So I'm going to give my continuum later for my cousin who needs a phone. But before I do that I decided to bring it back to a stock rom (EC09) So then I can give it to him. But whenever I try flashing it with Odin it stops on the modem.bin then fails. tried different cables even a new one and still fail. so then I tried Heimdall to install the modem and kept getting error -12. and from what people say it's the same error. get a new cable, change it to another port, etc. I'm running out of ideas and wan't to fix it before I give it to him. The phone turns on but without modem there can be no service and what not and that's what I need. is there a way to install the modem from root explorer, adb, or something? Thanks in advance!
Just a question, but are you using the ec09 pit file? The partitions are different I believe.

You can extract modem from odin image.
Then find a modem (radio) cwm zip like from ec03 or 07.
Replace modem in 7zip and delete any other files in radio zip.
Flash via cwm

I'll check that in a bit. And thanks roaddog for at least trying to help out.
I'm not sure if ec09 is real modem or dummy. I haven't grabbed files from my ext hd yet. But ec07 radio may work, some old schooler may know

If I was you, I would go all the way back to the full DL17 package, then just OTA up to EC09...
I think I remember the radio being a dud in the EC09 package, so to be safe just do that, or flash the full EG04 package...

Tried it with no success.. Always stops at the modem.bin and it stays frozen or it fails. Gonna give it a few more tries later just in case.

I tried using DL17 stock, EC09 stock, and EG04 leaked stock. Those are the only packages I've been trying to get the continuum to work. Same error.
I just flashed eg04 stock via odin and it hung on modem also.
I had efs clear and botloader update and repartition checked.
Tried twice (close odin, unplug, pull battery, put back in dl mode)
After 3 mins of hanging closed odin and plulled battery and booted in eg04.
Says I have radio.
Did u get urs up?

I just got a Fascinate as my work phone... I have a modded Vibrant as my personal phone.... Everything seems to be a little more complicated with this model compared to my Vibrant. I have 2.1 update 1 on it right now.....
I downloaded SuperClean 2.8 VooDoo edition..... So my upgrade path should be...
Root.....
Odin.... CWM-Recovery.....
My question is do I have to flash the radio/modem individually or will the Rom write it for me as it does on the Vibrant?
Then flash Rom in CWM... Boot... Wait for lagfix.... and Done....
Feel free to poke holes in my thought process here..... Thanks in advance....
You will need to flash the radio separately from the ROM/Kernel.
Unfoutnatly, cwm can't flash the radio yet. Its quite unfournate, and makes it inconvenient as well.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
The order you should follow is root, flash cwm in Odin, make sure you have superclean on your sd, turn off phone and remove battery, flash eb01 modem in Odin, put battery back in and boot recovery, flash Rom first and kernel second, reboot and enjoy.

EDIT: Will I have to re-activate since the Modem changed?
Also make sure in Odin you flash using the PDA option.
Yeah... I'm not new to ODIN just the fascinate steps....
you have to flash that sperately. just make sure your kernal isnt still in your firmware folder.
i dont know what to do anymore. i have tried the ota over 10 times and it dl's then stops half way through the installation. i was on a ec05plus tar so i odined back to the ec05 with the same thing happening. . i have tried the manual update but when i flash that, it aborts it. what other options do i have. thanks
Use the el30 odin packages by toadlife I'm sre this is what your end result would have been right? If you need the modem there is a ei22 to el30 or an ec05 to ei22 as well hope this helps.
Odin package: http://xda.toadlife.net.nyud.net/ROMs/SPH-D700/EL30/SPH-D700_ripped_stock_EL30_ODIN.zip
Use this in odin and you'll be good to go

i still have a problem. i followed the directions perfectly. i odined acs. odined the new kernel. flashed su. went back to recovery. it was in blue letters like it should be and then tried to flash a rom and it seemed to start but then brought me back to recovery every time no matter what rom i flashed. and the only way i could even get back to use the phone was to odin acs recovery again. no matter how often i rebooted system it would bring me back to recovery until i odined. am i doing something wrong? if it helps when i was flashing it said cwm 5.0.2.7 but when i went in the first time to flash su. it showed cwm 5.0.0.0. dont know if that matters. thanks
Wow I can't believe ima about to say this don't use acs cwm. There's a sticky in android development for cwm5.0.2.7 that you can odin in I'm sure you just odined in the incorrect acs
ACS Recovery5 1.0.0.0.0 is what you were needing to flash

