[Q] Pre-purchase Inspection for N4 ??? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys!
I'm about to purchase the Nexus4 once it is available in the shop. (expecting in the coming week) But I saw many thread mentioned about random product failure, I want to prepare myself on this matter.
Actually I'm happy enough to have one in my hand (finally) but better to get the perfect (or closest) one.
What are the concerned details that I need to check on the phone (pre-purchase inspection) when buying? eg. screen, button, volume, etc???
Please share.

Looking for Univeral camera

Hey all,
Well, my main camera has stopped working, possible the result of a drop that occurred a couple of weeks back or the result of my flashing to jwrights WM6 rom (although the first is the most likely, I just can't be 100% sure).
Does anybody have a spare main camera (LT9650FCG, 54H00108-00M) that they are willing to part with? I'm willing to pay if it's reasonable.
Secondly, does anybody have any experience with ordering parts from HTC?
Cheers,
Dan

looking at buying a prophet.. couple of questions

I'm looking at buying a prophet, and the description says that the " Phone randomly crashes turning the screen either completely light or completely dark and require a reseat of the battery to work again. This phone is considered un-repairable by the manufacture. Phone also has unsupported customized Windows Mobile 6.1 firmware."
could this be a software issue or do you think a hardware. possibly a ribbon cable, are there parts available for these? thanks
Hello Quintman and welcome to the forum.
I have no idea where you got the information in your post but as someone who has used a Prophet for 2 years I can tell you that the phone is perfectly stable, specially if you stick with the original WM 5 ROM.
I still use and love it but I would not recommend buying this phone today unless you are looking for something cheap.
It is fairly outdated compared to most models, and has no GPS, 3G, and a slow processor.
I suggest yo post your needs and budget in the general section so people could advise on a better model.
lol i just didnt want to say where it was so everyone would bid on it. it is from ebay. i just didnt know if maybe the rom someone flashed was causing the screen issue or if a ribbon cable came loose or something worse. i was just thinking of buying it to play with it. I currently have a wizard that im selling (hopefully today) so im looking into something else. i love the different models with gps and that can take sdhc, that way i could sell both my gps unit and my mp3 player, but i think those are out of my price range (unless i somehow score one on ebay.) i cant decide whether to take a chance on the ebay one. check your pm

[Q] Internal SD Storage

Hi, I was on the fence about picking up a Galaxy Tab until I read that it can handle voice. I'm now planning on picking one up tomorrow to replace this horrible Omnia II that I have sitting on my desk while my i9000M is in the repair shop due to the dreaded mmcblk01 issues.
My question is whether or not the Tab suffers a similar problem when flashing / lag-fixing / just from general usage? I don't see (m)any threads mentioning bricks that aren't something which can be fixed without much ado, so I'm hoping that means it's a pretty solid piece of hardware. I'm planning on picking it up, regardless, just wondering how careful I need to be as I root the device and set up the voice capabilities.
Thanks in advance for any info anyone might have!

Xiaomi MI2S : A couple of questions to those who know/tried it

Hi all,
I do hope I am asking it in the right place (I didn't want to make a new thread at first, but the closest one I found was locked, so...).
I am willing to buy a Xiaomi MI2S phone. I already know it is only be sold in China (that isn't a problem, actually). I am mostly interested in the 32Gb version, it has really awesome specs.
I have been making a lot of research about this phone and, from what I've seen so far, feedback is positive. That is comforting, to me, but on the same page, I am directly addressing towards people who actually own this phone (or at least have tried it), what are its fails ? Is that phone as perfect as it looks ? Are there some serious flaws/inconveniences with it ?
Second, I also know that the device comes with a specific ROm (MIUI, available in both English and Chinese). I am totally fine with that, as I had a previous positive experience with MIUI roms. But I'd also like to know if, actually, it is possible to customize the phone ? I mean bootloader unlock, root ? Are there some custom roms (well I do mean Cyanogen support, or Cyanogen ports) for Xiaomi MI2S ? These aspects remains a bit unclear, and any piece of information would be much appreciated.
Thanks reading.
i'm willing to buy this phone too. When my good old LG O2x wil die (Can happen every minute ) So i also did some research.
In my langauge (Dutch) There is a lot of information about it. there is a topic on tweakers.net with lots of users who own the device. They are all very happy with it. Here you go... Ok, it's dutch.. But with the use of a translator.. I guess you can get some interesting things out of it. If not.. I could translate some pieces of text for you to english. Just PM me. Not the whole forum of course
About the ROM's. For as far as i know.. There are still no roms without MIUI.. But i'm not suprised if there are roms without MIUI. Maybe in china..
That's all i can help you with atm..
Good luck with researching
miui was modify from cm
and no other rom for mi2s now.
Hello,
I know is my first post here, but i own a MI2 (almost same specs as MI2S, last one using krait processor, better camera) since december this year.
So far nothing to complain about:
- with MIUI V5 battery last 2 full days (wi-fi on, push e-mail on, gps on)
- gps accurate about 2-3 meters
- no problem with gsm/3G signal
- display is very sharp, resistant to scratches, maybe some kind of ACG glass (drop it few times on the concrete, last time i forgot it on the top of my car and i go only plastic frame around display deform)
- sometimes it`s shut off by himself (dunno why, maybe i mess around with secondary recovery partition when it was on MIUI V4)
- no laggy at all (over 72 apps instaled)
- overall a good phone, and i like it
- i use it with the native rom and i get via OTA some updates at 2-3 weeks
sorry for my bad english, hope that helps

