okay so iv had my tab for awhile now and had no need to root it since i used my phone for everything. iv been playing around on android for a bit now and before my milestone i had fun with windows mobile. so please do flame me as dumb and that i didnt look first. i see the bible for our tabs and that the root method doesnt work now. i used heimdall to flash a stock rooted ver of froyo and now it boots but i cant get past the activation screen. yes i have dont the vol up once vol down twice thing. it wont work and just sits on the screen. i can get past it. so now im about to go all the way back to stock and start over. if someone who is more familiar with the fourms then i am can post the links and steps i need to do to get back to a rooted tab that would be great and id be forever thankful. from then on im ok i bought that bootstrapper from the maket to save me time (plus i enjoy giving money to those who work hard for my free entertainment) oh btw should have said it first. i have the vzw i800 tab. thanks so much folks i really just want a working tab again. oh one last thing i have cm9 running ony my phone and love it...whats everyones thoughts on it for the tab?
once again thank you
so i get it this was a tall order and after getting everything working last night im up and runnning with a cwr rooted and on froyo....i wanna jump up to hc or cm9, or some kind of ics but i dont see much and the two i looked at and tried, the dl links are broke...so can anyone point me to the links of working hc or ics for a vzw tab please

i guess at this point i just need to make it ext 4. what vzw kernel is best for this? thanks for the replay
You don't need to make it ext4, you need a custom recovery so can flash ICS using CWM. The ICS zip will repartition and reformat anyway, so you have no need of converting to ext4.
You need a kernel with custom recovery (version 3.x or greater).

im good then i have cm on it and i think its 3.0 i tried flashing 5.x with rom manager and t started acting funny till i rebooted the recovery. i tried to install cm9 but it told me there was a problem with the package and gave me a code 7 i think. maybe it was a bad dl. ill try and redownload right now and try again. the first time i did everything manually but this time i was lazy and bought the bootstapper. i should be good right? thanks for your help.
i just re dl it and checked the md5. everything was fine. tried to install it and gave me the same thing. error in sd card/cm9 blah blah blah.zip (status 7) this is the step im having problems with
Which cm9 you tried to flash.
Maybe the GSM one?
Better go to rootzwiki.com and look for jt1134's ICS built there.

going to that site now. i hope it works. im kind of pissed off. every rom i try the dl link is broken or it doesnt flash. im back to stock re rooted and did the bootstrap. i just wanna get off of froyo at this point.
sorry if I am leading you on a chase.
I am not a CDMA user, that is why I don't really know where you should get your CDMA build.
But I found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24986629&postcount=756
Go there, and find on 2nd line that says Alroger's Downloads.
That points to Alroger's external site.
He has a P1000CDMA build of the "TE4M version of CM9"
That will be your best bet.
jt1134 is also a TE4AM dev I think, or at least lots of his code in it.

no your not leading me to anywhere bad. its just a lack of upkeep on a old deivce its just harsh. im on that site you told me about and im finding a lot. im thankful youre helping me with this. do you know why im getting a error code (status 7) any and everytime i try flashing cm9? this is the nly things that stands in my way
from what I understand, error 7 is when the device you are flashing is not supported by the package.
Say earlier you tried to flash a p1000 rom into a cdma device.
I am almost convinced that if you get the right package, namely the one for cdma or "p1c" build, you should be able to flash it.
jt1134 is the most knowledgeable on CDMA CM9 builds.
yeah im on p1c builds and cdma builds....do you think its because im trying to go from froyo right to ics with out gb? should i flash cubbed in heimdall (3.2.x) before going to ics? or does it not matter on this device?
once again im so thankful for your help
which CWM version you have?
Apparently you need to have the latest 5.x.x ?
3.0...damn i didnt even think of that and i sould have thats whats going on with the photon right now. trying now thanks
that worked! thanks for the help

Rooting isn't hard at all. You should go ahead & root now
+1 on the root now. While your at it install a custom rom and you will love your phone. Odds are you can get the Froyo update right here before it hits OTA anyways.
Yeah I've rooted my vibrant before I had to get a new one. It is easy but I would probably have to un root it to update right?
Sent from my vibrant while I'm working. I love my job
I don't understand what waiting would do. What you should NOT do is get the Froyo update from T-Mobile, as there is a chance that they will push an update that breaks your ability to root with 2.2 and you will have to wait even longer.
I recommended you root now, install Rom Manager, go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813001
Download Fusion 1.1 to your SDCARD (I have a folder called ROMS) and go to Clockwork, reboot into Recovery, Reinstall Packages, Install ZIP from SDCARD, choose Bionix 1.1, wait, and then see what that phone is really capable of.
Using Fusion 1.1 makes me not mind waiting for Froyo.
Yeah you are right it's just I haven't got to comfortable w/ flashing roms just yet. Looks a bit hard I guess I will just keep watching the videos on it till I feel like I can do it
Sent from my vibrant while I'm working. I love my job
Flashing roms is super easy as long as you're using ones flashable through rom manager. I must warn you it's very addictive. The only thing I would say is make your you backup in case something goes wrong and avoid Voodoo until you've flashed a few times and feel more comfortable. Great thing is there is tons of support here. I suggest you try Bionix Final.

