From the Moderators --- We are working on creating a section dedicated for the NOTE LTE Version please be patient we hear you........
The "Samsung Galaxy Note",
that some call "Galaxy Note International",
is the "Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000".
Samsung SGH-i717 Galaxy Note LTE (At&t) is *NOT* a version of the Galaxy Note N7000.
The Galaxy Note LTE i717 is the US version of the "Galaxy Note LTE SHV-E160(S)"
The Galaxy Note LTE i717 is a *different product* with:
- different hardware,
- different speed,
- different CPU,
- different GPU,
- different kernel,
- different benchmark results,
- different weight (182 gramms)
- with LTE 700
To make this even more clear:
Samsung firmware for the N7000 will NOT work on the i717
Cyanogenmod for N7000 will NOT work on i717
EVERYTHING that is made to work specifically on the N7000 will NOT work on the i717
It is like the Galaxy SII i9100 (Exynos) and the Galaxy SII Skyrocket i727 (Snapdragon S3). Also they are not the same device.
The Galaxy Note LTE i717 and the Galaxy SII Skyrocket i727 are in the same family (both with a Snapdragon S3).

I'm pretty sure he is trying to quell the coming onslaught of questions regarding the ATT GNote, soon to be released in the United States from occuring in this section or in the International GNote section.
I can almost guarantee that some non readers will go ahead and ask a dozen questions as to compatibility of roms/kernels/mods/themes/everything.
Having this thread (Which SHOULD get a sticky) allows us as fellow members to flame/troll/ignore/laugh at anyone who ask questions or screws up their phone by flashing something on an incorrect device
Thanks for the heads up. As soon as At&t release the phone i'll be jumping all over this thread.

Now I'm really wondering what version I should get. I'm worried about the warranty, or lack of, for the international version, but I'm also worried about the major differences between the International version and the AT&T version, as well as what LTE will do to battery life...

Although, looking at how much International prices have skyrocketed, I'm not so sure about that version....

A sticky isn't license to be a jerk.
Even with the warnings, I bet it isn't 24 hours after the at&t version is
released, that there will be threads about "I just installed xxx rom from THIS
forum on my new at&t note and all it does is stick at the boot screen".
Betcha 5 bucks

Good news is, Odin won't let you install Exynos or Tegra ROMs on a Snapdragon device.
We shouldn't have to worry about that sort of thing until a working insecure recovery (CWM) is made for the 717.
wish 4 cores!!

There are nicer ways to draw attention to the thread (and request a sticky) than suggesting anyone flame/troll/ignore/laugh at others. I am bringing this thread to the attention of my co-mod. Since I will be getting the AT&T version, I will end up taking care of these new user issues - do not make my job harder
it was a joke about trolling people who dont follow directions and mess up their phone
I am in the camp of buying the i7171 or N7000. I have to wait until march 2013 to buy the i717 at subsidy price or fork over the full amount when it comes out. For that amount, i might as well buy the N7000. The att version of the touch pro was the last phone that i forked over the full amount and that was money better spent on a stripper. In my opionion, att version was a big bust. I was also in the top 5% for two straight months and got throttled. In my area, "3G" is slow as heck and i was surprised to learn it can get alot slower than that. To buy the att i717 or to hell with att and get the N7000? That is the question on my mind.
My opinion is that every post regarding Galaxy Note LTE i717 is OFF-TOPIC on this forum.
It helps nobody to encourage confusion between two different hardware devices.

In the same boat and I have a couple upgrades to burn......But The International versions are developer supported to a much greater extent and we won;t have LTE here until 2013 and I like being on the dumbphone plans with two phones and saving $240 a year and getting UL data on both our phones meaning not having to count it (becasue we don;t use more than 1GB a month anyway....
. We have a couple International warranty less (used) i9100s and I always bought Nokias unlocked new before they faded and never had a warranty issue. Its a risk worth taking. I take two risks...I buy used and no warranty. So far so good.
I may use my upgrades to buy and sell a couple iPhone 5s when they come out. The 3GS did very well as a resale.
The SGS II still smokes both devices......on paper.

Then don't encourage it. Its as simple as redirecting people to this thread if they have any questions. And last I checked, it said GALAXY NOTE GENERAL. Not Europe Note, not AT&T Note, etc.

To express an opinion on what I consider off-topic is not moderation.
My opinion:
Want the Note N7000? Buy the Note N7000.
Buy the I717? You get the Note LTE, with the Note LTE hardware, Note LTE software, Note LTE I717 buttons and a Note LTE XDA forum.
The I717 Note LTE may continue to be confused with the N7000 Note here (to not make I717 owners feel lonely and segregated).
So when someone writes here, we will always have to ask:
Are you writing about the N7000 or I717?
Is this opinion about the N7000 or I717?
Is this bug about the N7000 or I717?
And that benchmark, is for N7000 or I717?
Nice protective cover, is it for N7000 or I717?
This does not work on mine. Is it for N7000 or I717?
I have a skyrocket and both variants are the same for ATT and Rogers...will this be the same for the GS3?
Yes the model is slated to be i747 on both rogers and at&t. In fact Bell and Telus will have the same model too. Now there may be small differences such as the boot up screen showing Rogers ( I remember this from my Captivate ) but the models to the best of my knowledge are going to be the same and the roms/firmwares interchangeable

Yeah the att and rogers versions of the Samsung Infuse 4G were the same and they pretty much shared the same forum....

