This past Christmas, I hacked my son's NC and installed CM7.2 and bought him that charging base/speaker combo. This has worked out really well for him so far.
Until this past weekend, anyway. For some reason, his NC isn't taking a charge. When I plug it into any charger, be it the speaker base or his wall charger or the one I have for my NT, the battery indicator shows itself to be charging but the n remains green. No matter how long I leave it on, or what charging device I use, his battery indicator always returns to yellow when it comes off.
Is there anything on CM7.2 that might be causing this? Should I wipe and rehack?

First, try a new B&N cable.
That's the thing, I've tried the NC with all four of the B&N NC/NT cables we have in the house. No dice.

Do you have Nook Tweaks set to USB Host or USB/VBus "on"?
I honestly have no clue. Where would I check?

Look in the app drawer for Nook Tweaks. If it is not there look in settings.
This sounds like the same thing that occasionally happened to me! Try rebooting while plugged in.

I tried rebooting in every manner possible. I've cleared the dalvik. And I've looked for Nook Tweaks and that USB thing and I can't find anything that even looks like that. No dice on any of that :/

You have to download nook tweaks from the Play Store.

Okay, so I need to download Nook Tweaks and turn off this USB thing?
Here's another quirk I noticed. My son's NC has been off the charger for about two hours now with him playing it, but the battery indicator still animates like it's charging.
Sent from my Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet using Tapatalk 2
I get that same issue...I just plug the cable in then pull it out again until that shuts off.....otherwise it will drain the battery like crazy.....I swear whatever battery B&N used in the nook colors is crap...especially with it being internal...

So would y'all suggest reinstalling the ROM? Or should I DL Nook Tweaks and turn off that USB thing?

My friend was having really bad problems with charging her nook with CM7. She tried new cables, etc with not much luck. I even considered having her get a new battery. Finally I advised her to go to CWM recovery and wipe battery stats. It came back to life. Been working great since.

You also mentioned (I think) that you were using a non-Nook cable. That cable will charge, but very slowly. You need to use the Nook Color cable for it to charge quickly.
Cant get past the charging screen
I would like to try and clear battery stats but I cannot get past the charging screen. I am using the NC power brick and cord. Any ideas?
Opened up unplugged battery plugged back in. Works fine

Your battery is drained. This is a hard situation because the device wont allow it to charge. Maybe try a factory cable or take the battery out and bring it to a shop that will charge it (batteries plus).im not sure really what to do.this happened to me once and i ended up frying my kindle electrically.

Indeed. The battery will charge using the Kindle supplied charger/cable when it is in the powered off state. Plug it in, when it powers on/goes into the boot look like you describe hold down the power button until it powers off. Leave it sit like that over night. You should have a fully charged battery and you can go on to the next step knowing that it isn't a battery issue.
i cant connect to the kindle fire utility or threw adb and i have CWM as my recovery is there a way to get into it with using the utility?
I had a similar problem as the OP. When my Kindle Fire with TWRP has a really dead battery it can only be recovered with the original Kindle Fire charging cable.
When the Kindle Fire's battery is very dead, the custom bootloader, this case, TeamWin's TWRP v 2.0.0 does not allow the Kindle to power down and allow the charger to do its work. I left it charging like this for three hours with no success. The device turns on for a few seconds and shuts off repeatedly. This is a fault of the bootloader--the Kindle Fire original software doesn't do this. My other Kindle Fire has the original Amazon software.
The only way I was able to recover from this problem was to plug in the charging cable that came with the Kindle Fire. It still flashed on and off a few times but eventually recovered enough battery strength to boot.
By the way I also have the AmazonBasics 2.1 amp USB charger and other chargers but none of them work. I don't consider this the fault of the hardware but a fault in the TWRP bootloader which is not allowing the device time to charge itself--it should shut down but not reboot like it apparently does now.
Hi,
I am using gederom and the led light is red but it's not charging, can anybody tell me how to fix this?
The new roms make games really lag so I can't get a newer rom.
Thanks for any help

Is it really not charging? Can you power down and try it?
Have you tried using the stock charger?
yes
Battery may be on its last legs....

Some of the older roms had a bug where it would charge without showing the charging status icon. Also check battery health using one of the apps on the store.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
Gederom is ancient, before the battery issues were fixed (not to mention it's ICS iirc).
Update to something more modern. CM 10.1.2 for the otter should suffice.
It's pretty sad when something from a year ago is considered ancient.
For the record I downgraded to gederom because it was the best ics rom at least until jb matured a bit more.

I bought a Nook HD for my mother for Christmas. She was telling me that it stopped holding a charge so I went over there today and found that it was about to explode or at least looked like it.
Has it happened to anyone else?

Yes this happened to me. I have removed the battery but now it is so difficult to source a replacement. Have been in limbo for over a month.

Are you sure that it is discharged. Did you try putting a bootable SD into the slot to try turning on? If the boot partition is messed up on internal it not attempt to turn on.
