[Q] HDMI with Screen off? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
big reader, not much of a talker, but, ive been wondering the above.
Ive searched but haven't found anything - is there a way to have the N10 screen off whilst plugged into HDMI? Example, watching a movie, etc, its not ideal to have both displays on.
Or at the very least, is there a way to have any sort of HDMI settings?
Just wondering,
Thanks guys

This is probably what you are looking for. I haven't tested it with the N10 or read enough of the thread to find out if it works. Good luck.

Blurry wallpaper

I know that someone posted a tread about this issue on XDA or some place else on the net, but for the life of me I can't find the thread now. I am trying to figure out why my wallpaper on my lock screen is clear, but when I use the same wallpaper for the Today screen the image looks grainy. Does anyone have a link to the thread that discussed this problem, or an answer as to why this occurs? I know this has been discussed before, so I apologize for bringing it up again. I am probably just putting in the wrong words in my search.

reaganh22, It was designed to overcome the exact issue that you're dealing with...the way sense doesn't display wallpapers you choose in full high-res glory. It takes a little learning, but it's awesome once you get the hang of it. Let us know if you need a hand getting it to work for you
Thanks so much guys! That was one of the threads I came across, but thought I had seen another one. It looks like this should do the trick though.

Yes, a 1000 times Yes.
Its considerably smaller than I thought it would be. A bit heavier as well.
As many have mentioned before, I wish that the auto-brightness setting were brighter.
Waiting patiently for the dev community to get crackin.
so far so good. No flash sucks but u know this.
Will have to go home to test mini USB charge/connect.
I dislike not being able to download .doc files from blackboard and key input lags.

Why can't you download the .doc file? Have you installed Astro File Manager and enabled browser downloads in the settings?
+1 but i purchased this morning from vzw and it has been sitting in my car all day.
from the few minutes i played with it at the store and in the car, i like it even more than i originally did.
it was also smaller than i was expecting which is a bonus.
Yes.
Called Verizon and got them to waive my activation fee, too.
I wish the screen itself had more contrast/brightness overall (I have Auto off and brightness on full, and its still only so-so).

As ridiculous as it is, no charging through the USB. With the emergence of USB 3 devices, it would have been nice to have USB charging.

yeah i really expected it to have the micro usb as at least a back up charging port so i dont have to carry another charger with me..
So far so good
Got mine this morning, copied over an mp4 movie and it plays very well. Don't like the default book reader because I don't know if its possible or not but I couldn't open my own epub files from it which would have been great because the app itself is actually nice. I'm still at work so I couldn't play with it as much as I would have liked to and the time I did have to spend on it I started installing some of my favorite apps (all free) like task manager, androzip, pandora, sketchbook...battery life has been great so far but again no real tests yet. I will def play with it more once I get home tonight and let everyone know if there are any issues. Sorry, forgot to mention how annoying the power button is as well as the extra charger that I have to carry around now.

[Q] How to create HDMI ONLY rom for broken vega?

As i have smashed my vega's glass does anyone have any ideas or advive on how to create a rom with HDMI as the default/main/only display? as id like to use it as a smart tv/media box! I am a novice with rom making but understand the therory and im willing to learn!
Currently trying to find where and how androids hardware dispay settings are/work!
could it be as easy as unplugging the lcd and restart with hdmi pluged in?
Hi,
you don't have to create your own ROM for that.
The easiest way to achieve what you want is to buy the official dock station (£30 I guess), plug the HDMI on your TV and stick a wireless USB Mouse-Keyboard combo on the back of the dock (I have used before with my Dell branded, but I'm sure should work with anything). Done!
Vegacomb still does not fully performs with the HDMI so I suggest you to use Corvus5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043506 which is the snappiest and most bug-free ROM around I've seen around.
Sit back on the couch, use the mouse as if it was your finger on the screen and the keyboard is just a nice touch for when typing e-mails or searching on you tube.
---
if you don't fancy buying the dock station, there're some ways to make the Vega USB port be a host USB, so u can stick the mouse direct on it, but then you can read to find it out how.
thaks for the reply! i was thinking of going back to corvus5 or maybe cm7 because as you say they have usb host also the dock for the vega is hard to find. The thing id like to do is have the resolution increased to 1280x800 like the xoom or 1280x720+? instead of 1024x600 in a 720 or 1080 box?
what im aming to do is turn my broken vega into a smart android tv box like...

