Dead pixel! - Transformer TF300T General

Well...I woke up and switch on the tablet and A DEAD PIXEL APPEARED!
I got my tablet for like 8 month now and was wondering do you guys have dead pixel(s) over time? Well I'm rooted and have my bootloader unlocked so I can't return for warranty and for 1 dead pixel lol doesn't seems reasonable xD

Out of curiosity. Have you determined if the pixel is dead or just stuck?
I've had one instance of a pixel getting stuck. At first I thought it was dead. Rubbing it out worked for me. I had a few option to attempt to revive it. The simplest method worked luckily.

If you seek on your favorite search engine: recover a dead pixel (In case the de-http/www'ed of link sticker does not work..)
There are a few way to find out if it is actually dead, which is sort of rare. Versus simply being stuck. So don't give up at first. It may not be dead.

I think it's dead (really hopes its not)..... A black dot, how does yours look like?
Edit: i try poke it with the marker thing but it didnt work, you can see pressure on the screen but its still there, i wonder do dead pixels develops over time?

When I had the stuck pixel. It was also black.
For each pixel, there are three colors. Rotating between all three colors (Blue, Red and Green) in rapid succession sometimes fixes it. If none of the colors 'light up', it surely is dead and not rectifiable.
You can search you tube for: dead pixel fix. Just make sure the video is able to reach the spot where the pixel is affected. Full screen is easiest to achieve this. I suggest let it run for a few minutes at minimum. 10 would be good. Since sometimes it may take a while cycling colors, to get it going again.
Dead pixels can happen at any time. If you do not know.. Most LCD policies on dead pixels, below a certain amount are not considered defect. Asus I think is 5 pixels. One is definitely below that threshold.

A dead pixel is usually just that, dead. It affects a small percentage of lcds and the only real fix is to get a new screen. So either send it off to get a replacement screen fitted or a cheaper alternative is to replace it yourself.
Typically, defect of dead pixels (up to 5) is acceptable for a screen size of 7 inch, it is not subjected to manufacturer's warranty, same as for a laptop. It is under disclaimer notes. This is due to the properties of glass during manufacturing process.
I am not sure if Samsung will honour any wty claims on this?

If it's black, then it's probably dead and you can't fix it.
If it's a colour, then it's just stuck and (as you've tried) the jflasher app sometimes seems to work, you might need to leave it running for several hours though.
The early PSPs were terribly prone to stuck pixels, but they used very poor quality LCDs (hence the awful refresh rates), thankfully I've not had any recent devices (2 large TVs, tablet, phone etc) with any stuck pixels. I had an iMac for a while which had 3 stuck pixels, jflasher fixed one of them but the other 2 were stuck, one was about 2-inches to the right of dead centre and bright pink, so it was quite noticable.

Massage won't work on the tab, the glass is too thick.

Dead pixels?

Hi guys,
how many of you are you having troubles with dead pixels? I already returned my 7.7 two times (!) -two times a dead red (sub)pixel. The new one it arrived just now with a green dead pixel ;(
I don't know if i even dare to ask for a new one.
Could someone give me a reliable source? I'm sick of returning it over and over again.

Is it dead or stuck? If it is dead it will not light up. If it is stuck it stays on. If it is just stuck you can google video files that will attempt to unstick pixels.

Mine has no dead pixel, but there is a tiny dust between its front panel and OLED.
It looks like a dead pixel
Since I got from HK reseller, it's too hard to send back and exchange it.
Besides, I doubt they allow exchange for this case.
mine has one in the left bottom corner. I only notice if after I install honeybar. (the menu bar hide it pretty well; in portrait or landscape)
i got a red dead pixel also.. worse thing is i cant return it because i bought it at hongkong and i'm already at the Philippines even though its still can be replace because today is only the 4th day...

some apps claim to fix dead pixels by flashing red blue and green quickly to un-stick it. its rare that it works, but its worth a shot, try to find a free dead pixel fixer on the market.
Right - but a dead pixel isn't a stuck pixel. If there is no power getting to it, no amount of flashing or rubbing etc with give it power. It's dead.