Dooo eeet!
Yes, it's daunting at first to flash a new ROM, but I just did it for the first time a few weeks ago and it was simple and easy. Just read up as much as you can and then write up a "roadmap" on all the steps you need to take, before, during, and after. It removed a lot of headaches for me because I planned it all out and had all the software ready in case anything went wrong (Odin, stock ROM, etc.). If there are any gaps in your understanding or questions about a process, ask them here before you flash!
I would root it and load a custom ROM, waiting for official OTA update to Froyo is like playing a Russian roulette now. Look what a simple update that was suppsoed to address GPS and other issues did to your fellow TMO users.
As always, there will be people who wouldn't even know that you can root the device to make it your own, so they will always run stock, and complain to TMO when they click MobiTV app and never use it, but have to cough up 10 bucks a month for it (it is just an example).
If you came here you know that you can do something to your phone besides waiting for Froyo, take a full advantage of what is offered in the dev section, and don't forget to support the developers if you like the work they do
Ok I'm reading the thread you posted how do I preform nandroid back up?

If you are going to root, you might as well just do it.
Froyo could easily be 2-3 months down the road yet.
you need ROM manager...
it took me forever to find a how-to on this exact thing.
You have to be rooted in order to accomplish this:
1. root (obviously)
2. download ROM manager
3. open ROM manager and click on 'Flash ClockworkMod Recovery' and pick your phone.
4. click 'Backup Current ROM'
5. Let it do it's thing... it's going to reboot and run in recovery then reboot again.
6. You are done!!
To recover, you have to boot into clockwork recovery and click restore then pick the date file you made to recover to that date!
** If any of this is wrong, please call me out!!
Yeah, I started doing all this before I even discovered ROM Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery. Those tools definitely make everything so much easier.
Make sure you have the following software tools:
ADB
Odin
Rom Manager (w/ ClockworkMod Recovery installed)
Titanium Backup
Also, make sure your phone is not hardware locked before you begin. Try the standard procedure to enter Recovery Mode; if your phone is hardware locked, run the flashable fix (found in the dev forum) so that you have some way of recovering from a soft brick.
From my experiences, rooting has always been the fastest way to get updates. Those rollouts take forever.

lol. i was waiting for a froyo release, i flashed my g1 a bunch so flashing wasn't a big deal, but i was happy with the phone stock for a bit and didn't mind waiting. but i rooted after a week. was flashing smaller things like ji2 gps, getting rid of bloatware, changing bootup/shutdown, etc. a couple weeks later. and a couple weeks after that i started flashing roms.
moral of the story? just root and start flashing now, it's a long wait.
Hi, I've had my vibrant for quite a while it's been rooted ever since day 1. However I just got got Clockwork Mod working on stock 2.2 KA6. I'm now ready to flash a 2.3or 2.3.4 ROM and I wanted to know how do I go about it. I not sure if I can just flash over the stock 2.2 or not. I also hope I wouldn't have to resort to ODIN, as every one of my last several experiences with it was not good at all. Someone please help me out!
Someone please help I just want instructions how I can upgrade from stock KA6 to a 2.3 or 2.3.4 ROM. I would like to be able to do this without ODIN.
Hey bud, I'm kinda new on this board and not a super geek, but I might be able to point you in the right direction.
First of all, there's not an official Gingerbread release, so if you want it, you'll want to jump over the Development board (just go up a level) and find a ROM that is in 2.3. I know that Cyanogen is, for example, and there are a couple more.
What I did was to use Clockwork to do a backup (called a nandroid backup) and then I downloaded Cyanogen and used Clockwork to flash it. Quite simple and it sounds like you're all set up and ready to go.
Be advised that on (I think all) the 2.3 builds, you will have to give up on GPS. I had Cyanogen briefly just so I could check out streaming Netflix, but I had a few glitchy things like Swype to fix and decided just to go back to my Bionix ROM.
Hope that helps! Use the Thanks button if it did.
You can now get GPS with GB roms. You can even get wifi calling. Follow the instructions for the rom you want. CM7 is very easy to install.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Its very simple. Since you have CWM (clockwork mod) now installed its easy peasy.
What you want to do is find a rom... personallt im using the nightly builds of CM7... You can find it by going to the android development section of our phone...
Find the rom then download the .zip file and place it somewhere on your internal sd card. Dont put it on your external sd.
Then go ahead and reboot into cwm and clear ur data/cache. After that go ahead and install zip, choose zip file from its location, then install.
Once installed, reboot and viola!
Most of all read the installation insrructions listed as well so you dont screw up. Worst comes to worst and your not sure then stop what your doing and ask here!!
Good luck my friend

