You don't you have to upload the music to Google servers. Took about a week of 24/7 uploading to get my entire collection (80 GB) onto Google's server.

you just download an app on your desktop and it will upload your music in the background. No need to do anything.
Box is more for files rather than streaming as far as I know.

Install ES File explorer.
Go to the Net tab
Add new Box
Login to the Box account with ES File explorer
Then click to the Folder or MP3 file to stream music.
Hope it will help you.

what about CloudAround?

so i just got my invite to the beta. has anyone else got one yet? the only android i got is the epic. i heard that only zoom owners were getting it. now it looks like they are letting others use the service.
I signed up but haven't heard anything, if they are inviting other epic users hopefully I will get one soon!

I haven't got mine yet either
I am still waiting as well. I was hoping I could get in on it since I am on a tablet running Honeycomb, but no luck yet.

I also got my invite today. Ran through the "get started" on my computer but haven't messed with it on my epic yet.
Argh, waiting very anxiously for an invite! I need a way to stream my music library, but I don't really like how you have to upload every new song manually for Amazon MP3 Cloud Service.. Plus I've been having issues where Amazon uploads the same song multiple times for some reason. Hopefully Google will ease my pains! lol

You can use audiogalaxy to stream your music library. You do not need to upload anything. You install a audiogalaxy program on your PC, point the program to your music library, open up the audiogalaxy app on your Epic 4g and you can stream immediately over 3G, 4G, Wifi, or your desktop. Plus it scrobbles to Last FM. No uploading at all. The app is 100% free. I use it all the time.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.audiogalaxy&feature=search_result
Also there is no limit on how much you can stream. you have 40,000 songs, you can stream all 40,000
The only downside to this is that in order to stream, you must leave your computer with audiogalaxy background app on. Your computer is the cloud essentially. unlike Amazon and google's services where you are uploading it to their cloud locker.
To bad the Music streaming doesn't work on the Epic
At least not on EE03
Google Music app just got an update to 3.0.1.
get it on the Market.

I got invites on my 2 accounts today
tried using it... stopped getting sound on the first play and it gives me a google maps FC error. very beta
I personally use Amazon Cloud Player. It's been working well for me.
Looks like it's working on the stock epic.
I have all music that was on my home laptop listed and playing on my phone.
I haven't used all features yet but basic ones are OK.

App to stream videos from networked hard drive?

On my iPad I used an app called Air Video <http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/air-video-watch-your-videos/id306550020?mt=8> to stream videos from a hard drive on my wireless network. I would like to do the same on my Nexus 7. Does anyone know a good app to do that? I searched the Play store but wasn't able to find any.
You can try fs explorer if its a share drive.
BSPlayer

I think he mean't FX explorer.
I'm not sure how to exactly do this, I have a HDD plugged into my router, how do I go about finding it now? Any help would be great thanks!

I tried ES File Explorer and that seems to work for Windows SMB network shares.
Just open the app, click the top left and Local to LAN. Then click the Search icon and it will find your computer on the network. Then just pick the file and open it with your preferred video player. The quality for my SD videos seems very blocky. I don't know if that's normal or not since I'm too lazy to put a file onto the internal memory to test, but it works. 1080p videos don't really play though and I haven't tried 720p. I might try some other apps later on.
ES File Explorer + MX Video Player. Works great. Rumor has it that an update to Solid Explorer is coming out soon that supports SMB share streaming.
I have tried a bunch of apps to stream from my Usb Hard Drive which is connected to my Netgear Router, but I have had no joy!
Anyone else using one of these routers and having any joy?

Yes I am using a netgear router also n600 to be exact. I have had no luck so far, I think I am missing some settings that I need to change still.

Plex worked for me.
http://www.plexapp.com/
Both of these stream from my WD Live TV Hub, not sure if they will work from a networked hard drive, probably will as long as there is some kind of DLNA/UPNP server on the NAS. I use these in conjunction with Dice player, which seems to play any codec up to 720p.
UPNPlay
Media House
I'm using VPlayer on the Nexus and I've installed TVMOBiLi on my mac.
I seriously don't get how to do this whole streaming thing, I don't have a server at home but I did plug in my portable hdd to my router and im not sure how to get it streaming to my N7. Any help would be great!

XBMC works like a champ with PS3 Media Server installed on the computer. Able to stream 720p mkvs with subtitles to the N7 without any issues or stuttering
So I tried out BSPlayer and found it very easy to connect to my Windows 7 smb network shares. I liked it so much I used some of my credit to buy it.
It does get crashy, especially if you have a lot of LAN videos in your Recently Played, etc Playlists, but I don't use those anyway. The video seems much better quality than using ES File Explorer and MXPlayer/VPlayer. Load times and seek times are super quick with just BSPlayer too. The gestures for the interface aren't really useful to me, but they said they will probably have an option to disable it in a future update.
Anyone willing to connect with me via teamviewer to set it up to make it possible for me to stream my videos from my portable hdd that is on my router?

Where are downloaded movies stored?

I have rooted my N7 and I am looking to manage space by moving files to USB storage. I used Astro File manager to look for them and I can't find them under MOVIES or DOWNLOADs. Where are they?
If you mean movies from the play store they are in android/data/com.Google.android.videos
Other than that it would help if you said where the videos were from.

I've looked there and all I find is folders, files>Movies, and a folder named with random numbers and letters with nothing in it, and a also a blank folder named subtitles (Not it the movies folder). When I logged into my Google account, it gave me a free movie to download (Ice Age 1), and I can't find it there. I think I've looked everywhere.
EDIT: Just found it. The file was somehow hidden from my computer, but not one of my file-browsing apps. Thanks it works now.

The free transformers movie

cant. sigh..
what i did and i've downloaded a few times is remove the google account on your device, go into location settings and click them all off.. clear the play store and play movies app settings.. then connect to your vpn... then launch your play store, sign in using your existing google account, then open play movies... movie should be there.. pin it for download..

i have a separate question re the movie, i have downloaded it and can watch it in play movies but is there anyway to 'extract' the movie from play movies and watch in mx player or copy onto my pc for watching again? it take up about 2gb of space on the device... i'm guessing its wrapped in drm..
also re other movies in the store.. there only seems to be an option to rent or purchase... can you download other purchases for offline viewing?

If you want to keep a backup, can go to Android/data/com.google.android.videos
and copy the file inside the folder with the very long name.
I don't think our can view it off from outside the tablet itself, but you can give it a try though.

Anyone having more luck here? Since once has DRM-rights to the file, maybe there is a work-around so one can watch the movie elsewhere (as opposed to android os and play-store)?

Just picked up a Nexus 7, what's the best way to stream music from PC?

I was debating nexus 7 or Galaxy tab 2. Pretty sure I've made the right choice. With no SD card I can't store my all of my music. What are some good options. I've used power amp the most on my S2 not much else when it comes to media players.
Thanks

You have to upload all your desktop music to Google's Music cloud first, then you stream it from the cloud. Doesn't sound like exactly what you want.
To stream directly from the PC, Audiogalaxy is what I used before and seemed to work well. I believe WinAmp does this as well.