true, although they are sometimes referred to as the same thing, so i wanted to let him know regardless. (didnt see the pics) that, and if its broke, and its a free try at a fix, why not try it.
Ran the pixel fixer app over night. Didn't work. I read on the Internet if you put pressure on it with like an eraser or something it would fix it. But that seems dangerous....

well it was worth a shot, best bet is to ignore it. or at least try, trust me, i know how hard that can be.
As Gamma said, if it's dead, it's dead.
I've seen people put a lot of pressure on a display, so a little bit I think will not hurt it. But, you may wind up with more dead pixels also if you press too hard.
MD

Stuck pixel driving me nuts.

Hooray. Until today I thought everything was ok with my new tablet, but then suddently I used it a little with brightness maxed out and I noticed that I have a stuck pixel. Initially it was white, then, after running some random "stuck pixel fixer" app (the ones flashing your screen with different colours) it turned to green. So now I have a nice green pixel showing off on every blackish page. When the screen is very dim I can't really see it (that's why I didn't notice it at first), but when brightness is maxed out it's very noticeable.
I already had similar issues on my laptop, with a couple of white pixels appearing after a while I had it (not presumably out of the box, like with this one), and those luckily went away after a few days. I heard that in these cases there's not much to do about it, and I also guess that most of the tricks used with with regular LCD panels (pressing it, shooting it with pressured air, tapping it and all the funny stuff) don't apply here, since the panel is under a slab of glass. Some say that stuck pixels will eventually start working back again after some time, but I really don't know what to think.
Sending the device for repair it's not an option because 1) It's not worth it IMHO 2) I guess they won't replace a screen with a SINGLE defective pixel 3) I got it off ebay so things may get more complicated and I don't wanna stay without my tablet for the rest of my vacation.
Have your ever had similar issues on your devices? Please share yours, that will eventually make me feel a little better
Also, if you have some tricks to get rid of this stupid pixel feel free to share as well.
Damn this is driving me crazy, I'd try to ignore it but I literally can't! I keep turning on the device just in order to look at it and cringe, I think I'm going insane.
Btw, I attached a super zoomed, super blurry macro of the pixel, it's shot with my Lumia at a very close distance, sorry about the horrible quality. It should give you the idea tho...
Well, I had a dead pixel back in the day when I had PSP. It was almost in the middle of the screen and I can tell you, it was driving me insane .... but give it a week or two and you will get used to it
Now on my TF300, I have some tiny piece of dust under the screen and it kinda looks like dead pixel. Havent figured out a way to get rid of it but I dont care much about it.
I know its not much help, but theres not much you can do about it.

Does it look bright on a dark screen, like eg the app drawer? Also, a dead pixel will always be black, even on a white screen, what I have is a stuck pixel, and by stuck I mean it's stuck on a single colour regardless what the screen is showing...a dead pixel can't be fixed in any way, while a stuck one may eventually be fixed using some tricks or simply fix itself with time. If the dot isn't bright nor black then it's probably a simple speck of dust underneath the screen.

I heard directly from Asus today. They told me that for tablets and phones a single defective pixel is enough to be eligible for warranty purpose. However they told me to contact the vendor first, because the item is still under their responsibility (I bought it a week ago). The vendor told me to send them an email with a copy of the warranty certificate/product code and report of the issue, possibly with a picture. If Asus validates the instance they'll send me a courier. However I guess I'll have to wait for a while before I hear from them, because next week everything is frozen due to holidays here in Italy. Oh well, no big deal. I'll just go on and use my "flawed" device while I wait
Edit: hmm, now that I think about it...my boot loader is unlocked right now. I know that this is supposed to void my warranty, but I've already heard of people succeeding in their claim when the fault of the product was obviously hardware. This should be the case as well...what should I do about it? The Asus guy checked my serial and didn't mention anything about my bootloader apparently, so I could be fine...

