I just installed it. Don't know if it's a placebo or not but things do indeed feel smoother.

Been using it for a little while, I agree it does seem to work for me, see the difference more on my older desire z phone but still seems all good for the TF101.
Didnt realise there had been any updates, i was running version 1.1
Cheers for posting

Has any1 else tried this ???

Anybody Notice Any Changes in EPE54B?

Has anybody noticed any change in the Google apps or radio if you installed it?
Supposedly there are no changes at all except for some \system stuff being moved around.
Then update is useless i suppose?
I swear that my phone is running a lot faster for some reason after flashing the radio, which makes no sense lol.
I thought so too. But if there's no changes then were probably just imagining it LOL.

Placebo effect. We flashed something new, so we think its faster, and its faster. =P

[Q] Jerky scrolling through app drawer

My desire z is real jerky (compared to my brother's desire) when scrolling through the app drawer. Especially when it gets to the easing at the end... I have seen a thread about specific desire Z's being a bit more laggy than others, but how is this possible...
OC to 1.2GHz didnt fix it.
Linpack scores = 44
Quadrant = 2100
I dont think these scores are too bad, and scrolling through the homescreens as well as opening and closing apps is really smooth. Its just the scrolling through the app list thats jerky and I think it is pretty annoying.
Which ROM are you running exactly ?

It is not ROM specific, I had this when the phone came right out of the box. Now im running villainROMZ 1.0 and its the same. I thought it had to do with the launcher (on my good ol' G1 it went a lot smoother when using LauncherPro) but its not on my desire z.
Have you installed tons and tons of extra apps ? I've added about 10, and my app drawer scrolls without any problem (on the original stock UK ROM). I've seen people talking about it lagging on some of the custom ROMs though.
no extra apps. first boot on stock ROM since i unpacked it and it was already laggy.

Was it just setting up initial stuff, syncing with Google etc though ? I think you need to allow it to settle down.

i did , i let it run for about a day and after settling down its still not as smooth as my little brother's desire. I can live with it though, its just weird it does that. Everything else runs as smooth, if not smoother.
The other thread is about a guy who's Desire Z is made in China and runs slow as well. Mine's made in China too.

yeah this was discussed before, but i find it hard to believe. Why would HTC make a ROM for the same phone, but laggier. Makes no sense at all.

Maybe it's a long shot, but it could just be through a mistake, they obviously wouldn't do it deliberately. Like any bugs in the shipping ROMs.
Hey friend,
My DZ is made in Taiwan and I too feel that it lags while scrolling through the apps menu, contacts etc..
I was just going to root my phone inorder to flash the VillainROM.. but now, after reading that it doesn't solve the problem, I will wait for a different solution I guess..

Gingerbread enables 32-bit colors on our EVO screens!

Title says it all. I can confirm that gingerbread renders everything in gorgeous 32-bit colors!!!!!!
For example, the weather channel app would look like crap, now it looks great.
Wallpapers look STUNNING.
Press and hold the home button to open the recent used apps menu, notice how the black blackground is blending in so nicely. on 2.2 it looks like crap.
Edit: Screenshots up. XDA Adds a lot of compression to both photos but you can still tell the difference.
Cant wait to see this
anyone else able to confirm this? and what program did you use to determine its rendering in 32bit? just wondering
This is correct....

ha I remember you talking about this on IRC.. Good find!
That's freaking amazing! I can't wait! Are you running gingerbread on your EVO?

I don't understand why this required Gingerbread to resolve it? but i'm looking forward to no more color banding in wallpapers either way
as a graphics guy, this is probably the best bit of news to come out of the whole gingerbread smorgasbord of news...
utterly awesome!
Yes, I was running gingerbread alpha 3. It's still pretty buggy and with a lot of things missing so I just went back to stock 3.70.

My eyes
I also just wanted to clarify that our EVOs always had this capability, but only Android 2.3 renders everything in 32-bit color. It's all software.

Show me something that actually says it's really in 32-bit color and I'll believe it. Or you can post the pictures you had posted earlier somewhere else so it doesn't compress them.

Myn get back from your cruise already and integrate gingerbread builds into warm 2.2!

intelligence is overrated.

I went ahead and flashed the alpha 2.3 and honestly saw NO DIFFERENCE in color reproduction.
I know all the places online say the gingerbread renders in 32 bit but I believe its only certain apps and screens that are actually in 32 bit. I could be wrong though
sent from my DAMN EVO
I'll rephrase my response, since it wasn't what I meant. The evo 4g isn't capable of displaying 32-bit color.
And my response wasn't meant to be disrespectful. I'm simply asking for a source isn't of just saying that he used "his eyes".
Hmm, can't see the difference, must be my display.

Use it a little bit more and you will certainly notice the difference. For example, check out wallpapers and how there is NO color banding effect.
I wouldn't have posted if I had not noticed such difference. Again, it's a subtle effect most apparent in apps like the Weather channel. If you're in doubt, run it on gingerbread then do the same on Froyo, then come tell me you can't see a difference.

[Q] EC09 vs EC07

Question for anybody who cares to comment.
I'm on EC07 still. I've been puttering along just fine with EC07...between TB and Pattielipp's mods, life is great and Miunia is greater.
So...are there any major feature differences between EC07 and EC09? I've heard stability cited as one of the reasons for moving up, but I get a force close maybe once every 2-3 days and it's really not that much of a nuisance all things considered. So other than that, has anybody noticed much of a difference between the two?

I think my phone is more responsive on EC09. I have heard other people say the same thing, too.

Yes I've heard that too. Are there any feature additions? Or it just seems to be speed/stability?

No new features that I know of, other than things like the stock launcher and browser, but who uses those?

performance under 4.2.1

It is early days, but has anyone noticed a change in overall performance after the 4.2.1 update?
This could be a placebo effect, but I'm certain that things are a little smoother, less lag, and there are certainly less freezes / forced restarts so far. I was getting at least 3 of these per day, and have had none since yesterday. It also seems to have cooled the screen colour temperature slightly more bluey and less yellowy.
If you would've googled the 4.2.1 change log you would know that there isn't anything that would improve what you think you are noticing. All that changed is December was added back into calander and some vibration fixes. There is nothing that would improve performance or anything you've mentioned.

Oh no! If only I had done that, I wouldn't feel half as stupid as I do now.
Actually, I did and found this caveat (or similar) attached to them all.
This only includes the Android Open Source Project changes and does not include any changes in any proprietary components included by Google

Woa... you are on to something. I got a 4873 on the Quadrant benches with my N4. Geekbench shows no improvement what so ever, remaining at an incredibly static 2042.
I'll test on my N10 when the battery goes up, it may be the case that my low bat is affecting scores.

Oh yes! I work with the source. I answered your question. Its probably the smallest and most minor update from Google ever.
Call me crazy, naive, silly noob, but I'm definitely getting zippier, more buttery performance on stock takju 4.2.1 since I OTA'd this morning.
And honestly...if I'm enjoying it more, what else matters, right?
Well bring on the placebo effect, I reckon it's a little faster too. And my led notifications suddenly work now too, I had pretty much given up on them and concluded the hardware might be broken but was amazed when it started blinking after the 4.2.1 update!

Yep. Never said anythings wrong with the old placebo effect. In most cases it's better to have that than nothing. I was just stated the fact that I saw what exactly was changed and giving the proper information for it.
I got ~9000 on 4.2 on Antutu, and 13000+ on 4.2.1. Probably has more to do with the update to 3.0 though. The big increases were in 2D and 3D performance.