Hi guys,
I don't like when people post "how do I root my phone?" when you can search 100 threads to root your phone, so I was hesitant to post this, but I've been away a year or whatever it's been, and I see a whole bunch of new ROMS that are totally unfamiliar to me.
I chose Royal Ginger 1.6 (based on android 2.3.3) way back when (still have it) because I thought it was a stable, non-SENSE plain android ROM that was much faster than the sense that came with my mytough 4g. And I was right. I know it was updated to 2.0 and then the DEV stopped, or whatever the demise was.
I didn't update to 2.0 at the time since I have one of the "bad chips", so it wasn't compelling enough to risk something that was working fine.
I'm getting the itch again to update my phone - it's cheaper than getting a new 4.0 phone and a new contract and $$$. Figured if I slap jelly bean on this it'll make it feel like I got a free upgrade.
Mostly I'm after something that is solid and not something I'd look back and say "why didnt I just leave well-enough lone?" where I'd lose functionality in things I'm used to. (camera etc)
What's the new Royal Ginger nowadays? What's the no brainer ROM to flash when reliability and compatibility is concerned?
Should I go back to entertaining CM nightlies? It seems that some of the andoid v3 ROMS are stable, and what about andoid v4-- isnt that too much of a reach to make compatible with this aging glacier that we have? Not too buggy to use a jelly bean aopk 4.x.x on this?
Thanks for any input
If u wanna stay aosp wuth everything working I suggest cm7.2 stable or nightly that GB For ICS/JB I suggested AospX, or Dark Jellybelly or the port O.O all pretty stable with little to no bugs

question for you or anyone else reading this - maybe on that other thread I read about a guy who got into some boot loop trying to flash your rom I think the BR7 iteration, when he way trying to upgrade from royal ginger.
As I said that's the rom I have on there now, and so my brain brain froze a little while reading that.
Any people upgrading from Royal Ginger to this? Hey bootloop guy - did you ever get past your problem? (I think the responses to your post were to wipe again, reflash, etc etc, but I think you said you did that)
Thanks

He likely had an older version of clockwordmod (someone else had similar trouble on another ics/jb rom) so just make sure you update it if you haven't in a while. I'd also suggest using 4ext if you're not using it already as people on cwm seem to be having trouble using it with the OTA Updater. Also, it allows you to wipe everything you need to flash a rom with just one option.
I'm on royal ginger 1.6 from way last year, and am ready to flash your aospx mr1.
I have ROM manager 5.0.2.1 and with that I flashed CWM Recovery (it downloaded it over data network nice and fast), just 2 days ago, so it must be the latest.
So you're saying that 4ext may be less prone to error... If I go with that, where does that leave ROM Manager, it stays installed- there's no reason to uninstall it? And the CWM recovery? Does 4ext flash its recovery right over my existing CWM recovery?

I can help you but you do know that ICS isnt very stable yet and if ur not good with this kind of stuff shouldnt do it yet. But the ICS/JB without HW acceleration and working video recording and webtop work good. But if you still want to do it let me know ill help and let me know which ROM you want
@OP - OK for starters let's check to see if your bootloader is unlocked.
Turn off your phone and power it back up. Does it say "unlocked" in the top left hand corner? If so it's unlocked. It could still be technically unlocked without saying unlocked, but you would have had to flash a fruitcake to cover it up, and you probably would have known if you flashed a fruitcake already.
If you do feel brave, there are videos on YouTube showing how to unlock the bootloader (if you still need to) and also how to install CM7.
Unless you have the patience in dealing with bugs, IMHO you are better off "right now" using CM7 over ICS.
Just my opinion and best of luck...

I'd like to learn enough to be able to revert back to GB in the event the upgrade isn't for me. Or hopefully someone would help me go back if needed. Maybe I'm just believing what I see on the internet but I was interested in the recently "leaked" version of ICS...? Are you laughing at me write now? Well we can get leaked ICS on your phone but its battery life isnt great and some other bugs. Also when did you get your phone is it AT&T phone bought in US? Because newer Atrix cant be unlocked And it might brick our phone and you wont be able to do anything about it.
The question Stands above:
Do u need the camcorder?
Do u use a webtop?
When u answere one of these questions with yes, u should use a Stock based Rom or cm7; else i would prefer pinters jb.