Okay odin in the cwm5 recovery ill link it make sure you got the .tar and once that's done boot into it. Wipe data cache and dalvik and flash marcusants rom it will say checking state of bml/mtd and it will reboot and put you back in and saying installing up date it will say complete and should reboot you automatically

This is what is needed you odin in the recovery don't have auto reboot checked and 3 finger salute into cwm power button camera and volume down... then you'll be in cwm5 flash the el30 kernel from toadlife and then you can just flash su if you planon staying on stock if not then flash the rom you want to be on...

start over. odin a stock ec05, run the root package, flash whichever modem you want (probably the latest, there's a flashable zip to go from ec05-el30), then flash the rom of your choice. easy as that.

Yes. Just reflash stock kernel, then the adrynalyne test4 for your cwm, and you will be back to the way we've been doing it, up to this point. Let me know if you need a standalone kernel. I don't recall if there is one floating around, except for in Heimdall versions.

Sweet. You da man.
Edit: Actually I can use a Terminal Emulator to dump the two partitions and use Root Explorer to tar them. Root Explorer just puts the two files in a .tar. Is that sufficient to flash via Odin?
Yeah. Tar will work for ODIN. All the md5 is is a check, to make sure the file isn't corrupted.

Can someone please help me get out of this soft brick because I am really stuck. Currently I am getting the error message that "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." but I have done that and it has failed on both mac and windows 7. I have also tried flashing stock build UCUAMDL 4.2.2 firmware via odin 1.7, 1.85 and 3.07 and I have also used the PIT files along with re-partitioning and F. Reset Time. Every single time in odin it has gotten to system.img.ext4 and then failed immediately following. A couple of times I have been able to get into stock recovery mode and it stated an error that the /system partition could not be accessed and I wiped cache/system/data and then tried rebooting and it stayed in the big white galaxy s4 letters and didn't even go to the boot logo. Based on this can anyone help me please???? If there's an existing thread can you please let me know? Thanks!

you have nothing to boot
kies don't work with iMac
yeah give all the phone info you have, model, build, etc. build may be on your box
i think you can now only flash stock firmware thru Odin to recover, but if you were mf3, you may need to go to bestbuy and see samsung reps to flash phone. don't have any experience at that or using odin
stay on windows pc to do this
may be tomorrow till you get some help from others
good luck

Edit, have you tried to odin the stock firmware? Never mind I see you have
I would download the stock firmware from sammobile.com and try Odin again on a pc. Either version of odin is ok, 1.85 or 3.07.
When you use Odin only have auto-reboot checked, Don't check re-partition.
also, if you are running a custom rom you have a custom recovery

They key word here is that I WAS running a custom recovery when all of this started. It was actually the recovery that started all of this. What happened specifically was I tried to update TWRP via goo manager and whenever I tried to go into recovery it gave me the error that at&t has detected unauthorized software on my phone which I thought was weird because I believe that goo manager auto-lokis. Anyway I tried using other apps to add a custom recovery like ROM manager by clockworkmodz and nothing worked. I then tried to flash TWRP 2.6.3.0 via odin and that's what sent my phone into the state that it's in now. Something that confuses me even more is is that whenever I plug in my phone a battery logo comes up that I don't recognize and then freezes.

That is possible, I know what is causing this has something to do with the partitions being messed up since I can't access /system in the stock recovery mode