We might also be getting the new gui as well. What I am worried about is that our multi-windows on the note 10.1 will be changed to the new multi-windows on the TabPro and Note Pro's as well as yet another method on the note 10.1-2014....I personally think that multi-windows on ours is far superior to the new tabs.
In fact, I have a tabpro 10.1 here that may be going back to best buy

What's your problem with the new way it's implemented?
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk
NIce, even though mine is running 4.2.2 right now (ported), With the official release it should get more stable.
One thing right off is if you change an windowed app to full screen, there is no way to return it to windowed mode. Was hoping it would get rooted quickly so I could try some of the multi-window apps to see if it can be improved. I also like the way we can simply switch between Dual View and Cascade view. These are personal preferences only, of course.
Cannot wait.
Add Engadget to the list reporting it.
http://www.engadget.com/2014/02/18/samsung-kitkat-us/
There was a report on ZDNet as well, but it didn't differentiate between the Galaxy Note 10.1 and the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014), so it wasn't definitive...
The official press release reads:
DALLAS, February 18, 2014 – Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) announced today that a number of Samsung Galaxy® devices will receive the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) software update, enriching the Galaxy experience.
The upgrade provides a number of innovative, easy-to-use features that enhance the user experience, including a more intuitive user interface, enhanced messaging capabilities and updated applications:
Location Menu: An integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities.
Enhanced Messaging: Enables users to choose between Messages or Hangouts as their preferred default messaging application, and select from a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.
Upgraded Google Mobile Service™ (GMS) apps: Users can automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.
Samsung Galaxy U.S. devices currently scheduled to receive the KitKat update include select carrier variants of the Galaxy Note® 3, Galaxy Note® II, Galaxy S® 4, Galaxy S® 4 mini™, Galaxy S® 4 Active™, Galaxy S® 4 zoom™, Galaxy S® III, Galaxy S® III mini™, Galaxy Mega®, Galaxy Light, Galaxy Note® 8.0, Galaxy Tab® 3, Galaxy Note® 10.1, Galaxy Note® 10.1 2014 Edition.
Availability varies by carrier and product, with updates beginning today and continuing throughout the coming months.
The only gotcha here is that it sounds more like they're only talking about 3G/LTE models (the reference to carriers and to messages).. but it could be that they're just rolling it all into one big announcement. Was there ever a 3G or LTE version of the Note 10.1 2012 model sold in the US?
Unlikely
Will they jump from 4.1.2 to 4.4.2?
I doubt...
Probably will. It costs them more money to goto 4.3 then to 4.4.2. The 10.1 OG is reaching the end of its update cycle and they would want it to have Galaxy Gear 1/2 support. It will be interesting to see if there will be a UI change or more of a behind the scenes update with bug fixes.
This is super exciting news.
i hope it will happen soon. any idea what timeline we are looking at?
1-2 month ?

Why not ??? There is no reason to release anything else at this point.
4.4 if there is no carrier
Since they leave it to the carriers, I wonder what that says about the wifi only units (8013)
which depend on SAMSUNG as there is no carrier.
great news
That is super news imho. All our collective ranting and demanding finally paid off I guess. But I still believe Samsung needs to do more to get back on it's customers good side. They have a lot more to learn in terms of customer support and image management.
The fact that they totally forgot about us and suddenly remembered is quite flabbergasting.
It's still a good news ^^

The PR quote is directly from Samsung and has been widely reported. It's possible it's a hoax, but if it is, you'd expect Samsung to refute it quickly given that it's appeared on major sites like Engadget and ZDNet.

So Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile devices got the update before international devices? Not that I really care abou the update, but this is...it's odd.
Samsung roll out update according to sales precepts, USA iPhone release make Samsung to release update before international phone, in my country U.A.E they release update if no new device being launched, after few updates for new device they forget about updates, if delay in update due to carriers approval how Samsung can relies update for newer devices along with other countries? Samsung don't care customers Simple.

Not really. US providers have a tendency to pay money for these sorts of things.
Don't get the point from a marketing perspective because US citizens cant get unbranded devices without a hassle anyway, and it won't make the EU users buy US devices either.
Sony has a habit of doing this, too, but on a larger scale. They tend to pay Google so they can put the competition on hold for 3 months. Bit awful that Google goes along with it, it's not as if they need the money...
Look on the bright side. The US users get to be guinea-pigs and pick out all the fatal flaws for us. Saves us the trouble.

Quite a few outlets are reporting that the Note 4 (regular) Lolipop update has begun rolling out on Sprint.
This probably doesn't mean too much for the Edge, but hopefully the minor differences between the Edge and the Note will enable a quick turnaround on the Edge variant of the update.
Only time will tell, unfortunately. No confirmation has come for the Edge, as far as I can tell.
I think lollipop for Note 4 has been around longer