The steps to unlock your phone will be based of that.

The steps in the thread below worked BEAUTIFULLY for me. Just check whether you've got a 32 or 64-bit version of Windows so you can download the correct drivers for RSDLite. Once you get the bootloader unlocked and a proper recovery partition on there, it's all downhill. Two weeks ago, I was a complete n00b and now I can flash ROMs onto my Atrix in my sleep. For the first time last night, I even flashed a ROM without connecting to my computer, but rather just by downloading the newest AOKP package from GooManager, copying it to the SD Card, then doing a dirty install via Recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
There's also an awesome YouTube video showing how to flash MIUI onto your Atrix, but you can use it for any ROM you like.
(Caution: Like everyone else here, I assume no responsibility if something screws up and your expensive phone turns into a paperweight. As my Atrix is roughly the same vintage as yours, I seriously do not believe that will happen, but everything here is of course at your own risk.)

Also when i do try to install some drivers off of one of the random links my computer says I have more up to date drivers already installed. Ahhh the short falls of the internet.

You can get the appropriate version of RSDLite and drivers (32 or 64-bit) from here:
http://androidadvices.com/download-install-rsd-lite-root-motorola-droid/
After that, it's just downloading the unlocker that says "ATT ONLY" at this link:

I sent you a PM.
Use the instruction in this link http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Motorola_Atrix_4G:_Full_Update_Guide... Everything works there.
And it's better to make a donation to XDA Developers projects to release a stable ICS/JB version
Wow, thats why i still like to come to this community and check whats going on around, even though i don't the phone anymore. OP started a thread, thats been asked tons of times, and no one have flamed him yet, on the contrary, everyone is trying to help him. If he would do this on the GS2 i777 general section, he would have got flamed and the thread would have gone totally offtopic about jokes and stuff like that.
Great community guys! Keep the Atrix forums like this!
PS: Sorry for the offtopic.
Same Atrix as mine
OK it looks like you have the same Atrix as mine.
I used this:

Basically it's a one step process for installing root and unlocking your phone. Unfortunately, it also comes with an outdated CWM.
So once you are done follow these instructions:
http://atrix4ghacks.com/atrix-4g-ha...d-recovery-5-0-2-3-on-rooted-atrix-4g-update/
That should be it. Good luck.
Hey guys, Im going to try and explain my situation as best I can. Im not a newb to rooting, etc, but I am no means an expert like most of you. So, with that said, here I go...
I had my Acer A500 rooted on honeycomb when I first bought, when it first came out. I then tried to do the OTA update of ICS many months back with no luck as it gave me the Triangle of death thing when it tried to install it. However it broke my root anyways even though ICS never installed. The weird thing though is that I finally realized my build version stated I was on ICS, but my Android version showed I was running 3.2.1 honeycomb!!!
Yesterday, I finally got fed up and spent hours searching this forum and others trying to find a solution.
On this page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816560), I tried flashing many of the full ROM's and update package ROM's and finally found one that worked under the update package...this one specifically (Acer_A500_7.014.16_041.206.01_COM_GEN1: ftp://94.23.233.147/Tablets/A500/Ace...1_COM_GEN1.zip). My tab booted and seems to be working fine and running 4.0.3 now.
So with all this said, my question to you Android Exerts...what the heck happened? How was I running an ICS build, but on honeycomb? Even though I flashed an update package, do I have a full ICS or do I need to flash a full ROM now?
If I need to flash a full ROM, which one should I do from the first link above?
I am also attaching a screenshot of my Acer tab to show you what Im running.
Please help and thank you to all in advance.
Anyone? I would really appreciate some help/feedback from you genius android guys.
Well, from the looks of things you are now on stock ICS....
To flash a rom ics/jb from here, u need to nvflash the unlocked boot loader package, which will include a custom recovery...
Most custom roms are pre-rooted so u won't need to worry about that...
Head over to civatos boot loader thread for a guide and d/l links
It can be a rather complex process but if u follow the guide to the letter, u shouldn't have any probs...
Go thru steps 1-4 first and then carry on to the actual flashing process.
There are auto-tools u can use...apxFlash Tool or afterOTA but I prefer the good old manual nvFlash method,
You will need drivers and your cpuid - see the guide in my sig if u need further info
Be aware that if u muck this up, u may end up bricked and lately there's been a lot of this....worst case scenario-fried m/board!!
Most folk flash with no troubles at all...the other 5%.....well......
There are some gr8 roms to choose from.....flexreaper, cm10 are my faves...but really, all the custom rooms here are fantastic and well supported.
If u need any further help feel free to ask!
And good luck
