbaudio fix)
I state the following not as an insult, but as honest advice:
If you don't feel comfortable following the guide in jt's CM7 thread, you need to do more research on roms and kernels first. There shouldn't be any guesswork to it as long as one has an understanding of the steps involved, what each step does, and why it's necessary.
Yes, it is possible to "get by" with only a functional understanding of of how to flash things, for example, but that's why people end up with bricks after, say, flashing an Amend script in an Edify-only recovery.

Thanks for putting together this extra guide. I have been reading through the threads and know how easy it is to get lost on what information applies and what doesn't as things evolve.

Quick nod if I'm in the right direction here...

I'm updating my wife's rooted Epic from 2.2.1 to the latest EL30 Gingerbread release and am not seeing a thread that fully addresses the process here. I've been in HTC land for the past year and the whole odin/pit thing is completely greek to me, so I'm really concerned with making sure I don't brick her phone and get yelled at for spending 3 hours trying to fix what I just did
Are these steps correct?
1. Odin/Pit/Tar official EL30
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
2. Update CWM to 5.0.2.7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357655
3. Flash new ROM (Looking at SleeperROM)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465628&highlight=sleeper
I'm assuming that the new CWM has a one-click root method like before, but I cannot find the details in the thread. If not, do the instructions in the "Rooting EI22 after OTA or Google update [11/10]" still apply where I have to download the ACS recovery, or is there an easier method that I haven't found?
I apologize for the noobish post and I'm sure this info is in here somewhere, unfortunately after an hour of searching around I haven't found an updated root/upgrade method that makes this brainless.
Thanks

Your steps are correct.
Basically ODIN the official EL30 tar.
Then ODIN the tar version of CWM5.
This will automatically root your phone and install CWM5.
After that you can flash custom roms of your liking.
I would suggest CM9 beta as it is stable if you use your phone for basic stuff like calling/internet surfing, GPS and other minor tasks.

Correct. Make sure the md5's match. So everything will go smooth. You will wanna go to the link in qbking77 video for how to flash cwm 5.0.2.7. I believe is the right one. So you will use odin. Flash the tar. Make sure only reboot is checked. If you are coming from 2.2. And or a bml. Rom. Which. As you was saying it sounds like you are. I don't remeber which slot you put the cwm tar. In. But the video will guide you. . His videos. Comes in handy. If you need any more help. A lot of people will be more then happy to help. Further.

You don't need to make it ext4, you need a custom recovery so can flash ICS using CWM. The ICS zip will repartition and reformat anyway, so you have no need of converting to ext4.
You need a kernel with custom recovery (version 3.x or greater).

But I found this

Go there, and find on 2nd line that says Alroger's Downloads.
That points to Alroger's external site.
He has a P1000CDMA build of the "TE4M version of CM9"
That will be your best bet.
jt1134 is also a TE4AM dev I think, or at least lots of his code in it.

from what I understand, error 7 is when the device you are flashing is not supported by the package.
Say earlier you tried to flash a p1000 rom into a cdma device.
I am almost convinced that if you get the right package, namely the one for cdma or "p1c" build, you should be able to flash it.
jt1134 is the most knowledgeable on CDMA CM9 builds.
yeah im on p1c builds and cdma builds....do you think its because im trying to go from froyo right to ics with out gb? should i flash cubbed in heimdall (3.2.x) before going to ics? or does it not matter on this device?
once again im so thankful for your help
which CWM version you have?
Apparently you need to have the latest 5.x.x ?
3.0...damn i didnt even think of that and i sould have thats whats going on with the photon right now. trying now thanks
that worked! thanks for the help
