I've used CM10, and Smoothrom and also PARANOIDANDROID.
My favorite so far has been smootrom with clemsys battery saving, can anyone suggest any alternative with more tweaks ect I dont mind nightlys?
Thanks very much for all your hard work guys!
Well, you can try rasbeanjelly if you want. I'm currently using SmoothROM, my favorite too!
I almost forgot, next time try using the search function, I think we have enough threads like this one.

Is there anything interesting about rasbeanjelly? Any more customization?
It was just a suggestion, they're all interesting in their own way. I used it only for 2-3 days because I went back to SmoothRom. Go ahead and try this one too, you've got nothing to lose!
I'd like to recommend u to see the following thread to select your next ROM.

Multiple posts on this, one search would have done it. You need to recalibrate your battery and let a few cycles go by. Battery stats mean nothing right now until you do that.
The rom looks alright even though I don't like the theme. I like TW and all but I'm getting tired of 2.2 roms with themes that I have already seen.

Meh...
I just loaded Bionix 1.3.2test with Overstock 2.4.1 kernel, so I'm not really into (re)loading all the apps and stuff right now.
Freaking takes hours to get it right.
I wanna try the next gen Bionix. I've downloaded it already but I hate the blue theme. I'm a big fan of the GB colors and the old Bionix theme. So I'm gonna wait until someone makes a theme or a GB themed next gen is available.

I just do a clockwork backup and then do an advance restore userdata after flashing the new rom. I haven't attempted the technique for two different roms (such as Bi-Winniner to Bionix) but from Bionix-V to Bionix NextGen beta and NextGen 1 worked fine for me.
What's up with all the xda-tw drama again? Mods locked down one thread because it didn't have a direct dl link, and another - because it did??? Lol
I flashed Malice III yesterday and did a full titaniuim restore ... only to wake up this morning with a urge to check the team whiskey forums ... seen this was a public release and clicked downlaod then I flashed it.

From a moderators perspective if a thread in the Development section does not contain anything Development related then it should get locked. If there is no link then it's rather pointless and based on personal experience will only cause issues between other members and the developing party.
In other words, if there is nothing good that can come from it then it naturally closed as a preventative action.
The other thread was locked because the link posted was for that of the BETA release which was intended ONLY for those who had donated to TeamWhiskey. Now requiring donation for download is in conflict with the interests with XDA-Developers and the community so we cannot and will not have that here on XDA.
By the way... I'm not your moderator so I have nothing to do with the decisions that were made. Here I am just like yourself. An ordinary member.

Do they have an official website? And is that ridiculous signature necessary?

So I just sold my iPad and ordered the Nexus 7
After reading all these threads about screens cracking by themselves among other issues I am a bit paranoid.
Anyway any advice or tips as this is my first Android device
Thanks :good:
Don't worry about it until it happens to you... I've got two of these things and they have none of these problems... just remember... happy customers don't go to forums and start a thread about " why is my tablet so perfect?"... so a lot of what you see here are people looking for a solution to a problem... and even if you see a thousand posts on the same "screen lifting" thread... it only represents a small percentage of actual production... MOST users get a nexus, love a nexus, get addicted to a nexus, complain about lack of sleep
You should be all good... the odds are in your favor

I don't believe any of the stories about the screens cracking by themselves.
I also ordered two Nexus 7 and both are perfect. So don't worry, odds are on your side.

Mine tried to kill me in my sleep one night, I did a factory reset and it hasn't done it since. But really I have two with no issues. If you read all these threads about complaints I think you start looking for issues. I have a $2500 8000 series Samsung led TV and the screen isn't perfect either.

Thanks for the reassurance
So before first use should I download the nexus toolkit and work from there?

Since you are new to Android, I recommend leaving it stock and see how you like it. You might decide stock is the way you like it! If not, at least you will have an idea what you want different from stock.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk 2
Zero issues with mine so far also. And you want want to stay stock for very long. There are a number of great ROMs out there and its fun checking them out. Nexus 7 toolkit works great for rooting as does wugs.

Don't worry about it. I would recommend buying a good screen protecter because only after a couple of days my screen had a few scratches on it.

You might want to use the toolkit to unlock the bootloader. If you wait until later it will wipe all your data. You can always wait to root and ROM later.
I agree with Krista that you might not want to get too carried away to begin with. Check out the bean for all its glory before you roam elsewhere, so you'll know what you are missing.
Forums always collect all the bad feedback. You have to consider how many are sold, good vs bad. Mine is a C8O and has been perfect out of the box. None of the horror stories that I've read and I would take certain issues with a grain of salt.
When you get it, just play around with it. Don't be afraid to long press or swipe. Often times new menu options open when you long press something.

Honestly your best bet is to read, read, read for at least a week. Then do it. It helps if you have somewhat of an idea of what's going on and the terminology.

DO NOT Start there.. that is a link to a toolkit and until you know what it does and can do it manaully i would suggest you keep as far as possible away from it.
Agreed with the previous two posts.. All too often I see people who barely know how the phone even operates and immediately try figuring out how to root it. Use your device as is for a bit. It's a Nexus, you don't get any more of a clean default installation. Why you are using it do as said above, read, read, read, and read more. I'm going my third year of using Nexus devices and I still occasionally revert to unrooted stock just to enjoy the pure and clean AOSP experience. Why? Because it's a damn good experience still right out of the box. :victory:
Enjoy your device and ask as many questions as you need.. Asking isn't a crime. :good:
I think I'm one of the rare ones here who runs a stock N7. I am perfectly happy with it though and don't feel the need to root at all. It does everything I want it to already. For my personal needs, it's perfect.
Just because you're now running Android, doesn't mean you have to root it.
I dont know modding or codding i only love modification ... if some one give me best tutorial for modding or making rom i gonna try my best and really make a best rom....
Give me best tutorial...

There are plenty of Java Tutorials in the Internet. I guess you should read them first. Im also pretty sure that there are some tutorials about roms on XDA. You can find all of it just by using the search tool.

If you don't even know how to search for the needed info yourself without asking, you've got ZERO chance of making the "best ROM".
Most "developers" are just "modding" or replacing stuff with winzip. If you like stock but with some other theme and couple of mods this is your way togo. I myself am not very fond of this method an skip these roms. Personally im keeping my note stock till an official MIUI or CM rom arrives.

Can anyone recommend a good kernel for Nexus 7 3G?
Thanks.

A "good kernel" is based on your own decision.
If one recommends you one it might not be good for you as it does for the other.