I saw those links and find them very tempting.
But the fact is that those are very special versions of android with some extra dedicated hardware for video decoding. Tegra2 is for sure a massive powerhouse, but, as a control systems (automation) engineer and Android App (not ROM) developer, I don't think there would be a way to "just trick it out" some existing Vega ROM to do the job. You would really need to built your own version of Android creating some own specific drivers. But that's kinda of my guess based on my knowledge of hardware, I hope I'm wrong cause I would definitely want to take a look in such ROM.

i know those have special hardware for video decoding but the vega will play 720 or even 1080 in the right codec etc!! im not to worried as i use my ps3 for hd content. im realy looking for internet gmail gtalk youtube iplayer etc and some games on my tv for my wife and children (they love angry birds!)
As for drivers the vega must have some kind of hdmi driver already?
I want to dissable the lcd and have hdmi as default display insted of mirrord?
Does android use edid info to set resolution etc can this be taken from the tv?id like to up the ui resolution to make it less pixilated, as youtube and media will run at upto 1080 over hdmi can the ui and apps be forced to?
sorry to ramble , im learning lots!!

Looks the same as the Vega dock, I just walked into PC world and grabbed one for £25(reduced from £30) shame you don't get a extra power block with it.
Mods please move this question to the general section. Thanks.
seems my post got hijacked i dont care about docks its still a mirrord ouput! My real question is can someone please try to point my in the right direction...
I want to dissable the lcd/digitizer use a mouse and have hdmi as default display running full UI at 1280x720 or higher, i beleve that i have to edit the kernel driver/module? im shure this is possable as it can be done on the tegra 250 dev kits?
not rely fussed what android version, ive gone back to corvus5 as 2.2 is nvidia supported drivers thought it should be best approach?
Any links to help me get started with the vega kernel would be very much appreciated!

[Q] using the N7 as a monitor for a USB webcam

Do a bit of astrophotography, with a tocam web cam, via a PC laptop. Quite a bit though to cart around, thought that the N7 would be a great low weight alternative. Have looked for apps, bit haven't found anything yet that does this. Anyone know of anything that might do the job?

I've seen some ip based webcam solutions, maybe you could forward the signal to your ip address and use it like that? Just a thought, but I don't know for sure if it can be accomplished.
I use a Dlink WiFi/network cam.
Works like a charm with my SIII and Nexus 7.

got mine 2 weeks ago. It doesn't come prerooted. I flashed Finless 1.4 (4.2.2) and it is working great and stable. The flashing process is quite easy and straight forward. One negative point is (but this is the case for all RK3188 sticks) that the official stable XBMC 12 doesn't work. You need to use XBMC 13 which currently is at Alpha V7 stage and often crashes. Ohterwise very happy with the device

Have a question for you guys as reading how you too flashed bobs JB 4.2 ROM. As you know there are choices for space of the apps. 2,4,6 gb. I first tried the 4gb. But when I did. The box on that choice went from green to dark blue. Everything else remained green. Tried to flash and it got a error message. So flashed and just left that line alone with the default 2gb. This time it flashed no problem. But now I'm stuck with 2gb. So Gona refresh. Is it normal for that box to turn blue when you make the choice? If anyone knows..please inform me. TY.

Why not store those files on the ext. SD card. Or am I missing something. Thats what I do on my tab. Is that not possible on this ROM?