According to the people i refered to in my previous post..www.ibuygou.com is the best shop for the Xiaomi Mi2S device, when it comes to shipping. Some people in holland say that it takes only 1 day to ship, others complain that it takes more than 3 weeks. It depends on the amount of devices they have in stock.
The prices are great btw, 300 euro / 400 dollar for the 16gb, 350 euro / 450 dollar for the 32gb variant. And max 20 dollars for import
They also have accesoires like back covers, cases, batteries etc.
How fast is the GPS locking on the Mi2S?
This is really the perfect phone, with the exception it doesnt have LTE (does it?)
I had a mi 2
Its the best smartphone in 4.3" formfactor
Fast, stable
Very good camera
Long lasting akku on (gps wlan, edge)
Out of the box fast and stable no need for custom rom
Beside miui there is a stockandroid rom with english and chinese language
Cons
3g akku drain
Thick and high weight in comparison to s3, htc one
Bad support in fact of defect or something
Sometimes bad reception
Sometimes microphone issues ( mayve only my device)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Hi all,
First of all, thanks for the positive feedback.
Well, Ibuygou seems to be a popular (and good) choice as a way to purchase the phone.
I'll consider that. Thanks for the tip.
Well, I still don't have much information about the second part of the question though. I am looking for information in the actual state-of-art on modding the phone : is there some safe ways for bootloader unlock, phone rooting ? Are there custom roms actually for Xiaomi devices, or at least, devs working on that ?
These aspects still remain a bit unclear to me, and i'd like to be enlighten on this.
Thanks in advance.
PS: Well it seems i missed natoleon's answer on that:
miui was modify from cm
and no other rom for mi2s now.

There is no developers support due to lack of source code for the kernel as they refuse to follow the GPL laws. Also. Ok real development team has any respect for the MIUI crew as it is well known they take code from others and don't give anything back. For the these reasons this device will not see any development or forums here.
Wayne Tech Nexus
You can find a AOSP for Xiaomi Mi2/Mi2S here. It uses the same kernel though.

It's a spanish forum, but the rom is multilanguage. You can use Google Translator to get an idea of it's said.

Hi, thanks for your prompt reply....
i heard a rumor that Mi3 is getting launched by august 16th... is that true ? also with full HD & octa core CPU ?
above all it is priced at 320$ !!!
I am very excited & i am kind of lets wait no matter even if the earthquake happens.... what should i do man ???
Hi,
I it's up to you.
The question is, do you want BIG and heavy phone (MI3, 5" screen, fullHD) or relatively small but still veeery fast (Mi2S, 4,3" screen, 720p).
Both phones are so fast that rest of parameters doesn't matter, you don't feel the difference....
I am very happy that MI2S have only 4,3" screen, not 4,5" or bigger because I want "compact" but fast phone with 2GB ram.
So I don't care about MI3.

Can you help me with this RMA request?

Hello everyone!
i'm a Spanish user of OnePlus One. My first device had a lot of problems and I decided to open a RMA.
When I opened the box, I see than the "new device" had the "volume - button" broken.
I send a lot of Tickets to OnePlus and finally, the last Thursday DHL comes to pick up my phone.
Few days later, I didnt see any answer for OnePlus and today I write this E-Mail:
Hi.
The last thursday DHL picked up my device and I'm waiting a status update of the RMA process.
My first device had a lot of manufacturing problems like a dead pixel and also a lot of touch issues, and the second device has a volume button problem and also the gyroscope.
I had deposited a lot of enthusiasm for this brand and I've never had a fully functioning device, so I am very disappointed because I could not enjoy the product for which I paid.
Tomorrow is my birthday and I need my device, and dont know anything of the status of my replacement. My question is if i can change mi OnePlus One to a new One Plus Two paying the difference (100€) because I never had a fully functional phone in my hands since i bought the One.
Despite all of this problems, I'm very happy with the support team and also i am very satisfied. Problems are solved quickly and the quality and the professionality of the brand is awesome. The next phone probably will be a OnePlus.
Best regards for you!

My English is so bad and I hope you can write your opinion and corrections.
Also ask you if the upgrade to the OPT coming from the OPO is actually a good idea.
Thanks for all, i love this community.
And also sorry for my bad English.
If you receive an upgrade offer take IT, after that, when you receive the phone, stay with the courier, ask him you want to open the box and test the product for 2-3 minutes (after you sign), if you see any dents, damages on the phone like cracked screen, damaged volume rocker etc, the courier will complete a form and send the phone back as damaged in the transit!!
I also recomend since the rma process and support is so hard to come by, that people with less knowledge in android flashing does not embark in a custom kernels/root/overclock tour )
