Hi guys, anyone else experiencing really slow downloads through the market? I'm talking 10-20kbs which is really annoying when I'm setting up a new rom. The issue seems to be rom independent and what I don't understand is why the market is so slow when my actual data connection is fine. I've ran speedtest and I'm getting 10Mbs connection speeds (over wifi) so it seems strange for the market to have such issues.
Yup, been having that on every rom as well. A temp fix I know is to unmount SD card before starting the download, that should give you good speed again. Not too practical for every update, but a huge timesaver after a fresh install!
This is a ROM issue not the markets slow server ?
It's definitely a problem on our side yes, the market servers are doing just fine.

I agree with this...i also realized that if unmounting SD solve my problem, maybe the sd is the problem...so I treat it out with another sd card...turn out my sd card was going bad...so if unmount SD helps, try another card...good luck
NexusHD2-FRG83D V1.7
use this build.

i am having downloads speed at 1.5M-2M from market.
i tried many other builds, but this one is a rocket with market downloads.
Enjoy
I am using the same building as mentioned by boldman78 and what he said is 100% true.

Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I'll give it a go and see if it's the case, if it is we need to identify what's causing the problem in other builds.
I have the same issue on my hd2 android.
my download speed is about 5-40 kbps...
so what is the difference in this build? maybe the cooker can share it to make all builds perfect

You do realize, don't you, that when you use the "unmount SD card" option in Android, it doesn't actually unmount the SD card?
I've tried that build but I'm seeing no change in market download speeds, I have noticed that wifi speeds are much slower than over 3G though, I'll try this on my current build (MDJ FroYo HD v.4.0) to see if it's a wifi only issue.

Of course I do...but if it helps, it helps...lol
@tung...did you try the unmounting SD method to see if it'll help...
Well, this problem that you guys are experiencing is all because of the SD card. I have tested two cards using the same build, one is the original SanDisk 16gb class 2 and one is the new Samsung 16gb class 2. The Sandisk download app super fast and the Samsung one only get 10-20kb/s. Even the same class, the two card have different write speed. So it is all because of the SD card. Seems like SanDisk would work best.
To explain the "unmount thing", because android systems sync with the SD card all the time and that take up a lot of write speed. If your card does not have a good write speed it would take longer. By "un-mounting" the SD card, you tell it to stop syncing and the speed is much improve. That's all. Warning: if you turn of the phone when unmount, you will experience data loss or corruption.
great way to put things in perspective...that's why I advice OP to try a new SD before blaming it on the BUILD...

i use the same card for all builds that i test and still nexusv1.7 is fastest on market downloads.
I think I can verify the SD card theory. My girlfriend and I both have hd2's running android (same build, rom, radio, hspl). The only thing different about our phones is that I'm running the original sandisk 16gb class 2 and she is running a 4gb PNY class 4 SD card.
Her market downloads, strangely enough, are incredibly slower than mine on the class 2. I had always wondered about that since she had a class 4...but I guess it does make sense. Although the payoff for her is her android boot time is incredibly fast.

With SD unmounted my market also is a little bit faster but still too slow.
(MDJ FROYO HD 4.0 and WLAN).
Any other solution?!
Yeah really very slow
Hi. I've benchmarked my class 2 SD card with several different benchmark programs (both android and pc) and they all return the same result: read - 1.5 mb/s and write - 5 mb/s. Is this normal?
You might be experiencing what is called write caching.
This would lead to display of higher speeds with small amounts of data.
Try copying a large file - 2GB or more, for instance - and you will see that it will stabilize around your actual write speed at some point. It might still be 5MB/s as the Class 2 of your SD card guarantees minimum speeds, not maximum
Has anyone else been experiencing this? It takes an hour for my to transfer 1 GB of data. The same folder took only a few minutes to transfer between my Droid and X2.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, or maybe it's a hardware problem?
16GB TF/Prime 1.4
Same problem here (Prime 1.4).
Does someone know how to have a faster usb connection (1h for 2Gb)
Thxxx
Stdu
I just did a quick transfer speed test by copying a 286MB file
Copying to the internal storage took 25 seconds (transfer rate : 11.4MBps)
Copying to a class 2 , 8GB microSD card took 45 seconds (transfer rate : 6.35MBps)
At those speeds a 1Gig should not take much longer than 1min 30sec to the internal memory and 2min 41sec to a Class 2 micro SD card (which is like the slowest speed you can expect from a micro SD card these days), unless you are moving thousands of tiny files, in which case it will take longer, but even then I doubt it should take 1hr.
P.S: 16GB TF running stock 3.1, connected to a Windows 7 32bit laptop
was your dock battery low when you tried to do this? could explain why it took a while.
Or don't use the dock at all? I never tried transferring anything while docked, didn't seem like it would've worked, but I guess it does work.
I still don't have my dock :-(
I tried to remove AVG and made a reset but still same problem.
I will try tomorrow to install the Prime 1.5 maybe this will help
Thx
Or you can transfer via wifi. Lightning fast =)

Perhaps, if the folder had video files, you selected the option to transcode the video.

I only get 750KBps when copying files over wi-fi using ES File explorer; and I don't think you can expect anything above 1.0~2MBps when transferring from one wireless device to another wireless device on a wireless G network. That is still more than 10x slower than USB. What method are you using ??
Are you copying only one single big file or many smaller files..the speed normally drops significantly when copying huge amount of smaller files..
either way, one hour for 1Gb seems absurdly long....have you tried the stock rom?
I just tested our TF101 with "sd card tester" and the write speeds are really slow - 2.24 MB/s for a 472MB test file while the read is pretty decent - 12.09 MB/s. Compared with my new Kingmax MicroSD Class 6 doing :
read speed - 9.89 MB/s average
write speed - 10.81 MB/s average
How's it possible that the write speed is so incredibly slow? Could anyone test it out with the "sd card tester" app from the Android Market and let me know?
i got 9.59 write speed and 11.54 read speed
damn...
the internal memory is so slow at writing..
i use a cache of 3072 with 300mb test file lenght
internal sd card:
write 2.68 mb/s
read 19.97 mb/s
class 6 external card
write 10.44 mb/s
read 18.66 mb/s
Internal
Write 8.18
Read 16.07
External 8Gb MicroSDHC class4
Write 43.77
Read 43.29
FullSD Panasonic HighSpeed
Write 31.7
Read043.78
FWIW my write to internal SD was ~5 mb/s initially. I freed up about 6 gigs space by deleting some video content and it improved to close to 9 mb/s.
Those with > 5mb write speed, are you guys on custom or stock rom?
also guys please try it on a larger test file like > 2gb if you have the space or as much as you can, the results would be more accurate. using a small test file i could get around 9mb too
I noticed little issue with my brand new Moto X Play (upgraded to Android 6.0). I bought sd card Kingston microSDXC 64 GB UHS-I U3 90 MB/s read and 80 MB/s write, put to device and formatted as internal memory. After successful formatting phone displays popup: "Card is too slow". I did benchmark (A1 SD Bench). Results: Read about 20 MB/s and Write about 15 MB/s. The strange thing is that I do not feel any lag when I launching app installed on sd card (it launches nearly in the same time as from phone internal storage). Has anyone had a similar problem?

I experienced the same thing with my phone. After formatting my new strontium 64 gb uhs 1 card for internal show, it displayed the 'card too slow" message. After running the benchmark test, I got around 25mbps read and 14 mbps write speed.
Planning to return the card. How has your experience been so far using this card?