AHH okayyyy, that's why then, for LARGE GAMES
if this is the case then you have to try DirectoryBind this app let's you move all the large data files of any game to the external sd card and fool the rom that these files are still on the internal memory. the app supports syncronisation of the files between the external and internal memory.
great tool, i use it and i love it.
but before you move the game data to the external sd card you have first to install and run everything on the internal.
anyway this is just a solution if you can't get the 6GB config.
why don't you flash the stock 4.1 rom, run it then flash Finless's ROM with the 6GB? i think this way you get the CX919 really FORMATTED
GOOD LUCK
So how do you guys like the CX-919?
After I have canceled my Ouya I am looking for alternatives
If you could share some information and experiences I would greatly appreciate it! :good:

I finally got the 4gb . The directions tell you to reboot between wipe and flash. Ignored that. Did wipe. Chose 4gb. Color still changed from green to blue. But went with. Flash went ok. ROM is fine. Link2sd works. Might try directory bind if it does not cause issues with Link2sd. But DB sounds better for large games. Well time for some more testing. TY

I can tell you a little. I did not play around with the stock ROM to much. But I did flash finless 4.2. Had a little trouble with getting drivers installed. Seems that is normal deal. But it worked out. As for device. Its fast! I have not had any lockups or reboots. Video from USB thumb drive and SD card play fine. DLNA works surprisingly well. On this ROM. Netflix is not working. Crackle is not working. Real bummer. Most apps install fine and work. Buy seems like any apps that would turn it into a true smart tv device wont work. I already have a smart tv with these apps. So, that does not bother me to much. But if your going to use it for turning a tv into a smart tv. Well, Forget it. I may try the 4.1 Finless ROM. Read where people were saying these apps work on it? Will see. Anyway this is a fast great device and am having fun with games...

cx919 on stock vs Finless
I used it a bit with stock rom, now I am on Finless 1.4 (4.2.2) ..
- On stock my favorite Dice player didn't work (was showing "can't start video", even when u try to open it), some old Logitec USB camera was not detected by stick/skype, videos from external hdd plugged were playing ok.. Interesting that Antutu crashed during testing...
- Finless brought me really ugly splash screen, as well as old usb camera support in skype, which I tested and it worked pretty good during 45min conversation.. Dice player now works but in a funny way.. a bit slow.. (I saw decoding is done using software and didn't have time now to find option for hw decoding.. should be better).. It is nice that some crappy useless apps are gone, but on the other side developer added some "game mapper controler" and few other apps which are at least for me and for now useless (better would be to mention them in readme so user can download them)..This is about reboot app for example, which could be super usefull, except that it froze somehow my stick and I couldn't start it not even after hard reset.. Flash of Finless again boot it up again.. For SuperUser developer decided not to use the most popular and open source app, but at least in this rom there is root (Stock was pain in the ass to get the root, if u manage to get drivers work).. The biggest problems, however was very difficult mounting of external hdd and even usb. From USB I eventually was able to play videos, while HDD was "blinking" all the time, it even showed up in a list but when I tried to access it it was impossible.. I lost patience waiting, cause I know that on stock that was way much shorter then 3+ min I was waiting on Finless.. Beside this issues I noticed that sometimes mouse/pointer doesn't move and on stock that never happened.. Is that lockout or? This was really annoying, when u know it's quad core and on stock it worked good.. It happened that
All in all good work with some annoying issues which will hopefully be fixed with 1.5 .. Thanks to author.. Cheers

USB sticks definitely work on mine. I am using ES Explorer and the stick gets mounted under USB0 so I only need to browse there to access it. My stick is plugged in the USB slot of my tv. I was surprised to see that the power it gets from the USb slot is enough but it works fine and is convenient because the stick starts automatically whenever I switch on my tv and turns off when I turn off the tv.
Mostly I am using the stick for watching life tv from the net (my desktop contains browser links, no widgets) or YouTube for the kids, or XBMC or watching movies which are stored on my pc
