I have upgraded my Defy+ to CM10.1 and I always got either AOSP crashes or gapps crashes.
I tried with many version of gapps, nothing. Complete data+cache factory reset, I also erased the /Android in SD card, nothing.
I even flashed SBF, still same result! Note that I do a data+cache reset every time.
Has anyone had success with this? I don't/can't post to the other thread with 1465 pages (that's insane..)
Thanks!
The 'other thread' is for CM10
CM 10.1 is still pre alpha ...
Are you sure where you are?

Hi Now am using 2.3.7 version and kernal 2.6.32.9-gb in my defy,
Am planing to install ICS 4.0.3.What kernal should download?
Becoz i already tried Mar 3 build but its stucked many times and getting restarted again so pls tel the correct methods and kernal.GApps.
Can any one help me?
If you have gingerbread kernel you need to install a Defy+ build. If you have a normal defy, I think you need to install batery fix as well. I'll try to find it. Defy+ builds work well with red lense defys, but I don't think camera works for green lense users.
Thanks...so shall I install defy + build...and kernal link available separately....what is the use of those kernal...how. and wat should be install

You already have a kernel. Or else you wouldn't be able to use the phone. You've already told me that you have a gingerbread kernel. So don't bother flashing a new one.
Gapps is on first page for main CM9 thread. Battery fix is somewhere in the thread :-/ Look around page 300

CM9 Kernel gives bootloader error. It's for froyo kernel users only (as far as i've understood)
DON'T flash it! It will soft brick your phone!

I hope all doubts over
CM9 builds, gapps & battery fix is enough to my phone to run ICS.
Have to flash above three things?
Am i right?

That is true. I have a Defy+ and I installed the CM9 kernel. It soft bricked my phone and I had to do a SBF flash, root CWM recovery and all things all over!! Flash the CM9 built for Defy+ by Quarx. It does restarts and freezes ocassionally but is okay otherwise for a beta version!!
hello guys. I have a galaxy tab 10.1 WIFI 16GB. Currently im using milestone 4.
My problems started I think when I went to AOKP build 26. Many crashes (reboots)
WIFI doesnt work sometimes. sometimes when i didnt use the tab for a while and then i click the power button, I see the unlock screen but my touches do nothing.
This is realy frustrating cuz I cant use my tablet, Im having troubles ALL THE TIME.
I have CWM 4.0.0.4, yesterday when i tried to move to milestone 4 I also tried some other roms (not AOKP) and they all showed the same bug when i tried to install them: assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device")=="p4wifi" || getprop("ro.build.product")=="p4wifi"
WTF? i cant install roms that arent AOKP's. so guys, what can I do to save my dying tablet? please help
thanks, Amit.

I have JB 4.1.2 Quarx 24.09
That is quite an old ROM. Newer ones have less bugs. Maybe you could try upgrading.

I installed the CM 10.2 nightly from yesterday (Android 4.3). Had some stability problemes (phone rebootet by itself a few times, e.g. always when receiving a skype call). So was not happy with that.
Then I decided to flash the lastet stable release which was 10.1.2 and Android 4.2.x I believe?
However, afer der flashing my phone doesn't boot anymore (CM Boot Animation endless loop).
Unfortunately I don't have the 10.2 CM nightly Version on my internal storage, then I would flash it again.
What can I do? Please help.

Well, but then all my Data is gone?!?!
Hello,
I am running CM 10.2 (latest nightly). I flashed the franco kernel r191 for the first time and it bricked the phone. The boot animation won't come up. It gets stuck after the Google logo. I would appreciate if you could help me out. Fortunately, I had a full nandroid backup and was able to recover my phone.
I use the TWRP recovery.
Thanks.
You need to learn what the definition of bricked means.
a bricked phone is worthless and unrecoverable, it makes a great paperweight/door stop. flashing a kernel that wont boot is not bricking a phone, and not close, and there are many ways to recover from a non booting kernel, nandroid restore being one way. you can also just flash a good kernel or your rom to recover.
Thank you for clarifying the definition of brick. I did not know that. Please feel free to chime in regarding my original question. Thank you.

What IS your question? From what I've read, you were able to restore your nandroid, right? Just don't flash that kernel if it messes things up.

try a different franco kernel. are you sure that you pucjed the right kernel? 4.2.2 kernels dont boot on 4.3, and 4.3 kernels dont boot on 4.2.2.

According to the author, I am supposed to flash the one that has a JSS tag in the file name. http://franciscofranco.minooch.com/Nexus4/4.3/zips/
I am sure I downloaded the correct file and flashed the right version. Since I am new here, I am not allowed to post in the original thread, which is here:

I would like to know whether there is a way to flash the franco kernel on CM 10.2. It seems to be buggy. I wanted to post my question here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002782
But I need at least 10 posts to ask my question there.

no. custom kernels no longer work on cm properly, if at all.thats probably is the reason why franco kernel wont boot. cm changed their base code from aosp to qualcomm a few weeks ago, and that broke the ability to use custom kernels on cm. custom kernels are based on aosp, and qualcomms code breaks stuff because of it.
Thank you so much! Now I understand why.

when did this start? currently running cm10.2 and Franco190, now I'm scared to update cm as I need Franco for the battery life
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Started a couple of days ago. Not sure if the r191 is the cause or the cm 10.2 nightly.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
As said previously CM is the cause, Franco still remains AOSP based, you can try hellscore kernel, Google it, it as a nice reputation for amazing battery life and has a CM version of it.

I don't even like the way that term is used to be honest. To me a soft brick is more or less something that requires a JTAG.
A bootloop or a failed boot just isn't any type of brick at all really as far as I'm concerned.
You really should change the title of the thread. Franco does great work and really does not need to be slandered. After all cm is preventing your device from booting not Franco's kernel. If you want to rant maybe you could change the title to cm bricked my phone