I would try and send it in anyway. The 'worst' case would be they send it back without repair/replacement, but I think there's a good chance that will not happen, because the error is hardware-related as you said.

hello,
I have a stuck pixel on my padfone 2 tabstation
I still can return it within 10 days, no questions asked.
According to your experience with asus do you think i should just return it to the shop without mentionning the pixel, or try to have a replacement with a warranty (that may not apply)
My wife got me a TF300T off Craigslist for Christmas with a similar problem, I have a group of bright pixels, it is with a white background. I'm going to try and contact the seller and see if I can get info on where he bought it and see what Asus will do.
I have noticed a lack of contrast on the screen, but I'm comparing it to a DROID CHARGE witch has way to much saturation on its screen.

[Q] Did your RMA have problems?

Ive gone thought 2 RMAs and ive phoned Google for the 3 one.

-3 device: A black line from top to bottom of the device. Can be seen on white screens.

I'll disagree only because people have suggested the same thing to me. I'm waiting for my 3rd device to ship. My first one has a bright spot you see in the middle whenever the phone is held from an angle, like a cluster of stuck pixels. The second had a bad yellow tint and black dust under the screen.
In the past 2 years I've bought 2 Lenovo laptops, an Asus Zenbook, a PSVita, an iPod Touch, a Samsung TV, Nexus One/S/Galaxy, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, a Xoom and a Galaxy Tab 10.1.
At NO point have I had to return or exchange a single one of these devices.
I otherwise love the device, but I have no doubt that corners were cut in the manufacturing process to attain the low price.
You are lucky your rma is shipping. This is my first rma with the n4 and they're not even shipping it to me. It's been almost 2 weeks too.
I ordered 4 originally (not for selling, for friends). Mine was the only one with problem (overheating, screen flicker, bad MicroUSB port). The RMA'd device was awesome in every way, but had no functioning Magnometer (so no orientation sensing or compass functionality). Still waiting for the second RMA to get here. Other than that, amazing phone.
My first device had the yellow spot syndrome so I RMA'ed it. Was disappointed to find the replacement had a yellow tint on the display. Was planning on RMAing that too until I found out it could be fixed with software. So I'm now happy with my 2nd n4.

Flashing the Jellytime kernel did it for me. There's also the Nexus 4 Display control that allows you to adjust it without changing kernels (I myself haven't used this but it looks promising).
I'm not sure if either would work if you have a stripe down the side, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks for the suggestions! Did you flash the jellytime kernel itself in the ROM thread, or did you flash the whole ROM along with the kernel? I don't know if there is a difference between the two besides the lack of OC. The kernel didn't fix the issues with me :c I might try the display control.

- 1 device: All the device made noise, cracking all the time.
- 2 device: Horrible screen bleeding and noise on the speaker
-3 device: A black line from top to bottom of the device. Can be seen on white screens.

RMA's are now back ordered as well. Mine just changed to pre-ordered, and the CSR says they are now completely out of devices. I'm gonna say, crap like this contributes, as well as people that fry their phone OCing. OP absolutely has the right to a high quality device. But given the obvious supply issues Google has been having, I don't think it would have hurt to just deal with it for a couple weeks, none of those are deadline issues, and you have a full year to RMA for a manufacturer defect. I have a 3/4 inch tall strip across the center of my screen with no touch response, damn near cripples the device's usability.
Oh well, I guess that just means I get a phone from the third batch, that much less likely to have defects I hope. Or maybe I'll get the OP's refurb'd 1st device, cause I'm not that damned picky.
Again, OP does have the right to a high quality device, but now this kinda crap is screwing over user's with deadline issues.
my RMA was very fast (australia) shipped within 24hours of calling to setup the RMA
My phones earpiece cut out randomly so often i couldn't hear people when they called. the new one is perfect tho.
My old phone rattled and buzzed real loud and the replacement fixed that but it has a yellow tinted screen with clear spots.

they dont have any new ones to use for RMAs so people are just getting "refurbed" returns that already had problems even if the problems are unrefurbable like screen issues
